I'm very excited to see the Super Mario movie this weekend with my brother. We've been lifelong Mario fans since Super Mario 64. Thank you for all of the amazing Mario memories throughout the years, Miyamoto-san.
With every reveal and interview, the more excited I get about this movie. Was VERY apprehensive at first that Illumination was chosen but I also knew that Nintendo wouldn't allow their most valuable IP to be tarnished with a below-average movie. Not to mention, going with a smaller newer studio (and not Disney, Dreamworks or Pixar) avoids the issue of Nintendo having to put with extensive executive meddling - the bigger the studio, the more heads you answer to. Looking forward to this adventure!
Saw the movie yesterday. Been building up to watching it for almost 40 years. I've played just about every (mainline) Mario game ever released to 100% completion. And now I can't wait to see more Nintendo franchise movies from Universal and Illumination!
As a 40 year old man who grew up with Mario games, with my 4 years son, we had a blast with this movie! Thanks for this tribute to Mario and Nintendo, Mr. Miyamoto!
I watched the Mario movie and it's DEFINITELY made for the fans! Best video game movie adaptation ever! No "re-imaginings" for the "modern audience". It's purely made for people who love Mario, which just happens to be almost everyone in this world! This is why this new Mario movie is such a huge success! It gives the fans what they want! Very beautifully animated, very funny, very cute, and most of all, very action packed! I hope there would be a sequel and I also hope this Mario movie would encourage more Nintendo games like Zelda and Metroid to be turned into movies as well! Let this be a lesson to all future movie makers. Focus on what the fans want and you'll succeed!
Miyamoto is the main reason that i am studying to be a designer. He created this mario franchise, which opened up so many people's hearts, including myself and yes, i am mario obsessed. Been playing it since i was a kid, grew up with it. I remember when nintendo came up with the ds xD. I would be obsessed with that just bc of the mario games lol. But mario doesn't lessen our minds, mario opens our eyes to a whole new world, filled with creativity and puzzle solving skills. Its not like your typical minecraft or roblox(those are great games), but mario, well, its fun for literally everyone. Everyone and anyone can play it. Its a universal game that deserves all the love(i'll forever give it my love).

The amount of Mario stuffs that the Illumination team had gave us in the Mario movie is really great. The human characters were stylized just as it should : Mario-esque artstyle, no off-putting/clashing artstyle like the random Odyssey human NPCs. The world-building was also great since a lot of Mario IPs were culminated into one world, and they also included Brooklyn for Mario's homeworld. Man I grew up with Mario , this was the only game I ever played on Nintendo and Super Nintendo . Thank you Shigeru Miyamoto with your team for making my childhood such a great experience. Although this movie is for these kids generation but I enjoyed it
The movie was AWESOME AND AMAZING!!! The musical score throughout that echoes so much of the games' soundtracks and themes made so much emotion rise in my heart.
It was the 3rd generation of video games (read: Famicom/NES) that really defined and elevated video games. And Shigeru Miyamoto to me is like the Stan Lee figure of video games as a medium. I'll always love Nintendo as much as I love Disney. They both gave me fantastic childhood.
It's probably a translation error or something but I hope Miyamoto doesn't think of the Super Show as a failure, Captain Lou Albano and Danny Wells' portrayals of Mario and Luigi as well as all the other actors and their characters are so iconic and really gave so much personality to the characters that wasn't in the games yet. It was so funny and well made and a huge part of mine and a lot of my friends childhoods. The Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo movie was... unique
For reference, he never said anything about it being a failure and he never actually mentioned anything about the previous Mario movies/shows. He was talking about how there are shows/movies out there where the characters are "distant" (i.e. different) from their original counterparts. He mentioned that he didn't want that to happen with this movie. It was definitely a personal bias of the video editor that they put those images on screen at that point in time.
I do think he meant the 1993 movie being a failure since that's the most obvious case, Variety probably just included a picture of the Super Show since Nintendo had little to do with it production wise.
@@KoutetsuSteel Him saying the old adaptations were "distant" is probably just a nice way of saying they weren't good, especially since they say things indirectly in Japanese all the time

I can't help but smile when ever I see Miyamoto
Saw the movie yesterday. Been building up to watching it for almost 40 years. I've played just about every (mainline) Mario game ever released to 100% completion. And now I can't wait to see more Nintendo franchise movies from Universal and Illumination!
Miyamotos last response reminds me of a grandpa doing his best not to spoil a surprise.
I would also love to learn how to design games but dont know how or where to start
start by taking a program. Google does have some great online programs. Its 6 months long but you do real projects which is great to add in your designer portfolio and with that portfolio, maybe you'll get a game designing job :). The google programs are on coursera. @@SueleymanGkblt
I just saw the film. It's amazing. Mario was my first game so it was a breath of fresh air to see how good this movie was. Just as good as the recent Sonic movies.
But Sonic movies were boring trash
@@dis_inferno9173 no they were not. The Mario movie was great. SJW's just complain because the movie didn't have some lame feminist message. It was just a movie about the Mario bros. Also what was so bad about the Sonic movies?! They were great and broke box office records.
@@yourstruly9978 Mario Movie is good, Sonic Movies were garbage. It's just were terrible movies.
@@dis_inferno9173 your opinion. Also you give no reason as to why the movie is bad you just say it's bad. Ya know what nevermind. I don't care what you think anymore. Bye.
@@yourstruly9978 I like both Mario movie and the Sonic movies.
Mario Movie: It actually sticked to the source materials to the games. Old and modern
Sonic Movie: The plot is more modernized than the games, but the plot and the characters are enjoyable. Also Jim Carrey killed it as Eggman
So happy for Miyamoto and Koji Kondo! Pretty surreal seeing the videos of them on the red carpet at the premiere
I think this easily belongs to Top 10 animated movies of 2023.
Shigeru Miyamoto is a national treasure.
He is international treasure
@@fajaradi1223 true!
NOPE HES WORLDWIDE TREASURE
I dread the day when he either retires or dies, because Nintendo will never be the same after that. It will be such a massive blow to the company.
I hope this teaches Miyamoto that story is still important, even in video games
He def hasn’t forgotten, wtf
he knows.
@@juliansalazar7097 tell that to paper mario.
Yeah, nope. The subtitle say "Nintendo's focus" but in Japanese the man is talking about his own priorities and focus which is naturally not story.
Edit: He says "Boku no" which means "My" instead of "Nintendo's" priority for those who hard of hearing or believing.
@@ArynBacklogDragon wdym? the stories are fire in paper mario.
Miyamoto is one of the GOATs!!! Thank god Chris and his team at Illumination delivered hard on this film. Enjoyed every second of it, down to the references to the cleanliness of the animation to the story
This movie is once in a lifetime experience, for one the hype building up to this has been amazing! The PR and marketing from the plumbing website to the Mario Bros. Van has been astounding! I can’t wait to see this movie!
Ikr?
Feminazi Peach, Bleah.
"Once in a lifetime"
Calm down there dude.. There's going to be sequels.
Man I grew up with Mario , this was the only game I ever played on Nintendo and Super Nintendo . Thank you Shigeru Miyamoto with your team for making my childhood such a great experience. Although this movie is for these kids generation but I enjoyed it
Mr Miyamoto, thank you for everything you have done for the world.
Future Nintendo Directs will have a new Mario game?? Oh heck yeah! This is going to be awesome
I think is going to be a 2D mario game

You can tell how passionate Miayamoto is, he’s amazing!
He's 70 years old and he's just getting started.
相変わらず 人の喜びと 笑いをもらった 宮本さん ありがとうございます!まだまだ マリオの進化止めないですね
Miyamoto is truly living life to the fullest! The Mario movie is breaking multiple box office records for an animated film !
The movie was AWESOME AND AMAZING!!! The musical score throughout that echoes so much of the games' soundtracks and themes made so much emotion rise in my heart.
I'm not sure I've ever heard Miyamoto speak in english! Very cool to hear that in the intro.
This interview was fantastic. Super revealing and interesting insightful; way more than the cast interviews.
This guy make childhood come reality 🙏🏻
I LOVE MIYAMOTO SO MUCH!!!! Thank you for being awesome
OUR modern day Walt Disney there will never be another Miyamoto absolute genius
My kids (6 & 8) and my wife and I all LOVED this movie!!! Going to see it again!!
Miyamoto is my biggest inspiration in life.
It was the 3rd generation of video games (read: Famicom/NES) that really defined and elevated video games. And Shigeru Miyamoto to me is like the Stan Lee figure of video games as a medium. I'll always love Nintendo as much as I love Disney. They both gave me fantastic childhood.
Miyamoto is and always is going to be my inspiration and idol for all my life
Thank you very much. That was the perfect way to deliver the Mario movie that his fans deserved.
What a wonderful man and a wonderful theme. Thank you Miyamoto
We have come this far brothers. Lets enjoy this moment
@@Charles12 Just to be clear, he didn't actually say anything about it being a failure. He never said anything similar to those words.
@@KoutetsuSteel Him saying the old adaptations were "distant" is probably just a nice way of saying they weren't good, especially since they say things indirectly in Japanese all the time
@@KoutetsuSteel To quote Miyamoto - “I think that we were both fearful of was the failure of past IP adaptations, where there’s a distance between the original creators and the creators of the films.” He never specifically said which he was referring to, but you would have to guess he meant the '93 movie because that's the most obvious.
Miyamoto-San is not a video game designer. He is an artist who tells stories through video games.
"And the first memory that I have is of my son coming to visit me in the office and exposing him"
Seen it twice already and loved it both times! Look forward to the potentiality of more stories down the line!
This is the movie that parents deserved back in the 90s.

Why the fuck is it so important to you to put a woman in chains
Oh my God thank her so much for asking that final question! Yes!
Here’s to hoping that the movie is insanely good and illumination learns what their audience likes, so they can make really good movies
I was initially pretty worried about Illumination doing this movie, but it’s clear they really knew and respected the IP they were working with.
Illumination has been lost for many years from the charm their original films had, I think they’re taking massive steps in the right direction currently. Especially with this nee Super Mario movie. I am very proud of them for taking off their childish, corporate facade and wanting to please the real animation enthusiasts.
I mean the animators even confirmed in the direct that they upgraded their lighting equipment for the shots in the movie
I never thought they lost their charm. Maybe in one or two movies but that’s expected of any film company. So when I heard illumination was gonna make the Mario movie, I knew they wouldn’t disappoint, and I was right 😊
Rise of Gru was amazing and I usually HATE prequels with a burning passion!! That made ALMOST A BILLION!! Mario will hopefully top it!!
You can tell Miyamoto-san is and has always been a young child working on his creation and enjoying the ride all along.
I've heard some negative things about the narrative but I'm somewhat hyped.
A little less hyped than before seeing reviews but it's mostly positive and I think I'll have a great time with the movie.
This is where I am at though I could care less what the “professional” critics think.
0:38 imagine sitting next to the guy who can answer the question "what is your first mario memory" with the first time he thought of the character.
Seeing the Nintendo opening splash screen at this movie , made me feel like my childhood was coming alive .
Seeing Miyamoto-San in interviews for Hollywood is equally as strange and awesome .
Man I can't believe Miyamoto is 70 I fear we are running out of time with him on this earth I hope he lives to see 100
Oh wow, did he just tease a new Mario game for the next Nintendo Direct? Looking forward to it! Also, I wish they would make another Mario Maker.
A 3d Mario maker with 64, galaxy, and Odyssey gameplay would be insane. Doubt they would do that though

That is a rare thing.
I call bs on how they hired voice talent.. they got the biggest name recognition they could that fit well enough

With the way he explains how he wants mario to be it does makes sense now why Chris Pratt got the role.
