CF Martin co. is still making guitars of equal or even greater tonal value these days in terms of wood used with prices upwards of $10k for a new D-45, $50k for a vintage D-45 from 1932 and $125k for D-200 Delux. Just because we are in the year 2022, doesn’t mean the company has lost its standards over the last 152 years since that 1870 was made. Infact they actually got better as Luthier work and tooling has evolved and progressed. And although wood sourcing has changed from using Brazilian Rose wood in the 1960’s to indian Rose wood and become more and more expensive, there is a reason these guitars cost an insane amount these days. They are using only the best they can source, and infact actually used mohogany or spruce for backs and sides in the early years with hardwood veneer so I would argue very early martins were not as quality of wood as when they switched to Rosewoods for the backs and sides later, be it Brazilian or Indian. And always using different species of spruce tops through the years.

Sad it had to go like that after living for almost 150 years
Also it’s not even just how old it was, it’s the quality. People today, even with modern tooling and technology, can’t recreate the quality and sound of PreWar Martin Guitars. They are exceptional items, they’re not just some old guitar. It’s like smashing a Rembrandt for no other reason than to get a “genuine” reaction out of the actress. Well how long is he supposed to grieve over a broken guitar, the rest of his life?
He doesn't know anything about guitars (I'm just stating the obvious) and at first he probably thought he broke a one of a kind piece of history. By this point he probably learned that it wasn't really anything special, and that there is still an abundance of those guitars. You can buy an 1875 Martin for about $5,000.
@@TheMrModders You can't buy a museum quality Martin from 1975 for 5 grand, let alone 1875. You are delusional. The whole thing was a stunt. There’s absolutely no reason whatsoever for that guitar to be on set. Authenticity isn’t an issue in this day and age. I bet if you dug deeper you’d find the answer.
The answer is that Quentin is just kind of a jerk. Lol. He makes good films(most of the time) but he’ll take things too far if he thinks it’ll make for a “genuine” reaction. This is exactly why you don't put anything valuable in the actor's hands actors are literally children who are good at pretending to be other people they really don't know much about the world around them just look at that 1 guy who shot someone cause he didn't even have the presence of mind to check if a gun was loaded they really got to stop giving these actors real stuff. Why on Earth would you use a 145 year old guitar as a prop. As someone who plays the guitar and collects them that honestly broke my heart to hear how that guitar went out. It definitely deserved better than that.
Well there are people on set that get paid specifically to make sure things like expensive antiques getting smashed or people getting shot doesn't happen. If everyone did THEIR job and stop relying on others to do it for them then it would be a lot smoother huh? Accidents happen though, can't be perfect %100 of the time. Never even attempted to take away from the priceless nature of the guitar by commenting what I did lol. And actually meant my comment as praise to the actual make of the guitar
Now as for your comment on wood and whatnot, you are mistaken.
