Dude, you just saved me from tearing down a fresh bulletproof! I spent quite a bit of cash to get this truck up and going. I bought it for a good price and didn't really know what kind of work had been done to it previously, so I spent the money and just got it back together today. Would not crank, I was pissed! While watching your video I remember pulling out an aftermarket oil filter/cap that said on the cap "DO NOT REUSE" on the side. I put a motorcraft filter in an aftermarket cap! I wasn't closing the drainback valve! After installing my OEM cap withing 30 seconds of cranking, she fired up and has NEVER sound better! Thank you for this video, you are a lifesaver!
Finally after a new turbo and stranded twice on the highway someone puts out the info I really needed. Thank You!
Nice video! This is what we mostly see with aftemarket stuff. It fails prematurely and does almost never fit correctly.Keep up the good videos!
As Makuloco knows, and any knowledgeable 6.0L PowerStroke owners know, you use Motorcraft-Racor oil and fuel filters only in a 6.0L PowerStroke period. They are a "patented" design for exact fitment and flow and durability, that is why the aftermarket cannot copy the design. Racor actually makes the Motorcraft filters for the 6.0L PowerStroke, and you will find the same stamped patent numbers on the end of these two brand oil filters only. The 6.0L is punishing on motor oil like no other engine, with 500-4000+ psi oil pressures in the high pressure system to pressurize the fuel injectors, you want good durable filtration and proper maintenance or it will cost you. Even worse, when one trys to put a factory size oem oil filter back into one of those tall aftermarket caps the oil drain valve stays wide open, then it really gets expensive. Great video Makuloco!,

I own a car in which the dealership had broken the standpipe lattice off the oil filter housing cap and never said anything to the previous owner about it. Having done several oil changes on the car since taking possession of it, I didn't even notice anything was wrong until I chanced across a picture of what it SHOULD look like... Goodness only knows how long it had been like that, but having also torn down the engine for a top-end rebuild, the cylinder wear is insane; it looks like a 400,000 mile engine despite "only" having 175,000. Any oil bypassing the filter is baaad.
Happened to my 01 Ford Explorer car just cut off while driving on the highway and would start. Had to get it towed. So I changed the oil and used a Motorcraft filter and it started right up and ran like new. I was speechless!
great video. I have no doubt that you get bombarded with questions, but I do have one. I have an 06 F350 6.0L that wont idle unless you keep your foot on the pedal. any ideas ? also, it starts hard. when cranking, it wont fire unless I press the pedal. any insight is greatly appreciated.

Ipr icp dummy plugs oil cooler and few more. Then i looked at oil filter it wss broken. Literally broke in half from torque of engine. Learned a lot

Mercedes cars also use cartridge type filters and the same principle applies to mercedes. People always try to go cheap. The mercedes filters are about $15 but worth every penny. They last 10,000 miles and keep a seal. My friend decided to use a fram i think on his e320 which used plastic, unlike mercedes who use a special resin in their filters. When i took the filter out for him, it just fell of the stand tube with no seal. I also have a mercedes and showed him on mine how nice the oem still sealed and i had 9000 miles since my last oil change. I had to really pull on the Oem becuase it sealed.
Had a problem with my IPR getting stuck as well because of dirty oil. I think the guy that had it before me did not change the oil like he was supposed to or he might have put one of them less than adequate filters on them.
When it comes to your 6.0, use nothing but OEM Motorcraft parts!
With the exception of the head gaskets, ARP head studs, Rotella t6 and Archoil.

hello off topic i just changed a hydro booster on a 2008 f350 and now the stop lights stay i dont see no adjustment. on brake switch and replaced it but lights still on..??
Hello. I have verified that I have the correct filter and correct cap. 75k miles all oil changes are proper interval. 2005 6.0 excursion. I have recently had a slightly longer than normal start when sitting and sometimes running errands. Do you have experience with this? The gauge inside shows no oil pressure for a few cranks then starts. I have never had any issues so I do not remember what the oil gauge looked like before this issue. Thank you.
For me its OEM or nothing. I have knocked my head over the years thinking I was saving then having to do the job all over again.

I agree. If you drive a ford, or any brand for that matter, it only makes sense to use the recommended filters and parts. I do have to ask tho, Was mileage a factor in that filter coming apart? i have seen this too but usually the filter had been in the engine for well over the recommended service interval.
FunkDonkey1 I was told this guy doesn't change oil too often but still have not seen a motorcraft come apart like this from too much time in service.
Yah good job on those crappie filters. I only use motorcraft oil, plugs, filters. That includes rotors and shoes too. Made to fit, made to work right.

Hello,my Fuel injector pressure regulator is reading 90 PSI and the voltage is maxed out on my 2005 6.0..according to my son,using the scanguage. Is this a indication that the Regulator can be back?Just bought the truck,changed the oil,had a Nappa filter on it,changed it over to a Motorcraft Filter and cover.Truck drove about maybe 20 miles,then all of a sudden,a hot motor,no start.Shows oil pressure of dash when cranking and only starts with starting fluid,and I replaced the Drainback Valve because it was cracked and a piece missing,1/8 of a in or so.Could this be the Regulator,piece of shit in it from the drainback being cracked,or slug crap.Thank you if you can be of any help.God Bless you my friend,Mark....
Very interesting. I have always thought wix was a premium filter. They were all we stocked back when I was a tech in an independent. we were told by reps that wix and napa gold all came out of the same maker. We never had issues with wix filters and we used them in semi's all the way down to passenger cars. So kinda makes me think of possible installer error. If I own the truck "WIX" would be getting a call. Im only saying this because I have seen turbo's in the old 7.3 s wiped out because of the thin exspanded metal screens on the air filters . I have personally seen puralator pay for 2 customers repair bills. I think it is an awsome what you are doing for others and love your channel. Thanks for sharing.
Ron Hart I would never use wix in anything I have seen more failures than this from wix filters.
FordTechMakuloco I used Wix for 10 years when I owned my shop, never had an issue in gas or Diesel.
Customer is the kind of guy that blows a 6.0 then talks about how shitty they are lol
They only use Motorcraft filters at the Ford dealer because that what they are required to use.

Really interesting discussion. I've been using K&N oil filters on my 2.5L Fusion SE for years. I'm seriously thinking about saving the money and sticking with Motorcraft from now on. Do you think this problem is engine specific since the design of this particular filter is integral to the housing, or could this be a good example of why it's important to stick with OEM filters across the board?
We have seen it with the fuel filters on the 6.0l also, not to mention cartridge style oil filters on some cars aftermarket literally crush in not good. Now this one was a Wix filter which I have never like the quality of from the get go. I am sure the Napa Gold is much better but I would just stick with the Ford filters. Ford is constantly improving upon them because they have the money for the R&D plus they have engine warranty they have to stand behind.

FordTechMakuloco, can low oil cause a stall while driving. I just picked up my 6.0 from the mechanic and after getting towed twice I when to check the oil and dip stick is not picking up anything. Thanks in advance.
@@FordTechMakuloco Just a thought. The 3000 mile oil interval is chosen for severe duty for some engines because that is when the oil filter will be full or clogged and the by pass valve will be constantly engaged? The oil filter does not have a sensor to determine when it is full, so interval mileage must be used determine it replacement?

The stock filter looks like a Mann made filters it say on the filter made in usa I work on Euro cars and they are made the same I agree that an oem filter is the way to go but I dont know of any manufacture that makes there own filters any way in my feild if I put a Hengst,Bosch,Perflux or a Mann filter I know I'm getting the same quality as what you can get from the dealer it is verry important in vehicules with extended oil changes I know for a fact a cheap filter will shrink and collaps compared to a good quality filter if you are not sure of the filter that they are selling you I suggest to go to the dealer and buy what was meant for youre application.
On a powerstroke it's OEM or international or don't use it... and I laugh at all these idiots using Fram filters on any diesel

I have ALWAYS used Motorcraft filters on my 2004 F250 PSD.Doesn't make sense to use any other oil filter as a Motorcraft oil filter is less than $20 at WalMart.

Good morning, my friend I live in Brazil and I bought a f250 2008 6.0 power stroke plus she is missing the diesel injectors. I would like to know if to change the injectors we have to update the injectors module or I can only change and start.
No, you can just replace the injectors and it will be fine

would this also be the cause of oil gushing out of the dipstick tube and blow by? I've never seen so much oil come out like a geyser on anything. The oil had been changed less than 500 miles prior and now it looks black and is extremely thin.
Jesse Finchem all I can think is blow by but the thin oil also makes me think it might be diesel passing the piston rings into the crankcase very common on stock 6.4 due too Regen the crankcase gets oil
is ford not allowing use of CK4 oil I the powerstroke? what makes the Motorcraft oil for 2017 better than ck4?
ck4 is backwards compatible with Ford 2017 and older powerstroke engines calling for cj-4 oils. The licensing is not coming out until December that is why you may not see the API label updated until then.
FordTechMakuloco I see. I ask this because Bill hewett of Powerstroke help on GA brought on his Amsoil specialist saying that Ford will blend their own oil for 2017 6.7 Powerstroke as Ford felt ck4 did not meet their species this incorrect?
How about our friends who Harv legacy Duramax from 2006-7 LBZ do you think the ck4 meets these legacy motors as I understand they have much less phosphorus etc than CI4 oils from 10 -12 yrs ago as Amsoil has the diesel and marine synthetic for legacy engines pre 2007. Thoughts ?
I emailed Tom the guy from bills video. he said that ford says the new ck-4 has less phosphorus in it which causes less protection. so ford will not recommend that spec. so they have developed there own spec which all oil blenders will more than likely incorporate into their system, he said eventually the ck-4 spec will have the spec requirements Ford desires. ford recommends staying with the ci-4+ or cj-4 until the spec is availible.

Dummy plugs
Racor makes the Motorcraft filters. If a person wants to save money on filters, they should buy the Racor branded filter and not the Motorcraft branded filter. If you don't do your own oil & fuel filter changes, you will need to supply them to the shop (if not a dealer), because unless you specifically tell them to use Racor or Motorcraft, they will use what they have on the shelf and most likely it will be an aftermarket with its own cap. Then they will most likely throw your stock cap away. Just beware of this when you are having someone else do the work.
most ford,chevy,Chrysler and Toyota filters are manufactured by WIX. if you request a factory replacement and not their retro fit design you are actually buying the same filter. WIX has actually replaced an engine for me due to a failure. try getting Ford to do that for you. I have this info due to speaking with their claims and manufacturing reps during my issue.
I may be wrong; however, the top of the oil stand pipe in the filter housing appears to still have a small adapter from a cheap Fran filter in it. May not be a part of the issues but it shouldn't be used with either the wix or motorcraft filters. The patent on the motorcraft/racor filter works great for ford but it sure screws the unknowing consumers who are used to getting an adequate filter from multiple sources without having to do an research.
I was going to mention that I saw that adapter in there too I found one on my truck and if you leave it in there and use the original Ford filter the Ford filter will be bypassing the whole time

Could this cause my 6.0 to run and then just randomly die when driving or idling hot or cold. i used that damn wix filter, and been fighting with this lower icp pressure some about a month. truck will run great some times then others it will take long time to start, and then may die after just a few miles of driving.
+TheConeHunter No sounds like you have an ICP problem but I would change the filter first.
+FordTechMakuloco swapped out the oil and fuel filters along with cleaned the egr valve. completely cleared the emc and now I'm going to drive it a bit I'll post another reply once iv seen some results. thanks for all the helpful videos
and if the filter fails and cost you an engine......GOOD LUCK getting Wix, FRAM, NAPA or whatever to pay for your repairs
If that was the case than he would have had issues with low pressure pump already. Unable to build enough oil pressure to feed HPOP
looks like the 10 bucks they saved on a filter just cost them alot more! USE FORD FILTERS AND GOOD FLUIDS! and i do NOT mean napa brand oil...

there are a lot of good aftermarket filters. the reason you don't use aftermarket filters at the dealer is because you're at the dealer.

We own 3 late model Ford vehicles, none are diesels but I always use Motorcraft fluids and filters on them. They are so easy to find and price is the same as any aftermarket stuff why not? I'm one of the few people on earth that seem to change their coolant/antifreeze and driveline fluids (like trans) and I cringe when I see people dumping generic prestone green stuff into a color and type specific vehicle.
