  • Ken Ham and his team have a bi-weekly "news" show, reacting to the news stories of the day from a Christian young-earth creation perspective from the Answers in Genesis staff at his Creation Museum.
Aron Ra, Eric Murphy took a break from the 2019 Ark Encounter protest to join Ken, Avery and Bodie as they discuss - Mayflies detected on radar; Florist punished by Washington named Best for 2019; Pastor expelled over marriage; Bishop declares God is female; NASA to search for life's beginnings and more during today's episode of Answers News, broadcast live from the Creation Museum.

@@pirateman1144 piling on here: I’d have to say that those examples are definitely from not reading.
For example, I pronounced ‘ego’ like eggo (like waffles) and ‘naïveté’ like ‘nive-ette” for the longest time.
I’d postulate that if the word is still recognizable as being an alternative pronunciation to the correct spelling, **that’s** when you can confidently assume that it’s a “read vs heard” situation.
If instead the mispronunciation ignores obvious letters or can’t be easily understood as the intended word (ax, pacific, pasketti, etc) that’s more likely to be a mis-hear than a mis-read.

As someone who was a homeschool kid, I can confirm that one of the major reasons I was homeschooled was to keep me away from being taught about evolution. So that we could be properly indoctrinated, basically. The good news is, it didn’t work. Lol! Also, it actually worked out well for me, education wise. If you ignore how misinformed I was about biology, geology, and history. But I was a math major, so I turned out fine. Lol! I’m just learning all the things that were kept from me after the fact.

  • @88eyeguy

I'm so glad that, as a homeschooled kid, my parents saw education as an avenue to teach me how to learn and think critically rather than pure indocrination. Granted, they assumed I would end up agreeing with their Christian views, but they were at least intellectually honest in giving me the tools to to make up my own mind.

What people don't understand the reason why there's so many different flood legends around the world is because flash flooding and floods are some of the most common natural disasters. In my hometown of Columbus Ohio. On the Near Westside it's called the Bottoms. Because that part of Columbus was built on a floodplain. The native Americans would avoid building permanent settlements in that area. Up until the dam was built in the late 1950s.There was a major flood on the Westside of Columbus on average every 10 years. The worst occurring in 1913 in terms of loss of life. Anywhere between 93 to 106 people were killed.

    • @Ugly_German_Truths
      @Ugly_German_Truths 5 лет назад +5

They also forget that throughout history water was so important for both drinking and travelling in the more primitive societies that it formed literally the life veins of every important ancient civilisation and the core of all settlements... humans go for oasis, rivers, coastal regions where food, drink and trade opportunities are plentyful.
And where you have lots of water for the good, it can just as easily turn for the worse... either through drought (lots of legends about that too) or flood. If the only thing basically any human society EVER has in common is the need for readily available water, what will be the only stories they will all share? Ones about making more humans (childbirth, love, violence born from disagreement who got to be with which woman) and ones about water being the thing bringing the rise and downfall of civilisations... You can learn that even in homeschooling (not that i was homeschooled, it's very rare in Germany as we have mandatory attendance laws)

I'm with Aron, we don't have time or luxury of "taking the high road" or "being courteous", and neither does the earth!
I grew up homeschooled & raised by delusional religious-obsessed family, punished in physically & emotionally abusive ways for not being faithful enough, not obeying in godly ways, not memorizing scriptures fast enough, etc. I am permanently stunted in social, emotional & financial ways because of the sheltered, anti-reality environment I grew up in (& am still trapped in.)
I am dying of poverty & easily treatable illnesses because my huge extended, middle & upper-middle, healthy, widely religious family ALL have less empathy & compassion & common sense than I do!! Because of MY REALITY being too uncomfortable for them to acknowledge, my mother will sit by right across the road from me & watch me die of terminal heart failure, rather than even discuss my options or any future I may have!
After everyone in my family got support starting their lives, opening businesses, completing college, and all family except me & my mother & grandmother moved all over the country just for the fuck of it, I am the one told "sorry, sucks to be you!" Because moving to save my life is not a reason they can accept!!
The fact is, that 'small group of fanatical Christians' is rapidly growing & becoming even more insane & deluded, and we invisible, alone, humanist free-thinkers who have nobody to trust or fight for us, are going to die alone, because of the delusions & willful ignorance of others....

Wish I had been here for the premier darnit! Love the video, and the side-chat had a great time.
When Aron explains why the Japanese don't have a flood legend, I almost spit coffee on the keyboard lol.
I'm still torn on GayWeddingCakeGate. As a businessperson I reserve the right to refuse to serve anyone for any reason. As a gay atheist I want an ideal world where such a thing just *couldn't* occur. As a consumer, why would I not just spread the word about a place I wouldn't want to patronize anyway? We've done the latter in my small town with success, a coffee shop whose owners made their homophobia known, apparently not realizing that GSMR "families" aren't just their partners, but parents, siblings, in-laws, friends, co-workers....they were out of business within 3 months.
I will take exception to one thing: colloquially, "y'all" can be either singular or plural in some areas of the South. Doesn't make sense, I know, but it's so.

Aron brings up a great point about artists. I am an illustrator, and definitely one who takes commisions, but recently a Christian friend of mine asked me to illustrate a children's book that she had written. I have never discussed my atheism with her, and the idea of doing a book that was possibly promoting religion, was something that I couldn't do, as I believe it would put more harm into the world. I was able to decline, without it being a big deal, but the situation made me think of the news stories involving Christians, and how it could be considered a grey area.

While I am impressed that you had either the ingenuity to find a mechanical solution, or the patience to type that out with your adorable danger-noodle snoot, your chemistry seems like it may need work. The iron in your blood is part of an organometallic complex, and is thus part of an organic molecule. The sodium ions in your blood are inorganic, however.
