Was the in-person off the same as the online offer? If not, was it drastically different? I'm concerned the online offer is a trick to get you in the door to be lowballed.

In our experience, we were always offered what the quote said. I suppose if the car is in worse condition than you say, but it is in the initial questionnaire then they could offer you some thing lower, but in our case this hasn’t happened the couple times we’ve used them.

To sell your car to CarMax in 5 easy steps, follow this guide:
    1. Research and prepare your car: Before visiting CarMax, gather information about your car's make, model, year, and condition. This will help you understand its approximate value. Clean your car both inside and out to make a good impression.
    2. Gather necessary documents: Collect all essential paperwork, such as the car's title, registration, and service records. This will help streamline the selling process.
    3. Visit a CarMax location: Find the nearest CarMax store using their store locator on their website or app. Schedule an appointment to have your car appraised.
    4. Get an appraisal: During your appointment, a CarMax appraiser will inspect your car, taking note of its condition, features, and any additional accessories. They will then provide you with a written appraisal offer, which includes the car's value and the amount you could expect to receive if you were to sell it to them.
    5. Negotiate and complete the sale: If you accept the appraisal offer, you will need to provide the necessary paperwork and complete the sale. CarMax will handle the transfer of ownership, registration, and title. If you are trading in your car for a new one, they will guide you through the process of purchasing your next vehicle.
Remember to ask any questions you may have throughout the process, and ensure you feel comfortable with the transaction before proceeding.

Wow wow wow! Well said! What an incredible comment! Thanks so much for sharing. I have heard from some subscribers and friends that the offers coming out of Car Max aren’t quite as generous as a year ago or so. Some people have gotten better offers selling direct to dealers and they say the process is pretty similar.

So if you still owed a bank a money , carmax will send the amount to the bank? And gives the difference?

Exactly. That might be the best part. Although I’ve heard the offers people have been getting lately have gone down a bit

How long did it take for them to pay off your loan

I owe $19500 on my car but Carmax is only offering $14k for my car. I have to sell it this year so that I can retire overseas. How can I convince them to be more fair? Its just a 2 yr old car and it is in new condition.

I’ve heard that offers have gone down of late. Might be worth checking a local dealer or maybe carvana. Good luck!

how long was the test drive for?

Usually about 10 minutes. If you watch our video before this one we were having an issue with our check engine light coming on due to some heavy rains so we had our fingers crossed the whole time. It’s not the most thorough inspection they just make sure the brakes work and signals and that the car doesn’t make any crazy noises.

How old was your car when you sold your vehicle? I’m thinking of selling mine.

Ours was a 2014 with 115,000 miles and we sold it in 2022. Our offer was $9,800 probably could’ve gotten $12k if we sold private but it just wasn’t worth the hassle for us.

    How do they pay you?

Great question. They cut you a check and give it to you right there. In our case we got a couple grand more than we owed on our loan payment. They handle all that for you and pay off your bank then the remainder is given to you in a check. Great question. I wish we had included it in the video, thanks for watching!

What if they give you less than your loan payment on your recent car? Do you still get a check?
