    Players always say how impenetrable Djokovic is from the baseline, but my god does this video prove that. Just such consistent depth on his shots and he never misses. Murray's only chances were when Nole came to the net and Andy didn't make the most of those. Just ruthless. I was exhausted just watching this. Makes you realize how hard guys like Fed Rafa and Stan must've been crushing the ball just to get it by Djoker.

  • @jikan-tabi-1888
    @jikan-tabi-1888 5 месяцев назад +15

    One major reason Andy did not win more slams is due to his lack of agression. He can rally with the best of them but he was rarely offensive-minded against the Big 3. That's why he only has 3 slams vs 5/6.

  • @danmeadowsmusic
    @danmeadowsmusic 6 лет назад +97

    They are near identical players, Djokovic is just better in most regards. Murray's a better slicer/volleyer but that's about it, doesn't have the power on either wing nor the ball placement of Djoker

    • @zizou357
      @zizou357 5 лет назад +10

      I would say that Murray's cross court - backhand had a bit more power than Djokovic. It was extremly good back in the days..

    • @sidhanthmishra8488
      @sidhanthmishra8488 5 лет назад +1

      After backer came on board Novak's second serve, slice backhand and volleys improved tremendously. He is as good as Murray now though Murray hits the ball even more flat on his BH side

    • @Sanjinator1
      @Sanjinator1 5 лет назад +6

      Murray had more power on both wings, the problem is he couldn't always control it as he isn't capable of generating enough spin so is forced to play within himself most of the time. I believe he has the biggest shots of the top 4 apart from maybe Rafa's FH when he fully flattens it out. Peak Fed's FH too (before the more spin oriented stroke from 08 onwards) comes pretty close but imo it's still a fraction behind Rafa and Murray's biggest bombs.

    • @joddle23
      @joddle23 4 года назад +6

      I think Murray is quite a bit better at net. The only problem is with both Murray and Djokovic being baseliners it doesn't make much of a difference

    When I was younger and clueless, I thought this match was boring. Now that I know more about tennis, I look at this match, and in retrospective man, this match was insane. People with tennis knowledge know this final was great. I mean, that 2nd set is one of the best in Grand Slams.
    Murray really tried, he was really aggressive, forcing Djokovic to play some meters behind the baseline.
    But Novak was just better. His returns were too much for Murray's game.

      Federer is so unlucky that Djokovic just happened to play what might have been the best match of his career against him in the semifinals, Djokovic played nowhere near the same level in the final, but it was still plenty good enough to beat Murray, who wasn't playing too badly himself. If Federer met this Djokovic, it would have been a much closer and more competitive match that could have gone either way.

      Henny Huang It was also just a much better match. Djokovic was playing arguably the best match of his career (with Doha 2016 final as a close second.) Yet Federer still managed to fight back in that third set to take one from him. It was a very high quality match, and Roger was unlucky to face an incredibly strong Djokovic, otherwise the scoreline would have been tighter. This match, in comparison, is dull. There's no energy. Neither of them were playing particularly well.
      Federer would have stomped Murray in straights, like he has in the past few years
      Federer would have had a very solid chance versus Djokovic if he played like he did here in the final, rather than how he played in the semis.

  • @erikpate8370
    @erikpate8370 6 лет назад +24

    Murray’s game simply lacks variety in terms of angles shot selection. He seems content to just push the ball down the middle of the court and relies on his consistency.

    Murray has a better backhand here but djokovic's fitness was on top and when murray needed a forehand he couldnt thread it but otherwise similarly great exchanges and the fitness won.

      No Djokovic is better in every area compared to murray.Big 3 in different league in terms of talent and achievement.Murray despite being talented than Medvedev and co couldn't stop them at his prime.

    Rafa past his prime vs Roger past his prime in AO2017 was a much better final than these two in their prime years. Something about this match up that ruins tennis in my opinion.

      Ahora dilo sin llorar. El "no mejor" Djokovic te aseguro que le ha ganado mas de 10 veces al mejor Federer y al mejor Nadal, no diga idioteces si no sabe, Nole es un excelente tenista y si rcupera pronto su motivación va camino a ser el mejor tenista de la historia con el correr de los años teniendo en cuenta su edad. Hasta ahora Federer es el mejor pero Djokovic es mucho mejor que Nadal

    Murray in the first two sets just pats the ball back to Djokovic as if he's already given up 😂 No intent to win other than finally in the 3rd set he shows some aggression and keeps it alive until grandly choking in the tie break. How does this guy even get to the finals playing this kind of 'pat the ball back to the opponent kind of tennis' all the time.. SMH

    • @ertugrulkorpinar51
      @ertugrulkorpinar51 7 лет назад

      MrPatrickbuit What i would like to see from Murray in this matchup is the hard backhand cross court into, he should trade cross court backhand exchanges with djokovic. As a change up he should play deep to the Centre and quickly look to jump for that hard cross court backhand or move him side side by taking the balk early . Can change up things even more by coming in after the backhand.

    • @MrPatrickbuit
      @MrPatrickbuit 7 лет назад

      Ertugrul Körpinar Look, we can sit out here and discuss what Murray should and shouldn't do, but do you really think a team of at least 5 professional coaches couldn't come up with an ideal gameplan? I'm sure he has the idea, it's just very difficult to executre.

    I'm so puzzled... I'm a Fed fan coming back here because I'm stuck on what the hell happened to Djokovic. I'm trying to pick out the differences between him in 2017 and him here. He definitely isn't missing as much as he is this year, almost not at all. But I think it is his confidence... Not sure though.

    • @MrPatrickbuit
      @MrPatrickbuit 7 лет назад

      He definitely has a lot less depth on his shots. His movement is less fluid, and he's far less consistent.

    Andy is a really boring player to watch. In addition, he is surly and is always yelling at himself so I just see him as unlikeable. He mixes up his trajectory, spins, angles and waits for you to make a mistake. He rarely attacks and tries to hit winners. You can't play that way against Djokovic. He is too good defensively. Andy is a great mover but Novak is the best on tour. That said...Djokovic vs. Murray matches are typically boring. I agree....
