I e Played for over 40 years, low single digit hcp with many lessons from leading teaching pros and this is the clearest and best explanation I’ve ever heard re rotation through the hitting zone. I’m hitting it 30 yards farther off the tee with this info ... fantastic video

I recently started playing again after a 14 year layoff and had a lesson with Russ for the first time and this was fundamentally my problem. The left hip not going back as the first move. I’ve been working on this for that last week and the difference has been staggering. I had no compression at impact and now I am. My 7 iron carry was around 145 and it’s now up to 160 which was more like what distance I hit it before I stopped playing. Very happy :-)

Ur videos have transformed my swing. Pulling the left hip back has been an epiphany. Trail elbow has become unstuck. Swing feels effortless and ball explodes off the face. Practically eliminated fat shots and increased my confidence over the ball. Even started to draw the ball.

This was a fantastic video. You described me perfectly when describing the faults in my swing. I’ll have to really work on getting my left shoulder up and through while maintaining side bend, which in turn gets right shoulder down and through. A teacher told me about 25 years ago to think of starting the downswing with firing the left shoulder through. That was supposed to be my swing thought. It worked……for a while……somewhere I lost that part of my swing( I’m sure bc there were other faults in my swing). I’ll be working on this because of your vid. and the break down of what’s supposed to happen. Thank you very much.

This was a fantastic video addressing the biggest problem of early extension but with all the other pieces you need to do during your swing. I also saw the side bend near the end of the downswing. It is a lot to digest and implement but I think if I take it slow with each part and swing slowly over time my swing will improve. You are one of the best if not the best golf coaches out there. Your tip about using a stretch band for resistance during my back swing has really improved my iron play tremendously.

So with irons you want to turn your lead hip kinda towards the ground with a little forward weight shift then kinda pop up and out , so with driver you wanna shift your weight to the front leg but stay back and rotate your lead hip kinda up , this video was very helpful just looking for an explanation for the difference between the 2 thank you . Cheers .

This actually is a common drill used by PGA teachers, the reason it's common is because it's the best way to work on getting away from early extension which is a really detrimental move in your golf swing. Russel as always explains the moves perfectly and is really easy to follow!! Keep it up! For me the best coach on the tube!! Also thank you 😌

Cannot agree more on the early extension being detrimental. Been trying for years to get rid of it. Russell explains it really well. I believe most weekend golfers do not fully understand the importance of proper lower body movement as it relates to consistent predictable golf shots.

    Hi Rus, enjoying your channel.
What impact does the length of the backswing potentially have on causing early extension? I would imagine that the further the hands need to travel in the downswing, the more needs to be done to sync the swing for optimal rotation and impact. Does the body subconsciously stop rotating, causing the casting, to allow the hands to catch up? If one looks at the pros, the shorter the club, the shorter the backswing.

Left hip back instead of right hip forward has to be the most nuanced movement in all of your videos. This has to be the single most critical piece of information that either was left out or I missed from all the videos you've done on "the move". Unfortunately, it looks like my syntax of hip rotation in "The Move" has been complicating the ability to not be an over the top swinger. Maybe left hip back will help get back on track...

  • @joe59golfer

Just a little confused. Problem #2 resolved by "just picking the club up." Does this promote the holy grail of a 90° degree shoulder turn? That is what everyone seems to go for but it looks far less than that in the video. Is 90° too much then?

This is the early backswing reference not necessarily a full backswing position. It’s the early backswing where problems lie
