    I've only been playing this game for a day or two and I can already tell this one ain't for me. In my opinion the combat system violates the KISS principle, which is exactly what you don't want in any kind of combat situation. There's so many things to keep track of all at the one time that it ends up being an information pileup. I don't doubt for a second that the card based system would definitely work in a more slow paced or turn based system, I'd pay money for that in a heartbeat, but when you're trying to keep track of everything while dodging enemy attacks it becomes overwhelming very quickly.

    • @contentlyforlorn1423
      @contentlyforlorn1423 4 года назад +7

      The mechanics of the game is way too simple for turn-based as it is essentially just playing War without the luck. I would love to see a more complex card-based system and have that implemented in a turn-based Kingdom Hearts game though. For me, the enjoyment of this game comes from the cognitive overload it induces by having to keep track of everything. It is stressful, but it definitely keeps fights a bit more exciting.

    Just wanted to say: it is a bit difficult to adapt to this new combat system, but trust me, it is worth it!
    It's fun and challenging, and you actually use your brain to attack, instead of just spamming the "x" key on your controller.
    What I can tell you is, you'll have to play at least for two hours in order to fully understand the combat system, but if you're willing to do it, you will not be disappointed.

    This May be The Best Guide about RECOM's Playstyle and how You Can Have a better Time with the game and more Fun!
    At 06:03 You gave the player an advice "Stay away From Premuim Cards", but I think this is a good advice but also a bad advice at the same time, When the new player see a 'Premuim bonus' The game does not tell him how do Premuim Cards work, But after the player understands that he may use them as a First card in a Sleight and they may even use that to his advantage at early levels when your CP is low untill you have a CP of 300 or more with at least 12 attack cards and two zero cards to survive for a long battle.
    At the end I liked This Video and as a player who loves RECOM's playstyle It's nice to see More people enjoy this game.

    • @DERIKUF
      @DERIKUF  6 лет назад +4

      You definitely have a point regarding premium cards; knowing how to use them well can make your deck so much more powerful. The guide is aimed at new players, so the primary concern is to have them survive. In the video I did say that you could spam sleights, but I didn't say it was the only way to play the game. If you (like me) don't like to just spam sleights, but want to use normal attacks as well, then it can be a lot harder to incorporate the premium cards (especially for new players) and then you risk running out of cards. In the end I just wanted to make sure new players don't feel frustrated playing this game, so we can get more people to enjoy it :) But thanks for the feedback by the way.

      I personally found little use out of Premiums up until I got Elixers, which is decently late. If you're like me and spammed Firaga/Blizzaga most of the game, you definitely didn't need the extra benefit from Premium that much. Although, once I was starting to get to the end game bosses and started using enemy cards like Marluxias or the Lethal Frame sleights that used a ton of CP, that's when I learned to appreciate them more. It's a shame you cant make item cards Premiums, otherwise they would be a LOT more useful. Still, people like to say Premiums are complete garbage and never worth doing, but once you get the item cards that reload unreloadable cards, they're definitely worth it, especially if you're a sleight spammer.

    • @jhm21433
      @jhm21433 6 лет назад +2

      @@Forged4War206 Premium Cards can be useful; if you build your deck around them and that's why they're cheaper than normal cards.
      And Item Cards are technically Premuim Cards but their CP cost isn't effected, You can use them once; But cannot reload them after they're used, And because of that I use them always as the First Card of a Sleight with two other High number cards to make sure I don't get Card Broken.

    • @Forged4War206
      @Forged4War206 6 лет назад

      Ye I mainly just meant that if Item cards got the benefit of lower CP from being premium that would be really nice considering stuff like Megalixers are very high CP. I'm aware that they disappear regardless.
      Like DERIKUF mentioned, regardless of building your deck around them, you still run into a lot of issues using them early on in the game when there aren't a lot of sleights available to you, and you're using a LOT of regular attacks still. I found saving a little bit of extra CP was not really worth giving up the extra flexibility of being able to not always have to stock your cards as much. I think telling newer players not to worry so much about Premiums is reasonable considering that until you learn how to properly utilize them in your deck, they're essentially somewhat of a crutch, and somewhat misleading. I'd say they're for more "experienced" players who are able to build good decks without much help.

    • @Forged4War206
      @Forged4War206 6 лет назад +1

      I think it's simply just due to the lack of a faithful fan base. Re: CoM is arguably one of the least popular of all the games in the KH series, mostly due to the fact it steers so far away from the traditional combat style, and is also balanced quite poorly with very linear gameplay/bosses. This makes it unappealing for a lot of people to want to dedicate extra time to really learn the game and all the ins and outs, thus less in depth guides and videos are made about it. Hell a lot of people I know that aren't major KH nerds like myself completely skipped over this game after playing the game for like an hour, but are willing to play through something like Dream Drop Distance which has its own slew of issues. Most of the KH content creators would rather dedicate their time to other games in the series such as BBS and KH2. The few "content creators" I've seen that made guides or vids about Re: CoM are pretty mediocre in quality for some reason, I'm not sure why, you're one of the few good ones. After simply playing the game once with Sora and Riku on Proud, it honestly surprises me to see so much incorrect or subpar advice out there from players who claim to have beaten the game several times over, and this was my first time.
      Still someone's gotta do it, so once again, thanks for being such a great source.

    • @DERIKUF
      @DERIKUF  6 лет назад +1

      You're probably right. I think this game has an undeserved reputation of being a bad game, simply (as you mentioned) because it steers far away from the expectations of what a Kingdom Hearts game is. A lot of people have heard other people say that they should just skip it, so when and if they do give it a try, they go into the game thinking it'll be bad and then play a couple of hours before they let themselves convince that the critics were right. It's a shame really. The game sure has its flaws, but it can still be a fun and interesting game.

    Chain of Memories feels like a Kingdom Hearts game for people who hate Kingdom Hearts games. No matter how strong I build up my deck, number of slights I've added, and variation of attacks I've tried, the bosses always have exactly what they need to stomp me.
    It feels so cheap. I watch the enemy flip through cards like a madman while simultaneously popping off 7s, 8s, and 9s. Meanwhile I gotta wait and watch 90% of the time as I carefully flip through my deck in response to whatever I see the enemy preparing and PRAY that whatever attack I am about to use will NOT be immediately cancelled out. I can hardly ever get a full combo in, can barely ever heal myself, can't get a chance to reload with items, the limitations just continue to pile up. It's almost a game of pure chance.
    Even when I do finally win, I don't feel any satisfaction, I'm just relieved that it's over. It's simply too much to keep track of for the level of difficulty and speed granted to the bosses to the point where I can't have any fun playing. There's hardly anything to learn regarding enemy difficulty. No attack patterns, no strategy, no nothing. The difficulty just comes from whether or not your deck is suited for the particular enemy.
    It's formulaic to the point where it almost railroads you, whereas all other KH games offer a path of least resistance, but still leave room for creativity and experimentation. I'm stuck on Riku Replica after Twilight Town now, and I am not looking forward to the boss gauntlet ahead of me. This is the one KH game that I will not return to nor look back fondly on once it's over.

    How to make Re-Chain of Memories easy by someone who struggled with it for a while and at first only played it for the story. Use only 9 and 0 cards. Seriously, those are the only cards you want in your deck. Get a deck full of them and you’re set. Doesn’t matter what keyblade cards you use at first just make it full of 9s and focus on getting more powerful variants later. For 0 cards try to get Kingdom Key ones since they’re cheapest and they’re only for countering so other stats don’t matter. Sleights aren’t really that important aside from Friend sleights which you should use freely, or stock up cards with a Friend card first to avoid losing access to your cards. Farm Moogle points in 100 acre woods at Rabbt’s house and use them to buy better cards (save before buying cards in case they’re crap to save cash). Use room cards that give positive effects only if you can, no need to make things harder. Level up at least 4-8 times in each floor. Near the end of the game, spam Trinity Limit to wipe out encounters easily for tons of exp to level up a ton before the final boss gauntlet.

    The card battling system works on the GBA because you only need to move left to right in battle mode. Because of the 3D environment, this battle system is very tough to master and a steep learning curve. I best the gba version of this game but in the ps3 version, it is very difficult even on easy to master the controls.

    I'm so confused!😫 I feel db try to play this because I simply can't focus on playing the right card, dodging, collecting the orbs and recharging the deck! So some doors need a specific color and number so why choose one card over the next? The cards that don't have a number are seen as zero? "Upgrading" a card to premium does...something but it makes them disappear the one round you use them? Can you upgrade a cards number? Also I have a card with 0 on it (which I thought that meant it was good) but the description says it's not a very powerful card. Why even have that card if it'll always be beat?

    • @DERIKUF
      @DERIKUF  4 года назад +2

      Alright, I'll try to answer all your questions and concerns:
      - You'll eventually get the hang of keeping of all of these things in your head while fighting, so it's simply a matter of doing it enough so that you get used to it.
      - When it comes to choosing cards for doors you'll want to choose cards such that you don't run out of a particular card midway and then have to grind. For instance if you have a bunch of a specific card but running low on others, it makes sense to use one of the cards you have plenty of, so you don't accidentally run into a door that demands a card you don't have. When choosing a door card, you should also think about what kind of room you want to have. If you are running low on HP and want to save, then use a Moment's Reprieve to get a save point.
      - Upgrading a card to premium decreases the cost of that card, but you can't get the card back in-battle by reloading your deck normally (item cards is the way to go). So premium cards are more a trade-off than a better version of your cards.
      - You cannot upgrade a cards number, you have to buy card packs or hit items to make them drop cards.
      - 0 cards are very good (some would say OP). While they are very weak when played first (because they can be broken by every card), they are extremely powerful when played last. A 0 card can break every other card or sleight played, so if a boss plays a high-level sleight, then just throw a 0 card to break that sleight.

      @@DERIKUF thanks so much! I also have a current question about something called a treasure room. I just finished traverse town and I guess I'll be going to neverland next but there's one more room with an explanation point on it that needs a special card which I don't have. And after I leave this world I have to open new doors to get back but will the room still be there for me to access it? Should I keep opening new doors in traverse town until I get the key card or should I find it through my journey?

    • @DERIKUF

      You're probably talking about the Room of Rewards. It's a room you can only get into after obtaining a gold card called "Key of Rewards". This gold card can be found by defeating enemies, but only after entering floor 7 or 9 (or thereabouts).
