It's so hard to not listen to just the drums on this one. So full and powerful and it just matches so perfectly. I was not aware that he had passed. RIP to a legend.
I was at a concert and Corey took a stick off Joeys kit and thew it into the crowd and I am 6'3" so I grabbed it out of the air. Almost as precious to me as my used Dimebag guitar pick that I got from a DamagePlan concert two months before he was killed.
Corey really has some incredible range. He's absolutely one of the best when it comes to harsh, extreme vocals, his screams are top notch. But when he sings clean, god is it beautiful. Some other good songs featuring his vocals are Through Glass, Mission Statement, and Say You'll Haunt Me by Stone Sour, and The Devil In I, Dead Memories, and Sulfur by Slipknot.
His vocals on this album were a bit different because he blew them out during the Iowa tour. This album was the start of him really having to learn how to properly sing and experimenting with different screaming styles.
I've heard him say in one of his solo show Q&A things that Vol 3 was just him trying out a new vocal style, and it was Vol 3 that actually blew his voice out. Iowa definitely couldn't have been healthy either though. (Edit: Actually it might've been Come What(ever) May he said blew his voice out, one or the other, but the vocals on that were basically the same as Vol 3)
@HalendleofLoc I don't think there was a single thing about the Iowa tour that was healthy for any of them. It did spawn some epic performances, though.
@@HalendleofLoc it's possible.....I know something I read said he screwed it up at the end of Iowa..... would make sense that he could've screwed himself up worse trying new things..... it's awesome to see he did get proper technique down and has been able to carry on like 25 years now..... most people in his style bracket are ruined by now
I just want to say, Elizabeth, your channel has truly reignited the fire inside to pursue my music again. I’ve been feeling so defeated and depressed for the last couple years over the lack of response from the original work I’ve speant YEARS of my life trying to achieve. I was writing and producing EVERYTHING on my own spending countless nights after my 9-5 just tirelessly trying my hardest to put my heart on paper and then producing that fire. If there’s ANYWAY I can share it with you when that day comes I’d be happy to, I’m not asking for anything or anything like that I just want to share my story with you since you’ve been sharing yours with us! hey dude, i read this and i really wanna know if you can play instruments because ive written some songs and want to sing them, but everyone shuns me away because im "too young". would love to talk on any platform u got
Corey Taylor is an absolute legend. I highly recommend listening to the live version of Bother by Stone Sour, which is his other band. His clean vocal ability is amazing
I just learned of Slipknot five years ago. Im 60 and they are one of my favorites, one reason is due to the fantastic drumming by both guys. Joey and Jay are excellent ❤
Check out Caleb H Drummer. He is a 9 year old kid who is a massive Slipknot fan and a phenomenal drummer. He was invited up to play drums WITH Slipknot at one or their Birmingham gigs
As a young teen Joey's drumming on Iowa, and specifically on the song People = Shit, was the first time I'd heard a blast beat and it blew my mind. My father always had stuff like Led Zeppelin or Rush playing in his truck, so I grew up hearing talented drumming in music, but to me the speed and precision paired with just a little bit of what I call "good sloppy" (my music teacher buddy calls it "feel"), really blew my mind and I've been a fan ever since. I know for a lot of metalheads around my age, Slipknot is a really important band in terms of them being the gateway band into extreme metal and harsh vocals in general. Corey Taylor also generally speaks positively of other musicians, with a notable exception being people that speak negatively of rock and metal music/musicians. There's a video clip I remember seeing of him fangirling in front of Ronnie James Dio, and Dio saying that the amount of praise Corey was giving him, he had for Corey as well. I figure if someone has the respect of somebody as important and talented as Dio, he's a damn good vocalist by any measurement.
Corey has an amazing vocal range, sometimes in Slipknow we don't get to hear enough of it, but in Stone Sour and his solo stuff you can really hear it.....his cover of "Wild Horses" by The Rolling Stones is superb
His covers are always a thing to behold, Particularly, Everlong, Black, The Best of You, Would, Lithium, and, of course, Spongebob Squarepants 😂. Seriously though, the man is talented beyond the recognition he gets and he gets quite a bit.
One of the things I love about watching your videos is I get to go back and listen to some of my favorite songs that I maybe haven't given enough attention lately or kind of forgot how good they are, and I get to listen to it with different context. Whether it be your singing explanations or your genuine reactions to these songs and watching your developing fandom with Metal, it makes me appreciate these songs again, so thank you, so much.
Dont get me wrong, I love your analysis of all of these metal songs that I have loved for so long, HOWEVER I think my favourite thing in your videos, is just how excited and how much your facial expressions, express how much pleasure you get from the awesomeness of both the music and vocals/lyrics. Its like introducing a friend to a new song/band you love and watching their reaction! As always fantastic video!
Same here, somebody said in her reacting to Panteras cemetery gates, her expressions towards Phil Rex and the of course insane Abbott brothers, it’s like a proud parent watching your kid enjoy the music you grew up to. Or on another twist, a grandkid showing his friends what his pappaw did in the war.. it’s a very proud feeling either way
I love how she accepts extreme vocal as a worthy form. It does work both ways though, as watching her videos helped me bring more dynamic movement and colour into our album. Death/doom growls sponsoured by the Charismatic voice 😂
The thing is, none of it is really new. Opera has the sounds and techniques, they just are not developed the same ways in the work they do. That said, a lot of "opera people" get stuck in their lane and can't accept the more aggressive tone of the music.
sometimes I'd swear she's about to get off on it lmfao...defiantly looks like she's feeling it. Not trying to be crude, just music can absolutely affect people on all kinds of emotional levels. You never know.
An interview with Corey would be SUPEr interesting to watch, as he has historically gone on record to say he almost never does vocal rest, doesnt really warm up and just kinda "does it" so hearing that broken down would be awesome!
I love how you point things out that make me appreciate the artist more then I previously did before with your analysis. Its so nice to learn about the technical aspect of subjects I was clueless about. Thank you once again.
This song won a Grammy (Slipknot's only one). It's just excellent. I love that you picked it to analyze. Corey is an absolute beast. I think you'll like the vocals in "The Devil in I".
I'm a metal vocalist and Corey Taylor was one of the 3 main inspirations that lead me to the realization that I actually loved mixing clean vocals with gruff and growling vocals. His versatility and control is something that, still to this day, inspires me
The only downside with the music video version is it cuts the "middle/bridge" section short a little, not to a huge detriment but the album version builds up a bit longer before the vocals kick back in & has an extended lead guitar melody line that is surprisingly quite uplifting.
I'm glad someone addresses it. I couldn't find any comment in the music video or here mentionning that it has made me question my sanity a bit LMAO. When I first watched this music video I think it wasn't cut short but later they cut it? There's a bit of a cut at the outro too. Imo the song feels incomplete in the music video version
Same with the intro and outro. Agreed it's not "noticeable" to a first time listen, but if you're used to the extended builds then there is a little bit of a let down there.
This is a rare occasion where the music video version of the song is somehow more *raw* than the regular version of the song, despite being almost identical. LOVE this one
You mention them showing his mouth and teeth. That’s what made this video so special. It was the first time the band shed the masks for their music. Why everyone else in the background is blurred and no one persons entire face is shown.
There's a video of the recording sesh of the song 'From can to can't' (Dave Grohl, Corey Taylor, Rick Nielsen and Scott Reeder collab), where Corey sings, and that's a really nice video to hear every detail in his voice. I would suggest to give it a look as it sure will be a favourite for you Elisabeth! @thecharismaticvoice
I’m more than certain Corey would be more than willing to put a camera down his throat. He’s a super cool and super humble guy. It’d also be really dope to get him in an interview.
If you enjoy Slipknot's combination of harsh & subtle vocals, then you'd definitely dig Howard Jones in Killswitch Engage (2002 - 2012). Howard Jones is also African American, which is a really rare & cool thing to see in a metal band. He has an absolutely phenomenal voice!
Corey Taylor's screams are so guttural and primal, which just magnifies the aggressive nature of the music. It one of the multitude of things that keeps many of us coming back to Slipknot over and over again.
In 2016 he underwent spinal surgery, because it was discovered that he had been walking around with a broken neck since early in his career. His huge neck is a consequence of his own spine not holding his head up, while headbanging and so on. It was almost only his neck muscles that did all the work.
Volume 3 is such a fascinating turn in Slipknot's discography. Corey made the conscious decision to write all the lyrics cleanly, so there's some wild wordplay. Moreover, Corey totally reworked his screams between Iowa and All Hope Is Gone, and Vol 3 is a stage hes never returned to. The screams sound way higher throughout the album compared to his gutturals, seemingly using more high tones (still true fold too) and lending all of his screams an escalating energy. So yes, that is a signature style on this album especially!
I love this album and I love Rick Rubin's work in general but I find it ironic that Taylor has talked quite a few times about how he hates Rubin and thinks Vol III is their worst album because of it. 🤷♂🤷♂
Let's not get ahead of ourselves. He's no SOAD's Serj in pure vocal artistry/mastery or Pantera's Phil in power/aggression [edit] OR fucking AiC's Layne with the goddamn talent and emotion - can't forget him.
"I am a world before I am a man..." = As a kid you think the world revolves around you, but when you grow up you realize that there is a lot more to life. Also, I loved how they shot this video without their masks and you never truly see their faces. You can also see their masks hanging off random things in the video. It's symbolic to the lyrics of the song.
I am a world has a couple meanings, but particularly from context we can conclude that the lyrics mean that the choices I make effect more than myself. It's a premise the world has lost... Like don't act like a shithead and then accuse the world and society of being shit. The world and society are made of people each choosing to be selfish shits instead of being a betterment of society. To remember that you are a world before you're a man, is to acknowledge that you're avoiding adding to the problem; and/or attempting to be a part of the solution...
I was so pumped to see this song getting a reaction! The music video for "Psychosocial" is a (crazy) Slipknot staple and the song that really highlights Corey's ability to shift from his growl to his melodic vocals. I bet the transition will catch you by surprise. Thanks for showing how talented Metal singers are!
I was so lucky to see these guys at Excel Energy Center in Minnesota very shortly before Paul Gray passed away. The energy level was so high the whole night, Slipknot was just killing it and then the song "Spit it Out" starts up and I've never seen an entire crowd listen like that. When Corey said get down I didn't see a single person in the stadium that didn't get off their seat, or crouch where they were standing. And when the moment came the place Fucking exploded!!! and the whole damn place shook when we jumped! I will never forget that night!
As a "maggot" I know you are giving a reaction at this time I am just enjoying Slipknot's "Before I Forget". But your natural reactions are something else, your just giggling, eyes wide open and jaw drops. Also you're just amazed.
One of their best songs. At 12:33 that transition and breakdown is my favorite part of the song. It’s genius. “Vermilion pt.2” is my favorite song by them. You should definitely react to it one day. Awesome reaction🤘🏼
@@DefinitelyNotBenderthe only sad thing about this song is nobody ever checks out the full version. That full guitar solo after the transition is a thing of beauty and I've listened to that snippet on repeat as much as the entire song.
@@kylethekidable yea, unfortunately the music video shortens the song and cuts out a good chunk. For some reason that’s been an issue with music videos from the beginning. But it does give some incentive for people to find the full song when they find out they missed some of it. Not sure if it’s a marketing thing or to save money on the videos by cutting out some of the parts without singing. Probably something to do with viewership metrics. Over a certain amount of time without singing there could be a drop off in viewership for videos due to people having the attention span of a squirrel. That’s just a guesstimation.
Corey's voice is definatley unique. His vocal persona shifts as well depending on who is playing with and the song. From the animal aggression of Slipknot to slightly gentler Stone Sour to pained Corey with Apocalyptica. Love this song in the gym. Really gets the blood flowing.
i can not state or express just how EXCITED my friends and i were when this video/song were about to drop. After all at this point Slipknot had NEVER been maskless, and they teased this video, and idea all over. it was in magazines, it was being talked about on the radio, etc. it was everywhere and we were all speculating what is it going to be like, full face reveal? partial? just shots of their masks? we were SO hyped. Naturally with that kind of hype this video didnt hit with a small percentage of fans because they felt they had been lied too. but most of us fucking LOVED how creative it was, to drive up hype, then bring such an interesting take where you are either getting partial shots or blurred focus of them members. It is imo one of the things that now is so hard to understand about why they were successful. its a lot of little details that created buzz, created intrigue that helped launch them into the stratosphere in terms of metal bands.
I wish I was into Slipknot back then to experience that. I basically found out about them from Stone Sour (also late to learn about them) and learning about Corey. At that point, the mystery was gone 😂.
@@ImAlsoMerobiba i have several amazing memories/stories about slipknot with me and my friends when they were young. we destroyed the interior of a friends car when Iowa album came out. we listened to it together in a friends car and all moshed inside of it. saying that things got destroyed was an understatement. But yeah this band has saved my life more than any other band. flat out maggot for life.
Corey Taylor is such a talented vocalist. I listened to that CD so much when I was younger, and still enjoy it. Honestly hope one of these days you get a chance to interview Corey. ^ - ^
I just want to say how much I appreciate Elizabeth and other content creators for shining a light on metal artists. Growing up in the 80s during the height of the "Satanic Panic," singers in metal bands were often derided as being nothing more than screamers & shouters, lacking any real skill. Thank you for validating what we, the fans, have known from the beginning: metal vocalists are enormously talented performers who deserve equal recognition.
there's something wrong with this channel is that it is too perfect that i am addicted to watching episodes non stop ,Elizabeth ure amazing your reaction is amazing and everything u do i just love
If you want to see what Corey Taylor sounds like in a more subdued, acoustic setting listen to "Bother" by Stone Sour, his alternate band. It's an incredible song with an incredible music video.
If you ever get a chance to see Slipknot live, take that chance. Whether you're their biggest fan or not, it's an experience worth having, they are just that good
This song was released some time before they revealed their faces to the audience and fans. Up to that point of reveal, the fans only knew the masks. So the music video was, for a while, the closest thing to seeing the face beneath the masks.
I found your channel a few weeks ago. When I discovered ren. My first video here was hi ren. And since then ice binned your entire channel. I can't get enough. Liz you are amazing. Your reactions are so fun to watch. I especially enjoy when you discover something that gets you all excited and you get super animated. So fun! Can't wait for the next video!
Many of us were introduced to Slipknot through this song via guitar hero! This and Snuff were the only songs I could stand to listen to for many years but over the last decade Ive come to really love most of their music!
Definitely one of the classics and mainstays from the '00s; one of the first Slipknot songs that got any kind of positive mainstream attention, if I remember correctly. And you have to do a video on Slaughter to Prevail's new song "Viking." Alex Terrible has a live one take of him doing it on his channel, and it is truly one of his best performances to date.
On a totally different note, have you ever seen Hocus Pocus by Focus, especially the live version where they had to perform doubletime? The vocals are something you've never reviewed before.
If you want to hear Corey at one of his harshest sounds mixed with smoothest sounds you should listen to psychosocial. It was actually that song that got me invested in all of music when I was young
A Liars Funeral is absolutely his best vocal creation to date. And is the epitome of what your description of Psychosocial is. 10x more so than Psychosocial
@xNewWorldOrphanx no. You just like Iowa the best. His vocal range and clarity in screams and clean are best in Liars funeral, fundamentally. Try again
@@beantown702 lol music is subjective. that's the whole point. or do you not understand that basic concept? basically, prove his vocal range improved as opposed to him utilizing skills he already had. bands change their sound all the time and its quite common for bands to edge more towards a radio friendly sound when they achieve more mainstream popularity. so calm tf down
My favorite vocal analyst doing one of my favorite songs. I love watching your videos, especially on songs like this because it’s almost like hearing it for the first time again.
Easy one of the most underrated metal songs of all time. Brilliant begin to end. This song has been broken down part by part where you can see why it is one of the best ever recorded.
For a really intense and dark (but unhealthy) vocal performance from Corey, you should definitely check some songs from the 2002 Disasterpieces live show, the whole band was in a pretty dark place at that time and you can hear all that in Corey's voice at this time, sadness, anger, depression, the vocals are insanely out there, but I believe that Corey said he was damaging his voice at this time because he wasn't using proper technics. Definitely check Purity, Disasterpiece, Gently, or any song from that live really... But especially Gently, this live version had one of the darkest vocals Corey ever did, at least that's what a loooot of Slipknot fans says about that performance
The studio version has a few parts that are more extended than the video version, and I think those extra pieces really make the song feel more complete. I do recommend experiencing album versions for all of Slipknot's tracks, since many of their videos do cut pieces out.
If you want to hear a really good example of Corey's voice the '1:37:39 Through Glass' or '4:41 Bother' of the "Corey Taylor - Live in London (Full Show)" video is really good. I know you appreciate a live performance and you can really hear his voice in the acoustic set.
Fun Fact: Corey was asked once "What was the most amount of work with the least amount of reward?" He said, "Winning the Grammy" 😂 He talked about how Rick Rubin hated the chorus and wanted him to change it and he said no because he really believed in it. Lol now Rick Rubin is a Grammy winning producer for a song he hated the chorus of.
Omg! That giggle at the start! So freakin cute!! Holy crap that was just raw excitement!!! Love that you’re becoming a metal chick. You’re helping me make the turn too. I’m not as new as you but seeing how much you just genuinely enjoy this, is AWESOME!! Keep being a freakin rad lady Elizabeth!
I really need to express how special this video was for us long time fans. Up till this video nobody had seen them without masks on. So walking through school hearing people talking about Slipnot removing there masks I remember my friends and I ran to the school Library to use the one computer we had that had internet to watch this video on Yahoo Music. Was so pumped to watch it. Love that your watching it. Hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!
Rick Rubin barely produced this record. Corey has been very vocal about how he feels about Rubins input, or lack thereof, on Vol. 3. He has gone so far as to say that he'll never work with Rubin again. Greg Fidelman, who engineered this album, was far more instrumental, and went on to produce The Gray Chapter and We Are Not Your Kind for Slipknot.
Yeah, that's pretty much the same what everyone said who worked with Rubin. He is not the most influential producer in the business. He just let the artist make his thing, and if the artist troubles to find his thing, Rubin helps to find it. It's almost like his work is more psychological, and coaching work, than that of a classic producer. And some love that, some hate that. I think System of a down got along with him very well. When Serj troubled to write a certain line for Chop Suey, Rubin told him to take a bible, open random page, and blindly put his finger on some words. That pretty much sums up Rubins style of work. 😆 I personally think Rubin is overrated. It's just that he worked with some of the most incredible artists in the music business. I think they helped him more, than he helped them. But he's a very likeable dude, and became an icon and a symbol. Artists want his name in their album credits.
Considering all the massive sounds of slipknot I always remember that bridge section in this song. Its so powerful on guitar and the perfect contrast to the brutality..!!
Slipknot is one of my favorite live shows I've ever seen. Corey is one of the best performers out there. His vocals are insane both clean and harsh live.
This song ignited my Metal flame in 7th grade! Just hearing it puts me back sitting out by the coke machines before school with friends jamming this, band shirts & bracelets for days 😂😢
I really wish Elizabeth would make a video Rival Sons one day. Im absolutely dead certain she would love it. Keep On Swinging live Gibson Session or maybe Shooting Stars would be such a banger with so much juicy moments to break down, both from the singing and the instrumentals. One day hopefully!🙏
You should check out the music video for "Left Behind" of their second album "Iowa". I am really curious on your opinion on his vocals at that time since that was Slipknot at their must brutal. Left Behind also has quite a bit of different vocal styles in it so I think it would make for a fun analysis!
I can't believe no one has recommended Periphery yet! Spencer Sotelo is their vocalist, and he has arguably the best range in metal at the moment. He can sing high and deliver some absolutely disgusting harsh vocals! I really recommend their song Satellites, as it captures all of Spencer's best vocal qualities.
You have to check out Breaking Benjamin. Ben Burnley really has a ton of skill, power and melody in his voice. He can do everything ranging from powerful yet very melodic vocals and growling (like on ;Diary of Jane', which would be the best song to start your journey with them, and 'Evil Angel') all the way to singing with an angelic voice like on the song 'Ashes of Eden' which I would also highly recommend you listen to.

I’ve been suggesting this song here for months. Thank you
His vocals on this album were a bit different because he blew them out during the Iowa tour.
(Edit: Actually it might've been Come What(ever) May he said blew his voice out, one or the other, but the vocals on that were basically the same as Vol 3)

hey dude, i read this and i really wanna know if you can play instruments because ive written some songs and want to sing them, but everyone shuns me away because im "too young". would love to talk on any platform u got
Corey Taylor is an absolute legend. I highly recommend listening to the live version of Bother by Stone Sour, which is his other band. His clean vocal ability is amazing
There’s a orchestral version of bother I believe that’s pretty great.
that whole live in london concert is great, highly recommend it, crowd is amazing to
@@blissedtvlove the acoustic from that show. Bother is in my top 10 favourite songs across all genres
Yes please, like to see what you think.
Also check out the lead singer of HIM and wings of a butterfly. Curious to hear what you think. Thank you
I just learned of Slipknot five years ago. Im 60 and they are one of my favorites, one reason is due to the fantastic drumming by both guys. Joey and Jay are excellent ❤
I’m nearing 50 and was a latecomer too 🤘🏼
Check out Caleb H Drummer. He is a 9 year old kid who is a massive Slipknot fan and a phenomenal drummer. He was invited up to play drums WITH Slipknot at one or their Birmingham gigs
Joey was such a great drummer. R.I.P.
@@OratoryJamesIVAbsolutely one of the best too ever do it 🤘
As a young teen Joey's drumming on Iowa, and specifically on the song People = Shit, was the first time I'd heard a blast beat and it blew my mind.
Look up Bertha by Stone Sour. You'll hear Corey on helium hehehehe :3
his duo with the lead singer from Tonight Alive, is a great show of his softer side. Jenna McDougall is her name
Home (official live) really shows off his less known qualities.
His covers are always a thing to behold, Particularly, Everlong, Black, The Best of You, Would, Lithium, and, of course, Spongebob Squarepants 😂. Seriously though, the man is talented beyond the recognition he gets and he gets quite a bit.
I would add "Bother", "Silly World", "Gone Sovereign", etc. Such a talented guy.
Exactly this!!
Same here, somebody said in her reacting to Panteras cemetery gates, her expressions towards Phil Rex and the of course insane Abbott brothers, it’s like a proud parent watching your kid enjoy the music you grew up to. Or on another twist, a grandkid showing his friends what his pappaw did in the war.. it’s a very proud feeling either way
One of my favorites from slipknot! “Vermilion pt.2 “ and “the nameless” are other great tracks from that album also 🔥🔥🔥
@@Messiah_Tv It was a real treat to watch them perform it. Great song overall.
@@nmmboy snuff is also great
@@Messiah_Tv Facts! Easily one of the best lyrics I’ve ever heard in a song. I love rewatching her reaction to his live performance.
@@nmmboy same here, so heartfelt
The conversation you would have with Corey Taylor would be amazing. He’s an amazing speaker
I would honestly love to see her go through the devil and I, by far my favorite slipknot song
@@lobsterzilla one of mine as well. I think she would love it too

Yeah that bothers me a lot. Longer version is so much better
Same with the intro and outro. Agreed it's not "noticeable" to a first time listen, but if you're used to the extended builds then there is a little bit of a let down there.
I never did understand why they cut hald the beidge out? It seems an extremely senseless thing to do
@@johnxina5126 probably meant as a radio version
This is a rare occasion where the music video version of the song is somehow more *raw* than the regular version of the song, despite being almost identical. LOVE this one
You mention them showing his mouth and teeth. That’s what made this video so special. It was the first time the band shed the masks for their music. Why everyone else in the background is blurred and no one persons entire face is shown.
This is Corey, vocals that can scare you to death one minute, bring you to tears the next. Brilliant.
Metal is just an amazing genre, it varies so much but there’s some amazing singers out there.

Corey has a neck the size of a tree trunk. You know that has a lot to do with his range and endurance. My love for this band will never die.
is it from muscles (shrugs) or just untrained?
In 2016 he underwent spinal surgery, because it was discovered that he had been walking around with a broken neck since early in his career.
His huge neck is a consequence of his own spine not holding his head up, while headbanging and so on. It was almost only his neck muscles that did all the work.
Happened at ozzfest 99' to be exact.
@@epiphica6166 ngl that just makes him sound even more badass lol
@@epiphica6166how did he break his neck at ozzfest?
THE most underratedly best of their songs. Corey is a legend. Thanks for your breakdowns I’m glad I found your channel !
Corey Taylor has to be one of the best voices in music, from metal to ballads. Acoustic to heavy he does it all amazingly
As a kid, I thought it was worm...
I was this many days old when I thought that.
I think it just means he's a lot more complicated than he seems.
I spent like at least a decade thinking it was “worm” because of maggot as a nickname for fans. It just made sense at the time.

Having Corey bounce back and forth between dirty and clean vocals is masterful on this song.

Elizabeth should evaluate "Wait and Bleed" I would love to hear her take on that one for sure!!!
Corey's voice is definatley unique. His vocal persona shifts as well depending on who is playing with and the song. From the animal aggression of Slipknot to slightly gentler Stone Sour to pained Corey with Apocalyptica.
Love this song in the gym. Really gets the blood flowing.
Really need to do "From Can To Can't" Corey Taylor, Dave Grohl, Rick Nielsen, Scott Reeder. Elizabeth will love Corey's vocals especially.
i can not state or express just how EXCITED my friends and i were when this video/song were about to drop.
I remember that!! However, I never saw the teasers, so I was happy enough with this. Few facial features!!! 🤣
It was such a brilliant move, it's still my favorite video of theirs

Either Bother or Through the Glass
I oftentimes walk, run, cycle around with this blasting in my ears and me shouting the lyrics without a care in the world. It feels very primal.
Gematria is my running go to
Watching your subtle head nods, show you’re not just listening but feeling the music. Music is truly transcendent.
We definitely need more slipknot reactions from you!
Also, Corey's solo live acoustic performance of 'Bother' is another great example of his vocals.
Love the London show where he plays with the audience and that one audience member he speaks to 😂
If you ever get a chance to see Slipknot live, take that chance. Whether you're their biggest fan or not, it's an experience worth having, they are just that good
Most people are not but if you're a person who likes pits. They have the greatest pits out of any band I've ever seen
This song was released some time before they revealed their faces to the audience and fans. Up to that point of reveal, the fans only knew the masks. So the music video was, for a while, the closest thing to seeing the face beneath the masks.
I’m nostalgic for the original Slipknot. To think Joey and Paul aren’t here anymore hurts my heart.
I found your channel a few weeks ago. When I discovered ren. My first video here was hi ren. And since then ice binned your entire channel. I can't get enough. Liz you are amazing. One of my favorite songs. I’d love to see you do some more deep dives into Stone Sour and Corey’s more clean singing!
LOVED your reaction to the first: "GO!" lol
Corey is the beast, he has so range and controll :) i'm a huge fan since high school almost 20 yrs about :D
@@beantown702 absolutely not. His vocals peaked with their release of Iowa
@xNewWorldOrphanx no. You just like Iowa the best. His vocal range and clarity in screams and clean are best in Liars funeral, fundamentally. Try again
@@beantown702 lol music is subjective. that's the whole point. or do you not understand that basic concept? basically, prove his vocal range improved as opposed to him utilizing skills he already had. bands change their sound all the time and its quite common for bands to edge more towards a radio friendly sound when they achieve more mainstream popularity. so calm tf down
@xNewWorldOrphanx "im stupid so music is subjective"
This was the song that started my metal journey back in 2004 or 2005, so this holds a special place in my heart (and for most I’d say). LET’S GO!!
Actually just go with Brother, just rewatched it and it is amazing!!
You are the only person I know that could turn Slipknot into a college prep class that I feel like I should be paying for. Love it.
You should definitely do Left Behind next. That song contains some of the most crazy vocals Corey has ever done.
That would be fantastic! I would enjoy "Jordan" live version
I love so much the excitement in your voice when it comes to music almost bursting out of you
Elizabeth is so pure and sincere &, of course, an incredibly talented singer and vocal coach, keep up the great work ❤
You should check out the music video for "Left Behind" of their second album "Iowa". I am really curious on your opinion on his vocals at that time since that was Slipknot at their must brutal.
Left Behind also has quite a bit of different vocal styles in it so I think it would make for a fun analysis!
I love her expressions when she gets excited over a song. It's like a personification of how I feel when the adrenaline starts pumping.
It's the face of pure joy
I can't believe no one has recommended Periphery yet! Spencer Sotelo is their vocalist, and he has arguably the best range in metal at the moment. He can sing high and deliver some absolutely disgusting harsh vocals! I really recommend their song Satellites, as it captures all of Spencer's best vocal qualities.
I recommended that same song months ago! Hopefully this gets seen this time
Always a pleasure to take a trip back in time with you Elizabeth and see it in a new light in insights ! :)
