Ps the masks were from the beginning of the band. In the beginning no one knew their names or what they looked like. They literally went by numbers only. It wasn't until after their 3rd album that they took off their masks. So from '99 to '04 it was all about the music not them. So they just continue with the masks and come up with new masks now and again.

This song was made about the emotions felt from the passing of bassist and founding member Paul Grey and trying to move on without him. Also the deaths of the member are all symbolic to the members. Can't remember them all, but what I do remember. Sid eating his own fingers, he's a DJ, without them he's worthless, Chris Fehn has an intense fear of birds, Corey as has many front men had been known for having an ego. So he was blowing his old self away. The two people being stabbed were their new drummer and bassist Jey and V-man. That was their introduction into the band.

The creation of the song is correct but the meaning of the video isn't. The director asked each of the members what way would be their biggest fear of dying. He then recreated each of their biggest fears in the video as a way to give it the most realistic feel as possible to match the meaning of the song.

Im loving Metal Mondays. I love how knowledgeable you are about all music. The funny comments help too. Also from the begining each album has had different masks. So they keep evolving. Each person designs their own mask and basically it is how they feel inside.
I think you are pretty much there with the meaning. When they are "killing themselves" they have the old mask on. So they are basically killing that version of them and this is the new one. Also the 2 in the wheelchairs that they are stabbing are meant to be the Bass player who died and the drummer who left.

Also the deaths themselves are very symbolic, Sid (the dj) eats is hands (what he needs for scratching), Corey blows his head off (what he needs for singing) and mick rips his face off (he’s most known for that look and has worn that mask since 2004 and still wears the same style to this day)

With each album they have a new mask. This was the first single from the Grey Chapter and the video was symbolic their old masks or old selves were being killed and replaced with the new.

Hi Knox, love your videos. I've been a fan since early this year. Great work mate.
Why try out some Metal Bands that are not born in the U.S. Finland and Germany have a big Metal culture. There are some Metal Bands you could break down that don't go heavy on the growling.
Here are just some Dark Moor (Spain), Within Temptation (Denmark), Fairyland (France), Epica (Denmark) they have a growler too, Nightwish (Finland), Beast In Black (Finland), Lacuna Coil (Italy), Sabaton (Sweden), Powerwolf (Germany), Myrath (Tunisia)

Definitely take a look at Sabaton.
    To Hell and Back
    Dreadnought
    Stormtroopers
    Great War
    Shirioyama
    All are great choices.

so this song was wrote to deal with the passing of their bassist paul, and during this they got a new drummer as well. (notice during the final chorus is only when they actually play with the band, they're "killed" during the breakdown as a metaphor for "you have to die a little inside to understand how slipknot currently is." but each member goes through a metaphor used in describing grief. they lost paul. and everyone at sometime or another has said "i'd rather go through my worst fear then lose them." or "i'd rather be set on fire then feel this way." things of that nature. so they use a mixture of these to describe how they felt dealing with paul's passing.
sid: i'd rather eat myself alive to deal with losing paul.
mick: is a metaphor for just not feeling right in your own skin without them around, everything feels different now and uncomfortable. thus him peeling himself away down to the bone
clown: the extreme things people say "string me up and set me ablaze before hurting me like this."
jim and corey had pretty similar ones of "blow me to pieces please god, i dont wanna feel like this anymore." i think corey's was a tad different in that it was a metaphor for him blowing up alot when it happened and being beside himself really.
chris: would rather confront his worse fear which is birds, so he had birds set upon him and sat there in terror knowing it was better to confront that phobia than to admit paul is gone.
craig: would rather be mauled by rabid dogs and eaten alive if it meant having paul back.
grief hit them all like a lead brick kicked off a roof. and it was soothing making this video knowing they were venting this finally.

I'd love to hear you interview Corey Taylor. He's immensely talented and well spoken. When you hear his solo work and Stone Sour, it's hard to believe it's the same guy singing. He's also been in the biz long enough that his son's band has opened for them and is making a name for himself.

Before their first gig (Halloween 95), the members asked eachother what they was wearing, Shaun 'Clown' Crahan pulled out a clown mask to sybolise his nickname and stated he was wearing it. It was decided by 1997 that each member would have a unique mask and trademark jumpsuit

Also, you still have a whole treasure trove of material from bands like Metallica, iron maiden, Black Sabbath, Dio, Megadeth, Anthrax, Slayer, Tool, A Perfect Circle, and so many others to go through.

Don't think this would qualify for Metal Mondays, as it's like alternative/punk rock, but you need to do My Chemical Romance. Unless they've been removed, done on patreon, or something you've never reacted to them, which surprised me a little. MCR are amazing and have many influences that I think might peak your interest. Queen, Iron Maiden, Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, and many others. Welcome To The Black Parade is their most popular, but they have a ton of good songs, like I'm Not Okay, Teenagers, Mama, Cancer, I Don't Love You, etc etc. Btw I love your content man, I've been a fan for years.

@@jessicafrazon7393 I was talking about MCR not Slipknot. Learn to read.
Edit: That was a bit hostile on my part, but you're accusing me of gatekeeping when I'm not. I'll explain what I meant in my comment, cause I see where it could confuse you. I was saying that MCR is alternative/punk rock, which makes me unsure if it qualifies for Metal Mondays or if it should be just a random reaction. Slipknot is metal and I'd never say otherwise.
