☺To prevent browning, soak a few minutes in water with a little vinegar, or lemon/lime juice squeezed into it. Then proceed to dehydrate. ☺Then you can use that liquid to make bone broth, lots of starch and some minerals will be in that water. The little bit of vinegar helps get calcium from the bones into the broth. I would do it very slowly over hours, in a crockpot. Add water when needed. Vegetables towards the end.
I just put My own grown or ones I got on sale patatoes in lightly damp compost and they stay fresh from mid summer all through winter until mid spring. Around April they will start to try to grow shoots.

Yep! At 10:10 she shared one of the most important things about dehydrating potatoes! If you don’t mind eating BLACK or GRAY (ick!!) potatoes, then ignore her wisdom here. If you like your potatoes to be white, or creamy colored...take the few minutes more and parboil them.
Be sure to rinse them well after boiling them to get every bit of starch off before putting them on the dehydrator. They can still turn black if starch water isn't rinsed off well.

Very informative video! Really helps a lot! Getting my first dehydrator from Amazon Friday! I’m so excited! This is something I was really wanting to make so I’m so glad I came across your video! Thanks for sharing!
Happy dehydrating! I'm dehydrating onions right now.
I have one of those, different brand but same setup, and you REALLY have to be care of the blades on that sucker!! lol I just barely brushed my finger over it and I cut my finger. Great video too! Thank you!
This was exactly what I was searching for as a fairly new prepper, and you explained everything so well! Am starting to binge watch your videos & hope to also learn about canning, mainly water bath vs pressure cook. The big pressure cookers scare me. Thank you for sharing. New subbie here. 🤗
Thanks for subbing. Welcome to the channel!
I agree, you explain all steps and more. I just got a dehydrator and am learning. Thank you for sharing.
You are so welcome!
Thank you so much for making this video. I am just learning to use my dehydrator. This is very useful. God Bless You and Your Family.
Happy dehydrating!
Hello I am a new subscriber learning about dehydrating foods.
Save the starch & dehydrate on fruit rollup tray for potato starch for baking with.
Never thought of that. Thanks for the tip.
How?
@@pamwarren24 Boil to evaporate most of the water in the pot. Like cooking down tomatoes for sauce or paste. When you've evaporated as much as you think you can without burning the starch, transfer thickened liquid to fruit roll up trays. I haven't tried it ---> you may be able to make very shallow pans from aluminum foil to fit your trays, especially if you have square trays. Or use cut down disposable type plastic food storage containers to make dehydrating pans to fit.
Yup ... Great thickener for stew or gravy ... I'm not really fond of the flavor of flour ...
Love your advice and wisdom Heidi. I have started trying this, working so far. Thanks so much for sharing!! God bless.
Excellent video. I learned a lot quickly, thank you.
Great video, well thought out and executed. I love my dehydrator, probably one of my best kitchen appliance investments.
It really does come in handy and is a great way to preserve food at home.
Im A backpacker , this helped alot .
Do we need to bake the jars in the oven before filling with the.potatoes?
@@trishd5789 no. You just want to use sanitized jars & lids.
Probably the best video on dehydrating I've seen. Very thorough.
Thank you
You are welcome. I just have a borrowed dehydrator someone paid 5$ at garage sale. I'm going to save up for a good one.
The most informative video I've watched. It answered all my questions!
Happy dehydrating :)
Great video you would give Rachel Ray job competition. Very informative and with a warm delivery. Thanks
Yes I have my own stories - more than one. That’s why I bought some protective gloves. Now I’m happy again.
The gloves are a great idea
After cutting myself a few times while using the mandolin despite using the guard I bought some cut resistant gloves. They are amazing!
Great tip!
This so the best how to video I have ever seen. I will be saving this one as a reference.
Thank you for all you do. Blessed Be.
I am glad you found my video informative. Happy dehydrating!
I have fallen in love potatoes in recent days and make hash browns every morning with green onions and a dash of hot sauce!!!! I can't can them because I don't have a pressure canner, so this is fabulous to know....I've dehydrated in the Sun and I do have a solar cooker ...so....
Very well done! You've given me the confidence and inspiration to give it a try.
Happy dehydrating!

Wow, only eating potatoes for a whole year! I will have to check out his channel. Like you, if I grow my own potatoes I always leave the skins on. There is a lot of nutrition in the skin.
Yes it really is a fab journey Andrew went on and believe it or not he has the backing of some of the top plant based doctors in the world . I believe potato & sweet potato are the only whole complete food in the world (you can live indefinitely on ) , it really is a wonderful story . Tks agn

I’m still learning and get a lot of good information from you. Thank you.
Glad to help
Are you able to make potato powder? Thanks so much for the video.
Never thought of that. I know some people dehydrate potato "pearls" but I have not tried that.
Dale De Morgan - to make potato powder just grind down your dried potatoes in a coffee grinder or blender. Then let it settle before trying to pour in canning jar.
Edie Boudreau
Thank you Edie, I appreciate your response. I just wondered if it would change colour, even if stored correctly. Cheers.
Dale De Morgan - sorry but your post asked about if you could make potato powder so that's what I responded to.
Edie Boudreau
Yes Edie, you responded to my question as asked. Just asking another q. I had read somewhere you couldn't dehydrate them at all, so I am cvery pleased to have learned more. I am quite a novice you see.
You make everything so clear and fear free. Great job.
I appreciate that!
I got small potatoes that will soon have a date with my dehydrator
This is the best video on dehydrating potatoes. Thank you.
Glad you found it informative
TO AVOID THE LID OF THE DICE MAKER COMING LOOSE, DON'T LET THE DICES BUILD UP, BUT SHAKE THE DICER LEFT TO RIGHT TO EVEN OUT THE PILE & AVOID BUILD UP.
Prepper Potpoutti, , THANK YOU! best video. Ive learned so much!
Ty!! Great video! I hope to start canning this year.
Will I see some canning videos in your future?
Im gonna do this this yr with what I grew. Tyvm love your channel
Awesome thank you for this info. Love watching you.
Thank you, Angela
Thank you for this video, I learned a lot! I am dehydrating tomorrow and now feel super confident!
I had no idea you needed to boil them for several minutes before dehydrating!
Thank you for the information.
That's why I bought the 9 tray dehydrator. Better to have some empty shelves at times than not enough when needed. Best investment I ever made. Making the dice will be on my list when potatoes are ready.
