I have 2 more locations for you because I was there probably 11-12 years old at the time. 1. When people are listening to the radio, there was a radio in the middle of a drive way and some kids are on bicycles going in a circle (maybe 2 seconds) was the first or second house on Caraway and Centurion lane. They were going to pay me $50 to barrow my bicycle, but then other kids had their bicycles and was chosen instead. 2. Nora is walking with a bunch of papers in her hands or something like that at night time and walking in the middle of the street (maybe 2-3 seconds). That was filmed on Caraway Lane also, prob about 5-10houses or so from Centurion. My family watched it filmed, we kind of didn't know what the movie was about or who she was like some kind of celebrity at the time. The film crew bought probably 20 pizzas and all kinds of snacks on tables, they let us eat the pizza and we thought it was the coolest thing. I never seen that much food in my life and all the film people were super cool and hospitalable. I remember my mom telling me for one scene there was a dog barking and then they paid them like $100 to keep the dog in the house for a few hours, so you would not hear a dog barking in the background. Great film, very underrated. Thanks for the memories.
This was my high school. I graduated in 89 so it was filmed 3 months after I graduated while I was in boot camp. But my little brother and several of my friends were extras. My brother can be seen on that outdoor stage reading messages on the wall. One close friend even had a couple talking parts. Such a trip to see it Exactly like it looked when I went there (in the movie clips). Way different now. Memories. Crazy the center quad is gone. Thanks for doing this one! I know every location you show here like the back of my hand. And you were correct. They just got a new sign in that little shopping plaza, but that’s where the plaza sign Always was 👍
I’m from rural NorCal and I was about 13 when this movie came out and I remember my goal in life was to get my parents to move to SoCal so I can be an extra or skate SoCal because we all thought everyone was hitting the sick skate spots or being extras in movies at their schools. Jeebus I was a dork.
I was living there when it was filmed. My sister graduated from Saugus High the same year it was filmed. I lived behind the post office where Christians character got his mail. I used to ride my bike where that strip mall is. It used to be a dirt lot. I played basketball at the park in the beginning of this and used to ride my skateboard at Saugus High. I went to summer school there.
As goofy as it sounds, this movie changed my life. I was 12yrs old when it came out. When I seen it I instantly got hooked on the idea of broadcast and two way radio. That lead me to a life of radio and electronic design and repair. It literally took my life down a totally different path then I ever thought it would.
Thank you for this episode!! I was raised in the SFV and had a small part in Pump UP the Volume. I’m the “hey, what’s a cock ring, it sounds cool!” student (Holden Chu). Really enjoy ur video here in Hawaii!! Keep them coming Kurt! --Justin
Justin! I love that line! But he said he was wearing it! This a movie that had probably the biggest effect on me, I was 13 and had my first girlfriend and we both were obsessed. It also introduced me to Leonard Cohen.
Awesome video! This is one of the movies that made me want to be in radio.. and 24 years later, still broadcasting! And yes, not a week goes by where I dont spin "Everybody Knows" by Leonard Coehn. Keep up the fantastic videos!
Man, what timing. I just watched this last night, and had a chat with a friend about the filming locations. He mentioned it was filmed in the Santa Clarita/Saugus area. Cool to see this!
This is definitely one of my favorite movies from my high school years. Technically not an '80s movie since it was released in 1990. It was that in-between period right before grunge hit and hair metal and dance-pop like Paula Abdul was all over the radio. Things were so tame and conventional. It's prescient that Harry says "We definitely need something new. A new voice to come along", and Kurt Cobain and the grunge movement came in a year later. That's when the '90s became the '80s, in my opinion. What a great alternative music soundtrack in this one though. Beastie Boys, Concrete Blonde, Descendents (this movie made me a fan), Rollins Band, and Soundgarden, among others.
Great Research man! I love this movie. Seen it in the theater when it first came out and still have my movie ticket. I didn’t know it was filmed in Saugus, I use to go to the Saugus Swapmeet there as a kid and around the time this was filmed. You Rock 🤘🏼
I love all the hard work that you do for us subscribers. I'm a Christian Slater fan as well. Also I would love to see you do a video on MacGyver 80's filming locations. Great work 80's life
Thank you so much from Australia for doing this video!! This movie has remained my absolute favourite movie of all time and I've watched it dozens of times, especially as a person who has worked in the Radio Industry for a very long time and now I own and run my very own 80's Radio Station! "Happy Harry Hard-On" was such an inspiration to so many young people cos he spoke the truth about real issues, which makes the movie just as relevant now to young people finding their own voice and individuality as it was back then. Young people of all ages should watch this classic cult movie because "PUMP UP THE VOLUME" is timeless and will never age to the issues that young people face every single day. And finally I should mention that after being disappointed with how many awesome songs from the movie were left off the 'Official Soundtrack CD', I decided to do the research and spent many months searching and compiling the COMPLETE MOVIE SOUNDTRACK in exactly the same order of when those songs were featured in the movie. I have included the RUclips Playlist below so all of the "PUTV" Fans can truly enjoy the soundtrack, the way it should have been and was meant to be! Cheers! PUMP UP THE VOLUME SOUNDTRACK PLAYLIST: ruclips.net/p/PLZca-m_IMM0Dp-intwOi8YTQGrulmnuqF
Dude your list was cool … I finnaly found that song when slaters walking outside and the song “ talk hard” - Stan ridgeway is playing … never could find it.. keep looking up life is hard as rocks or life is hard… it looks like there’s only a live version when in the movie it’s a studio cut… I’ve been trying to find this song since 1990 !!! Awesome flick
Fantastic compilation, thank you! 11 months later, 4 videos are unavailable but everything else is there. I like the bonus inclusion of the youngbloods get together, that Mark sarcastically references in his broadcast. Great to see the other content in the playlist that includes this video and an interview with Christian Slater after the final song Stand.
@@MichaelSTaylor We have the complete soundtrack as audio mp3's on hard drive, which was compiled by watching the movie in full, pausing as each song played and then jotting down every single song in the exact order as they aired in the film. We then use this original database to regularly check our RUclips compilation list, just in case any of the music videos have been deleted by the user or removed by YT. If this happens we then go hunting for alternate versions of the songs and replace any that might go missing. So far after checking it just now, all music videos have remained intact with our authentic list on hard drive - nothing is currently missing. The only extra additions are videos like the movie trailer, film locations, video reviews and interviews with Christian Slater. We will always keep our Soundtrack Playlist Compilation authentic and complete to how these songs were featured in the film.
@@pantherslair Again awesome effort, and thanks for the quick heads up. I said what I did because when I play through the playlist near the top (on my Android phone) it says "unavailable videos are hidden." At the bottom of the playlist it says "4 unavailable videos are hidden." Two things I'm thinking, they were original videos that were replaced with viewable copies, or something I just thought of, I am using a VPN and sometimes there are geographical restrictions when it comes to certain videos that you can view. I'll check later to see if turning off my VPN makes a difference.
Attended Saugus High from '93-97, many of the shots in the Film are what the school looked like 3 years before I was there, and sometime before the 1991 or 1992 school year, the school got a fresh coat of light blue paint on a lot of the exterior walls. The Saugus I went to had Light Blue Letterman Jackets, (still have mine) and sometime in recent years they repainted it largely white and dark blue.
I went to Saugus high in the mid 90's and grew up in the area. The little plaza where the post office was and pizza place, the big pipeline in the back of the school and little softball field in the back where they all parked to listen to happy harry hard on...great memories. The school basically looked the same when I went as it was seen in the movie. Crazy how much that school has changed currently. I would love to take a walk on that campus now just to see the changes in person.
The Green Hornet Episode Eat Drink and Be Dead was filmed at Saugus High when it was a pig farm. Weeds was filmed out there. I could go on forever. RIP Bruce Lee
Absolutely fantastic, I love this movie, seen it countless times, so I can def relate to those scene locations. Absolutely brillaint matey, Looking forward to the next one 😃
Awesome job bro, it's one of my all-time favorites .it doesn't get much love but I think it's a great movie . Keep up the good work ,it's appreciated. Be safe out there . 😎 Nice job finding the church ⭐
Inspiration to my eyes you are out there doing exactly what I loved doing finding all the locations to these films and how you are pulling it off has made alot of my wishes come true and to the T. I salute your excellence as king of the 80s. Keep filming dude.
A massive applause for your efforts on the film locations! I assume the basement where the pirate radio station was located was a film studio? (You only see the back of his house or basement entryway) The scenes shot as "he DJ's" in the basement is the prized location for this film!
I just watched this movie tonight and then I watched your video. Thanks man, great job. And such a great movie. And since you are now in the 90s I'd like to ask you to cover the filming locations of T2 Judgment Day. I've seen your video about the first Terminator and it was awesome! Now, it's the time for the greatest movie ever made :) Cheers!
All the business signs were the actual names and Double Deal Pizza was next to the Kwik Pik. I got caught stealing a bottle of water from the Kwik when I was 9 😂
I think it could be made, just that it would be streamed on RUclips or something by a mystery person. Tech has changed, but has the message? I would say it is still relevant today!
Was hoping you'd try to speak to the chiropractor, assuming it's the same one, and ask if they experienced anything with the filming.. Regardless, great job for a great movie.

Fun Fact: if you visit Saugus High School and turn on your radio to 92 FM, you can hear audio of the movie broadcast on a continuously loop.
