Thanks for this Justin, really helpful. In case anyone else is interested, my old Duracell 2032 batteries (in both my key fobs) lasted less than 18 months each. I'm in the UK. My remote locking and comfort access stopped working and I thought the worse: I hadn't used my E93 that much and wasn't that familiar with its operation. I put new Duracell batteries in both keys when I bought the car about 2 years ago so I thought that was that. However in desperation I thought I'd check the batteries just in case. Yep, both were dead! Put in new Panasonics and all is working again. I must say I was getting cheesed off using the emergency key to unlock, then leaping in to cancel the alarm each time! Thanks again.
Thank You! Been trying to figure it out for a couple weeks now. People tell you to break the fob open just to have to solder the battery back to the motherboard and super glue it back 2gether. I'm so broke I wouldn't be able to buy the glue let alone the soldering materials. But, I do have grey duct tape! Even the hamster in the wheel under the hood has grey tape on him. Your the best in the world.

Thanks for the video--wasn't sure how to open it on my own. Extra tip for ultra-lazy people like me who can't be bothered to walk to the toolkit for a screwdriver--the narrow tip of the emergency key can also do the screwdriver part of prying up the cover.

Question: one if the key pods were left in pants pocket and washed and dried. Now does not work. Answers?
try letting it dry out for a few days and put a new battery in. It's possible that the key fob is ruined though

A question is not deprogrammed the key? since I changed the control of a Jetta and the key was deprogrammed and didn't want to turn on

once my e90 comes body shop gonna change it.. was wondering why it won't unlock unless I'm really close to it
that could be it. When the key fob battery gets really low, you will also get a reminder on your dashboard to replace it.

I have the same shape key on 2005 1 Series and I had to cut the plastic all around, replace the battery and glue it back on using some superglue.:))
I can't understand BMW philosophy - providing us 2 different key options: better one (for higher price=comfort access) and poor one when you really need to cut the key to replace the battery. Shame on you BMW! Shame on you!

Hey man, we got a "new" key from dealer when we bought our 2011 328xi. Intermittently the unlock button won't work, I try the lock and trunk button and both work. My other key then will also unlock the car when this is happening. Is this a low battery or does that button need replacing?

I have the E91 2006 with comfort acces. And we just replaced the battery but still no signal. Does it need to charge og be recodded ?

Does that work with all E90 320i, 2011 models as well as my dashboard comes up with the fob logo showing battery Pic. How would I know if it's comfort access or not?
Comfort Access means you can unlock the door and start the car with the key in your pocket. Meaning you don't have to press the unlock button on the key, or insert the key into the dashboard to start the car.

I thought you were going to discuss regaining comfort settings AFTER replacing the battery.
What should I do? I replaced the battery like this but can't use comfort access now.
My battery is fine but I want to replace it with an new one anyway. Will any of the settings be reset or changed? One more question, my other E90 has the rechargeable battery, why did BMW stop making this design?
Changing the battery wont change any settings. Whether you have a rechargable battery or not depends on if you have Comfort Access or not.
The rechargable key (which is standard) charges itself when you put it in the dashboard. But since with Comfort Access you never have to take the key out of your pocket, the rechargable key wouldn’t have worked

you don't have to do any coding. Just swap the battery

Mine doesn't have a backplate it looks like. 2006 325i. Any recommendations for that?
That means yours is the rechargeable version. If it's no longer holding a charge, you will need to have the key replaced by the dealership. Technically there is a way to break the seal on the key and solder in a new battery but most people just have it replaced.
@@justinbuice Thanks so much for the reply! Do you know how the batteries are recharged? I have two sets of keys and noticed that one lost its charge over the winter while the car was parked.

I just did this, and now it won't work - you gotta fix for that? luckily, I have both fobs still - the other one got a fresh battery and works just fine... irritating me to no end!

@@Roberto2278x i was easily able to put a fresh battery. It just won’t work now. Tested battery. Other fon works. I’ve tried to reprogram it - countless things but it wont work. I do NOT want to take it to a dealer

@@Roberto2278x yes, of course... I even tried a couple different batteries fresh out of pack... cannot have three "duds" - I wonder if the contacts went bad or something the circuitry... doesn't make any sense

+joe lane you will need to go to the dealership to have new keys programmed. They use special software to do this
