I have some leftover fabric from a pillow sham project and I was thinking an A-line skirt might actually be a fun think to make with it, and I knew it'd be a few simple cuts, but I was stuck on the geometry. Using the hip measurements was the missing piece in my brain for this to make sense. Also using a 2 inch slant off the bottom hem is a heck of a lot easier than breaking out a french curve stencil, which was my original plan.

You use the hip measurement to cut the waist, and slant the bottom part how you want.
