@@modocchic They had it the worst. It was so sad that the general public took their disapproval toward the war out on the soldiers that were just serving their country. After all the shit they went through in war just to come home and be treated like shit and struggle more then the average person was just not right. That generation should be ashamed for how they treated those veterans. Veterans have it a lot better now but still not as they should.

I am an Air Force Viet Nam veteran and when I came back to the states all people would say to me was "baby killer" and "crispy kid killer" while all I did was service their airborne navigation systems. I've lost a cousin and one of my best friends to injuries inflicted during the war. My buddy was hit by an RPG 7 that detonated on his 240 B, my cousin was poisoned by mustard gas during the hunt for saddam - his squad cleared a bunker full of barrels of leaking mustard without realizing what the liquid was. War looks like it's thousands of miles away when we see it on the TV - but it never is for those who survived it. May those who died rest in peace, may those who survived find peace.

That is the problem though isn't it. The ones that survive it are the walking dead. VERY few are okay. VERY few. Our military is not being taken care of anymore, at all. They are all over worked and burning out. The ones who survive the mess, they need to be taken care of mentally before they walk back into their front doors. They are not, they are not at all. It is truly disgusting. They fight to keep the world free, we the people free and literally get shit on when they come home. They deserve much better. May they all rest in peace.

This is where heavy metal tends to be. Harder forms of rock started out more with people expressing their anger at terrible circumstances and stuff happening. The majority of heavy metal discusses some very deep and difficult to talk about topics, it can be easy to assume otherwise but metal music tends to have some of the most inspiring messages behind them if one can focus more on the lyrics.

As a veteran I’ve been homeless a few times, especially since being divorced…I get lost and don’t know what to do, I make do as long as I can, the “housing” the VA offers for veterans that are homeless are usually in a bad area where veterans tend to fall hard into drugs/alcoholism and I refuse to give into that. Luckily I’ve made a good friend where I’m at who’s letting me stay with him so I can still see my kids and get back in my feet….but even then, it’s not forever as he has his own family to worry about.

Anyone who serves during wartime should be provided for when they come home. And not just things they can get if they ask, it should just automatically be given to them, because to many don't ask for the help because society says that to do so means you are weak even though that is not true.

I'm so glad you reacted to this video. 5FDP is one of my favorite bands and they are 110% behind our men & woman who have served (Vets) those currently serving active duty, National guard, and our future soldiers. But our Veterans are probably closest to their (as well as our) hearts. Sadly, those who have been in combat and lucky enough to come home, they are still fighting in their minds and it is an unimaginable hell on the inside while they fight to hold it together and put on a smile for OUR (family, friends, etc..) benefit and not so much their own. They don't want us to worry while they are battling intrusive thoughts of the things they saw & had to do to ensure that we all cc an sleep at night knowing that even though they struggle they would jump right back in if today, without hesitation, if asked to do so. I'm the daughter of a military vet and also a mother to a soldier. The statistics in this video are a horrible but sad reality for the people we love who we watch leave one person, only to return still our loved ones, but also a total stranger at the same time. It is a grotesque reality of war, but unfortunately, a necessary evil unless we can figure out how to change that aspect, though highly unlikely. But what we CAN do is treat those lucky enough to come back to us so much better than... This. I'm not claiming to have the answers to anything. But I've saw the look they leave with, and the torment they come home with and even come home to. We ask them to go defend our rights & freedoms in a moments notice and to risk their lives, sanity, and friends lives that they all come home feeling responsible for the loss of any & ALL of the fallen. But we can't turn around and lend a helping hand to them (sometimes something as simple as a phone call) when they need us?! It's a terrible horrific reality but I feel like every single person should be made aware of the result of their sacrifices that WE asked of them after the parties & parades are over and there is so many who don't even come home to a hug or a handshake.
I'm sorry it always gets me emotional when I talk about these issues. But if everyone would just not forget about them in times of peace & after they get home. Don't forget about them. Sometimes it means literally life & death for them just to get a phone call out of the clear blue, and not just on Nov 11th (Veterans day) or July 4th. They need to be in our thoughts and prayers all the time and we need to put forth the effort to help with anything and everything they need.

I wish America would take better care of our vets. But we aren't sitting on our hands. Cities are addressing the issue in areas around the States. I'm a veteran who struggles every day with PTSD. The department of defense released a very sad statistic in 2018 at 851 American soldiers ended their own lives because of these and we have 22 veterans a day ending their lives as of today and the government does nothing to help us. I appreciate your comments on the video and I think the band for putting it out there to show the world what soldiers go through after they come home from WAR.

I served 2 deployments in Iraq and have had to deal with an ied hitting the trick in front of me, a mortar attack where one mortar landed roughly 50m from us, and a day when 5 vbieds went off one close enough for us to feel the concussion of the blast. To this day I cower in fear on new years and 4th of July. And severe thunderstorms are something I struggle with mentally. Half the time I feel like a burden to my loved ones, and the other half I feel like I'm worthless. I have gone through hell and back and most of the time I feel alone, even when surrounded by loved ones. Thank y'all for racing to this video, I feel the video is more important than the song itself. The struggle is real, and Neverending.

A good friend of mine was a tanker in the Army. He was part of the initial invading force in Iraq in 2003. While there, his tank was hit by an RPG. To this day he struggles with alcohol, PTSD, and the shrapnel still stuck in his body. He's not one of the soulless politicians who ordered the invasion; he was just a grunt on the ground. I've got a lot of respect for those who serve which makes it so frustrating to see vets not getting care and our government all too willing to put troops in harm's way for all the wrong reasons.

I am a veteran of the US Navy, I served from 2001 - 2009 and I took part in operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. Things are very hard for all of us when we transition from military life to civilian life. It used to be that having s DD-214 would almost guarantee you a job but now a days, it just isn't enough. It doesn't help that the amount of marriages that fail keeps rising every year. Many times, including now, I have found myself very close to homelessness. Everything keeps rising except our incomes and there just doesn't seem to be any light at the end of our tunnels. I do have my family... been married for over 20 years and we have 3 teen boys... but she rarely works and when she does, it's just a seasonal job for Christmas and then she's done she also has a disability which prevents her from doing more and my boys are still in school, that's where I want their focus to be... however, financially, they are like 4 anchors, that I love more than anything, tied to my feet and I am in quicksand with no branches to grab. It's tough.

A big thank you to you guys for your respectful and heartfelt reaction, far too many videos have people just talking over most of the video. I don’t know if you caught it, but the guy in the suit at the end is the guy who shot near the Humvee in the beginning and what he says to the bearded guy is “You saved my life brother.”
Another video worth a watch and reaction to is Sydney Watson’s version of “I Was Only 19.” The Aussies, Kiwis, and Brits were some of the most professional and well-trained foreign forces I had the pleasure of working alongside.

Jersey here, haven't messaged in a while. Got a forest fire that's burned roughly 13,000 acres less than 20 miles away. So keeping n eye on that. And just got out of the hospital from a week stay. Normal crap. For those of us that are disabled. That video hits extremely hard. Cause here's the thing people don't understand. They'll see that video. And ya know those feelings that u felt watching and reading. U turn it off and 20 minutes later, go back to life. Nothing wrong with that. At all. But for us. Thise feelings r a part of every second of everyday. I have the hardest time even looking at myself anymore. The reflection is someone I don't recognize. Ya sit here every day. Thinking of the things ya used to do. And look at what ya can do now. I'm also 1 of those people that if ya say thank you for your service, I used to get weirded out. Like how do ya reply to that. Lol talked to a fww older vets and they said simple. Aay Thank you for your support. It's extremely sad and painful to watch and hear any fellow veteran. The hardest is when they took their life and u served with them. They where in every sence of the words our brothers and sisters. And they do and u know why. Cause they have the same shit u do. Makes it that much harder. Everyone says it's gatta change, but it never Does. Make us security at schools. No child would ever get shot again. Unless they r doing the shooting. And it would make the veteran feel useful again. Plus we are already trained.

I would hire any veteran in my store before anyone else. Ever. College students, nah, little googoo babies still. Our veterans are trained, disciplined and far from stupid. Only stupid people don't hire vets. I believe it should be a federal law to hire our veterans and give them a shot before anyone else, for ANY position they want. You earned that and then some. If it doesn't work out, that is okay. They got a shot at it. They will go and get a shot at another job. They deserve NOTHING less. Making our combat veterans school security is an amazing idea. Absolutely amazing. I will be contacting my legislature office and start some shit up. I can't change the world, none of us can. We must all start right where we live, our own towns. Time to get my skirt up in a frenzy.
