Coolest thing about this album; critics were bashing Corey about his vocal content and reliability on cursing/swear words. So, he wrote the subliminal tracks delivering similar messages as before with a more broad vocabulary to prove critics wrong. Such a great “fuck you” without actually saying “fuck you” 🙌🏻 Most definitely my favorite album of theirs. Each member was on point throughout the entire production. (I think there were maybe 2 swear words in total, one is radio friendly and the other isn’t on a radio track)
If I'm not mistaken, it was "the bastard you know is the hero you hate" in the pulse of the maggots intro and "wished at this,, I've bitched at that" in duality. Closest things I can think of. Pretty cool how he did that just to stick it to them.
I love how Corey has that agressive tone to his vocals in that part 07:57 but his voicw ccompletly changes in the chorus 08:26 that sounds so beautiful, BRO AM I THE ONLY ONE THAT FIND HIS VOCALS 07:56 EXACTLY LIKE "Liberate"? The "The only way is all the way" sounds so similar to the "Liberate bananas" . ... I got some system of a down vibes in the beggining idk why
I think the name of the song is from the quote "Religion is the Opium of the People" its I think is a Karl Marx quote, which I have to clarify Corey isn't a Marxist at all but this quote is interesting
I can relate to what smokey said about people being addicted to religion. Those people are the ones who judge you. You tell them you listen to heavy metal music and they instantly think you are a heathen and it shouldn't matter what type of music do you listen to.
I always felt like this song was one of the best representations of slipknot's change in sound from iowa to vol.3. They had a lot they went through before vol.3 released and it felt like the shift towards focusing on their melodic skills (especially with corey trying new things after his voice blew out and just trying to prove the haters wrong about him and his abilities) came from that change in mindset for all the members. Referring to the battle between joey and Jay, that's just plain hard. Jay has done such a great job and in my opinion has definitely measured up to joey with his performances but joey has to be the better drummer just for his influence. He had such a profound impact on the band and its evolution as well as drummers/musicians around the world in a way Jay hasnt had the chance to do yet. I love Jay but he won't be able to touch the sheer reach that joey had on the band and the fans.
That's exactly why Joey's was the main show on their concerts, he was the man in the drums, since he got fired, anything was the same, but Jay is still good on his shit
You guys need to check out Joey Jordisons band he was in after Slipknot. It's called Vimic, and the song is called fail me featuring Dave Mustane from Megadeth.
Also Tool’s album Opiate ties into Maynard’s apparent distaste for religion and how his mom kept believing in the very deity that allowed her to be paralyzed.
I think anyone who knows a lick about music knows Joey Jordison was and always will be superior to any drummer Slipknot would ever have. Ridiculously innovative and a super talented chap. He's incomparable. RIP.
I say both are the same of greatness. Jay is just building up to that tier. I really want Jay to go crazier and he has the potential to do it I believe.
Guys, guys! I discovered a thing today and you NEED to react to it I swear to god you will LOVE IT. It's one of the most epic live performances I've ever seen and I need to see you guys bug out over it the way I just did! The specific video title is: Septicflesh - Dogma Of Prometheus (official live video) Infernus Sinfonica MMXIX There's a gentle lull about 2/3 through it, and after said gentle lull, get ready to see the lead vocalist literally throw his entire goddamn soul into it. It's one of the most impressive displays of passion I've ever seen, and I KNOW you're gonna dig it. I don't wanna say much else aside from that. You'll want to go in completely blind. I know I'm not a patron, and don't comment much, but please take my word for it when I say, you won't wanna miss this. You're the first ones I thought of when I wondered if anyone had reacted to it yet. Treat yourselves and get your minds blown!
Have you guys heard of $uicideboy$? Their an underground rap duo from New Orleans that has become huge in the past few years. They have a lot of Horrorcore and punk rock elements in their music and sample a lot of three6 mafia stuff. They even produced an album for Juicy J and got a feature on it. Any song by them is good but I'd like to recommend Sarcophagus II
One thing I'm curious about is that their are two other drummers in this band. Could it be that some of the beats we are hearing are them and not just Jay or Joey? I am not a musician but didn't want to discredit the other guys.
I have a request. I know this is off genre but it's a Russian black metal band called Batushka. The song I would love to see you guys react to is Yekteniya IV: Milost. Didn't mean to sound rude when I made the request in my last comment. I was in a bit of a rush. Apologies.

It's definitely the most unique and experimental album from them
Also, it’s not about who’s better… they’re two different people playing their own ways in the same genre 🤔
Definitely one of my favorite songs. Vol.3 got so many good song.
Slipknot - Skeptic
Slipknot - Sulfur (my all time fav personally)
System of A Down - Science
Love the videos my dudes! keep it up!
A good follow up to this would be the song "I'm Not Jesus" by Apocalyptica which features Corey.
Great breakdown of this song. Y’all are entertaining per usual! Love the constant up-speed tempo of this track
Television would be another opium of the people
Yes! On that subject, Black Flag’s “TV Party” and “Idiot Box” by Incubus come to mind
I still believe the best slipknot song(especially for the drumming) is Purity.
Check that one out
If they do, then they need to listen to the version with Frail Limb Nursery
