Wonderful cars. Very comfortable and of course quite reliable. Whereas German cars are designed to fall apart and they do that pretty well. I don't know if these cars were purchased by old people; but they were generally purchased by people with money; which is not something you can say of new BMWs
It's ironic. The poor people buy flashy trash that breaks and is expensive. Every hood Ive seen has sports cars. Every upper class area has the Japanese economy car beaters.
@@bldontmatter5319 So true and one of the reasons that people stay poor is that they waste their money on bling that falls apart. Wealthy people stay wealthy by not throwing their money away.

My old LS430 was my pride and joy- sold it at 365k miles and it was still running smooth and comfortable inside - such great clean cars - reliability is unquestionable- engines are bulletproof, if you treat it right it will last you forever
These hood up well. I have two. One is a Modern Luxury Package and the other has the Ultra Luxury Package. They’re very dependable and well built. When they DO break, they’re tricky to fix like any luxury car. When it rains, it pours, though.
I have the 2005 LS 430 purchased a couple of years ago with 62,000 miles and I am thrilled. Almost to 100,000 miles now. And I’m a previous owner of two Mercedes S 500s. The peace of mind of value and maintenance is enough for me. But when you put the pedal to the metal and it purrs, it’s just icing on top of the cake. No Grandma here. I’m a fine fashionista with appreciation for a fine piece of machinery. Oh yea, her name is Cream Puff! 🙌😘❤️
My grandparents bought a brand new 2004 Lexus LS430, thing had all the tech that cars today still don't have as standard or even options. 1. Oscillating AC vents 2. Dual Zone Climate Control 3. Headlights that turn with the steering wheel 4. Ventilated Seats 5. No physical key requirement in ignition 6. Proximity entry 7. Auto deployed rear windshield glare nets 8. Electronic steering wheel tilt Thing was a beast.

Owner of a 93 LS400. While I love the styling of the first gen LS400 more, my next lexus would either be a GS400, or a LS430 if I don't find another LS400 as near pristine as mine is! (mine isn't absolutely perfect but it's near being pristine.)
The LS430 is one of best car ever made. They are not boring, The 4.3 engine is good enough to be used in planes..!! The quality is amazing. I have one and really enjoy it..
My daily driver has been an 07 Camry XLE for 12 years. I test drove an 06 LS430 today with 180K miles. The car was in 7/10 condition overall. Some ripping of rubber around doors. Some chrome around windows was corroding. First time driving an LS and I only took it for a short test drive but it didn't wow me enough to buy it and upgrade from the Camry. It felt older than my Camry for some reason. It definitely felt more solid than the Camry.
Prices on these have been going up lately, this video won’t help me get an affordable second one, haha! Love mine, have had do very little to it since ownership. Just really want a silver one as a project car also.
I love my 2002 LS 430. Iam constantly getting asked if I want to sell it ? NO IT'S A KEEPER ! Thanks for reminding us what a great car this is ! Good video!
I owned already two Lexus, the 1990 first Lexus LS 430, have a phone on it, and the best radio from the Japanese Manufacturer. Best car's ever, now I own the 2001, LS 430, and as a Nurse have to travel place to place to serve my Elders at their own house, this car is super save and best on his line.
I have made the ES my choice over the years. I look for one with about 160,000 km. (100,000 mi.) then check the glove box for the owners manual. If every service has been stamped by a Lexus dealer, I am confident the unit is as good as new. Old people remember the day when a car was pretty much used up at 100k, so they trade it in. I buy a very reliable used car for the price of a new econobox, drive it for at least twice as far as that econobox would have survived, and sell it very cheap to someone who will use it for a few more years.
Transmission failures on these are mostly from lack of maintenance. In 2004 they switched to the 6sp sealed unit. In other parts of the world, they had a 60k miles service recommendation. In the US they just said it was lifetime fluid. That was common practice at the time to make maintenance cost appear lower.
I own one and I replace the transmission fluid every 90k and never had any problems. Never believe that fluid is good for the life of the car as some people will state
The dealer service replaced 1/3 of our transmission fluid every so many miles. If you did that, you were fine. My 430 was rock solid at 160K miles and I replaced it with a 460.
@@takenpictures mixed bag. The Sport Edition (not F sport - the first of the sporty attempts) is good as a package but not great. The sport tuned air suspension has somewhat aggressive damping from the perspective of poorly maintained urban roads and vibrations do travel through the chassis. On the highway however it's great. But the problem really is the chassis doesn't support the tuning of the suspension. The better buy in the 2007 to 2012 model is the standard car. Even then, it's more complex and has way more known problems. The self-making gasket material fails and must be replaced. The suspension is more complex and the front bushings fail. The brake system and fuel system are prone to needing work as the car ages. I had all of that done. Even the standard car (without air or sport air) doesn't ride as luxuriously as the 430. I live with horrible urban roads and this reminds me that we're often putting lipstick on a pig when fitting sport anything to a car like this. Whereas the 460 has EPS, and it's extremely vague and dead on center, the 430 is old school and requires fewer turns and has a tighter turning circle. While the powertrain in the 460 is clearly superior and gives you a much better driving experience, there's plenty of torque in the 4.3 L engine which honestly is what really matters with a car the size and weight. Speaking of weight, the 460 also weighs more by a good measure so it's still doesn't exactly feel nimble even if it feels quicker. The eight speed transmission also tends to hunt quite a bit more under certain conditions although on the highway it is excellent especially for downshift speed. Keep in mind that I have a special sport version of the eight speed which came from the IS F of the same generation, but the regular transmission is more than adequate. I am a big guy and I like big luxury cars so I think going forward I am going to be looking at all the completion. I would consider getting the second generation of the 460 if I got the right options and price but I probably would not go to the 500 in part because it's much more cramped inside. Just don't expect the same level of reliability from the 460 models as you would have with the 430.
Great video. When you mentioned the seat adjustment for the rear passenger I thought of something amazing. I think that those two buttons are actually intended for the driver to use so he/she does not need to reach over the front passenger seat to move the seat up for rear passengers. More of a feature for the driver but also accesible by rear passengers. Great vid! I love my 13 year old Lexus.
I agree that this is definitely more reliable than the w220 Mercedes S-Class, but they’re not as bad you’d think. It’s a bad car, with good engines. These cars end up having electrical problems and air suspension problems etc, but the engines can last very long, with much less issues than the car itself. I have seen lots of members on forums that take their W220 S-Classes to 200k-275k miles. The engines and drive trains will be pretty reliable, but it takes lots of passion to want to keep everything working on these cars for 200k miles…
With four good brand snow + ice tires in the Colorado winters it transforms into a great snow car. I used to easily drive up I-70 to the ski resorts in my old 1992 Lexus LS400 with no problems. Sad the day I sold it with 250K miles.
Just recently got ahold on one of these recently for 4k off an old couple, literally same specs as the one in the video besides the navigation system. Cant wait for next week for it to arrive
I have a pearl white 04 ls 430 with the Ultra Lux package including the massaging/ reclining back seat and the radar cruise. The radar cruise is rudimentary as can be but the car as a whole is amazing. I love it and at 110k miles I hope to have it for the next decade!
What’s cool about the key thing , when someone gets in frm the passenger side they can start the car unlike the newer push button (foot on the brake ) cars. It is helpful when it’s 100 degrees outside and you are opening the car for your wife. Or if loading the trunk and passenger gets in they can start car.
Lexus got the magic formula here. 20 years developing the original LS platform before it ever came to market. They perfected it with this third generation and hit the sweet spot of performance and luxury. The CEO of Ford Motor Company, Alan Mulally refused to get rid of his LS 430 when he took over the company....no lie look it up. That ought to tell you something....
Am i the only one that actually finds the design of these cars super cool, i love early 2000s luxury sedans i dont know how anyone can say that “theres nothing cool about a gray lexus”
Naturally aspirated luxurious greatness that is reasonably cheap to buy & run. But crazy people still buy new BMW, Mercedes & co., that will highly likely bankrupt them. Insane world that we are living in!

My dad had an 05. Said it was the best car he ever owned.
RIP Pop !!
Interesting trivia: the Mazda 626 had oscillating vents back in the late 80s and 90s
I was going to say that, Tommy is a bit too young to experience that! 😄
@@mohanc2010 I will admit I wasn't aware this Lexus had the feature
You beat me to it. They kept them until they faded away in the early 2000s
Toyota Crown also had oscillating vents in the 80s.
Also the mx-6 2 door version my 1st car miss it so much!
The best Lexus ever made. My 2002 ES300 (4th gen ES) is a close runner up. Nice review
Love that body style LS, it’s such a well built luxury car. You don’t see that era Benz and BMW on the road which shows you their reliability!!!
lol come to my country and only 20-30 years old car you'll find will be either Mercedes or jalopy Ladas
@@seddam benz from 80s are obviously more reliable than the new ones lol
@@bubblelex5051 not even 80s, those are w210s,w202 and w124s
@@seddam wtf you talking about? W210 and 202 is from the 90s. You dont even know about benz bro get outta here lmao
@@bubblelex5051 I'm all about Benzes, the production years, colors, trims they were available with, production numbers, the engines etc.. lol
Lexus is the automotive embodiment of "Smart Money".
facts german cars suck
German engineering of its best...😅
Sweet! I just picked up my 2004 LS430 last week these things are tanks! Smooth as butter picked up mine with 128,000 in California just drove it back to Colorado as well 😎
My old LS430 was my pride and joy- sold it at 365k miles and it was still running smooth and comfortable inside - such great clean cars - reliability is unquestionable- engines are bulletproof, if you treat it right it will last you forever
Speed academy did an amazing job with their supercharged LS430
the 04-06 LS430’s were wayyyy ahead of its time.
The best of that series.
My grandparents bought a brand new 2004 Lexus LS430, thing had all the tech that cars today still don't have as standard or even options.
1. Oscillating AC vents
2. Dual Zone Climate Control
3. Headlights that turn with the steering wheel
4. Ventilated Seats
5. No physical key requirement in ignition
6. Proximity entry
7. Auto deployed rear windshield glare nets
8. Electronic steering wheel tilt
Thing was a beast.
The older LS's are so nice - one of the finest vehicles maybe ever!
Great old Lexus! My son got a perfect grandma babied ES300 for $1600. They may not be worth much when they're old, but they're great cars.
When you unlock it you just have to put your hand in the door the button is just for locking
Great video! My 430 is the exact same color and trim and has 188k miles. It's easily the best built car I've ever owned. I have no plans to sell mine either.
I’ve always wanted this LS design!!
I personally think this is the best design and reliability!
🤝 Yes it is I 100 percent agree that’s why I’m never getting rid of my 2006 Lexus LS430 💎🥰😎
Owner of a 93 LS400.
While I love the styling of the first gen LS400 more, my next lexus would either be a GS400, or a LS430 if I don't find another LS400 as near pristine as mine is!
(mine isn't absolutely perfect but it's near being pristine.)
I loved the older LS400 cars from the 1990s. I was born and raised around them, as a little kid, back then. Nostalgia!
'98-2000 are actually the best of the LS models.
The LS430 is one of best car ever made. They are not boring, The 4.3 engine is good enough to be used in planes..!! The quality is amazing. I have one and really enjoy it..
I had a 95 ls400 and hands down the most comfortable car I’ve ever been in. Worked great in the snow as well with snow tires. Miss that thing!
My 2006 Lexus GS300 is an amazing car for many of the same reasons that made this 05 LX so great... pure quality!
Love my 06 LS430 UL. Everything works and drives like a dream.
As a tall guy, I really love the way the steering column moves up when you turn the ignition off...
AND retracts.
Prices on these have been going up lately, this video won’t help me get an affordable second one, haha! Love mine, have had do very little to it since ownership. Just really want a silver one as a project car also.
He has a true masterpiece. Congratulations for saving a classic. Thanks for an absolutely brilliant review. Cheers from Canada.
1997-2004 lexus was just amazing I love the is gs ls and sc all very underrated cars. iykyk
I had a 2003 LS430 for 7 years, then purchased a 2013 LS460.
The 2003 had more options than my 2013.
I regret trading it in.
I'm proud of my "Grandpa Car!"
I own a 06 ls with the same sports wheels. The best car I ever owned as long as you maintain it you will never be disappointed
Never believe that fluid is good for the life of the car as some people will state
@@alexron2023 for real, but some people believe it. I just sold my '05. Had it for a little over 10 years. It was such a great car.
The dealer service replaced 1/3 of our transmission fluid every so many miles. If you did that, you were fine. My 430 was rock solid at 160K miles and I replaced it with a 460.
@@texlad04 how are you liking the 460, compared to the 430?
Most underrated car channel on RUclips.
I prefer these older Lexus than newer ones seems the older models had class.
I have to agree
With four good brand snow + ice tires in the Colorado winters it transforms into a great snow car. I used to easily drive up I-70 to the ski resorts in my old 1992 Lexus LS400 with no problems. Sad the day I sold it with 250K miles.
The oscillating vents were standard since the 80s in the Toyota Crown Royal Saloon, their pre-lexus era.
The oscillating vents are hardly the main point of interest in this review!😂
I drive it in the ❄️ 🌨 , it's more fun lol(just make sure you have decent winter tires). Greetings from Chicago suburbs.
Can you add few more words about radar? How it compares to modern ones?
What’s cool about the key thing , when someone gets in frm the passenger side they can start the car unlike the newer push button (foot on the brake ) cars. It is helpful when it’s 100 degrees outside and you are opening the car for your wife. Or if loading the trunk and passenger gets in they can start car.
for when it's 100 degrees- you can press the unlock on the fob for several seconds and it will open the windows and sunroof
@@michaele7859 love that feature on my 01 RX
One of my favorite vehicles I ever owned
I have a 2005 Lexus LS UL with only 56k miles. Love this car!
I love those. I'm buying one if I can find one in good shape.
I had a 94 mazda 626 back in A-day that had the exact same oscillating vents
cupholders in my dad’s old 2011 5 series broke after a year or two, you’re oh so right about those pop up cup holders
You did an Awesome job on this. Don't change your way you do these. Awesome
Currently in the market for one. Always liked this car
Naturally aspirated luxurious greatness that is reasonably cheap to buy & run. But crazy people still buy new BMW, Mercedes & co., that will highly likely bankrupt them. Insane world that we are living in!
It's true. I really don't get it. An old Merc of BMW is a major major financial risk. An old Lexus LS isn't a worry.
I own an old benz (w201) for fun and a Ls430 for the familly. Couldn't ask for a more reliale & confortable car.
Most empressive: The truck is actually larger than the trunk in my wife 2015 Outback with the seats up.
Don't do it Tommy, don't go full Demuro on us! LOL
Awesome review indeed!
I own a 2006 ls430 and its not as bad in the snow as you might think due to the weight of the vehicle. I live in Minnesota and it gets cold ! I have a second set of wheels/ tires -Michelin cross climate 2 and they are awesome in snow/ice.
I said that myself does great in the snow never getting rid of my 2006 Lexus LS430 💎🥰😎
If you’re a car enthusiast, you need to know about the LS
I don’t think he likes it tho…
These are such great cars. Incredible quality.
You should see the UL version mine has got so much more stuff. I got the PCS system, vibrating massaging seats that recline curtains that come up in the rear and all the sides. It’s quite a spectacle.
I had Adaptive cruise on my 2004 Lexus RX330, it was good with keeping distances between vehicles in traffic.. (Laser based)
Sat in the back seat of one… for someone that pays attention to detail; the back seat was simple but everything felt sooooo quality and solid👌🏼👍🏼 to the point were I considered buying one
If I lived in a warmer climate this is what I would drive. My 2008 GX 470 is great but it’s nothing like this when it comes to comfort and luxury.
The gx470 is another gem 💎!
Beautiful high quality wood and leather trims
Very nice cars!! I have purchased 3 -Lexus- -Lexuses- Lexi 🤦🤷.
Anyway I've had 3 all pre-owned and quite possibly the biggest bang for ur buck brand to buy used and I LOVE my GS.

I have an almost identical car w/ 178k,but with the LASER adaptable cruise control, which is a little fiddily to use.Mine has been a bit of a money pit[about 5k],but still is sublime out on the open road.
I wish the reviewers would stop going on about how great these cars are... THEY'RE DRIVING THE PRICES UP ON THEM AND MAKING THEM DISAPPEAR 😫😭

Looks just like my ‘05. Mine has 207k on it and I hope to put that many or more on it.
Looks great! just needs a high end cut and polish and interior re-fresh and it would be a total glamour.
I love all the talk about reliability, when he had to have the transmission rebuilt.
Yeah, that was very odd. Doesn't make sense at all. Maintenance not done? Sabotage? Severe abuse? Did it REALLY need a rebuild?
