    Your videos have been invaluable to me as a beginner 8 weeks in tonight once a week. consistently hitting 9,8,7 irons 150 yrds today. Struggle with driver but will get there. I'm 31 by the way.

    This video was amazing. I'd been working in lessons on getting my weight forward and struggling. Also my sequencing always feels off, too much arms not enough rotation. I started working this and all of a sudden I could rotate, my sequencing improved, the ball striking just felt good, and it gave my hands more time to square so my face control improved.
    Only problem was I picked up about 10 yards on my irons. I over drove several par 3s today. So now I need to refigure out all my yardages. But that's I problem I don't mind having.

    This is hands down the best weight shift instruction I have seen in almost 40 years of golf. Using this concept, at 64 years old, I hit my driver 240, 8 iron 150. I'm working on coupling this "concept" with some of your other videos on the down swing and iron/pitching. So far your instruction has had a dramatic effect on my game. Thanks for the videos.

    Excellent video. This past summer I read Adam Young’s book The Practice Manual and while it is full of good information, drills, etc. the one thing that stuck with me is how we view our quality of play and scoring.
    He said to take a look at the results of the last professional tournament played and specifically see what players shot over the 4 days of play and look at their lowest score versus their highest score.
    It just so happens at the time Jordan Spieth shot a 62 followed by a 72 and Hideki Matsuyama had a 65 and a 77!
    What I learned is that if a tour player, whose sole occupation is to play golf and dedicates every day to improving can have a 10-12 shot variance from one round to another then my variances, as a recreational player aren’t really that bad lol.
    Of course when your worst round is 1 or 2 over par it doesn’t seem that bad from our perspective as many of us would kill to shoot that score. However it’s comforting to know that a pro can have the same swings in score that I do even though my range just differs from theirs.

    You have hit the nail on the head here Russell, I was doing exactly the same, turning my body slightly before I engage the down swing, I have totally stopped this about a month ago, after seeing the video of Tiger Woods and the drill he hated that butch Harmon would get him to do. In fact I have stopped trying to turn and let my arms drop and then the body naturally follows. With what you have said here it makes total sense. Top man.

    I let the over the top swing path, flippy habit creep back into my swing resulting in some early hip extension. I've actually now got a little bit of hip pain from a round at the weekend because of it.
    My swing is normally hip driven, but I got complacent and started focusing on other aspects of the swing and I ended up swinging more with the arms than the body.
    You've gotta think mainly with the legs and the hips, and get that weight on your left foot early on. You'll also get a lot more power in your shots.

  • @rickstevens9628

    Although a great video and concept on striking the ball, I recently saw a reference to left pelvic tilt which is an attempt to allow the left hip to drop as you move forward, or drift forward and down, and then of course rotation of that left hip up and out of the way and the right side bend rotating towards the ball happening almost simultaneously. Left pelvic tilt is the altering of the downswing path I think for most golfers. Most of these feels are also the "transition" in my mind. Transition is always described as the movement down and over to the left or the compression of the body or loading the left foot or the hesitation in the swing and transition is usually occurring as you're still completing your backswing feeling or the backswing getting longer before starting the downswing. It's such a nebulous area and seems, quite honestly, to be the "secret sauce" in good swings. And, I think it's the timing of that left pelvic tilt with the start of right side bend and rotation which ultimately sets apart a good round with mostly good shots that feel good. I really enjoyed this video because the same concerns and reflections on my swing were seemingly echoed at the beginning of the video...something just didn't seem right today. Thank you for your analysis.

    Thanks Russ. One question about loading in the trail hip at the top of backswing - If that’s important, how do I load while moving in the lead side concurrently? Thanks!

    • @russellheritagegolf
      @russellheritagegolf  2 года назад +1

      With practice (sorry it sounds blunt) start with the load and progress to the linear. This is why I talk on the channel about not associated linear motion soley with weight shift

    Hey Russel I'm a 9hcp. My teacher is saying i've got like 24 degrees (too much) shaft lean and that I am staying to much to my lead side (almost the opposite of what you describe here). It means I get a lot out of the lofted clubs but long clubs often don't get enough height and therefore distance. My teacher has got me to try to get shaft back to more vertical at impact therefore club closer to true loft. When I do this everything goes 20 yards shorter. It means I can now stop the ball on greens but with great loss of distance and I feel like I'm just having to throw my hands back to the set-up position which is contrary to much online instruction. It feels like I can generate more speed but with no power compared to the previous de-lofting and getting into the lead side/using my body. Any guidance you could give me would be much appreciated? Maybe even an idea for a future video?

    • @russellheritagegolf
      @russellheritagegolf  2 года назад +2

      It’s hard to say without seeing! To me it’s unusual too have too much shaft lean. Im assuming you also start with excessive lean? More extension in the hit would get the lead shoulder more up and behind you creating more distance between you and the ground. This could lead to reducing shaft lean without loosing distance. It’s also plausible your working on the correct things sorry I can’t help more

      Very Interesting reading your Comment, Christian.
      A bit ago I read that "Tour Players" typically *Deloft Irons and "Full" Wedges by about 30%.*
      *That is much Less than your 20+ Degrees!*
      "Dynamic Loft" (applied at Impact) vs. "Static Loft" (Manufacturer's Designed Loft).
      I understand this to mean that Forward Shaft Lean Applied diminishes as longer, lower Lofted Clubs are used.
      Try to put aside your "loss of 20 Yards per Club".
      1) You have been "changing" your 7 Iron into a "5 Iron".
      Your "5 Iron" becomes a "1 or 2 Iron".
      2) Irons aren't about "How Far", they are about "How Close".
      3) Tour Players get the Yardages they do because of Swing Speed and NOT because they have any "Magic Irons" in their Bags.
      Tour Players generate Swing Speeds with 7 Irons that are Faster than typical Recreational Players' Driver Swing Speeds.
      Keep applying what your Instructor wants you to do.

    Anytime the outside of your lead hip moves laterally beyond the outside of your lead heel, you limit the potential range of motion of”rotation “ of your pelvis.
    While you do need to weight your lead foot in transition , it is a mistake to move laterally beyond your outside lead heel
