From an article about the song: Lead singer Corey Taylor explained: "Did you ever get that headache that is just not going to go away, and you end up sticking your thumb and your middle fingers so far into your eyes just to stop the pain? It usually has to do with making a choice. you get to that point in everyday life that you have to make a decision that you may not want to, but your kind of pushed into making that decision." >>
@@stevegruber4724 Not to forget, the video also resembling the migraines. A pretty normal and quiet house, getting swarmed by all these people making loud noises, bright lights, just an overall overload... it's exactly how i would describe a migraine. Agree! Saw them at download festival and during ‘if rain is what you want’ it started raining and I genuinely have never felt more of a connection to music. I just looked up like ‘this might be the best I’ll feel for a long time’. Was going through a rough time and man, it was so powerful
So pleasing to see a react video where you actually show you going through it in one go and we can see your expressions as they happen. Getting into the analysis after is a perfect way to do this.
The first song I ever heard by these guys was "Eyeless" and it will always be my favorite. 25 years later I still use it to decompress after any particularly trying day. So much rage it acts as a release.
I liked that you watched the whole video start to finish for your raw reaction, and then you went back and dissected it. I wish more music reaction videos did that. Good video.
That fullness, you mention, that Corey Taylor maintains, even with most of his harsh vocals, is a cornerstone of my metal experience. Metalheads sometimes say metal relaxes them, and with Corey's voice I can actually put my finger on it (for myself at least). His vocals feel centered. He is giving us all this emotion, aggression and harshness, yet more often than not it sounds like he still has a little more, if he wanted to. It feels stable. That mix of the harshness, providing such a good vent for my own frustration, and the control I hear in it, does a lot for me emotionally. It's not unique to metal. I can think of one non-metal song in which the vocalist manages to give me the same feeling. It's a powerful place to project from, I imagine.
@@graciehart777 what I was thinking of at the time was the band "nico touches the walls", and the song "broken youth" (ruclips.net/video/vCz-NPezf-k/видео.html). At around 1 min 55 sec for example. It's like you can hear the vocalist's body tension in their voice. It's not just sustain though. There is some emotional component as well, but I struggle to describe the nuances of it. Anyway. I was thinking of that song in particular, because it was the first I noticed it on. There is other examples though. Incubus - Pardon me, has some parts like that. Paramore - Hallelujah, especially the last section of it. It might actually be a lot more common in clean vocals. I guess it's harder to keep that controlled feel with harsh vocals.
I went to an outdoor SLIPKNOT concert, THEY BLEW ME, AND EVERYONE ELSE THERE, AWAY. I was apprehensive before the show how they would sound, THEY are great, and sound great LIVE
Your enthusiastic smile makes me smile enthusiastically. The Wonder and appreciation in your eyes refreshes my own senses in regard to the music. Your commentary gives insight and depth into something that I already know so well.
You must must must do a song from Mudvayne. The song "Happy", I think it will lend so well to your series and musical adventure. I have been watching your videos today and subscribed. I love your take on all these bands I grew up listening to. The first video I saw of your by random occurrence was the video you saw Tool for the first time and preforming "Sober" live. Then it started me down a rabbit hole of so many of your videos. You show so much respect to the specific talents and there is such an amazing innocent way of taking in the music and professionalism to all you say. I can honestly learn so much from your videos. I 100% do not hate that I came across your channel and can't wait to see more. Cheers and thanks for sharing your craft in the way you are doing it, so cool and respectful.
I was thinking Mudavyne as well. My impulse was to recommend "Death Blooms" , because it's a better showcase of Chad's vocals, but it's a bit more "experimental" in structure and may not be for everyone.
I was also thinking that something from Audioslave would be great too or sSoundgarden but after watching a few videos and saw Chris was listened to on a couple posts. I figured with something that may not have been known to the creator might be a better post for her. However, I would think the songs such as "Bring Em Back Alive" or "Light My Way" would be great suggestions too. I also just want to throw it out there but Queens of the Stone Age should be mentioned as a another path down the rabbit hole that should be experienced by all music appreciating owners of ears and lovers of talent.
Brilliantly worded. It’s truly mind blowing how well the deepest of existential themes can be expressed through both vocals and instruments. You can truly feel the pain they’re going through when writing this song. And as you mentioned, it’s truly authentic. It’s not just a song about anguish, anxiety, depression, mental breaking points, etc… it’s a connection to those existential, primal feelings. Sorry if you have but you should do an Opeth song. Either Harvest by Opeth or Ghost of Perdition Live at Red Rocks. I can tell by your body language and terminology that you’re connecting to it. Also, the way he kind of mumbles out the words in the very beginning of the song put you in this catatonic like lullaby state. Just in a more darker existential way.
Fun Fact about this video: this is actually a fans house. They willingly let hundreds of people destroy their house for a "Slipknot" video. Also, this song is about Corey Taylor having migraines, which the house serves as a metaphor for his head with all the people running in and breaking it being the pain from headaches. That's why in the parts where he's kinda talk-singing, he's sounding like he's got his hand on his own head to alleviate pressure and the line "I push my fingers into my eyes" also has the same relief-effect.
I hope he discovered acupressure points for the migraines like I did There are actually two, one on the eyebrow and one under the eye at the underside of the skull, that could be pushed instead So if anyone reading this suffers from headaches that make you wanna push your fingers into your eyes check it out
@@SpaceMissile yeah a lawsuit actually happened, certain parts of the house that needed to be renovated was allowed to be destroyed but they ended up destroying parts that weren't supposed to be touched. Roadrunner covered the damages which was around 75k
I love your actual first reaction where you didn't want to stop the recording even for a moment because you were, a little shocked, a little in a trance, a little in awe. Of course, I liked the later analysis as well, but it was all about the first impact. Love it
Ive never seen such a range of emotions all being shown on her face. From confused, repulsed, a bit scared, to intrigued, to mesmerized, to impressed, to a maggot. All in one song. Epic.
I had the chance to see Slipknot live in 2022, and I can say without hesitation that their show is an experience, and not just a "music concert". One awesome spectacle!
I have no idea what it is but just watching your facial expressions and you bobbing and feeling the music is so entertaining. Also really like how open you are to all different types of genres. So many people want to just shun away any type of metal music saying it's "just noise"
Also cool fact that harsh industrial symbol in the mix is Clown hitting an empty keg with a bat. Just like in the music video. They do it their live shows too haha
As many people have mentioned, your eyes gave away your reaction and I think that was incredibly amazing! I would absolutely LOVE to hear YOUR reaction to Slipknot's song Left Behind as that is one that really... REALLY resonates with everyone that I have played it for, including me. And, in my opinion, there hasn't been anyone that has reacted to this song and done it justice as I know you would! You're by FAR my favorite reviewer of songs! No fake reactions from you, which I love!
Bethany! I loved watching your facial expressions as you watched this video as the song played along.. your head just swaying back and forth.. was great
I absolutely love it, when the person reacting just lets the video run through once, letting you first: experience the song again and second: let you see their first reactions' raw emotion along to the song. And THEN you play it again with pauses (on the beat and on the 1 too mhhh thank you very much) and give your elaborate opinion. Great video
It's probably been mentioned, but if your looking for Corey Taylor's more vocal selections.... "Through Glass" is something I would love to see this type of reaction to
I appreciate your honesty, excitement and breakdown of Corey's vocals. I have been a long time fan of Slipknot and very few vocalists move me as much as Corey, this was a very fun video to watch and I will be watching your channel in the future.
Watching you watch this took me back to my first time hearing Slipknot. Which was this song. I love that youwatched all the way through and really soaked it up in its entirety
Friendly concern: I thought YT doesn't like whole video playbacks with little commentary at that time. Otherwise, I love your spot on breakdown of every detail that skipped my conscious by. That brings so much more understanding & appreciation for the song & artist, and your passion is so clear and infectious it resparks my love of music too. For that & your excellent content, I thank you very much 🙂
I love this format - almost nobody else has the basic respect to play a song through all the way before giving their reaction. When I was doing music at school, every time we analysed a piece, we always did this. The full track in its entirety, *then* and only then, back to the start & start the critique.
You have the most honest reactions, it's refreshing. If I'm not mistaken you are originally from Iowa, these guys are arguably have been the top metal band for years. That is something to be proud of as an Iowan. Great job on your videos, loved the Triumph reactions also.
I want to take this moment to thank you. When I watch your reactions, I see your sincerity for the beauty of music and lyrics. Many people get caught up in the appearance of Band X, and it distracts them from their real motives. The feeling that lyrics and sound cause us to emote. It is here where we identify, and the artist becomes relatable. In some ways, we feel like we 'know' the artist, even though we've never met. This is the beauty of the song.
I remember downloading the Video back in the day with one kind of proto ipod and watching it on my way to school I've completely absorbed it in its entirety to a point I feel like I was part of it I also make sure to wish blessings upon the people from the vid It's so raw and honest and energetic and never gets old So it's glorious watching my fave vocal analyst react to one of my all time favourites 😊 Amazing

Amazing reaction Bethany! I didn't know what you would say after the first play through. Then you devoured every morsel Corey delivered. Bravo! Those masks are quite gruesome. Wow.
It took a while to get to the scream/growl point but that to me is Corey’s coolest and most unique sound. A lot of screamers in metal don’t differentiate themselves as much as he did. His voice is more textured and forceful without losing control. Maybe thicker is another word to describe that sound but I’ve always thought these screams from him in Slipknot’s first few albums are unreal and I haven’t heard another vocalist that has anything similar to it.
My Teenaged sons turned me on to Slipknot 25 years ago. The band is from Des Moines, Iowa. Very creative band, I would love to see one of their live shows. RIP Joey and Paul.
Rip Joey! Great reaction, their live shows have so much energy. Corey is so good. Strong emotional songs to release stress and fun to sing along with. ❤❤Bethany, keep up the great work.

Have you done "Through the Glass" yet? Talk about all the different sounds Corey has vocally. It's awesome. It's from when he was in the band Stone Sour.
"Duality" has such a personal resonance for me now. I had always loved the song but something made me love it more.... As an adult I got diagnosed with some serious lifelong health problems and had to get an MRI ...I was not looking forward to it. I had seen a lot of doctor dramas, they always made MRI's look like this super anxiety inducing thing where you'll be trapped in a small space, have to hold completely still, and lots of loud annoying noise around you. I was SOO nervous about it. But when I got there, the staff made me comfortable and gave me a choice of music to listen too and I told him the kinds of music I liked and gave me MRI save headphones and put on Spotify. So when I rolled back into this giant metal tube to get this thing done that I was dreading, I heard Corey Taylor whisper into my ears "I push my fingers into my eyes." and it was so relaxing and I just coasted through the whole thing after that.
It's pretty wicked watching you listen to these songs for the first time!! It's kind of awesome, when you're listening, you look like 'Good Girl Gone Bad' but then you pause and it's like "OH! There she is!!" :P I mean that in a very complimentary way!! Music (Good Music) was designed to draw you in!.. Seeing it do its job is wonderful! Keep up the amazing work, you're deadly 🎶
I always heard the vocals in this song as that distant sound being the internal dialogue in his mind. The forward sound you describe being the verbal audible to the rest of the world. The “I push my fingers into” being that middle ground. Between the internal dialogue to the external “my eyes”
Beautiful way that you put your words”it makes me sad because I can hear the anguish” I love hearing how you break down songs. You are able to encapsulate what I feel as I also heard the song for the first time. Sexy, smart and a wonderful insight to the feelings in a song. Xoxoxo respectfully
Dude I love the channel, only new to it but love the reactions. Can I just suggest one thing? Not sure what quality those ear buds are but you should really invest into some high quality open headphones, they will change your whole sound signature on every song you listen to. I have Sennheiser drop 6XX and they freak me out with what you can hear. I'm sure you buy better but all have a high price tag. Love watching vocal coaches listen to metal and you do a sick job. That was a really great reaction with great commentary, its great to see your love for metal grow from what I've seen. Pretty chick with growing love for metal, you have my support. Awesome video.
I saw Slipknot live in Reno, Nevada on the day their debut album went platinum. "Wait and Bleed" live is an entire experience. It was like being thrown into a horror movie.
It was great seeing your reaction to this. I've watched quite a number of your videos, and this is the first I'd seen, where you watched the entire video all the way through w/out stopping. I know, Slipknot is a lot to take all at once. lol I've listened to them for 30 years now, since the earliest iteration of the band, before Corey Taylor had even joined, and while I was a much bigger fan of their older recordings, it's always interesting to see someone's reaction to their first listen to them.
I love the fact that you get into the reaction 22 seconds into the video. No bullshit. It's so refreshing. I think the production is responsible for a lot of the sense of vocal 'duality'. The 'whisper voice' is heavily EQed, sounds like it's had all the very lows and highs cut and put through a compressor so you get a very hollow, crunchy sounding quality like talking on the phone. The effect of various filters on the audio signal is fascinating. Look at what a 'saturator' is :)
One of my favorite videos from them. I still remember watching this in high school and wanting to experience something like this. Over the years I’ve gotten to and there’s nothing like being surrounded by people who love this music like you do. Great reaction! If you haven’t checked out Slaughter to Prevail - Demolisher yet, you should. Would love to see you react to that at some point.
The mask maker for Volumn 3 was an artist that goes by the name Screaming Mad George. A fan approached the band and asked for $10k for them to destroy his house, and that's how we got this video.
If you enjoy reacting to slipknot, I think you'd really love Vemilion Part 1 and 2. Same song but completely different in nature, would make for two great videos
I think you're a fan of metal and you don't even know it. Your movement, your pained face at the right moments, everything. Awesome. And I love how you don't censor. The music keeps its artistry with the lyrics that artists wrote. Beautiful. Thanks yo.
You listened to the whole thing then went through it. I like that for a "Vocal Coach Analysis" video. I'm gonna check out more of your stuff. \m/ rock on
You know what that's what I love about metal music because there's so much going on you can listen to it over and over again and then pick out little details that she missed the first few times either in the vocals or in the instrumentals or some things that they're doing with the mix there's a lot of replayability
For me, this is the first seen her so deep in the song that she never paused the video. Is her head moving slightly and body telling her she is getting charmed by the song. She was hypnotized
The first thing u said about lyrics , thats what makes corey taylor a true genius. Writing such incredible stuff takes a lot a lot of work, and with such naked honesty.

I love her reactions and how she catches the detailes. Pure delight. The song is a masterpiece, btw. One of the sickest metal tunes ever made
definitely one of the more iconic metal songs of that era (if not of all time)
Best concert I've ever seen. The stage show is like nothing you can describe accurately lol
Agree! Saw them at download festival and during ‘if rain is what you want’ it started raining and I genuinely have never felt more of a connection to music. I just looked up like ‘this might be the best I’ll feel for a long time’. Was going through a rough time and man, it was so powerful
Seeing Slipknot in concert is a great experience, too. They don't disappoint
Vol 3 was my first album and I love every song on it. 20 years later I still l play it when I need to let out some anger.
You can't see California with out
I liked that you watched the whole video start to finish for your raw reaction, and then you went back and dissected it.
I want to know the other song that gives you that feeling
I've always been amazed by how beautiful his voice is. I especially love it in Wait and Bleed.
Your enthusiastic smile makes me smile enthusiastically.
The Wonder and appreciation in your eyes refreshes my own senses in regard to the music.
Your commentary gives insight and depth into something that I already know so well.
Having an addictive personality is not always a bad thing because I became addicted to your stuff. ROCK ON VOCALYST 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Absolutely, Happy is a must. One of my fav
Or Not Falling😈👍
Happy is fantastic. good suggestion
That's why in the parts where he's kinda talk-singing, he's sounding like he's got his hand on his own head to alleviate pressure and the line "I push my fingers into my eyes" also has the same relief-effect.
well... they weren't _reaaally_ supposed to destroy the house, but got carried away. lol
(insurance made it all good though in the end)
I hope he discovered acupressure points for the migraines like I did
There are actually two, one on the eyebrow and one under the eye at the underside of the skull, that could be pushed instead
So if anyone reading this suffers from headaches that make you wanna push your fingers into your eyes check it out
@@SpaceMissile yeah a lawsuit actually happened, certain parts of the house that needed to be renovated was allowed to be destroyed but they ended up destroying parts that weren't supposed to be touched. Roadrunner covered the damages which was around 75k
@@giovanni3317 worth it. The video is _legendary,_ and I am 100% certain they profited off it.
WAIT AND BLEED next!
IKR?
Yessssss
Perfect choice!
I have no idea what it is but just watching your facial expressions and you bobbing and feeling the music is so entertaining. Also really like how open you are to all different types of genres. So many people want to just shun away any type of metal music saying it's "just noise"
lol! I LOVE how you can SEE her trepidation and then the moment when she GETS it! Y'all, this lady is great. I could watch her do this all day.
Bethany! I loved watching your facial expressions as you watched this video as the song played along.. your head just swaying back and forth.. was great
You earned a sub, you completely observed all the right things, and spoke about what i felt when i first heard this song
Great video
Pretty sure she has listened to the song before.
The only vocal coach channel i watch. To the point reactions and great breakdown.
i love any reaction video but i like how you actually fully listen to the song first with no pauses and then analyze it
It's probably been mentioned, but if your looking for Corey Taylor's more vocal selections.... "Through Glass" is something I would love to see this type of reaction to
Unfortunately, that's just all soft fry and breath control. One of his easiest vocals
For that & your excellent content, I thank you very much 🙂
Your analysis helps the listener to appreciate the music that much more. I've been a Slipknot fan since the 90s, I was a kid. Thank you for this
I love this format - almost nobody else has the basic respect to play a song through all the way before giving their reaction. When I was doing music at school, every time we analysed a piece, we always did this. The full track in its entirety, *then* and only then, back to the start & start the critique.
Love how you explain things. I get excited about it as well. Corey's voice and how he uses it is just amazing ✨️
I remember downloading the Video back in the day with one kind of proto ipod and watching it on my way to school
I've completely absorbed it in its entirety to a point I feel like I was part of it
I also make sure to wish blessings upon the people from the vid
It's so raw and honest and energetic and never gets old
So it's glorious watching my fave vocal analyst react to one of my all time favourites 😊
Amazing
the way you describe every detail of the song, it's so cool.... you're amazing 👏 👏👏🫶🫶
Being someone who judges a book by it's cover (who doesn't unless you are blind) I've seen there pictures wondering "What's with the clowns(??) but gotta say WOW HOLY FREAKING SMOKES ‼️ These gentlemen know there craft! A lot of precision in the choices they've made in what to PUNCH and not! Seen comments for EYELESS and VERMILION!!?? Cool!! New stuff for Me Too!! Thanks Bethany and Fans there OF!! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
If you liked this one I'd check out Before I forget, it's off the same album.
The whole point of a cover is to be judged
@@SotonSam If the cover is "Judged" with a thumbs up then you are 100% correct BUT if "Judged" with a thumbs down then you have to be 100% wrong. The best BAD outcome to hope for is a Maybe? Perhaps the "DRAW" would be a Peeked Interest!!?? Also a cover is for Protection 😉☮️
Your expreesions=priceless 🤘🤣 one of the greatest reactions 👏
This is how it’s done… watch it through and then go back and do the start pause, thoughts. I’ve been waiting for this. Thank you
Amazing reaction Bethany!
The birth of a fan. was fun watching the slow transformation.
i love how you were just mesmerized for three minutes straight. this is the correct reaction to this song and its accompanying music video, imo.
Rip Joey! Great reaction, their live shows have so much energy. Corey is so good. Strong emotional songs to release stress and fun to sing along with. ❤❤Bethany, keep up the great work.
I’ve had the pleasure of watching only a few of your reactions and I can’t remember you moving around very much. It really brings tears to my eyes and joy to my heart seeing someone react to something I’ve listened to for years. 🤘🏻🔥💥🙏🏻💯 Subbed
Just enjoying when watching your reaction of my favourite songs....you don't fake reaction,,,I can see that you definitely watch first time! No fake, respect sweet girl! 😊❤
Perfect 1st run through i loved that you just let it play. Your eyes and body movement said it all! You got aome metal in you!
Standard Corey Taylor Talent Reaction 😂 usually there's a lot of pausing on this channel but the song made it almost ENTIRELY in one chunck!! Love your reactions, never stop
I just met this channel. I`ve been out clearly.. Amazing from start to end. Awesome reaction, I Love the facial expressions, talks without talking, and then the Analysis.. 11 outta 10 Miss. much respect.Brand new sub Lady
Bethany was mesmerized first watch, then the analysis was spot on.
It's pretty wicked watching you listen to these songs for the first time!!
It's kind of awesome, when you're listening, you look like 'Good Girl Gone Bad' but then you pause and it's like "OH! There she is!!" :P
I mean that in a very complimentary way!!
Visceral reaction is what i needed today.
\m/ rock on
Seeing someone feel for the first time what all us Slipknot fans feel is so fucking cool! 🤘🏻
❤ I loved this. You're pure enjoyment of this song made me smile.
Subscribed 😊
You know what that's what I love about metal music because there's so much going on you can listen to it over and over again and then pick out little details that she missed the first few times either in the vocals or in the instrumentals or some things that they're doing with the mix there's a lot of replayability
Damn!
You're facial expressions watching and listening to this told an amazing story. Absolutely awesome reaction to an absolutely awesome song.
Bethany says " O Kay" , then youtube cut to an advert for a chocolate easter bunny.....laughed soooo hard I had a coughing fit......excellent 😈👍
Really interesting to hear an educated breakdown. I just know it still gets me going like it did like 20ish years ago. Whole album bangs.
Absolutely love that you dont chop the song up the first time! That's how you do a reaction! Well done.
This video reminds me of the couple Slipknot shows I've been to. Man, the live energy is incredible!
I fckig love that baseball bat on beer keg sound. It's the most badass cowbell ever recorded. So sick.
Yes! That's why I love their song Killpop so much!
Their album Iowa is perfection personified.
she went on a literal trip, she was looking outside and inside and didnt even noticed, welcome to slipknot
For me, this is the first seen her so deep in the song that she never paused the video. Is her head moving slightly and body telling her she is getting charmed by the song. She was hypnotized
Really like the full playtrhough, and then analysis going back on the video
The first thing u said about lyrics , thats what makes corey taylor a true genius. Writing such incredible stuff takes a lot a lot of work, and with such naked honesty.
It’s almost like he doesnt even have to take breaths in certain parts so the note flows MMMMMM❤️🔥
love this music video cause they got a bunch of actual fans to come and just smash stuff up. its great
This is amazing!!! Love this song!
It's such a human song; especially the main lyric. I think that's why so many people connect over this kind of music. It's wonderful to see so many people from different genres coming together.
Well done Internet!
Ignore the haters.
We love you x
3:58 (Gasp) "Oke". Don't know why, had me laughing.
I loved your reaction and the way you watched and explained your video.
i love this woman, she say the words that i mean. She really feel the music, she really feel the beautiful corey´s voice. Nice video
How freaking incredible when she said: except snuff i have never listened to slipknot... dude... a new achievement unlocked on a human soul.. head is banging kindly lol
