I used to travel a lot for work, and I always had a plastic bag for the remote, and antibacterial wet wipes for light switches and AC control. I used to stay in same hotels and after a while staff remembers you and if you are good to them they'll be good to you! One time I was staying in 5* hotel in Paris and someone canceled presidential suite last minute and they billed them cancellation fee. So instead of my 500€/night suite I was bumped to 2500€/night (200 m2 - 2,100 sq. ft.) Presidential Suite all to myself for 3 days! At that time I was working in cosmetics industry and had bunch of samples and perfume testers that I sheared with the staff. So those weren't extravagant gifts of huge tips, but people appreciate and remember.
Housekeepers are the best, befriended one and her daughter oversea once, they surprised me with a gift at the end of my stay, which was very nice, but I felt kinda bad 'cause the salary was very low in Turkey! Weird how you meet ppl for 2.3 weeks and at the end everyone is crying their eyes out when one has to go :) oh well...
Joshua I’m guessing to not have to pay for an overpriced chocolate bar or drink just because it was late your you didn’t feel like walking to the store 😂
Another hotel secret..if u have to cancel ur reservation in the last 24 hours then u have to pay a penalty, so to avoid that change ur reservation date to the next week and call after 2 days to cancel it without penalty
That really doesn't always work. I highly recommend not trying this unless you booked flexible dates. Also if you're booking during a very, very, busy time for the hotel the cancelation policy changes. For example when it was graduation time and you had to cancel The reservation you only had 45 days prior to the event. Once it hit that 45 day mark or less than 45 days you would be charged one night for cancelation. And that cost would be an average of $400
"They're just gonna be sitting around, watching movies, and raiding the minibar. That's the kind of clientele we want..."😂 LOL I was always paranoid about being fined or something for the weed smell. Thanks for reassuring me.😂
You can still be fined if the hotel can’t use the room for the next few days because of the smell. I think he meant more like we don’t care that’s it’s illegal, but if the room smells, of course there’s a problem.
Letting you know remotes, comforters, we use to use pillowcases to wipe the shower floor, mirrors, and sometimes the toilet seats .was blown away when I was trained like that .. working in a hotel made not want to stay in hotels
At my hotel we do clean our remotes because they are the flat ones that can easily be cleaned. We also do clean our bedspreads, it all depends on the hotel I guess. And true - if you're polite, treat me with respect and did not book on Expedia or Booking or anything like that I can easily upgrade you if I wish. ALSO - if you PREPAY online I DO still need your credit card at check in. Why? Because if you damage my room I need someone to charge!

Once i was staying in a hotel outside of Las Vegas and I was 11 at the time, the room next to us was smoking so much weed our room smelt like snoop dog had just had a party there!! Im from Australia and had never actually smelt weed. My parents left me in the room to sleep and I remember wondering why I couldn't, now I think its because I was high... Ik I'm late but this story fit this video so perfectly I just had to!
I fully agree on this. If it's honest-to-God not clean then say something. However don't do it to get a free upgrade, a lot of times the front desk will go up and look at the room.
Lady Malkavian I worked at reception at a 5 star hotel and we didn't send someone up or go up if someone complains. We just move and note it on the housekeeping sheet for the manager the next day.

2 blonde Nuggets weed is illegal in some places in the US but somehow people still get their hands on it... it's really annoying when people blatantly disobey the law edit: its been a year and i don’t believe this anymore!! i just find it really funny that i was so worked up over weed 😭

Easiest way to get an upgrade is just be super nice. No need to tip like crazy just be genuinely nice and ask politely. Speaking for myself anyways. If I see you have booked from a cheaper site or gotten a good deal then I would actually do the opposite of what that guy said. I'd try to give you the best experience I could and upgrade if possible. :) As i'm sure most people who get a good deal on a fancy hotel are going to enjoy staying at such a nice establishment a lot more than some richie rich who does that all the time!
I VERY rarely upgrade people who book from discount sites. Just because there's so many issues with those sites, I try to discourage people from using them. So I upgrade people who booked directly with us or on our site. Even if they aren't paying much, although yes, I do typically upgrade people who paid more first, or if they're a member of our rewards program. Although honestly, if someone asks i NEVER upgrade, unless they offer to pay for it. I hate people who want freebies. Upgrades are a gift, not something you're entitled to. If you want the bigger room, pay for it. If you go to a restaurant and order a 4 oz steak, you aren't going to expect to be "upgraded" to an 8oz
Katie so you don’t like getting free things once in awhile?? I once walked into dunken donuts to get one donuts which they didn’t have and they gave me (I WAS NOT EXPECTING IT)5 dozen donuts and two boxes of donut holes for free I was so happy and shared it with everyone around. (Co-workers, soccer team, family, friends, and neighbors) sometimes it can make someone’s day to upgrade without them having to pay more.
As a housekeeper, I can definitely vouch for the remote being the dirtiest thing in the room and that smoking in a non-smoking room does put the room out for about a week or so. We had someone stay for like a week and requested no housekeeping and when they left, the bathtub had cigarette ashes in it (which meant that they didn't shower the whole week) and it reeked of cigarette smell. This happened like a month ago and we just now were able to put the room back to being rented this week. Please do not smoke in hotel rooms that say no smoking, they are the hardest to clean and we have to put it out 9 times out of 10. Thanks for listening to my TED talk XD
Lol why don't you have ozone generators in your hotel? When there's cigarette or marijuana smell in rooms we usually put those machines in the room and the odor goes away in a few hours
@@sal_strazzullo we have a smoke machine that’s supposed to help with the smell but it does almost nothing for rooms that reek of it. We may just need a better machine but my boss is so stingy with money 🙄 we do everything we can including spraying the room down with a concentrated spray but you can still smell it 🤮
Lysol doesn't kill everything (and more is becoming resistant to it all the time) and your going to give your kids allergies if your don't let them get exposed to mild pathogens. Also lysol isn't good for you itself. The wipes aren't too bad (They hit what you are trying to hit and nothing else) and in some situation they are great, but that spray crap is inaccurate garbage that is going to get on your cloths skin, eyes and lungs and will most likely miss a lot of the surface you are trying to clean unless you uses an excessive amount like they do in the commercials.
Jahnavi Sodha ok, ok, I'll give you one but you'll regret asking... My company reuses hot dogs that have been cooked and haven't been sold for the next day.
ColdThund3r phew! I only get coke at theatres.. and if you don't mind me asking, why do you people always bother offering service right at the time when couples are making out? It's so embarrassing right? Like we know that you know that we would be making out, but you don't even try hiding that fact. You people have a smirk on your face that says everything! 😅😅
Kat'z Meow yeah the floor is even worse you know they don't deep clean the carpets unless they have to so other than that just a quick vacuum so plenty of bodily fluids all over...
The best hotels attract the biggest bitches... In our hotel we had David Schwimmer with Seth Green staying once and when there were other guests asking for a picture, David would literally scream ''dont you even dare take any pictures of us!''
I used to work for a hotel company on the reservation side of things, if you have a loyalty account and you’re rude to anyone it gets noted and we can see all of it, from complaints from the hotel, to comments made that were offhand and crass. Hotel staff know everything, as do the reservations team. Respect your reservationists as well as your hotel staff and they’ll extend the same courtesy to you.
It works the other way too! My mom used to plan large trips for her company and used some of their loyalty points for personal vacations (with permission). We got treated like freaking royalty at some hotels because my mom's employees were great guests and the company budgeted to tip the hotel staff like crazy.
I know a girl who always puts the complementary shower cap around the remote control to protect her hands from germs whenever she stays at a hotel. Not a bad idea actually... 🦠
@@fhhjgfdhgtd4228 I doubt it because at the hotel where I work the housekeepers are supposed to wipe it with a Lysol wipe (but btw most of the times it's not done)
My dad used to be the Night Manager for the Hampton hotel in our town. He managed to meet Avril Levine (she had just released skater boi) and saw Ice Cube stumble into the lobby all beat up and bloodied. After having that job for five years, he understood why Mr. Mosby was always in a pissy mood.
It's called wipes, not spray! I was a bit angry when he said that, lol You can bet your damn ass NOW they're cleaning more thoroughly..... At least I would hope so.
I agree with the tv remotes. however, the bathtubs are the grossest thing in the hotel room. No one has time to clean a whole room in 10 minutes and also make sure the bathtub is 100% clean
I think that depends on the hotel. I worked as a housekeeper for the summer and we had to scrub de bathtubs until our arms fell off, our manager would check them everytime and if she didn't think they were clean enough she would make us wash them one more time. Also, we cleaned the tv remotes with a damp cloth sprayed with antidust spray. But again, that's the case for the hotel i worked at.
I personally carry a bottle filled with rubbing alcohol (with a few drops of lavender oil) every where I go and I spray pretty much everything I touch.... If you think hotels are gross, then you don't want to know whats on shopping carts....
One time my mum called the front desk to ask if they had a spare wardrobe. Not even kidding, and she didn’t have hidden intentions. She genuinely wanted more storage space bc it was a Mum and 3 girls in 1 room. Anyway they moved us to the penthouse
That's exactly what I was thinking. I'm a housekeeper, so its common sense to wipe down the remote when we have a checkout. I even wipe down the remote controls at home.
Not calling you a liar but wouldn't Jay Z have a manager booking his hotels for him? I know famous people use fake names or their managers names to book hotels.
It depends on the type. But it smells strongest in a bad way if you aren't used to it. It helps if the piece isn't too clogged either or you could still get that pure smoke almost tobacco like smell.
At a hotel I worked at I kept getting complaints about certain guests. I went up to their room to ask them to be quiet because of all the complaints. I also needed o make sure they weren't destroying the room. A guy answered the door, holding the cabinet door in his hand....he assured me nothing was wrong and they'll be quiet. Long story short the next am I had to call the police to remove them out of their room. They left a lot of booze, weed, coke, and a cat. (Don't worry I found the cat a good home)
I legit couldn’t stop laughing. I work at a hotel and these were all spot on!! Honestly, the best way to get free upgrades and get the room you want is just being nice to us. If you come at us demanding upgrades and thinking you own the place, we won't really bend over backwards to honor your requests. And for the love of god, DON'T begin an argument because you don't want to pay for the incidentals, we can't check you in without one 😅
When's the best time and what is the best way to ask for it without sounding like a mooch? I legit want to try this the next time I go on a vacation. Lol :P
Jean Ko Din it honestly depends on the person. But from my experience, ask to see how busy they are that day and if they aren’t sold out, ask while checking in! Saves us all the trouble from moving you later on. But ALWAYS be nice to the front desk staff..you’ll most likely get whatever you want from us that way :)
I always tip the front desk for upgrades lol 😂 I know how customers can be difficult about their "special day" so I'm just like, here you need this $20-$40 for the stress for today. Lmaoo
The key with me is being funny and nice. I’ve given free upgrades only because I found a guest hilarious. Also, it’s harder, but you have more chances of getting it if you’re coming mid week on a not so busy period
You are spot on. I work at a hotel doing front desk. If a guest comes in rude i will be polite but i wont bend over backwards with all of their requests. Theres nothing worse the being treated like your nothing when you are just trying to do your job and make someones vacation enjoyable
happens all the time. Trust me. Everyone that has ever worked with guests in hotels (doesn´t matter if a waiter or receptionist or a bartender or a housekeeper) has had this thing at least once in their career. Had the same about a man in one room who said the AC wouldn´t work. Had to go up to the room and he was just wearing a towel which also was way to short(must have been a hand towel) and he asked me if I could fix it and stay a bit to check if it is really working. This happend while I was a trainee in my apprenticeship. You´ll get used to it and you´ll learn how to react. Trust me.
I work at Sky Zone, its a trampoline park, I think you guys should make a video like this using Trampoline park employees. I guarantee you'd be surprised at the things we could tell you.
I've stayed at a suite hotel, it was spotless! I accidentally flung the lid to the coffee carafe behind the refrigerator ( this suite had a full kitchen) we moved the refrigerator to get it and under it was spotless!! I was very impressed! I used to be a janitor and cleaned professionally for 12 yrs. I get excited over spotless hotel rooms or suites.
I did hotel security & had a female guest see a 🚑 go by going code lll. She got scared & gave me $20.00. Asked for her room to get extra security. 👮🏻♂️. I took the 💵 & went off duty an hour later. 😉
When there's an oder or cigarettes or weed in the room we charge them durning and after the fact. Some people think they are being sneeky and then find their cards charged a fee for it.
We had a guest who requested no cleaning for the few days they were there, they just took clean sheets and changed it out themselves... they were frequent guests on contract with the railroad... when they checked out last month, housekeeping discovered they had not only smoked in the room, but tampered with the smoke alarm as well. Their company was called, they were charged a huge fee, and banned from staying with us ever again.
I paid $500 per night to stay at the Four Seasons in Maui and you know I took advantage of everything to make every last penny count. Took extra extra long showers and baths, took advantage of the complimentary drinks inside the room and in the lobby, made sure to take the bars of soap, shampoo and conditioners with me when I left, took rolls of toilet papers and Kleenex boxes, took pens and notepads... Etc..
Hotel night manager for 4 years pro-tip: Don't use Expeida, Bookings, Priceline etc to get a better rate. A little secret for you: We set the rates with Expedia, priceline, etc. So unless you just REALLY want to do it all on one website, you're better off doing it on the hotel's website (or better yet, call their reservation line and talk to someone who works there. Trust me, it makes things go a lot smoother)
not all revenue managers allow their staff to match rate that customer has found online unfortunately ( and i have worked for 6 years in reception myself) often customer is ending up with having reservation for wrong date as for example expedia comes up as cheaper but also it has changed date to get you cheapest deal where customer thinks its the same date as you wanted - to make things worse, majority of these deals are non-refundable
Exactly. Not only that but the room type you think you booked on Expedia, Priceline, etc isn't always what they reserve. Recently I had a guest book through Expedia. They booked a wheelchair accessible room with 2 beds. They specified it on their reservation (on Expedia's website) mulitple times they have a wheelchair bound guest and needed first floor or near an elevator etc. Well. What did Expedia reserve? A standard single king. Right and there were also 3 adults and a child. When I called expedia to tell them they needed to place the guest elsewhere because we didn't have an available wheelchair accessible room to accommodate any changes, they said they were aware the guest requested that room but wanted our hotel, they thought the guest wouldn't mind a standard room.
All hotels get bed bugs at some point, whether high end or a $50 motel, they hall get them. It doesn't mean that the hotel isn't clean, it's that a guest brings them in.
Sometimes they can be hard to find. Sometimes the room is exterminated but they buried themselves in a deep corner so they unfortunately return. In some cases (not all) the guest that finds the bugs actually brought them in on their luggage, clothes, etc. The hotel doesn't just burn the sheet/towels/furniture when they find the bugs right? If its just sheets they just do 2 hot wash cycles to kill and sanitize everything.
Stephanie Cramer What Stephanie says is correct. You can have the cleanest hotel in the world and still get a bed bug infestation. It's an absolute myth that they only like dirty places. They're very hard to get rid ofvwhen someone brings them in. Then people move rooms and it just spreads.
I’ve been a front desk in a kinda fancy hotel in miami beach, my recomendation is to be nice with us, bring leftover pizza and a 20 and you can magically have an ocean view upgrade (worth 400 usd)
LanceDaPsycho works as well as long as we maybe get a request later on to that upgraded room. Working in a hotel sure does have it's pros and cons haha.
LanceDaPsycho not really, i’ve had really hot girls but im not impressed by beauty, after all, nothing’s gonna happen between us you feel me? A 20 is better
Yes there was a used condom in our room that was not ours. They said no thats not true. My hubby took the phone and said , look man it is not ours we are here for time away ,so we can relax because we can try to conceive. That part was true as well. Not only did they upgrade us but they also wished us luck. Lol. BTW we are still trying.

Quinn Reed very true. They appreciate way more. Richie rich usually don’t care
to much to read
Yayyy you are the best. I would do the same .good vibes everyday

Victoria Hobbs good to know 😆
Lol why don't you have ozone generators in your hotel? When there's cigarette or marijuana smell in rooms we usually put those machines in the room and the odor goes away in a few hours
@@sal_strazzullo we have a smoke machine that’s supposed to help with the smell but it does almost nothing for rooms that reek of it. We may just need a better machine but my boss is so stingy with money 🙄 we do everything we can including spraying the room down with a concentrated spray but you can still smell it 🤮
We have an ionizer at my hotel that gets rid of cigarette smells within a few hours. I'm a housekeeper too! :)
I hope you charged them a cleaning fee $$$
Now I don’t feel weird anymore for using Lysol wipes on the remote and door handles
NEVER FEEL WEIRD!!! People have the nerve to look at me weird for wiping stuff down before me and/or my toddler touch it but if they only knew....
I bring cleaning supplies like I work there and will clean the room before I relax 🙈🤣 Who wouldn’t bring lysol wipes
Nancy Canto me too, I used to work Molly Maid back in the day
Nancy Canto I’ve done that too!! Omg I’m not alone lol!!!
The rat idea was kinda smart but the person who threw the receipt in the trash can in the room is not smart
Well they would pay for the rat at smart then take care of it for the rest of its life JUST BY THE ROOM
and definitely not PetSmart
Movie theater employees should be next
I've worked at a theater for 8 years, I don't think y'all are ready for any secrets we have. 😂

ColdThund3r oh please I'm dying to know the secrets now. Please do tell.

Working in hotels, I’ve never seen as many grown adults throw tantrums in my life. I’ve worked at very nice hotels too.
The best hotels attract the biggest bitches... In our hotel we had David Schwimmer with Seth Green staying once and when there were other guests asking for a picture, David would literally scream ''dont you even dare take any pictures of us!''
@@dacksie100 I can’t imagine anyone wanting to take a pic of David
I used to work for a hotel company on the reservation side of things, if you have a loyalty account and you’re rude to anyone it gets noted and we can see all of it, from complaints from the hotel, to comments made that were offhand and crass. Hotel staff know everything, as do the reservations team. Respect your reservationists as well as your hotel staff and they’ll extend the same courtesy to you.
Bree Von Bash this is so true. And if you have scammed before too.
It works the other way too! My mom used to plan large trips for her company and used some of their loyalty points for personal vacations (with permission). We got treated like freaking royalty at some hotels because my mom's employees were great guests and the company budgeted to tip the hotel staff like crazy.
Bree Von Bash lol.
Yas
Yes, just be nice toward workers 👍
When did Kevin Jonas start working in the hotel industry?
he looks more like a grown up Frankie Jonas with a beard lol
I know a girl who always puts the complementary shower cap around the remote control to protect her hands from germs whenever she stays at a hotel. Not a bad idea actually... 🦠
Brilliant!
Or just wipe it with a disinfecting wipe
@@sal_strazzullo that can damage it tho
@@fhhjgfdhgtd4228 I doubt it because at the hotel where I work the housekeepers are supposed to wipe it with a Lysol wipe (but btw most of the times it's not done)
@@sal_strazzullo the hotel i worked at too. I always wiped down the remotes since people tend to use them a lot.
+Onyx Fire hi! i respect you as a human being

So what I’m getting from this is that Avril Lavigne beat up ice cube
No, these were two separate incidents. My apologies for not articulating the separation.

“you can’t really spray a remote down” yeah you can
It's called wipes, not spray! I was a bit angry when he said that, lol
You can bet your damn ass NOW they're cleaning more thoroughly.....
But again, that's the case for the hotel i worked at.
andreea nuconteaza ^same.
andreea nuconteaza please share the name and location of the hotel. That place deserve more clients.
Who said they did it in 10 minutes?
Tosca Esmé that's why I take showers at hotels with my flip flops on lol
This just makes me never want to go to a hotel ever again
TheSammyShow I never been in a hotel and honestly i wouldn't want to right now
I lost it after the porn shoot thing was discussed. I pray that I never end up in a room where that has happened.
You probably shouldn't then
I personally carry a bottle filled with rubbing alcohol (with a few drops of lavender oil) every where I go and I spray pretty much everything I touch.... If you think hotels are gross, then you don't want to know whats on shopping carts....

I’m a house keeper and I always clean the remotes.. y’all are gross
That's exactly what I was thinking. I'm a housekeeper, so its common sense to wipe down the remote when we have a checkout. I even wipe down the remote controls at home.

hal cat smells like heaven
I️ do have a moral objection to weed, and it smells bad too.
It depends on the type. But it smells strongest in a bad way if you aren't used to it. It helps if the piece isn't too clogged either or you could still get that pure smoke almost tobacco like smell.
It smells horribly but I have no moral objection to it just don’t come next to me smelling like weed
Weed smells so nice tho 😂❤️
You should have added "what is the worst they had ever to clean up" makes for good stories. *grins*
moonygarou I'm pretty sure these were front desk people and not housekeepers, so they probably don't clean.
Punky Pie I work front desk at a hotel, and one of my jobs is to actually help housekeeping clean rooms when needed.
It really depends on the type of hotel/motel. I’ve worked at four hotels and only two required me to run things to rooms and fold laundry, etc.

Is none gonna talk about what the girl said about the celebrity that would “do this to her if she did it”?!
happens all the time. Trust me.

I am a houseman and I don't snitch on smokers, however I find rude they smoke weed and don't leave a piece of it for us 😐

Hotel night manager for 4 years
pro-tip: Don't use Expeida, Bookings, Priceline etc to get a better rate.
I recently booked a room because I couldn't find the Hotel's website. Also, I'm not about to call to set reserve a room lol.
But i use these because I'm from a whole another continent. The bill to get through alone would be more!
May god bless you
All hotels get bed bugs at some point, whether high end or a $50 motel, they hall get them. It doesn't mean that the hotel isn't clean, it's that a guest brings them in.
And 90% of the time it was an american tourist who gave us the bed bugs :/
Stephanie Cramer if the hotel doesn’t get rid of them at that point then it IS dirty.
Alexandre PEPION idk what this has to do with Americans
Stephanie Cramer What Stephanie says is correct. You can have the cleanest hotel in the world and still get a bed bug infestation. It's an absolute myth that they only like dirty places. They're very hard to get rid ofvwhen someone brings them in. Then people move rooms and it just spreads.
