  • In this video I use the Launch OBD2 Scanner tool (X431, CRP123X) to reset the oil service light. Normally the oil system can be reset by turning on the ignition, don't start enging, and press the accelerator 3 times, then switch off ignition. This process has worked in the past, but recently the oil service light remained on.
I purchased the OBD2 scanner from eBay. This device is pre-programmed and will work with many different models of cars. It also includes free lifetime updates.

Many of the scanner tools can only read codes but not reset the oil service light, the Launch scanner is able to do this and is priced well for around $200 AUD.

I purchased a Holden scanning tool for $250 from China. Gives you GDS2 functionality so you have full native access to everything in the car.
I'm not trying to advertise it. It's just that i spent a few hundred on other generic scanners and lots of headache trying to make them work with the car.
For example i tried doing a throttle calibration and of course the old tool failed halfway through. So i was left with a potentially dangerous throttle programming.

The service warning light only stays on for a couple of minutes after the car is started or the ignition is on. Doesn't stay on permanently like a check engine light.
