I can't wait to do this! Hi everybody from SW Ohio! May 20, 2020
@@RP-wf7el east central ohio. You know I wonder about dry canning this for a couple hours after it cools. It might preserve it just a little longer as you would then get an airtight seal.
I'm 73, I grew up on a dairy farm and we canned everything from our garden. Canning has just not been my thing and dehydrating appeals to me in so many ways. It's minimal labor, the dehydrator does the work while I run my painting business, and it preserves the enzymes in the food!! It can be stored anywhere and takes up less space! Win win win!!!
Wow! Donna!
Yes, dehydrating sounds a whole lot less exhausting and quicker to execute than powering through the learning curve of canning. My next big purchase is a decent dehydrator now that my canned / pantry stores are at comfort-for-now levels. Dehydrating is a great alternative for a busy or lazy person (of which I am a bit of both). lol
Donna you should take a look at harvest rite freeze dryer. I purchased one and it took me about 6 months to break even on it. I have been using it for 4 years now and I love it . I have not got my big dehydrator off the shelf for 3 years now.
please please please make more dehydrator videos! love them.
Finally a video that has the dehydrated and hydrated process. Thank you! Great video!
Thank you . I didn't know you could dehydrate ground beef .
You can probably use an attachment for a vacuum sealer to get the air out of the jars. For those wondering.
Rain Country makes a cost effective vacuum sealer chamber that will do quart size jars on down. It will seal some non mason jars also. Heidi has videos on Patrick's sealer.
You can buy a special lid cover and either use a vacuum sealer or even a brake bleeder I use a brake bleeder and do it by hand takes 2 mins to seal the jar
Christy, That was a wonderful tutorial! Such a great idea!
Thanks so much for this. I am always looking for ways to store food outside my freezer. This will work great for my teenagers to have their favorite tacos after school. Love it.
What a great new channel I've found. Thanks for your videos, theyre great!
Love seeing the dehydrating videos and look forward to more.
Love your vids. You come across as a friendly next door neighbor. Great info.
Waving hi from TN! Thank you for your video!!! You gave all the information needed without a lot of useless chatter. When I bought my first dehydrator, I quickly became addicted to dehydrating and now have 4 machines, each having 9 trays, so ... I now have 36 trays to play with!! LOVE dehydrating, as it not only allows me to dry food, but I'm able to take advantage of sales!!! Again, thank you! I will be doing this tomorrow. Excellent video. New subscriber.
Dehydrate is one way, pressure canning is my choice. When rehydrating use a gently spiced brine...yum
O M G I just founder Channel and I love it. thank you so much for making these videos I don't have a dehydrator but I'm going to get one. I am a very proud owner of a food saver that I love. I appreciate you and the work that you doing thanks again. PS your Southern smile is beautiful.
I'm so glad you did the meat. I've been wanting to try this
I did this about 3 years ago, but I boiled mine. I got two products from one. Hamburger rocks and beef broth! The broth was very good!
So you boiled ground beef and then used the 'broth' for beef broth? Did you dehydrate that too?
@@thatandthese no, I canned the broth.
Oh my word!! I just found your channel! I'm so excited to try this! Thank you, thank you, thank you! God Bless.
Ditto!
Thank you for sharing this very informative video. I will be dehydrating some ground beef.
HI we back to making for the future . Pulling out the bottom tray to catch the little pieces is brilliant TY .
Shared it! I think this is a great space saver in a crowded kitchen.
Just found your channel, new subscriber. Thanks for keeping it simple
Good video, I have been dehydrating since the 90's and its great, they work. We purchased a freeze dryer 5 years ago and that was the best money I spent and we have lots of long term food storage now, that my family can enjoy
My mom use to do beef jerky out of London Broil. We loved it.
Today I made my first batch ever and it is lounging away in my new Dehydrator. I selected your review after watching many. I did not have a cutting/tamper device so I cooked everything, then used my blender on pulse/chop to reduce the size of the hamburger bits. I think it will work fine, they looked about the size of yours. Anyway, I liked the experience and am looking forward to the completed project in a few more hours. Thanks for the clear instructions. I am liking going back to preserving my foods again. Funny how life can take us full circle...
this would be awesome to do in those meals in a jar. You could do a chili one easy with the beef, dried beans, spices, dried tomatoes. Then just put it in a slow cooker add water and tomato sauceLove the dehydrating videos keep them up. Great job.
That does sound really great but you may want to double check starting off with dried kidney beans. I think I remember a warning somewhere about really have to cook them down and wash them off or they could make you sick. Not 100 % sure. Just didn't want you to get a bad surprise. Good luck and happy dehydrating !!
@@blackberry5447 You can also dehydrate the cooked beans. That shortens the cook time.
This is awesome. I will definitely be trying this.
Just found you and... LOVE LOVE LOVE your videos!!!!
Prices from 2014 are looking a lot better than 2020! This this really helpful information. I’m interested in learning to dehydrate foods beyond fruits and vegetables.
Never thought you could do this!
It's a few days away from 2020 and beef prices are extreme. In N/E Texas, beef prices are to the point that markdown meat is higher in price than full price in '18. This video, though 5 years old, is still very relevant and greatly appreciated.
AND A YEAR LATER STILL GOING UP WITH NO END IN SIGHT!
The easiest process explanation on YT, I just subbed and waiting on my small round dehydrator. I hope I did not waste my money by going with a smaller unit. It had same high temp as 165° but it was only 450 watts and I’m gearing everything towards solar power. Thanks.
Lower wattage equals longer dehydrating times. Fan in back gives better air circulation. Fan on bottom can get liquids from food. Fan on top & fan on bottom benefit from tray rotation. God bless.
Thanks for all your hard work.... Thanks for getting to the point and your detail information. Great video.New Subscriber.
Did the veggies then ground them up... Crazy. Five pounds frozen mixed veggies reduced to half a peanut butter jar.
Love your videos. It's made me preserve more than I ever have. Can I do this in my oven?
Loved the video. Thanks. Gona try this soon. Keep the videos coming.
I am trying this right now. My machine is only 500 watts do I turned up the heat to 160. I dont have jars but I can vacuim seal. Thanks for the idea. Especially now with packing plants closing like crazy!
Thank you for these videos. They are very user friendly and you have really good energy too.
I'm wondering if I could use my vacuum sealer with mylar bags with desiccant packs to have the same self life as a jar?
If not, could you show the canning process you use for your dehydrated foods? 🌴
Omg, I love your laugh. You're so cute. Thanks for making this video, I'm very new to dehydrating.
I ENJOY YOUR VIDEO'S SO MUCH . NOW THAT IT HAS BEEN SIX YEARS SINCE YOU PUT OUT THE VIDEO ON DEHYDRATING GROUND BEEF HOW LONG HAVE YOU FOUND THAT THE GROUND BEEF STAYS GOOD . I WAS GOING TO PUT IN A JAR AND USE THE FOOD SAVER TO STORE IT . THIS WOULD BE A GOOD ITEM TO HAVE IN THESE TIMES OF CORONA AND STORES ONLY LETTING US HAVE ONE OR TWO PKGS OF MEAT . ALSO WITH THE HEARTLAND FLOODING AND RANCHERS HAVING TROUBLE I AM DEHYDRATING VEGGIES WHILE WE CAN STILL GET THEM . I CAN MEAT'S BUT WANT TO ALSO BACK IT WITH DEHYDRATED GROUND BEEF . I HAVE TAKEN HOME CANNED CHICKEN AND DEHYDRATED IT FOR MY DOGS TREATS WHEN WE WERE OUT (LIVED IN AN ISOLATED AREA THEN ) THEY LOVED THEM. I TASTED IT AND IT WAS DELICIOUS . THE DEHYDRATED GROUND BEEF WOULD BE GOOD WHEN MAKING DEHYDRATED MEALS WHEN CAMPING OR HIKING . THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEO'S . BLESSING'S TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY , LINDA
I love your video, you get right to the point for us busy people lol
Love that star shaped tool ...
James, you'll find those in most kitchen stores (I've even seen in Walmart) They were initially introduced by Pampered Chef.
Great video! I was scrolling through your videos and found this one. I'm going to try this and make a video to share. Thank you!
Just found your videos
Definitely 👍🏼
Keep them coming
I was inspired by this vid and did this today. My results regarding size and weight: 1lb,5oz of 93% lean dried to 1,1/3c,3oz. This is an excellent way to store meat for my puppy who eats better than I do.
I love this idea, I have cooked Chicken and dehydrated it to use with top ramon. It did not last long for I eat it all. I can not wait to find some lean ground beef on sale. We get a 60/40 blend of beef/pork most of the time @$2.99, not sure what the fat % is on that. I might have to try and see what happens after I get my food saver and jar pieces this next week.
May 20, 2020. This is exciting! Thank you so much!
Hi, there. I did not know you had a channel. I think I follow you on FB. But love love love this video. And I found the tool you are using to be most amazing. On order now. Thanks for this video.
This is awesome thank you for sharing 🤗
This video may be 7 years old, but it is something we certainly need to pay attention to now. She spoke of the fact that beef prices were going higher. I'm sure she could not even imagine what has happened today in November of 2021. Listen up everybody, this is a great way to store for the long-term.
Loved the banjo music!😁
I had no idea frozen veggies can be dehydrated. Thanks! Am going tomorrow to get some frozen veggies!
I just ordered a dehydrator. Not like yours because of budget but I pray it will still work well.
Very nice! My wife and I made hamburger rocks to take on a cross-country road trip. They were delicious! For quick use situations like that where they are going to be used in a few weeks I don't rinse the meat... I just let the grease drain off in the colander.
For long-term storage I definitely rinse the grease off... and add an oxygen absorber to the jar. I also salt the meat during cooking... sometimes adding more just before putting it in the dehydrator too, since salt is a good preservative as well.
Hi there.
I just posted a message of my own. But you seem like you might have some worthwhile advice. So I'll repost it here. I like to keep all the answers together. So if you want to reply, I'd prefer that you go to my new thread. But if you can't find it, or can't be bothered, answering here is fine too.
"I live fridgelessly on a boat. The only thing I really miss is spaghetti bolognese. So I got pretty excited when I found this - and still am.... I'll try it exactly as per the video, and I'm sure I'll like it. But seeing those fats & juices go down the drain was only ever going to bring a tear to the eye :,-(.
I'd love to hear some ballpark figures regarding the storage life of full fat mince beef, once cooked, dried & properly sealed in a vacuum jar. If it lasted one month, I'd be more than happy. Two...and I'd be over the moon!
As I'm plenty interested in roasts & meat generally, I was going to buy an All American canner, and I still might. But first I need to gain a thorough understanding of what's possible with the most simple methods, like dehydration and proper storage. Wherever possible, I avoid consumerism/chemicals/waste/plastic.
Any tips or information, such as books, websites etc would be much appreciated!"
Thanx!
Andrew
You could can it, Andrew.
@@briananderson247 Yes, I do that too. I have 13 pints cooling off in the canner right now. =0)
I just followed the video and made 6lbs to start. Worked amazingly well! My question is: do I need an oxygen absorber if I vacuum seal the jar?

Curious how to use the food saver bags for dehydrated meat and what shelf life I can expect. Thanks for your informative video.
Tomato chips are my fave . Tastes like pizza . And I added nothing . But you can add basil salt and garlic . Sooooo yummy 😋
Thank you for your videos. Very educational and needed during this current global crisis. Can we dehydrate meatballs?
I love all this! You have totally inspired me. I have wanted to do this kind of thing for many years. Now I can! Thank you for showing me how! One question if have is I want to make old fashioned rice pudding with milk and eggs but in a jar and can it! I know I can make it first and then can it but can I make it right n the jar? Have you tried it?
Awesome. Thank you
Another great video. Thanks....
Your videos are great thank you . i winged it i got burger and thought beef jerky why not burger .so i got leanest burger put foil on the rack poked hole drip one under also and made thin pattys like cookies and oven 200 3 hours swaeeeet .It Works still munching after few weeks hard as a rock nice snack ahaha. Add water i will try it that way too thank youBlessings
Me too!
Great video..Would It just be easier to boil it vs frying?
thank you
Thanks
Great video. How do you re-hydrate it? Also, 1 cup dry equals how much re-hydrated beef? Thanks so much!
How long does it last once is dehydrated? Thank you! Awesome videos
great info
Ty
Thank you.
Thanks 🌷
you can add bread crumbs while cooking and when rehydrated it will be more tender
Bread crumbs also hold fat that may be in the meat and it will go rancid. Shortening or rushing the rehydration time causes meat to be hard as well. 30 minutes minimum. Use unsalted beef broth in with the water to add flavor.
Would adding some salt, prior to dehydrating, help extend shelf life? Thank you for good videos.
I enjoyed your video. What other meats have you dehydrated?
I'm enjoying your dehydrator videos. Can you show us how you draw the air from the jars?
Than you! And have a blessed day. P.S. like your bracelet.
so awesome I really want to do this because freeze dried cost so much money ugh
Oh I bet I was afraid to even look at the cost lol
Watching during Texas Winter Storm disaster!! What is your recommendation for buying a dehydrator?
I'm currently dehydrating bananas and strawberries. I'm gonna do onions and bell peppers next, then pork. But beef seems a little intimidating. But I'll get to it.
I have read that it should be frozen and sealed to prolong shelf life what do you think? Love your videos thanks!
I bought 6 economy packages of chicken thighs at half price because the expiration date was the following day. For the time being, I have them in the freezer. I am planning on cutting the meat off the bone, grinding the thigh meat and from that point doing the rest of the process as you have shown with the ground beef. Do you think this will work? I am hoping so. We aren't real fond of thigh meat, but if it is deboned and all, we might actually like it.
Hello
Nice video. I wondered if rehydrating the rocks with chicken broth?
Thank You
I Have an older model dehydrator that has no fan and no temperature setting. Can I still dehydrate the ground beef in it, and if so any recommendations on how long to leave it in the dehydrator?
Just wanted you to know that I rehydrated used your ground beef after 2 years it was good.
Do you have to use the air tight jars for storage or can you store the meat in seal-a-meal air tight bags?
I want to know if fully cooked dehydrated and vacc. Sealed in a mason jar, meat , needs to be frozen for long term and can I dry can chicken and hamburger
how long is the shelf life? would it even be safer if you added salt? also you fried your hamburg, how about boiling it and it removes all the fat? thanks nice video
How long can you store it in Mylar Bags with O2 absorbers without refrigerating?
A dumb question for a “GUY”…could I use Mylar bags with oxygen and moisture absorbers instead of using Mason type jars because of the shortages that are now occurring on canning jars and lids. Besides I like the idea that they would not break during a storm or earthquake etc. What do you all think???
PS I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL… AND BEING “A PREPPER GUY”!!!👍🙏❤️
I don't can but do plan on using my mylar bags. How did it work out for you?
Could you use a dry canning process to increase the shelf life?
it there a difference between cooking dehydrating canning the beef in mason jars vs cooking & canning the beef in mason jars not dehydrated? cool video :)
I don't have a canner so I'm wondering how do you remove the air from the jar? Im new to this so any info is appreciated.
Hi I just bought a excalabur dehydrator I wanted a timer but this one doesn't have one is it very important or can you manage with no problem. Thanks so much. Betty
If your dehydrator has a setting for meats (red) why do you use a lower temperature? just curious.
This reminds me of the videos of making beef jerky out of ground beef
How do you make the mason jar air tight?
I have an old dehydrator that does not have a temp gauge . Is that a problem with ground beef
How did you rehydrate the beef, and how do you store the dried beef.
I love dehydrated pork and beef patties in the 1st Generation MRE's. The dark brown MRE's from 1983. Never eat 2 or 3 patties dry on a march and drink a canteen of water. Bad.
Thanks for sharing 😎👍🏼UnkoRob very informative...
