Amazing. The first moment piano cadenza is sensational. The second movement with the piano, violin, cello is gorgeous. Beautiful music-making all around. Superb conducting by Paavo Jarvi. I love this.
An outstanding performance thanks to the conductor, pianist and all performers! Paavo Järvi has already established himself as an outstanding conductor of Tchaikovsky works and he 'd never let you down in any of such performances. The unique part of this performance is the slow middle movement that surpassed my expectations; as someone who has listened to this concerto hundreds of times over the last 40 years.

@@DBoudewijnAussems It's amazing how you profess to have the score and yet are so clueless. It is most definitely the original version, not the Siloti one. Great sounding orchestra. That concertos second movement with a cello-violin trio within the piano concerto was certainly engenious of Tchaikovsky. Yefim Bronfman is very professional 👏
A brilliant and molto vivace rendition of this so rarely played concerto. I'd like to listen to it more often in concert halls. Surely, it would deserve a standing ovation.
Bronfman always one of my favorites both technically and interpretively, and the intonation and musicality of the orchestra and conductor is second to none.
What a blistering performance by Bronfman and this orchestra. Ridiculously good. The technical crew is always setting the standard for the audio-visual work. Thank you, FRS for sharing these concerts with the world.
Almost a triple concerto for piano, violin, and cello. Brilliant compositional writing in mvt.2. Fabulous rendition of this lesser known opus, esp. Y.B.
Should be performed definitely more often, the First Piano Concerto is far too overrated. This is far more interesting, especially the second movement that’s actually featuring music for piano trio and orchestra! The rousing finale brings the concerto to its captivating conclusion, one can’t get enough on the folk tune-like second theme, delightful! Bravo to all once more!
I don't know of a work more redolent of the late 19th Century. Maybe Liebestraum. It takes one right back to that time, somehow. Invention after invention. So very modern, they must have thought. So romantic. Beautiful.
What a refreshing change to hear the robustness of this take on the second movement. Bronfman & Järvi are both superb as are the soloists. Plenty of chamber music even in this gigantic symphonic work. Gergiev & Matsuev's new version is a very exciting performance too.
As much as I love Tchaikovsky, I am just not a fan of his first piano concerto. This, though? The first time I heard it was in concert and I was blown away by how charming, athletic, and good humored it is.
This is a brilliant performance of a gorgeous concerto that thankfully is not as neglected as it once was. In fact, it is structurally superior to the more popular First Concerto and offers just as much in content. Its unique 'andante', especially when performed complete, adds to its depth, charm, and stature. I've always been intrigued by the theme, here first at 3:15, that also appears in Emil von Sauer's First Piano Concerto. I believe it may be a Scottish folk tune, but I'd like to know if that's true. (It was also used in the film "A Man Called Peter", about the Scottish minister Peter Marshall.) I had not had the privilege of seeing Yefim Bronfman perform before, and I've not heard a more persuasive advocate for this work! Only the darkness of the video disappointed here; I wonder if it could be improved.
If you want to see Bronfman at his absolute best check out his Rachmaninov Third with Valery Gergiev and the Vienna Phil. It dates from 2004 but is still jaw-droppingly wonderful. ruclips.net/video/aFkAwFDZGHk/видео.html
