    5:43 - 2nd best instructional video you've every done! What I realized over time was, just when you think you can't rotate the hips further with pelvis pointing down, you find out, Oh yes you can! And after carefully analyzing my swing, I realized there is such a thing of, holding the upper torso rotation back for TOO long, which inhibits the hips from rotating to their maximum. All of this allowed me to pull the lead shoulder back behind me even further, thus pulling the club handle even more in front of the ball at impact. Staying pelvis down longer, means coordinating upper torso rotation at the right time, so the hip rotation isn't held back. So we fire the hip rotation, the upper torso follows, but THEN you have to ACTIVELY and PURPOSEFULLY rotate the upper torso even more (faster) at the right time, which gives the hips more freedom to continue their rotation. That won't just happen all on it's own, I had to practice it and THEN I could "cover" the ball with my chest and clubface longer, past point of impact. I also noticed keeping my lead knee flexed aided in better rotation, rather than a straight leg which tended to inhibit hip rotation just little.

    A really useful way to think about this is: in/after transition, you want the hips to be rotated open, facing down - the key is to rotate using the deep trail hip as the fulcrum. I.e., for right handers, do not allow the right hip to come forward at all as you rotate the pelvis open, facing down. Instead, rotate using the deep right hip as the fulcrum. It will really push you down and open up loads of space.

    I enjoy your videos. Have you considered doing a video for those that have lower back problems and may not be able to get into some of these positions. Are there minor adjustments that can be made that doesn’t stress the lower back. My brain says “ don’t do that” . Thanks Russell.

    I've been working on the same move and my left heel (getting my weight on it) helps me resist the early extension problem.

    I have been using this hip movement for the last couple of weeks with much better contact. However, it’s not working as well with the driver because it does feel steeper. Is the driver move any different? Thanks for the quick tips. I like the length and content of your videos.

    • @taffyddu
      @taffyddu 2 года назад +1

      I'm no expert but could it be the shaft length of the driver ? It has a shallower plane than the irons which are shorter. C'mon Russell - expert advice required.

    • @ITCDennis
      @ITCDennis 2 года назад +1

      Like Hogtaffy, I'm no expert. The driver having a longer shaft and the face having less loft I don't think it lends itself as well to a move that creates compression as with irons. You probably could implement this move with the driver, but because you want to hit slightly up at impact you may have to move it further forward in your stance than you're accustomed to. That's my best guess. Good luck, I'm on the learning curve right there with you!

    That kind of lower body movement works great for irons, how about driver? Should stand more up right and extended after impact for driver? Cheers.

    Hi Russell, great demonstration. All this makes sense. I myself have slight gap to the chair in backswing and downswing. I guess I have to keep my knee flex more and rotate more on this with staying more down.

    Just a few quick swings in the net and the feeling of space this move/swing thought provides is actually really quite surprising!
    Swing is looking good Russell (not that it ever didn’t) you seem to have a little bit more of a squat move or level change that previous videos.

    Great stuff Russell - wondering if you can tell me what type of surface you have your hitting mat on (assuming concrete at the very base but anything on top of that?) I'm building a sim and would like a clean look hitting area like this but wondering what I'll need underneath.

    Hey Russ, love all your vids. Quick question though.. i was under the impression that the strongest position to be during impact is ankle, knee and lead hip stacked on top of each other? Or is this still the case but its more of a feeling?

    Really great video as always. Can I ask you to please show how this change relates to pressure changes (swing catalyst, etc.) ? I’m working with my coach to get more on my lead side… seems like this move might limit lead side pressure shift?… but as always, need to see the measurements… “seems like” is not a real thing :-)

    A piece of friendly advice. It takes you 4 minutes to get to the point. For good or bad, most viewers today want to see the money shot as quickly as possible. In this case, you don't deliver on the video title until around the 4:10 mark. My suggestion is move the first 4 minutes of the video to the end. Meaning no offense, but why do we care what your shot dispersion looks like before we've heard what we came for? We don't. So we're sitting there for 4 minutes wondering, "when is this guy going to tell us what we came for?" If you're like me, you'll skip ahead and find it. But many others will simply bail out and not finish the video at all.
    Just my two cents! You're obviously doing a lot right because you have 119k subscribers which is an amazing achievement on its own. 😀

    Reminds me of your two chairs at 90* where you get your lead hip into the corner. I've tried to kind of "sit into" that corner while centering. Lots of power (for me) & speed, but I tend to get inside of the ball & get the toe or gear effect weaker contact. It also seems abrupt & less controlled.
    Comment?

    This is one of the best videos I’ve ever seen on the swing and improving impact. Subtle nuances are literally and figuratively game changers.It’s exactly what I am working on with my coach. I have rewound and watched several parts of it again and again and will be taking this as part of my daily practice routine.! Thank you.

    I’ve had problems with early hitting for a long time, and therefore consistency. I gave up for 20 years and am having an intense period with my golf cage in the garden and two cameras feeding monitors on the ground in front of me showing me instant slow-mo replay of my swing from behind and front on. Make or break - if I can’t figure it out I won’t be playing again 😀 After trying various things it seems to me that the biggest difference between the typical amateur swing and a pros is the right side bend as the downswing starts - that little hip bump towards the target combines with right side bend to lower the torso to the same sort of position you are showing in the ticked box. The right side bend movement (opposite of the left side bend on the backswing) tucks that right elbow into the side automatically, as opposed to trying to fight/control the move of the elbow. I still haven’t quite got it but have felt the motion best when hitting with just the right hand - with the lowering that happens with the right side bend then you naturally keep the right wrist hinged back in order to get the club handle through to forward of your clearing hips. First time I’ve ever seen forward shaft lean in my swing. Makes me feel like Lee Trevino reborn compared to my normal swing 🤣 A bit like that stone skipping action that some people advise as a drill, but I find a drill trying to hit the ball much better. There’s a good Padraig Harrington video on YT that shows it. Also well demonstrated by the YT videos of 6 years old kids belting out long drives.

    I'm working on feeling that I'm swinging massively over the top because I fire my hips way too fast then everything else gets too much left behind and I get too much right side bend. I feel this to get everything a little more synced up and on plane

    • @edwardsroba
      @edwardsroba 2 года назад

      Don’t know if this will help but here goes. I too have been massively over the top all my life, and no matter what I tried nothing would change it. Then a friend pointed out that my club face was way open at the top of the swing, and no matter what I tried to do to stop the OTT from there, the sub conscious wouldn’t allow me to. The fault was at set up: by squeezing my elbows together, pointing the inside of the elbows out in front of me, and pushing the hands forward a little, the face at the top of the swing was more square, and the OTT completely disappeared.

    • @shakes2966
      @shakes2966 2 года назад +1

      @@edwardsroba I think you misunderstood. I have a OTT FEELING because sometimes when I start the downswing I have too much right side bend(my right shoulder gets closer to my hip). so as a FEELING to stop doing that I FEEL I'm coming OTT

    Love this technique! It looks effortless like Freddie Couples or Louis Oosthuizen.
    I am much more precise and efficient with strike ...especially with the irons off the fairway where I really need to be when I focus on Russell's ideas on how to move.
    With many teachers pushing current info about using the ground and pushing hard off the ground , I end up less precise with strike which is maybe ok with driver where the ball is above the ground on a tee peg but with the irons in the fairway it is not consistent for me. I'm not saying I don't use the ground but i try not to emphasize power with it. I also end up hurting my knees (I have arthritis in both) when i try to focus on pushing hard into the ground. I wonder if pushing hard into ground isn't causing a lot of amateur to stand up because it is not timed or executed right.
