    What ideas do you have for Paper Mario's moveset in Smash and what other characters would you like to see playable?
    Chapters
    0:00 Intro/ Overview
    2:23 Playstyle & Fighter Stats
    3:16 Special Input 1/ Spring Jump Gimmick
    4:27 Normal Attacks & Special Input 2
    7:32 Smash Attacks
    10:30 Airial Attacks
    13:48 Specials & Partner Switching Mechanic
    19:00 Final Smash
    19:29 Grab & Throws
    21:33 Shield & Dodges
    22:41 Taunts & Victory Animations
    23:39 Miscellaneous Animations
    24:37 Alternate Costumes
    25:34 Outro
    Here's 2 small details I forgot to mention.
    1) Paper Mario's idle animation can be when he's pondering with his hand to his chin like when you are selecting an action during battle.
    2) For his title/slogan which would display on the arena screen in the Punch Out stage could be "The Great Gonzales", a nickname Paper Mario earned while participating in the Glitz Pit fighting tournament in TTYD.

      Great video, I'm so glad it popped up in my recommended! I'd like to see what you'd do for either Roll or Proto Man from Mega Man or either Sans or Papyrus from Undertale!

      @@lurkathonGreat picks. A second MegaMan rep is interesting. I'd love to see Zero or Dr. Wily. We need more villains in the game.
      Undertale and Delta Rune are for sure very popular games. It would be great to see a playable character from the series.
      I'd like to see Undyne or Asgore, though Frisk or Sans/Papyrus would probably be the most likely picks.

      Thanks so much. I too would love to see this version and only this version of Paper Mario in Smash. Although, it's hard to tell if he would be balanced until seeing the moveset in action for real.
      I really would like to see him have the action command component and unique inputs although I can see how other ppl might think it's a lil too much for Smash. However, Ultimate did introduce quite a bit of new controller inputs with characters like Inkling, Steve(Shield + B), and the traditional fighter characters like Kazuya & Terry.
      I especially had fun making his throws and their little animations. The idea of Thoreau stalling the opponent in the air for back throw and up throw came to me kinda last minute but it's so badass seeing Paper Mario and his partners working together with such coordination 😆.

    I'm so glad someone else had similar ideas to me as to how Paper Mario can be represented in smash! The only thing missing from this video that would have been cool to see would have been your idea of the stage and music tracks that the man would come with.
    I really hope you do continue making videos, as I'd love to see what you come up with for Maxwell!

    • @BrokenG-String
      @BrokenG-String  3 месяца назад

      I definitely thought of including those things but felt it was unnecessary since Ultimate already includes a Paper Mario stage with some music. Ultimate's PM stage is already pretty cool including locations from some of the games with the neat transforming arts and crafts transitions.
      Another cool PM stage I'd like to see is a TTYD stage set like the ones during battles along with the audience cheering you on. Many ppl have made these cool PM stage in Ultimate's stage builder. Maybe the stage's backdrop could change too, representing some locations in the game.
      For more PM music, I'm also very biased toward adding tracks from TTYD. I love how it's more electronic/techo-like with cool synthy soundscapes. Origami King has great jazzy and live sound tracks. Sticker Star's ost is solid too being very upbeat.
      I'm a HUGE fan of video game music so I'd definitely consider including more extra bits like that for future characters I cover.
      I also would love to see Maxwell in Smash. The Scribblenauts series is great fun and there are endless possibilities for his moveset. Pizzadudemanguy thought of an interesting concept with Maxwell having an adjective applying mechanic to objects he creates. Check out his channel, he's been a big influence for me. He's one of the original smash content creators.
      I'd love to make more smash moveset videos but it took me way too much time and work to make just one. I have to focus more on other things atm but I would like to continue this series at some point. I've been writing down some move ideas for other characters I'd like to see in Smash. It's very fun.
      Anyway, sorry for the long reply. Thanks for watching!!

      Thanks, that really means a lot 😊. I really wanted to put as much love and detail as I could into Paper Mario's moveset because he is my most wanted pick for a new playable fighter in Smash.
      I hope my passion for the character and games show. My goal is similar to how Sakurai aims to make the player feel almost as if they are playing the game(s), the character originates from, but within the context of a Smash Bros. platform fighter.

    What I would see them do for the next smash, seeing as they probably won't make a smash as good as Ultimate again without Sakurai, I would rather just see them re-release Ultimate for the next console, add more stages and music, and fighters pass 3 and 4.
    And if this version of Paper Mario was added along with that, oh boy would I main this character.
    Amazing work!
    Best version of Smash Paper Mario I have ever seen :D

    • @BrokenG-String
      @BrokenG-String  3 месяца назад

      Exactly, I thought of a similar thing and yeah it would be hard to top Ultimate especially with it having the largest roster and representation of other series. The next Smash could be like what Nintendo did with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Although, if this is the case then I don't see why Sakurai wouldn't wanna direct the project since the team wouldn't be starting from scratch with most of the game already being finished. Sakurai always says he's done with Smash but always ends up coming back 😄. He's dedicated to his creation 🎮.
      I would also absolutely love to see this version of Paper Mario in Smash. For some reason though, I'm afraid if he does get in that he would be a watered down version mostly including stuff from the most recent games which would be a huge bummer imo. The release and success of the TTYD Remake however gives me hope that Nintendo hasn't forgotten about the classic Paper Mario experience.

      Glad you enjoyed the video. I agree that they would still release a new smash even without Sakurai. Many ppl especially speculate that the series could be rebooted with a much smaller refined roster and new mechanics.
      Hopefully someone can make this Paper Mario moveset as a Smash Ultimate mod at the very least. I'll be talking to some modders on Gamebanana very soon to see if it would be possible to create.

    The parry could be when he folds into a thin piece of paper

    • @BrokenG-String
      @BrokenG-String  2 месяца назад +1

      @@Eydri_ Great idea! I considered this as well especially bcuz this move is used in Super Paper Mario to make Mario invincible while he remains stationary.
      I was instead gonna include this "paper thin mode" in his moveset as his turn around animation. I thought it would be really funny if ppl used this as a defensive tech where if he continuously turns around, he can remain really thin, which would shrink his hurt box, making it harder for opponents to hit him. This tech would essentially work like dash dancing but instead of running back and forth, the player is rapidly turning around in place 😆.
      I have another scrapped idea regarding the other "paper tube mode" which would have been another defensive tech to shrink Mario's hurt box. The tube mode would be activated using a special input identical to Inkling/Steve (Shield + B). While in this tube mode you could freely roll around and jump like you can in TTYD but there would be no hitbox. To get out of this tube form, you would press the B/ special button and getting hit would also cancel the move.
      I decided not to include these ideas in the video bcuz I felt it was a bit overkill with all the gimmicks I introduced 😅. At least these paper forms are used in other areas of his moveset like his roll and victory animation.
      Anyway, thanks for watching!! 😊

      Thanks for pointing that out. Yup, I too realized after the fact that I forgot to add the box art of the game in the intro screen displaying all the games. To be fair, it technically isn't a Paper Mario game but instead a crossover of a Mario & Luigi title.

    My only problem with this is that the set is overly gimmicky

    • @BrokenG-String
      @BrokenG-String  3 месяца назад

      Perhaps that is the case. I can understand why you would think that. What specific gimmicks do you not agree with? Personally, I love characters with a lot of depth and advanced techniques.
      Imo, the gimmicks I really don't like which are present in several of Ultimate's characters are comeback mechanics which lazily just power-up up all of the character's moves or allow them to use an extremely hard hitting move which could decide the game. Some of these characters with such gimmicks include Joker's Arsene, Sephiroth's winged form, Little Mac's K.O. punch, Lucario's aura, Kazuya's demon form, and more.... Anyway, you get the point. I think these are very annoying gimmicks that reward the fighter for getting hit as opposed to fighting with intention and accuracy. These mechanics can often times be abused and delete stocks very easily even if they might already be in the lead.
      Hopefully, the gimmicks I presented in Paper Mario's moveset feel fun, fair, and encourage the player to play him in creative ways. As a big Smash Bros. Melee fan, I love how many of the game's characters allow for creative expression and it's so interesting to see ppl push a character's potential with newly discovered techniques and precise play. A great example of this is aMSa's revolutionary Yoshi in Melee.
      For Paper Mario's moveset, his main gimmick is being rewarded for timing his iconic action commands during his nair/dair, throws, and utilizing his new spring jump and super hammer inputs. I also tried limiting his projectiles so that he is forced to use them strategically unlike many other characters in Ultimate who can easily spam projectiles the whole match without any real second thought or penalty. His toolkit is mostly designed for excelling in his combo game with many ways to start and continue combos. However, this all comes with his glaring downsides like easily being K.O.'d and having a poor recovery.
      One gimmick off the top of my head that I would be fine with removing is up air sharing Inkling's paint mechanic. What other gimmicks would you remove/ change for this moveset?
      Thanks for watching!!

    • @Boring_Man-zu4el
      @Boring_Man-zu4el 3 месяца назад

      @@BrokenG-String it’s mainly the timing ones, like it does fit him most but no one has something like it and probably never will

    • @BrokenG-String
      @BrokenG-String  3 месяца назад

      hmm... one character that resembles some sort of similar timing mechanic is with Incineroar's side b command grab that has 3 different outcomes depending on when you press the attack (A) button. I didn't mention it in the video but I got some inspiration from that move for sure. This can definitely work similarly during Paper Mario's throws, landing those timed action commands (A presses).
      Also, Paper Mario bouncing off with nair/dair could work exactly like the Funky Kong mod shown in the Beefy Smash Doods' clip. For that well done mod, Funky Kong's dair let's him bounce off other opponents up to 3 times until he lands on stage which is perfectly designed imo.
      I definitely don't want Paper Mario having some busted Bayonetta type combos where he drags opponents to the top of the screen in one go 😅. That's kinda why I mentioned in the video that his nair/dair sends opponents at an arch angle, up and away from Mario, making it possible for opponents to DI (directional influence) away and attempt to escape his combos.
      Hope that makes sense.

    Not that I disagree with the video, but here's a better idea: Give Paper Mario a brand new game in his series, one that would do unique things with him. Putting him in Smash Bros. wouldn't be that special.

      Nice idea! It would be cool to come up with ideas of new mechanics, storylines, locations, and more for a potential new Paper Mario game.
      I personally love imagining how characters from all types of video games can translate into Smash as a playable fighter within the context of a platform fighter. I would imagine many others would love to see Paper Mario playable in Smash too.
      Originally I planned on making this channel all about smash bcuz it's a series I've loved since I could remember but lately I've been thinking about making a video on what the future of Mario Kart could look like. As for your last comment. I don't ever plan on doing lets play or walkthroughs. That's kind of boring and lazy imo no offense to those who do it.
