I'm sure I misheard/misread: 5.5$ for a bagel, with 1$ for tip. Holy mascarpone, over five dollars for a bagel from a bagel mass manufacture (fresh, but still), and 20% tip for a place you don't get to sit down and they want you out the door ASAP...

everyone likes their nations food, but as a latvian i really like our food quality and taste. Its simple usually, becouse we are not rich,but its buffed to maximum. Also we are almost migrant free country, specially outside of riga, so generally great place to travel.

Pelmeņi are chinese, similar to ravioli. Not sure what pirogi are in ruzzia, but in Latvia pīrāgi or in deminutive pīrādziņi are a type of small pastries with bacon inside. Google speķa pīrādziņi. :)

We usually go out only on Fridays or weekeend, so yes Thursday feeling empty is expected. Also this winter is warm, usually it would be around -10 Celsius already, and also another reason for less people out, is winter, is cold/wet, and dark .. Glad you enjoyed your time!

If it is sour and red then it most likely is lingonberry sauce or jam. We Estonians like to eat lingonberry during Christmas. It looks like cranberry but tastes very different. It grows in many marshes and forests of Estonia.

I love when foreigns say something is cheap, but in my mind I still have a pricing from 5 years ago, when all of this would cost at least 25% less and some stuff even 50%. Like "Pyry z Bzikiem" (cottage cheese and big potato) cost 31zł.. if you were to make it at home it would cost you 5zł (and I'm already overpricing it), let's mark up the price 200% because you are buying outside and in the old town and another 100% because it's festival, soo 300%. So 20zł, honestly wouldn't buy it for 20zł.
