Hi Scotty, Could you please help me answer my question? I own a mercedes C klasse C200 CDI from 2002. It has a fuel distributor(Common rail assembly) with at one end a fuel pressure sensor(sender unit) and at the other end a fuel pressure regulator(control valve). My first question is if you could explain what the difference is between these two. My second question is if it is possible and necesarry to clean them for preventive maintenance like you do to the other sensors with MAF cleaner or other types of cleaners. Could they give faulty readings because of present excessive dirt? Thank you!!

10 years ago I paid $500 for a 91 Lexus LS400 on Craigslist with 180k miles that was making a horrendous sound under the hood. The owner was certain the engine was toast. Since the tires were almost new I took the deal. Turns out the horrendous sound was the fan clutch bearing bracket $150 part at Auto store. Changed it out. Purred like a kitten. Still running today. 😀
When I bought my 91 LS400 it already had 287,000 miles on it. Here I am, almost 10 years and 90,000 miles later, still running reliably. It STILL passes California emissions every 2 years.

Hi Scotty, I own a Lexus 2004 LS 430 ultimate luxury package. And I have fallen in love with the smooth as silk ride. I’m 70 years old and it’s the best car I have ever owned. By far the most reliable car ever made in my opinion. Every thing works like a charm. I will never sell this car or trade it in for a newer car. They just don’t make them like they use to.
I'm the third owner of LS400. The other two died in their 80s and their estates sold car, they didn't and probably wouldn't have. I won't sell. Best darn car of 44 I've owned! Period.
I bought the same car in 2023 with 102k miles on it for $7000 in black cherry with black leather real head turner total creampuff have had tons of offers to sell it , the LS430 is widely considered as one of the best cars ever made. Absolutely Love it .
He used to live in the house next to the garage with the "Live free or die on it" but its hard to find now since the "Live free or die sign is gone" There you go.👍🇦🇺
My uncle had one and passed away. I drove it once. What an amazing car. Power was great and the AC was ice cold. So quiet and I loved the Levinson sound system. Those seats were like butter...supple yet soft and supportive. Also loved the RWD. Very quiet cabin oh and the AC vents oscillated. Great car! His had almost 200k on it and it still ran like a champ.
My 2006 is best car I have owned since getting my driver license 60 years ago. Changed plugs at 1400,000 K.L.M now use 1 to 1.5 liters less fuel per 100KLM (self fix i guy) No issues except steering column motor trunk struts and air condition rubber hose failure. A clean car in and out no rust. (Canadian winters) Original rotors no vibrations only pads changed. Self changed trans fluid after 16 years (black) 4 changes at 1.7 liters per drain and fill. (recommended by dealer) Had an E 430 (Mercedes)1999 (what a hunk of junk) spent more time under it than in it.👍
I own an LS430 and Ill tell you its incredible that a car older than me is as reliable and solid as this one. I love the car so much. She was garage kept before I bought her and she still looks so beautiful 20 years later. Especially with the aftermarket rims I put on
Interesting. But a 460 looks so much more modern than the boxy 430. Also, the 460 is a beast when you use the manual shift mode. Otherwise, it's pretty docile.
Unfortunately, young drivers think because they are cheap they should be turned into drifters or neglected beaters. Don't do it, Kids! You will never find a love as true as Lexus.
I just purchased an old 17yo Lexus SC430. Same engine and luxury as its brother LS430 that you just reviewed. The engine and gearbox are the best money can buy. So silky smooth. I expect it will be around and doing fine after another 17 years. You cannot beat Lexus. My next purchase will be the LC500.
I remember reading back when Lexus first started that they were losing thousands on each car, to get themselves into the US market. The LS is the best in class by miles. Maybe not exciting to drive, but cushy and bulletproof.
Mercedes was the only be who accused them of selling the car at a loss and they actually threatened to sue them for price fixing. However they had no grounds to really sue them. Mercedes was just upset that they sold same amount of luxury and higher reliability for almost half the price.
Hey Scotty, those LS430s are the most popular mode of transportation overhere in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, everyone and I mean EVERYONE are buying them!!! We are importing them from US, EU and Australia, these cars are bulletproof and they withstand the heat of our region so flawlessly! Maintenance is unbelievably cheap! Everyone owns 1 or 2! Driving 150 miles road trips is a piece of cake for these cars!! 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻And infact when you once said that the new Lexus LS is the best car possibly in the world, I totally agree with you 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Just bought 05 LS430 w/ 61k for $10k & changed timing belt immediately. Best thing I have ever done besides buying Bitcoin. Best car ever built in terms of comfort & reliability. The CEO of Ford used to drive this as well. Interesting thing is that the newer LS460s are not are awesome.
I bought a new 2005 Ls 430 and it was the best car I've ever driven hands down. I put just about 400,000 miles on it and it was still running like new when I sold it. I still miss that car up to now. I'm actually thinking about buying another one if I can find one in good condition.
I have the O3 LS430 Ultra Luxury edition...it's 17 years old and runs like a top, great ride, never had any issues at all, 124k miles on it.. Had that same code..one of the Cats needed to be changed..easy fix.. Highway..get close to 30mpg...city in the Teens..but the LS430..is built to last..I'm just breaking it in...Awesome Video as usual..
03 ls430 base model owner & theres not a thing i would change ab the car💪 best bang for your buck and the nicest riding car youll find for the reliability
I miss my 03 LS430.. the quietest, softest most reliable luxury vehicle for the price! Heated and cooled seats, oscillating air vents, self leveling HID headlamps and overall a comfy ride for 3000.
The Lexus LS430 is my favorite car. I drove one for 26 miles at 130 mph and it felt like we were cruising at 70 mph. It is governed to 130 mph and I experimented and it will hit the governor in 3rd gear and they have a 5 speed auto. It was solid as a rock and as stable bouncing off the governor at 130 mph as most cars are at 60 mph. This of course was on a 26 mile private road.
Scotty is right. My 2010 BMW 750 has needed several oil leak repairs. The engine may need a rebuild because of the notorious valve stem seal issue. I'm now looking at a Lexus, only because a relative owns one since new and it's been rock solid, even though it has 140,000 miles. I could certainly do away with the annual $2500 repair bill for my beemer
Never getting rid of my mint condition 2000 LS 400. It has 204,000 miles now and it runs just like the day I bought it from the original owner back in 2005 with 44,000 miles on the clock! It is definitely going with me to my grave!
To this day the 1998-2000 (second generation major refresh) is my favorite of all the LSes, even more than the also great fourth generation 2007-2012 (pre-predator grill). The only thing i don't like are the stock wheels and the stock exhaust tips, which are easily modifiable. I'm always temped to pick up a clean one for just several grand. Even this 20+ year old car is better made and with better quality than most modern cars, even modern luxury cars...
I just got a 98 with 108k miles.did all the maintenance items. As smooth as butter. Can't even hear the transmission shift.never owned anything like that.
I bought an 02 LS430 in 08. Runs like a charm and THE best car I’ve ever owned. The LS460,500 etc may look sleeker and aerodynamic but even the dealership guys have told me they rarely see a problematic LS430 in the shop but the LS460 has a lot of issues and wasn’t there a massive recall after the LS500 was introduced into the Lexus line? Oh my!
Well I got a Lexus rx with 250000 it a,400h hybrid no problems what so ever no oil or water leaks no squeaks or rattles starts every time/the only thing I done last year was change the water pump and pulleys tensioner ect and timming belt plus I also changed the pads and rotors and also changed the gearbox oil and service, other than that it's been 100 per cent reliable,I wouldn't buy anything else now, and would you blame me a quarter of a million miles trouble free ,absolutely brilliant,,,, stevie ,
I've had my 97 for 3 year's or so now. picked it up with 68k from the original owner, drove it to 95k with zero problems. decided to do pads/rotors all the way around and did the timing belt job. replaced almost everything that came off. I don't plan to get rid of it any time soon. about to roll over 110k. my 6month old son will probably drive it eventually lol
I needed a new car for my family of 5. Almost bought a 2011 Ford Escape, did some research and somehow ended up on scottys RUclips channel... long story short passed on the escape waited and found a 2003 Lexus RX300 with 137k miles for $4 grand. Got it inspected found out it needed new tires, air filter, and a an oil change but was in great shape besides. Way older vehicle with way more miles then I was first wanting but I’m feeling good about this purchase.
I have my deceased fathers 1992 LS400 that he bought new. 215,000 and in mint condition and I will probably give it to my son if he wants it.....old luxury but drives like freaking new circa 1992. 😆
@@vladq8546 those rx300s are great vehicles. I'd take occasionally having to buy parts and repair an older vehicle any day of the week vs having a monthly car payment unless it was a weekend toy. even then I prefer the 90s sports cars
Unfortunately, the transmission just started slipping on mine. My fault because I brought it to a lousy shop about 4 months ago and I didn't check what fluid they were using. I will try with Toyota ATF next, thankfully it's still drivable once it's warm.
4 yrs ago, I got an '05 with 65k. Now it has 100k, and I've only had to replace the battery and trunk lid struts. My research shows that the door locks and steering wheel tilt motors can be problematic, but no issues yet. I pulled the steering wheel tilt motor fuse to prevent wear.
My current car is a 2007 Lexus ES350 V6 I bought a year ago, had about 55K miles on it, great car, love it. I intend to keep it for about 10 years. Everything Scotty says about Lexus's is true.
Some of the best auto advice on the internet. Thank-you for helping keep us on the road. I'd love to have anything you are giving away to us home mechanics, and promise to put it to good use.
"Crappy Houston Roads"......come to the midwest and experience real crappy roads, especially in the spring "road construction / pothole filling" season.
I just put an alternator in the one that was at least 20 years old and everything else worked perfectly. the car was in great shape. Toyota really knew how to make those things. I work for Ben's when those things came out and they almost put us out of business in the states.
I love it - I recently bought one. I’ve always been a Mercedes man, but I can’t argue that the overall quality is far better and it’s 1 million times more reliable than any other car. It’s solid and it all stills work. Gotta love Lexus. Keep educating the people @ScottyKilmer
@Prime Artemis Lexus is a fckn toyota. Older toyota in 3rd world countries are very prominent with 500k miles on them carrying 20 people on them at once. Used in middle eastern countries for every use case. Tons of pics. Dont think a lexus cant do the same, its a rebadged toyota thats more luxurious. Tf are you on about saying german cars are more reliable LOL...
Honda is just as good. Well, Acura in this class.and the crown Vic, grandmarquis and town car are the American version . Scotty has said it too. They run forever
@@Baebon6259 Lexus is fancy version of Toyota. in Japan and other countries, Lexus are sold with Toyota badge. Lexus brand was a marketing gimmick for USA market.
It's amazing how well built those are. I rode in one a few years back. It's like sitting in an insolated leather interior tank that you feel no bumps in and accelerates like a Mercedes.
Spot on, Scotty. I located a 2005 LS 430 last year, and it is way ahead of anything in a long line of luxury cars. Will never replace it, come what may! Every journey is a pleasure.
If you can afford the fuel cost, BUY IT!!! The LS430 is a fantastic car. It's easily the best car I've ever driven. Fuel economy in the city is pretty bad (16-18 mpg), but it's very aerodynamic so the highway mileage is OK (24-26 mpg).
@@tyttuut yep when I first bought my Ls430 I was on the gas pedal always, my mpg wasn't looking great and with these LA gas prices my wallet wasn't either! now I get decent mpg (19-24)
Thanks for the video Scotty. I bought my 2005 LS430 UL in 2007. 13 years and 250k miles later; still runs like a dream. It’s my daily. I average 18-19 mpg in the city and 26-30+ mpg on the highway! I love it.
Wow. How do you get 30 MPG? I bought my 2005 LS430 in July 2020 with only 103,000 mile and the best I can do on the Hwy is 26 mpg. And that's driving at 1600 RPMs or between 50 and 55 MPH. I use Mobile One oil, but I buy my gas at Sams Club, which uses 10% ethanol. Could that be the issue?
@@palmbeachcitizen I'm not kidding hahaha. my sweet spot for me is right in-between 47-51 mph, where I'm basically idling I've seen all the way up to 32mpg before, all though that's on a completely level road no bumps no wind at all.
Dear Scotty, thank you for finally doing justice to this Japanese masterpiece. Mine is slightly different, as it is a 2004 Ultra, with air suspension and a 6 speed transmission. I keep telling myself that the price of gas is offset by the better safety potential of this vehicle. Previously, you made mention of the higher maintenance costs of this V8 relative to the Toyota V6s and the starter position underneath the engine... With the power switch on and with higher quality fuel, the car does accelerate more impressively than in your video. This car is a keeper.
I have the same one, built December 2003, being the facelifted 2004 model with what we call the President pack in Europe. Bought 2 years ago, thinking it would be the best car ever built and it has not disappointed. New EUR 113k in my country, paid EUR 13k for it and in perfect condition. Now put almost 60k kilometers on it. Great family car too!!
i just got the same model but imediately had to pay 3k for a new rack and pinion and front air struts, what mileage are you at ive been trying to se just how long this exact model usually lasts
I just bought a silver 04 ls 430 with black interior and 140k miles on it for $4000. Live in Minnesota and it has no rust and very little body damage. Think I got a steal
I own two LS430's. One is the base model and the UL. I've replaced a transmission in one and removed the air suspension in the same car. The base model, gave me waaaayyy less issues than the UL, naturally. But I'd buy either one again. Solid car
Well, I didn't go with a Lexus. I got a 2010 Rav4 for $10k, 94k miles. Previous owner kept a log of all the work done to it. Oil was changed religiously. Runs like a top, and I love it. AND I have you to thank for that , Scotty!
Really ? I drive a 3.5 V6 Acura TL and the owner's manual calls for premium fuel. It has 125k. Maybe every 10th or 15th fill up I'll put premium fuel for good measure but other than that it's 87 octane for majority of fill ups. No problems with engine to this day. Runs like a champ. Barely notice a performance hit.
@@buzztrucker Eventually your motor will start to knock. That’s not good. Secondly your vehicle will accelerate better and you will do more mileage per tank by using 91 octane fuel as is recommended by your cars manual. It’s advisable to follow what the manufacturer recommends. There is a reason why the engineers at Honda recommends premium fuel. A very good reason. Just saying.
I have two very good mechanics that are my friend from childhood and they both told me to use premium on my Honda as oxygen sensors will get dirty if I don't use primum and they were both right. You will see your engine light turn on at least on Honda CRV and Accord as i have both.
I had an 02 LS430 that was only serviced at the Lexus dealer in Beverly Hills. I picked it up at 65k miles. I did need to change the radiator at 90k miles as it was leaking I’m sure due to age. I put in the exact same OEM Denso radiator myself for $200. I had the driver door lock actuator go out. I also replaced the hood struts as they were fairly weak and didn’t hold up the hood. Replacement ones worked perfectly. Still drove like a dream, one of the smoothest riding cars on the road.
Man I love your reviews, you made me convince my dad to switch from Mercedes or any other car but Lexus and Toyota are reliable and give you peace of mind
With the older LS400s, you'll see false ECU codes and even no ECU communication. Replacing the capacitors in the ECU will resolve these issues most of the time.
The fact that you bought an LS430 with that kind of millage, you should be lucky. Those cars are so hard to find because people don't ever want to sell them. And usually the ones on sale have worn out seats or something.
Providing you won't get into and accident or encounter a natural disaster. Your next purchase will be an electric vehicle. Very fortunate purchase.. practically not even broken in..
@@Drskopf Yes we have, mostly in bigger cities. But German premium cars are far more popular than Lexus. Most people with money don't care about more reliability but more about luxury and image. And we like wagons and German brands have a lot of wagons.
A broken timing belt on a non-interference engine might not destroy the engine but it could leave you stalled in the middle of the freeway or on some train tracks.
I just got my 04 LS 430 back from Timing belt and Water pump replacement. Cost me $1,300. I didn't want to do it myself and make a mistake. Lexus gave me a loaner car, pretty happy. I love my LS. it's big, runs quiet and floats down the road.
Scotty. Have a 2011 gmc crew z71, 53,000 miles. Bought it new. No problems until Monday eve. pulled up to stop sign and when slowly pulled out started running extremely rough. 25 miles per hour tops to my house 1 1/2 miles away. warnings were traction control, steering stabilitrack, ABS. reduced engine power loss and maybe a couple other. Got me some parts, steering position sensor and throttle position sensor. Took off hose to throttle body, got rag, old tooth brush and can of throttle body cleaner. Throttle body was pretty dirty. Got it spick and span. Started the truck and sprayed cleaner into throttle body while running. I took off the positive cable for 20 minutes to reset computer, put hose back on, started up and all seemed well with no warnings. Ran to store about 5 miles, on interstate ran hard up to 3rd gear on Alison 6 speed 75mph, 5500 rpm, with tow package, 5.3 vortec. Got fuel injection cleaner, poured in tank about 1/4 full. Came home and ran same way. No codes what so ever. Watched your video before on cleaning throttle body every so often. first time clean and saved myself trip to shop. I figured steering position sensing sys was enacted because so rough idol , and throttle body just dirty caused all codes. Did not have to replace parts or take off the throttle body. Figure would have cost about grand here because they would have replaced parts due to codes. Now just to finish up here in NE Wyoming in couple days and snowbird down to Brenhan, TX for winter. Thanks Scotty!!! your video saved the day.
If timing belt is cracked, it's time to think about replacement. Engine can run on and on with no internal repairs for 1 million miles or more (Matt Farrah's) but when belt breaks, valves hit pistons and engine is junk quickly. All interference engines are like this, but in the Lexus it's so rare no one I've talked to has ever seen it happen. Nevertheless...
Took my 1998 LS 400 with 250,000 miles in for service, walked the dealer lot and they had a 2001 LS 430 with 57,000 miles and I bought it for $10,000 and it has been great.
Hello Scotty from San Antonio, my mother has a 2004 LS with 467k miles! She is the second owner, she bought it 6 years ago with 370k miles for 5k, I’d say she got her money’s worth. Unfortunately last month she was at the lake house where one of our flood bank retaining walls collapsed sending her car and two other vehicles 20 feet into Canyon Lake! :(
I drive a 2008 Lexus E 350, with just over 120 K miles on, bought used 5 years ago, only spent money on regular maintenance, everything still works and never had a mechanical issue. My previous car ,a BMW 525, 07, cost my a fortune in repairs.
I bought my 2005 Lexus LS 430 in the summer of 2020 with 103,000 miles on it for $10K. Immaculate condition. Black Cherry. It's the nicest luxury car I've ever been in. Told my wife that this was our "forever" car, meaning that I'm never getting rid of it. It's tank tough and rides as soft as butter. Thank you, Scotty, for doing. your review. I'm glad you think so highly of this model and you're absolutely correct; it's the best buy on luxury in the country. After 2006, Lexus decided to cut back on all the extravagant trim work and sound deadening.
My E39 BMW 5 series has an interference-type V8 engine also. BMW built it with a timing *chain* so it would never have to be serviced like a timing belt. But they installed *plastic* chain tensioners that disintegrate faster than a timing belt, and when the tensioners come apart the engine becomes a grenade. Did you say $900 to replace the timing belt on the LS430? My independent Euro mechanic quoted me $8000 to replace the timing chain and tensioners on my car. This is why I'm shopping for an LS430 right now.
Dealers charge around $200 for hood struts (and hatch struts on other Lexuses), which cost less than $20 aftermarket and take 5 minutes to install...by bye dealer
Just bought an 03 LS430 classic luxury with 40000 miles on it. Actually 65000km b/c I'm in Canada. Honestly I was worried about the RWD on the vehicle considering the outrageous weather conditions we live with out here. The vehicle sticks to the road and honestly makes me feel like a ceo daily. I Would recommend this to anyone who is even considering buying one. They are rad 👌😎

No issues except steering column motor trunk struts and air condition rubber hose failure. A clean car in and out no rust. (Canadian winters) Original rotors no vibrations only pads changed.
Self changed trans fluid after 16 years (black) 4 changes at 1.7 liters per drain and fill. (recommended by dealer)

I remember reading back when Lexus first started that they were losing thousands on each car, to get themselves into the US market.
The LS is the best in class by miles. Maybe not exciting to drive, but cushy and bulletproof.
I hear Ford is losing thousands on each car as we speak.
Ford will go bankrupt in few month, if not in couple years.
I could certainly do away with the annual $2500 repair bill for my beemer
I found that with my BMWs. I loved driving them but they had issues every so often. With my LS430 I've only had to replace tyres and brakes

Thanks Scotty!!! your video saved the day.
this is true my 1997 LS400 coach edition 220k never had the belt changed, full of cracks but never snapped
You’re really gambling, I changed my 98 at 95k but cheers for yours lasting that long
If timing belt is cracked, it's time to think about replacement.

😳😮😳
Fish it out, it might still start!
@@thatguy2227 on god i feel like it will start.
I have an 05. Best car hands down. Has plenty of giddyup when you need it, comfort when you want it and features that are amazing.
ABSOLUTELY the best car !
I get about 25 mpg hwy on a 04 LS430 with 60k miles. It's great car. Only oil and one set of brake pads/front rotors. That's it.
Hey Scotty! I’m glad you’re moving to Tennessee, I’ll be only 8 hours away from you! I’m going to bring you my car 🤣
I envy you
@@obsessedwithcars219 pfft... 8 hours... I'll be just 1 hour from Scotty!

Clarksville I believe?
I drive a 2008 Lexus E 350, with just over 120 K miles on, bought used 5 years ago, only spent money on regular maintenance, everything still works and never had a mechanical issue. My previous car ,a BMW 525, 07, cost my a fortune in repairs.
My 2003 Ls430 has 295k miles and i use it for work daily Most reliable tanks ever built
what color code white were used on these LS? Is it pearl white?
@@2jz4life35 unsure about that one but I think so because that’s what I classify it as a pearly

Scotty is priceless. Common sense AND intelligence. 😍
Another big problem is the starter. You have to take off the intake manifold to get to it. It can be a $1000+ job
Scotty said this on his SC430 video. It had 700000 miles. Still original. Not worth worrying about.
@@southerncharity7928 no, Scotty said that about one car...he also said it's a draw back..700k for a starter isn't the average
...
Doing that myself for the price of the starter lol
I have a 1993 SC 400 with 204k and 2003 LS 430 UL with 140k n both still going strong good video Scotty ‼️
I have a 93 sc 400 and a LS 430 UL lolb
One thing; Scott always says that the hood struts are expensive. All three offerings ar RockAuto are less than $13 each. :-)
Dealers charge around $200 for hood struts (and hatch struts on other Lexuses), which cost less than $20 aftermarket and take 5 minutes to install...by bye dealer
It's expensive to him and his audience
I'm 100% with you on the ugly gaping grills on the 3rd generation LS.
That Lexus changes the timing to adjust for running inferior fuel.
If you don’t mind me asking, What did you pay for it?
Not a Celica
I've a LS460, chain, no belt. Aisin AA80E 8 speed trans. In 2 years I've only replaced fluids and tires. Rides like a dream, 380hp, 17/26mpg.
Year and mileage?

LEXUS EXPERIENCE AMAZING
Just got an 05' LS430 with 135K mi for $6,250 from a private seller. Love it, drives like a cloud.
Good deal!!
8:00 Well maybe if this guy would switch to a different fuel brand or even go back to premium altogether then that code would go away.
