  • This was my first time hearing Five Finger Death Punch, and the music video for "Wrong Side of Heaven" carries an important message. I decided to use an audio-only clip for the actual vocal analysis, but I hope you'll take a few minutes to watch the powerful music video that was filmed for this song.

That’s all too common of a story! I, too, had a friend who was a veteran and he also hid his pain from us. I wish he had spoken up. So many hide their hurt until it destroys them.

“Wrong side of heaven, and the righteous side of hell.” This is a common sentiment amongst people that have had to kill in the line of duty, or have experienced horrible things while in the line of duty. You know (or maybe hope) that you are not worthy of going to hell, that you’re not an awful person, but you also recognize (or feel) that you don’t deserve heaven.
I loved this reaction. Thank you and much love. ❤

I had a co-worker in early 2000's that just came back from Afghanistan, he had a college education and was stuck in a warehouse picking orders with me after risking his life for our freedom. He was honorably discharged due to injuries sustained by a roadside IED, shrapnel had torn up his right leg. He told me that this was the best job he could get after his 3yrs of service. ABSOLUTELY MIND BLOWING. This video had me in tears in minutes remembering his story, and he had tried to end his life a couple of times, half-heartedly. I really think that it was just a cry for help because his own family WASN'T helping him. It's an absolute travesty that the people who are willing to give their lives for our taken for granted freedoms are treated this way once they come back home. It disgusts me to no end. SHOW THESE HEROS SOME PROPER RESPECT FOR THEIR SACRIFICE!!!! (Edited part) Sorry, I forgot to mention that this brave soldier came from Mississauga, Ontario, CANADA, EHHH!!!!

I served 4 years in the Army and a Desert Storm combat veteran. I left the Army soon after Desert Storm was over. I was in good spirts at first or at least I thought I was. The nightmares started and the guilt set for what I did while in the Middle East. One day I had enough and tried to end my life. One of my friends called an ambulance and I was rushed to the hospital. After that I had many years of misery and heartache. I couldn't hold a job. I am divorced twice.......I was a total wreck. It wasn't until 2017 when I was looking for another job I talked to a Veteran representative at a Career link office. He asked me if I ever considered working at the VA. I never even thought that was an option. The VA did hire me as a member of the janitorial staff. I did that for about a year and now I am a team lead working on the dock receiving in medical supplies. I absolutely love working at the VA. It makes me feel like I am still serving my Country. I get to interact with fellow Vets everyday. I've been there for a little over 7 years now. I've been seeing a therapist there as well. I am feeling the best i felt in a long time. I've been dating a woman for over 4 years now. I am finally getting my benefits from the VA. I am 90% disabled. I guess the moral of my life story is that there is hope for the Veterans that come home from war. I'm not saying I don't have bad days because I do. The only difference is now I have a lot of people in my corner now when those bad days happens. Go to the VA and ask for help. Help is there. Asking for help does not make you weak. Asking for help makes you strong.

Thanks for serving. And many of us I'm sure are so glad you got the help needed.
I have had several friends who served in the second Gulf war who have taken their own lives. Their outer appearance and manners never suggested the internal battle they fought, and sadly succumbed too
Please , please get help if you believe that escape is the only way out...
I would rather sit and listen, and cry with you than to cry at your end.
I have always wished that my friends had taken the time to talk to me or anyone else about what was happening to them mentally.
RIP to all our veterans who have served and paid the ultimate price either abroad or after rotating home.
I only pray they found the peace they longed for in death that they couldn't find in life😢

It sickens me; not only are we often lied too , to get into wars, they do the same to our veterans and on top of all that just let them sleep on the street and so much worse...

Bethany, thank you for reacting to this song. Too often, it often feels like nobody cares or gives a damn about the struggles of a veteran.
I've personally saved the life of my own brother, a US Marine, who lost his best friend to a sniper's bullet in Afghanistan that was meant for him. Thankfully, I was able to get there in time. For many, however, this isn't the case, and many vets lose their internal, one-man war.
I only can hope beyond hope that one day, we can #Endthe22 and #EndThe5000, so that every veteran who serves gets the help they need and deserve. Thank you for your heartfelt reaction. Like FFDP, you show your humanity by even attempting to understand the plights and struggles of those who serve. And for that, it sets you above most other people who couldn't care less.
Again, thank you. Thank you for your support.

As a veteran myself and proud dad of two sons, one will get his commission as a 2nd Lt in the Army this May. His goal is to become a tank squadron commander. My oldest son served in the Marine Corp. His unit helped escort forensic pathologists to Vietnam looking for and bringing home remains of MIA personel. My only gripe with the band is that they are one of those bands (like Nickleback) where all of their songs sound pretty similar. Most likely because of how distinct the vocals sound, but also because they tend to do the same thing instrumentally every time. Nothing wrong with that, but it does make it hard to listen for any extended period of time.

A basically irrelevant band that saved their careers by profiting off veterans. The song is still written just to get chicks. Making sure play to the liberal panty tossers by referring to God as a her. If I thought anything they did was genuine I could care, but they are definitely shitty people.

I truly appreciate you taking the time for showing this video. I too am an Army Veteran. The depression we feel at times. All of what we need to work through is not easy. It would be nice if hiring managers and companies could truly try and understand a veteran. Especially one that has been in war, shot at, and survived. It is a very painful memory that does not just go away.

I've only watched maybe 10 or so of your videos and this is the first time I've seen you watch a video all the way through without commentary. I've heard this song so many times, but this was the first time seeing the music video. I had no idea this was the message they were going for. Having lost a close friend last year and having worked with veterans at my job, this really hits close for myself.
I don't think I'll ever be able to listen to this song the same way ever again now.

If you really wanna hear what his singing voice can do, they have a song called Bad Company. Its basically a must listen. If you really wanna hear what the band typically sounds like and the extent of his real metal vocals, they have a song called 100 Ways to Hate. The contrast of these 2 songs is ridiculous.

Thank you for reacting to this video. As a combat Veteran everytime I watch this video and someone’s reaction to it I tear up. It hits hard of the reality that some of us deal with. I have PTSD from the Gulf War and a second dose of it when my youngest daughter who was born while I was in Saudi Arabia during a sandstorm on Thanksgiving Day got a Red Cross message that she was born. 23 years later she was married, turned 23 and graduated from USM. She had her whole life in front of her and was tragically killed in a headon car collision. It’s been ten years since that accident, I cried for 2 1/2 years everyday. My faith is the only thing that keeps me alive even though I don’t care to be in this world any longer.
Anyway thank you for reacting to this wonderful song!🙏🏼🌹💕😢

They get alot of crap from the metal community. I listen to most genres so maybe I'm not a "hardcore" metal fan... I am by the way. But I like them. Maybe I am bias because I am a veteran but me being veteran a I see that they do alot for the military community by going overseas and chilling with our troops. They bring awareness to as many people as possible about the struggles that we go through. I've had five battle buddies take their own lives. I've almost been one of them. My daughter is my therapy Anyone who tries to bring awreness are good in my book and will get no flak from me. Great reaction. Thank you!! And my brothers and sisters in arms, I love you!

They do a lot of war sins, suicide awareness, anti bulling, etc. They are a great band, excellent musicians and Ivan is a great vocalist. Watch Gone Away, Coming Down, Tragic Truth, Wash it all Away. As an old Divorced fourth generation vet, with TBI and PTSD ( with all that comes with it), who was homeless for about 3 years and now existing under a VA program for homeless vets, that spends most of my time alone, fighting the battle within or trying to avoid by watching reactions and listening to music. So, yeah this song hits about as close as it can get I guess. Wisdom has taught me that you can get so focused on the war within, you can lose everything that is outside of it. When that has happened, you find yourself asking, what is left to win. Yet God has me regardless and there are so many in worse shape than me. I have no plans or stomach for surrender up to now. Salute to my brother and sister veterans. May you be feeling peace with the battle within and honor in the Oath that never dies.

I’ve just finished 22 years and I can understand how we can find ourselves under a bridge even with retired income. The work of 22 years just to take an L is unimaginable. Yeah, there are victories helping one another in moments of need and they are remembered. Cherished. Still, my opinion is we as a force weren’t used used to fight the good fight and finish it quick. We never got our heart in building nations like we did in WWII. We could have but it didn’t happen. So many lives lost on both sides just to return to zero. It’s haunting to my soul.

If you'd like to see this band on stage in a video, you'd enjoy "Wash It All Away".
If you want a darker, grittier side of the band, you'd enjoy "The Bleeding".
If you want to have your heart strings pulled, you'd enjoy "Remember Everything".
If you want to watch another veteran-inspired video that will make you cry, you'd enjoy "Gone Away".
This band is epic and I have a lot of respect for their sincerity. Ivan Moody's voice stands out in a way that seems relatable.
