Lilya, in this performance when she was 30 years old, artfully created this gift, showing then as now, that she can perform at a level that is simply beyond the possible for any other living pianist. She is in a class by herself. I am proud to know her as my friend; I am blessed!
Brilliant technically but listen to my upload of Shura Cherkassky playing the concerto in Japan with Svetlanov. Cherkassky brings all his arsenal of effects to this once neglected concerto: tonal shading, spontaneity, light and shade, imaginative touches and even in his eighties playing with a youthful virtuosity.
@pianofanful Oh, this is very difficult to explain. But look also the First Tchaikovsky with Lilya Zilberstein! It is from 1985. Before she won Busoni!
Was she playing a Steinway? The sound seems terribly muffled and not brilliantly clear. Maybe it's just the recording? Does she still actively pursue her career?

Big thanks for sharing this brilliant artist's insights and virtuosity.
Magnificent!
@semiramide1945 I think it is the recording and yes, she is still very active!
N'oublions pas la magnifique version de IGOR ZHUKOW ..INOUBLIABLE!!!
when you hear this concerto played by zhukov you don't want to hear it for anyone else.

what's not to love here ?
It's because of the orchestra.... They had only these scores....
@askdhg Thank you so much- Grazie assai
Ernesto Vasselli
The Siloti cut. bad
I like piano concerto no. 1
a lot of mistakes at the end of Cadenza,it's a pity, she is really a great pianist...and,however, Pletnev is unbeatable in this Concerto
Gilel's recording is also great... as is that of Cherkassky and Zhukov's reading is mind blowing ruclips.net/video/mYY8uzOZLGc/видео.html
Antonio Paterno Kantorow is the best
To me the best interpretation of this concert is Igor Zhukov.
