Hello lovelies! I know there was a recent FTC settlement with BetterHelp in regards to patients' data being used for advertising purposes between 2017 and 2020. I have had discussions with the BetterHelp teams, and it’s been relayed that at no time have any members’ names or clinical data from therapy sessions ever been shared with any advertisers, publishers, social media platforms or any other similar third parties. You can read this in more detail in their Privacy Policy here: www.betterhelp.com/your-questions-answered/ Additionally, since the settlement they have been certified by HITRUST, which is an industry-recognized gold standard for providing the highest level of information protection. It is one of the most recognized data security certification programs in the health industry. I would never promote a product I didn’t deeply believe in, and BetterHelp is a service that helps some of us find the therapists we may need to help us through those dark times, or prevent dark times. @TheCharismaticVoice How about a reaction on Coldrain - Gone? They are a big Japanese band that sing in english. I would like to know your opinion on the lead singer (Masato) his vocals and possibly insight on how to reach those notes.
The company is using legal speak to sidestep critique. It, by the FTC's report on the matter, disclosed user's email address, IP address, and health questionnaire's with large advertising agencies. While not directly showing names many user's names are in their email address. As for the second one I don't know what constitutes as healthcare info by their definition but a health questionnaire would, at least for me, fall under that banner of private medical info. While the HITRUST certification does help credibility I still have a hard time trusting a company that has in the past had such a lapse in judgement to sell user health questionnaire's to Facebook. In a country where federal fines are considered an operating cost in the same way that bribing politicians are, I just don't trust a publicly owned for profit company to have access to information of such importance. That being said I don't fault you for taking the ad. My distrust of corporations is systemic and so I am deeply distrustful of publicly traded companies (and private ones that are extremely massive), but that is my opinion. I could see how increasing access to therapy would be a worthy cause in most peoples eyes and with a HITRUST certification I completely understand taking it, I personally just wouldn't want to take the risk if something like that happened in the past.
The band suffered losses, introduced new members, told a story passing the baton over from one version of the band to another, new masks, killed off their old imagery (graphically) using their own fears of 'worst ways to die'. Epic.

Great video! It may have been recommended to you or pointed out, but I am sure Corey would sign up for the science of what is going on in his throat (cammed up) on any song. He is a genuinely kind person that has given his time to a lot of podcasts. He believes in people, it's always the "it's the fight in the dog" mentality with him, it seems, which really lets his humility shine. Keep up the stellar work! 👍
Chris is afraid of birds, Craig is afraid of dogs, Mick is afraid of that one scene in Poltergeist, Corey and Jim hate explosions. Also, "The Devil In I" is really about the war inside yourself, he said. "Trying not to give into defeatism, trying not to give into negativity, trying not to give up basically. It's a struggle. It's one of the hardest things you can do is to give in to that side of yourself."
seems like the title of the song is about fighting against that side we all have that we can't stand or hate. mine has always been with "fight or flight syndrome". particularly the fight side of it. it is difficult for me to lose my temper but once i do, i am no longer human. there is no thought or memory during that time. i go purely on animal instinct in which i have no way of controlling what i do. i actually fear what i may do during one of those times that i have no control over what i'm doing. thankfully, i have never caused more than minor injuries. i have no memory of any of those episodes other than what i have been told afterwards. it is one of the reasons i live alone.
I enjoy how you take art that is so dark and heavy and analyze it through such a perceptive and compassionate lens. I also salute you for addressing mental health.
Hi Elizabeth! I'm a new fan that fell in love with your channel after watching all of your Shinedown content! I am SO hooked on your videos! I wanted to make a reccomendation, and hope this is the right format to do so. I would love to see you react and analyze a Here Come The Mummies song! They are a fun and award winning jazz-funk-fusion band with a STRONG humor element. Instrumentally and vocally, they are extremely talented once you peel back the layers of shtick and humor! Thanks for bringing joy with your channel!
Bother is great at showing his range if compared to other songs, but I think something like Sadist off of House of Gold & Bones Pt. 2 or even Me Inside off of Slipknot show his range within a track.
What you said about mental health in music is so true, I’m a drummer/ songwriter in a band , 1 song in particular I wrote following the death of my wife, hearing that replayed every time we play is so bittersweet, hearing this song which to me is almost poetry and replaying the loss I felt and still feel stirs feelings and memories both good and painful every single time, best way I can describe it is to imagine the women you love and adore dieing then every time you go to work someone talks to you about her forcing you to to think about it, on 1 hand you love thinking about her but on the other you’re reminded she’s no longer with you, the wound stays fresh and never heals.
Glad you noticed the differences in the ears as well. Simply because of how many people/instruments are in the band slipknot tend to always focus the left ear more on the clean sounds and the right ear on the distortion. This also helps you hear each sound a bit better on top of the additional feelings it gives.
Your innocence is now gone forever. Your facial expressions are so entertaining throughout. I watched the prettier vocals draw you in to blow your mind in chorus. So amusing!!!
I know right? I respect content creators choosing to advertise services for income, but damn it's difficult to support them when they're pushing such an evil service like better help.
You should check out Architects. It's a perfect mix of energetic high and low screaming together with beautiful clean vocals. I'd recommend the live version of "Royal Beggars".
Ha! Glad you liked it! And yes, we totally agree mental health is crucial and you deserve help if you’re going through tough times. Your life is a blessing! Don’t end it!
Speaking of Live vs Video, Anoana Live by Heilung is beyond a great example of an amazing video vs an even Better Live performance. The way she goes up with it at the end is an awesome way to end it with the mix between highs and Kai's lows. Always good to see your video explanations and breakdowns of music!
I remember in your tea time interview with Alissa White-Gluz how she too talked about how it's easier for her to switch between harsh and clean vocals during a song precisely because they use different muscles within the throat. She doesn't do this nearly at all in her new band: Arch Enemy, though 1 of the 2 times she did do so, the song Reason to Believe, actually fits perfectly with your focus on mental health, and is a great song in its own right for you to cover on the channel. Though it's in her work with her previous band: The Agonist, where she switched between harsh and clean vocals a lot in nearly(if not) every song. Some song recommendations from the Alissa era of The Agonist are: Business Suits and Combat Boots, Thank You, Pain, Panophobia and Rise and Fall. You can also check their newer material with their new vocalist, as they maintained their style of switching between harsh and clean vocals.
I love this song so much, but was definitely caught off guard when I first saw the video 😂😂 I think you should definitely check out tracks like nameless, vermillion pt.2, Nero forte, my plague, and dead memories 😭🔥🔥🔥

"you should've burned when you turned on everyone" that line gives me goosebumps every time. You should react to the Iowa album, his vocals have never been that insane since.
You should definitely check out "Dead Memories," at some point, for another great showcase of Corey Taylor's singing. It's one of Slipknot's songs that could be described as "beautiful" or "pretty."
My two favorite vocalists on the planet here. One that is singing this song and one that is examining this song from the standpoint of another professional singers point of view!! That is awesome!!

Hello Elisabeth, thanks for the great reaction video! Seeing the music video for the first time was... yeah :D I'm curious, have you considered making a teatime interview with Corey Taylor?? I think it would be interesting for you both to discuss things, not only singing things =)
The contrast, the emotion, the ups and downs is what keeps me coming back to Slipknot. They're just like life. Extreme contrast. I love it. Too many times, we've let it come to this! \m/
If you haven't already, snuff by Slipknot is a great, emotional song. I'd love to hear you take on it! Also, thanks for your videos. I always look forward to them and the occasional premiere that I'm able to make it to!
@TheCharismaticVoice at 24:56 when you replay the part when everything goes quiet then explodes out again. That's the vacuum create by the blast. You're a trooper for getting through this, too. I love these guys. If you want Corey more traditional try "Vermillion Pt. 2." It's Slipknot's unplugged version of that. I prefer their other works when I need to annihilate the madness within, though.
There are new masks for every new album. This video represents the death and rebirth of each band member/character and the arrival of 2 new members then: the bassist and the drummer. It’s like a rite of passage, like the phoenix metaphor, except, as a metal band, they stressed on the death part for the disturbing effect of the visuals. Great video and great concept. By the way, check out their current new drummer, Eloy. He’s a beast.
Corey's live set in London is just beautiful and I'd love to see you react to either Bother (which is also incredible for the crowd involvement as well as Corey's singing) or Snuff, which is a truly personal song and you really get Corey at his stripped down soul bearing best.
Word of warning Elizabeth, Better Help has had controversies in the past about their "therapists" not actually being licensed therapists, aka, should NOT be talking with people in distress
That was definitely something stated on their website, which has now been removed language. And truth be told, I used the service for 6 months myself, and it took me 3 different matches until I found someone I vibbed with.
I would love to see a podcast of this. Invite the band or vocalists n talk about it together. I feel like you break these down so well that the artists would love this as well!
Just going to put in my bid for a song from Slipknot's self titled album or Iowa. These two in particular were where Corey was still really thrashing his voice, it's be super interesting to get your perspective on the evolution he's had.
I got excited seeing this one! This was the first Slipknot song I'd heard, and it helped me through a very rough part of my life mental health wise by giving me a newfound sense of purpose I guess, in that I then knew what I wanted to do with my life, being writing and performing music. I was interested in music, but this song REALLY cemented that passion, which I'm very thankful for. The other thing is that I'm pretty sure the actions in the music video are inspired by the members' fears. Jim hates explosions, Chris hates birds, Sid needs his fingers for DJ'ing, etc. But I also have a suspicion that the stabbing scene was maybe meant to be seen as an initiation, since the guys in the wheelchairs, Jay and Vman, were new members at the time. Up until that point you only see them in the wheelchairs, but after the stabbing they're also seen in the room playing their respective instruments. That's my headcanon at least lol
With all the times Elizabeth has covered Slipknot (apparently heeding her followers' recommendations), I'm pretty flabbergasted that she has yet to do any of the songs from the band's prime era, their first two albums, before Corey blew out his screaming voice. If she thinks she's heard his harshes, but hasn't listened to anything off of Iowa or the self-titled album, then she hasn't heard anything... His voice became a dry desert compared to the beast it was on those albums, likely because he didn't treat it well during that time, but boy did it give us some gnarly performances. It's gotten a little better again in recent years, but I reckon likely won't ever be quite like those old screams again. I'd suggest "Wait and Bleed", the song that really kicked off their stardom, but it's so short. She can't do something like "Surfacing" because half of the video would be silent from all the censoring. Perhaps "Eyeless" for its raw intensity... or how about "Purity", with it's mix of vocal techniques and haunting chorus cleans? Anything from those first two albums would be great to see her react to, though, even though most of the choices would likely be quiet intense (and in some cases downright scary) for someone of her sensibilities. Either way, it'd make for great entertainment! 🤣
Dear Elizabeth, could you react to Mastodon songs some day? This band has three vocalists: Troy Sanders, who is their longest time vocalist, Brent Hinds on lead guitar and Brann Dailor on drums. Their voices are amazingly different and still can fit into their songs. Highly recommend Pushing the Tides, Curl of The Burl or Teardrinker. Or listen Sultan's Curse for all three of them!
I don’t know how many do this, but I use music like this in a way that when I sing/scream to it, I embody the emotions which let them out and leave me feeling just a bit more at peace than before.
I'll say it again. You really need to do a reaction to In This Moment. Maria Brink is almost a gender swapped Corey Taylor. They both expertly know how to use harsh and clean vocals for max effect. BIG BAD WOLF would be a great start and you can feed your inner cosplay geek
Terrible way to describe Maria....it's more like she's the female version of Cory Taylor....she's a real female.....and I don't have bow to other people's delusions....just saying.
I recommend you listen to this one "SoundCity - From Can to Can't"... and there are 2 versions on RUclips, the first is the official video and the other is how Corey's voice was recorded

When you talked about communicating immotion in a simple way with a limited range, it reminded me of this song. (You'll get yours aplenty by Blaze Foley) the song is only 2 minutes long but there's a whole world of immotion and meaning to be found in some simple observations with the right inflection and a guitar. The best way that I can think to describe. It is soul crushingly simple for those who have eyes to see. Thanks for another great analysis.

Hi Elizabeth!! New sub here and I'm thoroughly enjoying you break down songs from a different perspective. I'd love to see you do some content on Otep 😁 one of my favorite songs of theirs is Ghostflowers 🤘🏾
so this is the new strategy of betterhelp? before they onboarded phillip defranco to vouch for them, and now they are aware that people know they're shady so they prep the content creators with a PR statement beforehand lol lmao this is the same as a VPN or crypto sponsorship btw, you might think it's harmless or not your business what your audience does, but these things are inherently predatory. I was a therapist for them for a very short time. They are an awful company. Treacherous. I had a terrible experience working for them. I no longer watch anyone sponsored by them. That pr garbage used to justify the use of that sponsor and then to use the mental health or an artist in the same video is frankly, shameful. I'm sure this comment will also be deleted 😅
@@Dana_Rose_ I have zero intention of deleting your comment, and I don’t know why you think we would? There are a lot of companies that have questionable employment practices, and yet are extremely popular. Amazon, Walmart, Tesla. Even the diamond trade. Diamonds are forever… And yet, there’s no product that I know of that can provide a therapist or counselor to someone who lives in the remote reaches of rural areas. I’d love a solution that can provide mental health to them when no mental healthcare exists. Please, if you have a solution for that, let me know.
I'm amazed that we've not yet seen a reaction to the amazing Kasey Chambers cover of Eminim's "Lose Yourself" Even if you don't know the original, it's a truly spectacular thing in its own right.
Well, as a man who has sang baritone, to tenor opera and metal. There is a way to sing metal that saves your vocal chords and builds them up as well. As male and female vocal chords are different (women have chest and head voice, with an optimal range of 4-7 octaves is amazing, men have an octave range of 2-4. However, we have 3 different voice sets chest, head and falsetto). If you genuinely want to do a comparison of the difference between male and female, compare Randy Blythe and Maria Brinks! Love you content!
For some fun, Corey Taylor gave “voice” to a Doctor Who creature called the Fisher King in an episode called “Before the Flood”, it’s a sound that when you hear it you immediately ask yourself “Was that Corey??” 😂
I normally don't watch reacts, but I gave you shot and I'm so glad I did. I'm a metal singer (Not a pro), and can copy Corey quite well. Also, the video is a release, as their friend and bassist, Paul Gray, died. The video is them killing themselves with their old masks on and being reborn in their new masks. Subbed and liked.
"Hard work beats talent, unless talent works hard." is a quote I heard once that I feel apply to a lot of musicians. Lots of people are born with the anatomy to be great singers, but the greatest are always the ones who dedicate themselves to their craft, regardless of their birth.
She should do more reaction to Poets of the fall or their alter ego, Old Gods of Asgard. I mean songs like, Children of the sun, love will come to you, Herald of darkness.... etc.
I hate horror movies, I get so grossed out too by Slipknot videos. But I love so many of their songs. Thanks for the analysis! Corey Taylor's voice is phenomenal, even his speaking voice sounds so big.
Hello! Newbie here, big fan of your channel. Corey Taylor’s “clean” voice is amazing in a song called “Me inside” off their 1st album. As much as I like Slipknot for as hard as they hit, his vocals on that track made it my favorite on the album. I really just wish it was longer!
Please look into analyzing Paul McCartney's voice from the live album "Wings Over America" (1976). His voice on the album ranges from pleasantly smooth, to full out rocker, to even bluesy. He is truly the man of a thousand voices!
You gotta check out their first two albums where corey was screaming in the worst way possible for his voice. Songs like eyeless, heretic anthem, or spit it out
Got to admit I like your heebee jeebees reactions to some of these videos... It is fun listening to you break down Corey Taylor's vocals cause he's crazy talented.

Stone Sour - Bother is probably what you want to look into if you want to see Coreys vocal range
I want her to do Omega lol
Another good one.
Bother is great at showing his range if compared to other songs, but I think something like Sadist off of House of Gold & Bones Pt. 2 or even Me Inside off of Slipknot show his range within a track.
Bother live with Keith Caputo at the road runner live
Seconded but also Hesitate
Great stuff. Never change Elizabeth!

@@paddington1670 Can't see California without Marlon Brando's eyes.
Hell yeah!
@@paddington1670 Hi Paddington 👋 🎸

You should check out Architects. It's a perfect mix of energetic high and low screaming together with beautiful clean vocals. I'd recommend the live version of "Royal Beggars".
The live at Abbey Road version of Impermanence would be amazing to get a breakdown of. Sam's vocals are always so good.
Old video I know but the hectic double bass inclusion during "too many times we've let it come to this" is just masterful.
I would love to see a analysis of the singer of Avatar Johannes Eckerström, he has some insane harsh vocals and some angelic cleans
Probably Bloody Angel would be a good start
I'm gonna check that out! but if you're into clean to harsh, Periphery's singer is insanely good at that.
I would love a reaction to "let it burn"
@@Kyson98 Let It Burn does have some interesting notes in it that he hits. I would even compare a couple of them to Halford

thanks for reacting to this song i've been waiting for a while
Fun fact: As part of their initiation, the band actually stabbed V-Man and Jay Weinberg to death.

I'll say it again. You really need to do a reaction to In This Moment. Maria Brink is almost a gender swapped Corey Taylor. They both expertly know how to use harsh and clean vocals for max effect. BIG BAD WOLF would be a great start and you can feed your inner cosplay geek.
Never heard her compared to Corey. Always been Mansion. Still, I agree
Big Bad Wolf is a pretty weak song. Sex Metal Barbie, Sick Like Me, Whore, Fighter, much better choices imo.

Maria was better on her first 3 albums. Then she just went Manson/NIN and moans most of her lyrics now 😕
"you should've burned when you turned on everyone" that line gives me goosebumps every time. You should react to the Iowa album, his vocals have never been that insane since.
You should definitely check out "Dead Memories," at some point, for another great showcase of Corey Taylor's singing. It's one of Slipknot's songs that could be described as "beautiful" or "pretty."
It’s one of the only songs I can listen to loudly as loud noises usually panic me but it calms me
My two favorite vocalists on the planet here. One that is singing this song and one that is examining this song from the standpoint of another professional singers point of view!! That is awesome!!

Hello Elisabeth, thanks for the great reaction video! Seeing the music video for the first time was... yeah :D
I'm curious, have you considered making a teatime interview with Corey Taylor?? I think it would be interesting for you both to discuss things, not only singing things =)
Slipknot - Yen, awesome music
Elizabeth,
For Slipknot's "The Devil In I" might I suggest playing a drinking game involving Pepto Bismol.

The contrast, the emotion, the ups and downs is what keeps me coming back to Slipknot.
They're just like life. Extreme contrast. I love it.

One of Audioslave's best by far! I think a lot of people could and do relate to that song 🎵
The live version, where you can see how he makes that sound? Brilliant

It's fun watching you get nerdy about the voice, I like watching people get excitedly passionate.
If you haven't already, snuff by Slipknot is a great, emotional song. I'd love to hear you take on it!

Sweet. That was two albums ago but great! Three Maggots in one household, two generations. ❤🤘
I'm convinced getting gullible fans to call themselves maggots is a long standing troll on Slipknot's part.

Eiley - Too Close to Touch. Keaton's vocals and the lyricism are heart wrenching. RIP Keaton
God forbid a person in distress talks to a person who hasn’t got a Master’s degree. Whatever did we do before the experts came along?
They also don’t take health insurance and are insanely expensive
ill play my mini violin for you....who cares.
@@Charlie_Xmas They are indeed not serious - it's sarcasm. Anytime a sentence begins with "god forbid" it's usually sarcastic.

Nice lulabay with a so relaxing video! I thnk I'll finally sleep tonight🤣

Been listenning to this song for almost a decade now, and somehow noticed new things about it from this video. Props to you
Just going to put in my bid for a song from Slipknot's self titled album or Iowa.
This song resonates so well. I had trauma when I was a child and my mind split my psyche. It’s another entity in my mind. I feel this.
Gun Show live is better.
Maria brink is fan fucking tastic 🤘🤘
Terrible way to describe Maria....it's more like she's the female version of Cory Taylor....she's a real female.....and I don't have bow to other people's delusions....just saying.

the song is only 2 minutes long but there's a whole world of immotion and meaning to be found in some simple observations with the right inflection and a guitar. The best way that I can think to describe. It is soul crushingly simple for those who have eyes to see. Thanks for another great analysis.

It's similar to the vocalizations he makes in the song "Gently" on Iowa.
I normally don't watch reacts, but I gave you shot and I'm so glad I did. I'm a metal singer (Not a pro), and can copy Corey quite well.
