  • In this video, we show you how to change the battery in the BMW key fob. To replace your BMW Smart Key Battery, you will need a CR2450
    But to replace your Comfort Access BMW Key Battery, you will need a CR2032 battery
    If you have a BMW key that has a side indent, this means you have a rechargeable battery. Therefore, this battery charges when it is inserted in the ignition.

    You dont need a screwdriver, the end of the metal key is shaped to remove the back of the key fob to access the battery 🙂

    Can't get the cover back on. Slid the sections in properly but it won't snap shut. Too much pressure will break it. It is in the fridge now (don't laugh) in hopes that the plastic will contract. It is very humid today.

    The physical key also fits in the hole so I just pushed it in gently and the lid popped off, literally no tools required
    (it's slightly different on my 2017 320 but same principle)

    In the U.K. The battery cell on my 3 series 2013 and her 1 series 2017 is a CR2450.

      Interesting. So different types based on markets

    • @artgreen6915
      @artgreen6915 2 года назад

      @@bmwblog Just FYI the difference there is the generation not the marketplace. A UK 2019 3 series, or 2021 X3 would have the same key battery you showed in the first section - a CR2032.

    Dealership would love to charge $100 for this. Also you don’t need any screwdriver, BMW design the key that you took out to take off the plate.

    • @bmwblog

      True on the screw driver. It was just easier

    • @chuckvossler9010
      @chuckvossler9010 3 года назад

      While this is true, I wouldn't recommend it as the tip of the key is much larger than the little notch. If you don't have a screwdriver, I recommend you try your thumbnail or nail file so you don't damage the plastic housing of the key fob. (Chuck from the vid)

    • @tommytexter4054

      @@chuckvossler9010 no. There is a indent bmw put there to let u open with the key

    is key need to reprogram with the car after changing the battery? My key battery is discharging in these day.

    Couple of notes: The video shows a BMW replacement key fob. It has an asymmetric shape with pointed end. The OEM BMW key fobs are rounded rectangular. I have one of each (the dealer where I bought it probably lost one of the originals). However, I went to a dealer and they could not download the service data from the aftermarket fob. The aftermarket replacement uses a CR2032 and the on board chip does not carry all the data that the originals do. Many used car dealers replace a lost original with a cheaper aftermarket fob. It will still function when programmed. The OEM keys use a CR2450 and has an on board chip that stores all error codes and service data.

    • @nerbur

      Newer BMW's (I have a 2021, and have had loaner 22s/23s) all have the asymmetrical key as OEM - it's not aftermarket.

    if it doesn't work ....scrape battery - side with a razor blade ( battery has some kind of film on it ???)

    Maybe pause for a couple seconds on the shot of notch.

  • @maxflight777

    To be honest … that was poor. The battery is a tight fit and popping it out does not occur was you hinted.
