    Nice to hear so many positive things about the movie. It's also really great that the animation industry recently is having a better understanding on how to make good adaptations based on video games.
    Not only that, but aside from The Mario Movie, other animated films that are potentially coming out this year so far like Ruby Gillman, Across the Spiderverse, and TMNT: Mutant Mayhem are looking pretty solid imo.

    I've just come back from watching it, as i expected, I cried tears of joy. As a fan seeing and hearing all the references just brings a smile to my face. I am so happy we saw a full origin story even possibly referencing the 90's version, as I've always had an actual liking for it.
    I saw it in the latin american dub and I think the voices are great, even Charles dubs himself as JumpMan (not for the father, at least not that I could tell myself). I felt the delivery to be superb and fitting. I'll be watching it on the original english dub soon, really want to hear Jack Balck's and Charlie Day's delivery.

    I’m entirely excited and looking forward to seeing this movie tomorrow, almost as much if not more so tha when the first Sonic movie released. While it’s gotten mixed reviews from critics, just like Detective Pikachu and the aforementioned Sonic movies, this seems like a movie made for the fans, not the stuffy reviewers who most likely haven’t picked up a Nintendo game in decades. And since it seems like most fans have enjoyed the movie and had a blast with it based on the LA premiere, then that’s all that really matters to me personally. I’m also entirely glad that Nintendo meticulously made sure to faithfully adapt their movie to the big screen after the disastrous 90s Mario Bros movie made them decide to never have any adaptations of their properties again. With just a few short hours until the movie’s release, I only have one thing to say: let’s a-go!

  • @KirbyPhelpsPK
    @KirbyPhelpsPK Год назад +2

    After seeing it myself and sorting out my feelings, I see this movie as a thrill ride for kids and Nintendo fans. From the moment Mario and Luigi enter the Mushroom Kingdom, it's just "go, go, go!" with visual spectacle, action, and Nintendo references. If that's all you're looking for, then it's a fun watch. But if you're looking for plot, character development, narrative, or getting anything else out of it other than a thrill, then this ain't it. Like the visual design and Nintendo references are great and all, but it's a pretty shallow experience otherwise. I don't know, maybe it's my own fault for expecting anything else from a Mario movie, considering Mario isn't exactly known for telling complex stories.
    And I have to heavily disagree when Steve said his worries of the film being too child-friendly and having nothing for adults was unfounded. It was 100% founded. This is a kid's films. Not a family film, but a kid's film. It's "turn your brain off" entertainment.

    • @maxtubb8560

      I did watch this movie 7 months ago when it came out and It was a decent film but it's definitely not high art cinema and if were talking about other animated films its defiantly not on par with animated movies like Pixar's Toy Story trilogy or Ghibli's Spirited Away but as a huge fan of the Super Mario franchises, I found it to be at the very least an enjoyable film from start to finish.
      I guess I so worried about this film since Illumination was making this film and I'm one of those people who absolutely hates Illumination and their movies (except the first Despicable Me) their probably one of the most corporate and cynical people working in animated film world right now and there animation is extremely cheap and budget friendly sure the texturing looks nice but their animation and characters designs are beyond dull and boring, and their movies have predictable messages and stories that feel like it was written by a corporate group rather than actual artists it's just junk food entertainment for the mind, good art should respect it audiences whether it be for either kids or adults but Illumination’s movies only appeal to the lowest common denominator possible and it pisses me off that crap movies like this do well but meanwhile more creative and unique animated films only do modestly at the box office.
      Another worry I had with this film is Mario as a character because Mario is as his core a blank slate and these type characters only work in Video Games since its meant to emersed you into the experience but in movie it doesn't work since your main character has to have more personality and depth to make the film's story progress because if you don't then you're left with a film that's pretty shallow and devoid of any content.
      Another problem I had with this film was the plot was extremely simplistically and I know people are going to defend this point and say "oh its Mario the stories have always been simplistic" but this is a film not video game two completely different mediums.
      I guess I'm more critical on films than I am games because when it comes to games to a certain degree you get as much out of it as you put in but with a movie it's a more passive experience so in my mind it has to hold up to higher scrutiny.

    Thing is, when it comes to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, it does appeal more to kids in a general sense, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, especially since the movie itself is so jam-packed with references and homages to the original video game series. You can tell that this was a movie made by Mario fans for Mario fans, and their love and passion for the series shows. The only hiccup in that regard is whenever the movie uses non-Mario songs; the score itself is fantastic, faithfully adapting music from across the Mario series in fitting ways throughout the feature... but then there are non-video game songs that pop up here and there, and it just feels so bizarre and out of left field for a movie like this, though it DOES seem like the kind of thing an Illumination production would do otherwise. The "I Need a Hero" montage was fine on it's own, but when Take On Me, Mr. Blue Sky, and that one Kill Bill song played, it just felt... off. Like I was thinking to myself "why is this here?" I also thought the movie felt a bit rushed when it came to introducing characters and establishing their relationships with other characters. I would have liked more time to let the movie breath and let us get to know the characters more. It works fine enough as is, but it definitely could have been better in that regard.
    That said, I basically loved everything else. Chris Pratt didn't bother me at all as Mario, and Seth Rogen was fantastic as Donkey Kong, I loved him in the role almost as much as Jack Black as Bowser! I also REALLY loved the characters Charles Martinet played, no spoilers for who they are, but I found one of his roles to be INCREDIBLY fitting! The story is very simple, which is what I expected it to be, but there ARE a few twists that I wasn't fully expecting, even beyond Rainbow Road. Still, if you're looking for intricate and deep plots, this movie isn't for you. It's a straight-forward story of Mario, Princess Peach, Toad, and others fighting against the evil Bowser, which is all it needs to be, in my opinion.
    One last thing, and it's definitely a me thing in that regard, minor spoilers ahead: one of the first things we learned about The Super Mario Bros. Movie was that Sebastian Maniscalco would be playing "Mario and Luigi's boss" Foreman Spike. Since then, we've seen almost NOTHING of Spike in the various trailers and clips they've released. Upon seeing the movie, I can see why, because Spike's role is ultimate kind of minor, so minor that I think you could remove his scenes and nothing would change all that much. And yet not only is he in this movie, his voice actor Sebastian Maniscalco got top billing alongside the rest of the main cast (or at least alongside Keven Michael Richardson and Fred Armisen). It just feels so odd, especially given how very, very, VERY few people nowadays even knows who Foreman Spike is. The fact that they dug so deep with this guy and cast him with a good actor/comedian just goes to show how much they love everything that is Mario and wanted this to be the definitive Mario movie, and in my opinion, it worked spectacularly! I just hope this means Foreman Spike will show up in games more.
