How To Make Scrunchies. How to Make a Scrunchy
These directions are for option #3:
1. Cut fabric into 3-1/2-by-22-inch strip.
2. Fold fabric lengthwise so it’s inside out and pin along the center.
3. Sew a straight line across the edge and remove pins once you’re done.
4. Pull the strip right side out. Attach safety pin at one end and weave the pin through the inside of the tube and pull it out on the opposite end.
5. Cut elastic nine inches and attach pin to one end.
6. Thread the elastic through the tube.
7. Remove the pin and tie the elastic into a knot.
8. Fold in the edges to create an even seam and tuck one opening over the other. Pin to hold the fabric in place and sew straight across to join the two sides.

Love it! Scrunchies are back in now, so perfect video.
my daughter starting wearing them a few months ago, that's what gave me the idea :)
How To With Kristin can you be my mom my mom don’t know how to make em 😪
Scrunchies never left!!!
My scrunchies never left!
Thank you for this! I've been searching RUclips for a scrunchie tutorial that was actually explained well. Great detailing and advice!
Samantha B. Yeah I loved this video! I also have been searching RUclips for this!
Thank you for this!! I’m creating an Etsy account and I know these are popular and this was very simple to follow. 😊
This was super cool. The mason jar in the last method is a game changer
do you mean changer?
@@nipnlick She said that😂
That Gurl Jinny she edited it lol
Thanks so much for this video. I never knew you could use a safety pin for a turner! You have made my life so much easier with that one hack! Thanks again!
This was an amazing video! My friends and I are making a scrunchie business and we all found this sooo helpful! We loved the 1st and 4th method! It was very clear instructions and very easy to follow! Thank you sooo much!
Thank you. I also got an idea watching. When you do the second one, lay a ribbon or string inside attached the the safety pin. So when your done just pull the string to turn right side out. 😁
With the first time stitching the the second one sorry.
start crocheting as a hobby for quarantine to make crochet scrunchies! i love crocheting scrunchies!
I am a beginner sewing and my granddaughter asked me to sew her some scrunchies. I have been sewing for hours and none of them have come out right until this video! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much 😊 it has taken me a while to find a scrunchie tutorial on RUclips that I actually understand
👍👍👍👍
Enjoy watching. I love watching his videos so yeah I’m still learning how to do scrunchies for my hair
this is so helpful! I was looking at other videos and none of them were being specific! thank you so much!
we were just making scrunchies thanks for helping us!
I had watched a couple of different youtube vids and was gutted as i had already sewn them together, i was gutted thinking i would have to unpick it all and its silk!!! THEN i found yours and you catered for this with your different options, i went with 3 but now im tryimg number 1. Thank you x
I love your method of beginning with the hair tie.
I had scraps of fabric and was wondering what could I do and I found this video. Then I saw how diverse your channel was and like wow!! Subscribed!
I’ve just made a whole load of scrunchies using method 1. Definitely my favourite. The more you do, the faster you get at it! Thank you! 🧡
Tina M Hi! I’m trying to start my own online shop but I was having trouble with method 1 I couldn’t pull the scrunchie down? Any help?
xoxo alise Hmm, it is tricky. It’s just a case of coordinating your hands. I stopped a lot to adjust the material, more so than on this video. Keep practicing and you’re sure to get it!
Perfect! Method 1 was exactly what I was looking for . Thank you!
Barbara Chandler how did u pull the scrunchie down? It didn’t work for me 🥺
xoxo alise I watched the video several times. You have to pull the elastic at the same time you’re wrapping the fabric around it. And I found it easier to have the fabric to the right of the needle. It took several tries to get the hang of it.
omg finally the real tutorial i can understand, i watched a lot of scrunchie tutorials for starting my own business but almost all the tutorials just ended up confusing me like they don’t really show the steps and just boom, done, new scrunchie from old shirt
I tried one of the options (#2) and it turned out AMAZING 😍 Thank you for the tutorial😊❤️
Omg the no elastic was a life saviour!
Thank you for advising this tutorial because in lockdown I don't know the right shop to find scrunchies so I had been dying for months to learn how to make scrunchies
Oh my gosh, ive never understood something more! :) thank you for this video it made sewing scrunchies 100× easier 😁👍
WOW I just bought a sewing machine I will make Scrunchie for my grandbabies thank you
Finally a tutorial that is easy, goes into detail but does bore me to sleep!
Wow!!😮 Thank you for sharing your pattern, the result are very beautiful 😍
Great ways to make a scrunchie. Fast and clear.
Thanks for the tutorial! When I get a sew machine for Christmas I’ll come back!
Adore this tutorial! So helpful to have a variety of ways to make a scrunchie! ~THANK YOU!~
Thank you so much for giving me options. I just love them all and I am going to try them. P.S. You are a great teacher. I am a new subbie, clicked the bell and a thumbs up.
Thank you!
Thanks for the tutorial! At the end of the sewn option (#1) and you sew the ends, do you sew through the hair tie or just right up to it?
Looks like she does.
The only tutorial that i understand thanyou so much im having a hardtime doing a scrunchiee
I did method 3 with regular fabric glue instead of sewing and it worked great!
Me: MOM LOOK THIS IS WITN NO HOT GLUE SKSKS
My mom: ok I’m coming just chill.
And I oop always gets autocorrect ed to and I poop
I was your 100th like
Oh wow number is an awsome idea. I love this video. Going to make these for my three grandaughters. TFS 👍🏻👍🏻
I personally use the first method because I had all the materials at my house already and I would just like to thank you for making this video because I have been trying to make scrunchies and failing until I saw this video and I have made a lot of scrunchies THANK YOU!!!!🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🤭🤭🤭🤭😇😇😇😇😇😇🥺
Wow super helpful love all the options ty for sharing this video🇨🇦👏👏💐
Thank you for sharing.
Very good teaching and explanatory.
Beautiful tutorial 🌼 absolutely love it. Thank you!
I like your 1st three options great👍👍👍
Thanks for the technique!!
Thanks for the tutorial! It didn’t work for me but that’s just because I’m not very good at crafts!
Haha awww
How To With Kristin it’s not your fault, you made a great video/tutorial! Thank you so much for making it!
Thank you so much for this video! I love making these, and they are so easy to make
First method is great . Thanks
I love these ways I really understand them some other people I didn't understand at all. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!! For the last way though I hand sewed it instead of using glue is that okay?
Thank you soooooooo much for posting this!!! Will definetly use these hacks.
my favorites were 1 & 3
great video thank you so much
Having tried a couple of different methods Option one of these is by far the easiest I have tried. I chose to hand close the opening, so slightly different but the method of elastic insertion is oh so simple .. Thankyou
That is so beautiful hair ties for your hair
With the last option, is it an idea to glue the edge of the pretty side and then flip it, like you did with the rest?
well, there would be no point to that
I got here by binging Bernadette Banner videos and ended up discovering what a VSCO girl is. This culture shock spans centuries. What a time to be alive!
SKSK AND I OOP- I need scrunchies for school so I need this!!
Omg thank u so much it worked so well.
Thank you! Very thorough
Ooooh very interesting! Thank you!! Just subscribed!! 😊😊
omg the first trick is amazing thank you::)
Scrunchies lover love it💚💚💚💚
Thank you for method 3 I was looking for that method
Np!
I honestly love this
Scrunchie is awesone
Great detailing and we'll explained
i lov the second one you made going to try it
I tried the last one and I loved it thanks for the help
I loved this video and I will do all of these ways because I love love love love (you get the idea with love) scrunchies
Your instructions are great!
When sewing the two ends together, do you just sew it to the hair tie or do you sew half, move the tie and then continue to sew?
I am wondering the same thing. Can someone please help us!! My scrunchie starts out so good and then I get to that step and it messes it all up
You can do both ways :)
Very helpful. Liked the first one
Instead of using crazy glue you should try quick drying or (if you wanna be fancy) elasticated fabric glue(elasticated fabric glue is harder to find but it'll preserve how stretchy your elastic in your scrunchie so it is super stretchable still)
They can't burn you and they're made for fabric x3
used this video to finally make my first scrunchie
So at the end when you are closing it do you sew right over the hair tie?
Gyrl I love this video. You make it look so easy. I've been thinking about making some of tgese. Also you have gorgeous eyes.
Thanks I am making some now
hey! thanks for posting this, it's a wonderful tutorial and so easy to follow. with option three, how are you sewing the tube closed around the elastic? thank you! xx
I just pull the electric away from the edge. You can also slow the video down to see the demonstration, if you need to
Another cool way to make scrunchiesis to do 2 rows of single crochet around, obviously youneed to know how to crochet but if you can then they are really fun and easy to do
👍🏼👍🏼 Awesome❣️ Thank You Kristin. 🥰
The third one is the best and easy
I just made these and put a tutorial on my channel. Thank you for sharing with me
I keep thinking I need to make some scrunchies :)
Thanks so much this really helped me
Your good at it
wow l loved these ways, not sure which one l like best and l am a new subscriber and l tried to make a scrunchy once, it didn't work, so thanks
thank you for this very helpful video that I probs will never do but it was very interesting
Number 2 is what i was looking for, thank u💯💯
i do 16 inches by 4 inches and it. works really well
I wanna try this. But I have never used a sewing machine only hand sew so it's gonna take longer for me lol. BUT TY
This video was so helpful
they all work
Thank you so much for this video!
Hi there Kristin! Thank you so much for making this video! Just one question, does it matter what type of stitch I use for joining the two sides together in the first method? Should it be running, backstitch, etc.? Thank you again!
So, you back stitch at the beginning and end of any line of stitches to lock the stitches in place (otherwise they fall out). Forward back forward back. Just a few stitches is all it takes. Then you run the whole line and end with the same forward back forward back motion. The whole thing is done in running stitch which is essentially a straight line with no zig zags in the stitch. Zig zags are for making clothes with stretchy fabric typically. I hope this helps.
Clever. Thanks for sharing!!!
May I ask how much do you charge for the scrunchies. I am a beginner and I find your four different methods easy enough to follow.
THANK YOU 🌻
SO SO COOL!!
For option three I put the band through a straw, then bunch the flipped material then tie it together.
Lol... I just give a like and it was 2k and now with me it turnd 2.1k 😅🙃
#3 is the best
There’s a woman on RUclips who teaches people how to hand stitch Victorian style (the strictest of the eras on hand sewing ever....) I forgot her name but I can see her face perfectly and I’ve watched the video like 60 times.
Love from London 😍😍😍😍
