I'm a Marine Corps veteran and watch this video at least once a month and it breaks me down every time. I've been homeless 3 times in my life and have PTSD after trauma unrelated to my military service. I've lost way too many that I've worked with to suicide since I served (from '02 to '07).
Well I really hope you are doing alright now. I thank you for your service and I am also sorry for your losses. I hope you stay safe and make some happy memories.
a thing that can help with PTSD is mushrooms. I try to do it once a year and focus on healing some aspect. I know saying thank you for your service is looked down upon by many but I mean it. Thank you brother!

@Mike I don't look down upon it so much as I never know how to respond to it. I do like when people say "thank you for your sacrifice" instead of service, though.
As far as shooms go, I work on government contracts and don't want to risk losing my security clearance over something like that. Plus, I require opiate pain medicine and I doubt they would interact well. Appreciate the suggestion, though.

Im an Australian Veteran, and even though this is US based... we face the same issue here. This song still hits hard and I thank each and every person that put their hand up and signed a blank cheque for their country and i urge you to reach out if you need help, many groups out there will listen and assist. Remember, you are NEVER alone!! Love and respect to my military Brothers and Sisters. 💜🇦🇺

One thing you missed that always gives me goosebumps, at 11:10 in your video, the two soldiers dont just recognise each other, he actually mouthed "You know me, you saved my life brother"

That scene where the kid tries to give the veteran some flowers and is quickly taken away by her mother, and seeing the face of complete defeat of the veteran always makes me cry.
That broke my heart, but also made me a little angry. Whether he was a veteran or not, he's still a human being.
Being married to a disabled veteran this broke me when I saw another veteran react to it. He could barely get to the end! Thank you Knox ☮

I remember talking to some guys at AIT reception that were mortuary affairs. Something that I don't think I could do, but I appreciate what you guys do for my friends.
At 6:00 you hit on exactly what this song was written about. Many of us deal with the ethical conflict of war, and we feel unworthy of heaven because of what we've done, yet not deserving of hell because of the reasons we did it.
I served 20 years in the Army, 4 combat tours (48 total months), and I use this song regularly to help ground me during times of heavy PTSD

I am a veteran and I was homeless with my wife and I started to get help and I'm now a homeowner and this song makes me tear up everytime people don't understand what we went through

As a Aussie Digger who served in frontlines in Afghanistan, this song hits home.
I've lost alot of mates to suicides, after the war.
Every country needs to look after their veterans, as we are the protectors of the values of each country.
Been out for almost 9 years and this song still breaks me. Every single time. The VA doesn't have anywhere near enough capability to care for all the vets that need help. The SSVF program helped get me off the street and cleaned up. Now I've been clean since February and got a job and my own apartment. Please, look into any local programs that support your local vets.
Fyi the VA is government ran. So we don't have enough $$ for the VA but can send billions to countries that want to blow us up ( some that we send our service men and women to. )
Our government is screwed up.

This song breaks me every time I hear it. My nephew was a proud Marine. He enlisted when he was 18. The day after he got home from his 5th deployment in 2015, we got the call that he had become one of the 22 a day. He was 25 years old.
So sorry for the loss of your brave nephew. So many demons and too little help for those battling them. 🥲

Thanks for reacting to this... Nov 1 of this year will mark 20 years ago when I hugged my only 2 sons goodbye and left for Afghanistan. What returned was just a human trying to comprehend why I was still even living for the next decade. I made awful choice's and probably broke hearts of some close people. 20 years later and I got to put my 3rd son to bed tonight after he had an exciting toddler day. I hope all you brothers and sisters that return keep fighting through the fog and dark times for the days when the sunlight breaks through a while. Therapy, stoicism, cannabis and nature are a good start if anyone is still lost reading this. ❤

This song with the video always gets the tears going. I listen to 5FDP all the time. Ivan is definitely a great singer. Any of the songs are great to react to. The Tragic Truth would be a good one to react to as it shows him fighting his demons of alcoholism.

My dad was a Force Recon Marine who served in Vietnam. He was not the same when he came home. I only reconnected with him right as I enlisted.

@@davidpoole7098 Nickelback hate is easy. Every song sounds the same, they never try to evolve or change. They actively sacrificed creativity for profit. It's pop music not rock, and that's fine, but keep them off my rock stations and in my rock concerts.
FFDP gets hate because Ivan Moody is an asshole, he knows it and he doesn't care who says it about him or who he pisses off. It doesn't bother me, at least he's got something to say and is willing to take a stand but a lot of people don't think that way.

I grew up in a military town so i have much respect for our veterans. One of my close friends (he was my AA dad) was a Vietnam War veteran. He used to tell me stories about how he was treated when he came back home after the war. He used to cry, and that broke my heart. Terry always reminded me of someone who was supposed to be in Tombstone, AZ during the old west times. He had a hard exterior, but a very gentle heart. I cry every time I watch this video. The homeless man at the end was the soldier that saved the man that walked up to him. He saw him and wanted to do what he could to save his life in return. A soldier will do whatever they can to never leave a soldier behind. They take care of each other, and we as American citizens should do whatever we can to help our soldiers live a happy life. We owe them that and so much more.

My ex was almost homeless when he got back from his first tour in Afghanistan and me and my fiance let him move in with us, didnt even charge him rent. Id do it again too. I will never understood how friends and family can just turn their backs on our soldiers. I understood not letting a stranger move in but how many have family and friends that dont offer help. Yes it can be difficult but its more difficult for them when their on their own without any help or support. Just being there or offering them a bed can help alot.
Does anyone notice the way Jacolby (the African American soldier) picks Ivan up, it's the same exact way Ivan picked him up when he was wounded.....
I can’t help but cry every time I hear this song and think of all my battle buddies that didn’t make it back home. Some of them coming up on 14 years gone. We were just kids in 08’ graduating high school and never knew what was in store. I wish we had more resources and help for veterans.

I'm an Air Force veteran and this song always hits deep because i have know friends that are no longer with us. i always listen to this song at least once a week so that i can keep their memories alive inside me. i will always donate to any/all of those organizations that i possibly can. i have been personally close to being one of those 22 a day, and my wife will never know what timing she had when she came into my life and helped heal me without even knowing it. i can never thank her enough for always being there and almost 2 years ago giving me a daughter that words can never explain the love i have for her. if i could physically continue to serve i would do it in a heart beat just to know that i am doing everything i can to protect my family.
My brother is in the air force while my grandfather and great grandfather were both veterans. So this hits hard for me. Every time I watch that video I think of what my grandfather and great grandfather went through, as well as what my little brother might go through in the future. It leads me to give a helping hand whenever possible.
This video is one of the few things that can bring tears to my eyes, it does every time i watch it.. Any veterans seeing this video, I appreciate your sacrifice to this country more than words in a comment can do justice.

None of them are veterans, but they do so much for our community. I'm a Marine Corps vet and have followed their work for years.

I was active duty in the Marine Corps 14 years. Deployed 6 times to war zones for various reasons, most that I don’t agree with. I didn’t go for the politicians that sent me there. I went for my brothers to the left and right of me. I went for my wife and daughters, but I came back a different man. I have been on the verge of making the dumbest decision of my life on more than one occasion, but luckily my support system is very strong and have pull me up time and time again. Thank you Knox for covering this song and bringing light to the veterans who struggle daily. It means the world to many of us. Believe it or not, just seeing this video could have brought a veteran from the brink and been what they needed to hear to help them through another day.
next five finger death punch song you gotta hear is their cover of LL cool J's mama said knock you out which features tech n9ne. it was either on this album or the other album the righteous side of hell (dual release, the other side of heaven was one album, the righteous side of hell is the other half)
I heard this song on a friend's playlist while helping him out with renovations on a house. I later looked up the video out of curiosity because I liked the song and I wasn't prepared for its message. What's crazy is the friend who had the song on his playlist by letting me help work on the house renovation helped me out of a run and through a time where I was not feeling my best mentally. And it wasn't by talking about my issues it was about getting me out my families house and giving me something to do.
I'm still not where I want to be but this song is apart of the start of my recovery and I know I'll get there eventually. How ever I hope that more veterans get the help they need. They more than deserve help, appreciation and recognition for their services

I'm not a vet, but my family are all combat vets, my brother served in Iraq, my cousin as well, my grandpa Vietnam, and great grandpa Korea. I have mad respect for all vets and this gets me every time I watch it.

Us army vet, combat arms in the 101st Airborne Division. This song and video gets me everytime. Ive been homeless, married 3x now. Diagnosed with PTSD, and a list of other thingsfrom my 2 deployments. Been blown up, shot at, returned fire the whole 9. This video is an eye opener. And honestly one of the few things i feel any emotion from now. At 19 i didnt get the weight of it. But pushing 40, now i do and its tough. Thanks for caring Knox.

My father has been in for almost 20 years and is still going and while he was deployed he had one of his men off himself and it has done a big deal of damage to my father because he was not able to save the man. Our veterans don’t deserve this type of treatment and sometimes really needs to be done.
These guys put on an amazing show. And at each show they show respect and honor to all the veterans in attendance. It is such an awesome portion of the show. This band is very outspoken about the fact that veterans deserve so much more than they are given. But I do hope that you will check out other songs from them!

My grandfather served with the 1st Marine Division during World War II as an automatic rifleman and earned a Purple Heart and Presidential Unit Citation during the battle of Okinawa. He never talked about his time in the Marines and never let on that he had PTSD of any kind but we knew. He couldn't stand to be around live fireworks. He was lucky enough to be able to go to our local VA hospital for doctors appointments when my grandparents moved to Florida in the early 50's. I always thought it was great that they covered his health care because of his income. He was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in July and died October 18, 2002 just 9 days shy of his 77th birthday. His motto was once a Marine, always a Marine.

I was almost one of those 5000 vets who end their life. I luckily failed. But its definitely a major issue that just gets swept under the rug. We struggle so much and give so much during our service and when we are done we get walked to the gate, get a handshake and an empty thank you, and are just left there. Its horrible. Ive been fighting the VA for 8 years to get my disability compensation.

I served 4 years in the Marines, ad I've lost too many friends to the demons that haunt us vets. I have moments of I guess imposter syndrome where I don't believe I was in the military at all. I dissociate alot from my military self because it changes you as a person, and the process of leaving the military doesn't do much for preparing you for the civilian world. I've been out for 9 years and still struggle daily with thoughts of being a statistic, my wife is a vet as well and she is my anchor back to reality.
I listen to this song atleast once a week and it still brings me to tears, reminding me of the friends I've lost over the past years. Thank you for introducing more people to this video. It's beautiful and painful, but I don't regret the decision I made as a kid to join and fight. But I gained immense mistrust in our institutions, and I don't think that will ever go away

every time i watch this video, i always shed tears, im a Navy veteran, but i have had friends and family in most of the branches, and i have been homeless myself, it hurts every time i see a homeless veteran, knowing what they are going through, and the demons they are battling

I'm not ex military. I am contractor and I was in Iraq and Afghanistan for 15 years. I've worked for and along side hundreds of our servicemen. This song is quite literally the only thing on earth that brings me to tears. I can't stand up when I hear it. To anyone else who was over there and who is struggling, you are in my prayers every single night. I hope you find the help that our government can't be bothered to find for you. I sincerely wish there was more I could do and I'd help all of you if I could. Just know there are plenty of us thinking about you and praying for you all over the nation.
