    If you're going to do a large batch of rice to dehydrate, it's going to make your life a thousand times easier if you refrigerate the entire pot of rice. Long grain rice has starches on the surface that will crystallise, and make each grain separate. Once you've finished refrigerating it, go ahead and break it up with your hands so that it's all individual grains. THEN dehydrate it. It's an extra step, but it means that your rice won't be in clumps, and everything will dehydrate perfectly.

I also use the nesco fruit roll up sheets in the Excalibur . I have several things on you tube on this

      I don't know exactly, how rice cookers work...
      But since rice contains arsenic, which may cause cancer, you should always cook 1 cup rice at least with 4 cups water (more water is even better).
      Arsenic will be in the cooking water, which you should pour away in the end. Also you have to wash the rice 3 times before cooking it.

    I have never been overly impressed with electric rice cookers nor any of those fancy wood/bamboo rice steamers either, mostly because, as in this video, the rice comes out in big, sticky, glutinous lumps. I cook rice the same way my mother did, by boiling it in a big pot of water and then pouring the rice and water into a colander and then, running cold water through it.
    The cold water stops the heat in the rice from cooking the rice any further and it helps to separate the individual rice grains and gives you a great fluffy cooked rice, ideal for dehydrating. Just let it sit to drain properly and then fluff it up a bit with a metal spoon as mentioned below.
    Extra tip: Always use a metal table spoon/dessert spoon/soup spoon or a thin metal serving spoon to serve rice. Most large serving spoons have a thick, rounded edge that can squash the rice grains into a sticky mass, but the thinner edge of the metal spoons separates the rice as it passes through the grains.

    When making lrg amt rice I use my IP and reduce water and time a little for less mushy/sticky rice. I agree with others, refrigerating rice over night gives separate grains.

I learned in culinary school that rice was a hazardous commodity after cooking, even if it was refrigerated or frozen straight after. Apparently there is some sort of bacteria that is commonly present and which is not killed by chilling or even freezing. The dangerous bacteria increases with time and if you don’t use the cooked rice within 24 hours, it should be thrown out. Does anyone know if the subsequent drying of the rice destroys these bacteria? Thank you. I really want to try this!

      Fats are what goes "rancid". White rice has had the fats removed. Brown rice still has its fat, thus brown rice will go rancid. White rice has a 30+ year shelf-life, if properly stored. The silica gel packs are to keep moisture levels low. Oxygen is what causes fats to go rancid. To remove oxygen from the air, an oxygen absorber packet is used to remove the oxygen and create a vacuum situation. A vacuum sealer, such as FoodSaver, does the equivalent.
      Hope this helps.

    Coming from a rice eating culture, you are using way too much water in your rice cooker. After washing the rice, fill water until it is only about an inch above the surface of the rice. Let it cook. Once done, life the pot out of the cooker and let it sit for 30 minutes. You should now have nice fluffy and grainy rice (not sticky, no clumps) :)

    Can I dehydrate rice that I cooked in chicken stock? I want to replace the "Uncle Bens' instant rice" bags that come in different flavors. Thank you for your advice, have subscribed and look forward to viewing!

      Could you do this short term with brown rice? I don't eat rice myself but my husband and son do and it's a pain for me to cook it. So any instant brown rice I make would be used up in less than 6 months probably. I don't mind cooking a batch ever 3-6 months!

    I dont find instant rice to be expensive for an individual. I have it every day for lunch, 1 to 1 hot water I let it hydrate in a food container 30 min or more. Add a portion of chopped chicken, green onions, teryaki sauce, I have lunch for about 75 cents

    We love rice BUT we like sticky rice best.(Asian style) Does the rice come out all separated as individual grains or broken mushy gains(over cooked)? Most Americans eat rice this way. Those are deal breakers for for us!

    • @joylee7274

      Boil rice in water, let it sit for a few minutes then drain out the water.

    • @christydragons2118

      So you cook it like normal rice? ( boiling water) or how long do you boil it for?

    • @christydragons2118
      @christydragons2118 4 года назад

      Ok I think I got it, so it’s like a minute rice correct? I was thinking it would be something like the Japanese instant rice ( zap for 1-2 min depending on portion. But there’s no water to be added or drained)

    • @joylee7274
      @joylee7274 4 года назад

      The only difference is that it will be more watery. I am doing it only bc my organic rice gets outdated too quickly cz I buy in bulk and it also saves time and energy. Also for emergency too.

    Oh please god don't do this. You just end up with awful sticky rice instead of the sort of rice where you can see, taste and feel each grain.
    Cook the rice, lay it out on trays in a thin layer, let it cool in a fridge and then store and freeze it.

  • @jimdavidson3345

    That rice really looks overcooked! Didn’t you rinse your rice before cooking? If you don’t want it to stick together, you should rinse until water runs clear. This video seems to be too haphazard to be presented as a “how to video” especially for dehydrating newcomers. Very disappointed!
