yes, when the pcv valve is closed, under low vacuum the throttle body will draw air back through that little hose on the air cleaner as that side will be under a vacuum instead of the manifold.
I had my oil changed a few weeks ago. The tech guy just dumped the oil into the engine. I learned the hard way that if you fill the oil into the engine too quickly it will drain through the line and into the air filter system, creating a big mess and a lot of clean up.
@Scotty secretly loves Chryslers I had never seen or heard of it either, after I had my oil changed I actually thought the service tech spilled oil in my engine bay and didn't clean it up (there was so much, it was dripping out under the car). It wasn't until I pulled my CAI off and found it soaked in oil that I was able to track down where all the oil came from, which was the crankcase ventilation hose. I'm guessing the tech was filling the crankcase so quickly that the oil level was staying high enough to drain into the hose. This was my 2017 T/A 5.7, which came with the factory CAI.
@Scotty secretly loves Chryslers its odd but its actually super common with this style breather on the 392's. Idky either but i have yet to meet someone with this install who has not run into this issue lol. not a deal breaker but you gotta warn people to take it slow if you arent the one doing the oil and whatnot
@Scotty secretly loves Chryslers Not your buddy, idk whats the tone about but its cool. Go on fourms or videos about 392's with breathers and youll see this is a common issue. You can litterally pour by hand and this can happen. You're commenting under a person who's sharing their experince about it & theres another guy down below who asked about the same issue. If you really don't think it can happen just take a quart of oil, unhook the line and pour oil by hand, you'll see.

@@Reality2016 That is weird to do that consistently each time honestly. Thanks for the great videos! I have a 2020 Charger Scat Pack Widebody and is there a certain size oil breather for the 6.4L 392? I'm looking to get a green one.
The one I use in this video is a 3/4" metal opening. Just get one in that size and it'll fit in the hose just the same. I've also seen other people get a rubber base breather that has a 1" diameter and fit it over the hose, instead of inside, but I'm not a fan of that method.
I have a 2010 RT Chall with the 5.7 and it looks mostly the same. After I took the air filter out to inspect, there's quite a bit of oil underneath where it sits. With those K & N filters, is that from normal maintenance for a filter of that type or am I more likely getting some oil coming in there from the engine? Maybe this is a good reason to change it like you did??
There shouldn't be any oil from the filter unless someone went crazy oiling it up. The K&N's normally use a reddish oil so you should be able to see a color. If it's more the color of regular oil then it could be one of 2 things. One would be a lot of oil coming through the pcv side, although that's being recirculated back in at the intake manifold so unlikely it would go the opposite way back to the filter box. A catch can helps with that side. More likely would be it's coming from this same hose I put the breather on. It's possible some is coming up through there. I've had that happen on an older engine before that I installed a breather on. One day I noticed the breather material was soaked in oil, only ever happened once though. I replaced that breather and never had that happen again. Or It may have happened during the previous oil change. I had one person tell me the tech poured the oil in so fast that some came out through that hose since it's right under the fill opening and went into his airbox.
I have that same setup on my 6.4 but oil seems to leaking from crankcase breather. Oil inside the filter and area below it is wet from oil. Is there something wrong with my engine I’m not aware of or this normal or there a simple fix to it?
I've heard of that happening before, except the person it happened to told me it was when he took his car in to the shop for an oil change and the tech basically dumped the oil in too fast. So I guess the first question is whether it's happening regularly or if maybe it was a one-time incident? It's now been over 3 years since I did this install and I don't have any evidence of leaks at all.
Is it just when you're filling it or other times? I've heard of it happening when filling too fast and the oil backs up through the filler tube. If it's happening other times I'd get that checked out. My first guess would be there's something wrong with the pcv system.
@@Scavenger1320 Could that oil be coming from the crankcase because I saw a couple of videos where an oil catch can (different makes and models of cars - especially catch cans with aggressive filter media inside) can create more pressure in the crankcase (if the oil catch can restricts the air flow that it's supposed to allow through and as the pressure increases, it pushes oil out the other way, from the crank case and up it goes). This was my concern with my newly installed catch can on my SP WB Challenger. Supposedly the HEMI does a better job than the ZL1 motors (it's a GM motor, I don't remember the exact term) in terms of relieving pressure from the crank case. Hopefully, my 392 does and the catch can doesn't create more pressure.
@@voltron_5 that could be a possibility, it definitely makes sense, although I haven't really heard of catch cans causing issues on these Hemi's. I would guess that if something like that were happening, the catch can probably wouldn't be getting filled either.
@@Scavenger1320 I think on the Hemis it's not an issue as they supposedly have a better way of venting/relieving pressure from the crankcase vs the Camaros, example. But I did see videos (on a couple of cars; older cars of different make) where after installing the catch can, the oil spurts out of the other side (can't remember what that area of the system/engine is called. I'll try to find the link). But his catch can had a very restrictive filter.

Can't say I've ever noticed any kind of a smell coming from an oil breather. I could see there maybe being a slight oil smell since it's entire job is to vent the crankcase.
@Scavenger1320 yes that's what I meant, just wanted to make sure that's normal. I have the oil catch can and it works flawlessly. Do you recommend to add the oil cap valve breather or this one is just enough? Thanks

If there's a similar hose going from the air intake to the oil filler tube then I don't see why not. I'm checking out pics online right now of the 5.7 in a Charger and I see that hose so yeah, you could do it.
@@flowmagic5 there's different ones. Look up oil breather. Valve cover breather is basically the same thing but would go into the actual valve cover which is more like on older engines.
