    One thing that I have pondered on: We have absolutely no way of knowing whether blights happen in the other unknown parts of the world. What if the 'cataclysm' was a blight? Maybe there's only one Old God left? Or worse, none?

      Anco8899 wouldn't Wardens feel them one way or the other? Like see the dreams of the archdemons? Or is it distance based?

    • @Tanyara89
      @Tanyara89 6 лет назад

      iSultan Sultangaliev They might, but we really don't know:/ It might be distance based, or maybe it was detected but not written down (maybe in Weisshaubt) since nothing came of it (that was noticeable on this continent anyway). Or they detected it, but it was a long time ago and the records were lost. Or maybe it happened before the blights on "our" continent, before wardens existed.

    • @andrewvincent7299
      @andrewvincent7299 6 лет назад +7

      Anco8899 If that were the case then that would mean there are either more old gods on other lands or there are no old gods at all and Archdemons are just High Dragons corrupted by the taint. The Wardens know the locations of all of The Old Gods and they all seem to be in Thedas. Unless the Darkspawn have moved beyond Thedas underground, I'm pretty sure they're isolated to Thedas only. It was the Magister's who brought the Taint back from the Black City that created Darkspawn. So a similar event needs to happen or at least someone on another continent needed to go into the void or the black city to bring the taint back.

    I don’t think we will ever know about all these “beyonders” in the dragon age universe. It’s too bad because with everything you mentioned I could say that they could probably have enough for five or seven more games in this universe

      Id prefer 1-3 more "Dragon age" games - explaining Solas' attempt to make the Elves great again, The last and final blight - then one game that concludes the end of the dragon age - then i prefer us to go back a couple hundred years - say a game set during the very first blight - and the creation of the grey wardens aswell as letting the players experience Griffins - just my thoughts tho.

    • @LeonGun8

      Ladlaw actually confirmed that up until he left Bioware the team had already begun setting up a possible Dragon Age 5, so the franchise seems pretty alive enough that we MAY actually learn more of this unknown lands of Thedas. We ARE running out of worthy lands to see if Tevinter and Northern Thedas will be the next game's setting so I wouldn't be surprised if we're introduced to new areas soon enough.
      Heck, if some theories hold water and Solas actually succeds in his plan, maybe the possible destruction is the perfet excuse for the introduction of new lands that were either too well hidden or just hard to reach (like the western lands The Warden was seeking).

    • @piercedpeaches9404

      LeonGun8 lets just hope bioware replaces all the great writers that left :(

    • @LeonGun8
      @LeonGun8 6 лет назад +17

      Far as I remember the main loss to the team was David Gaider and he appointed Patrick Weekes as his replacement as lead writer of the franchise. ANd considering Patrick Weekes wrote some of the best Mass Effect setpieces and character storylines as well being responsible for the writing of some of the best DLC in the games IMO (Lair of the Shadow Broker, Leviathan and Citadel) one would say he has the writing chops for the job. In Dragon Age he is responsible for Solas, The Masked Empire novel, and the Tresspaser DLC in itself, so I dare say we are fine in terms of lead writer. So losing David Gaider shouldn't hurt Dragon Age the same way losing Drew did for the Mass Effect franchise.
      Though yes, having some decent writers for the characters themselves would help. Character storylines are as vital to immersing you into the game as the main storyline itself.

      One of the interesting things about the Thedas lore is that it isn't single layer, each aspect we don't see directly or meet someone who saw it directly, can be coming through a lens where twists, the dust of history blurring, and even lies can come into play. We can know the pyramids are there, they wouldn't be mentioned at all otherwise -- but as to who they are made by, we should remember to doubt and speculate about the motives of even sources within the canon itself.

    • @slattenlangpatten
      @slattenlangpatten 5 лет назад +5

      @@slattenlangpatten but that still fits here. The people of Thedas know there's lands beyond their own. It's common knowledge that the qunari are not native to Thedas. The Chasind know of the people that live in the tundra to the south. Multiple groups have tried to sail across the Ameranthine and failed to return (the story of the queen finding the abandoned colony is very reminiscent of Roanoke). And as far as trade, there's that port city in the Anderfels she mentioned. It's just that no one in Thedas has the means or the inclination to successfully move outside our map.

    How was the Tevinter name of that jungle spelled? I know Latin, so assuming Tevinter's language follows Latin pronunciation rules, I could figure it out.
    In general, Latin rarely has digraphs. (letters that combine to form a single sound i.e. ch, th, ph, etc.) There are some exceptions, like the ending -ae.
    Latin letters are pronounced differently than in English. Here's a quick rundown:
    o = long (sort of like "oh")
    i = always short (so like the "i" in "it".)
    v = w (pronounced like the "w" in "which")
    a = the word "a"
    c = hard pronunciation (pronounce it like you would a k. "c" as in "can".)
    j = y
    g = hard pronunciation ("g" as in "get")
    e = short ("e" as in "let")
    s = silent (like "snake")
    u = ooh
    t = hard t ("t" as in "touch")
    ae = long i (like the "i" in "like")
    That's as much as I can remember off the top of my head. R's are always rolled, but I'm not sure the Dev's would go that far. W's didn't exist in Latin, but that might not be a thing in Dragon Age. I also doubt the Dev's would pronounce V's like W's, as to the common gamer, that'd be confusing. Anyways, you should be able to figure it out fairly well with this.

    What I think is West of Thedas is possibly a few theories.
    Theory 1: West of Thedas is the Continent of Endiness from Legend of Dragoon. I mean it makes sense seeing how both games are dragon themed with a story of discovering the creation of the world, racism towards the non humans (Elves and Qunari of Thedas, Winglies and Gigantos of Endiness) and a colorful cast of characters.
    Theory 2: West of Thedas is the Continent of Fodlan from Fire Emblem Three Houses. Well both games are about the corrupt of nobility, religion and the horrors of war. Fun fact, Allegra Clark, the Voice of Josephine also did the voices of both Dorothea and Shamir.
    Theory 3: West of Thedas is the Witcher Continent. I mean both games are dark fantasies where the Elves and Dwarves are treated as second class citizens as they were forced out of their sacred kingdoms. Kingdoms and nobles war against one another for power while a powerful empire plots their demise, mages seek power and a land to rule for their own and an elite group of monster slayers are on the verge of collapsing.
    Theory #4: West of Thedas is the land of Alagaesia from the Inheritance Cycle. Both are similar in every way, Elves, Dwarves, Dragons, another race of horned giants that have a war like culture (Urgals of Alagaesia and the Qunari of Thedas). A land where an evil empire wishes to rule the world and wipe out the dragons.
    Theory #5: West of Thedas are the Governments of Ostania and Westalis from Spy X Family.
    Theory #6: West of Thedas are the various nations of the Continent where Full Metal Alchemist takes place.
    Theory #7: West of Thedas is the continent of Ivalice from Final Fantasy Tactics.
    Theory #8: West of Thedas is the Kingdom of Albion and nation of Aurora from the Fable series.
    Now lets figure out what's south of Thedas with a few theories
    Theory #1: South of Thedas is the Lands of the Jak and Daxter series
    Theory #2: South of Thedas is the continent of Nosgoth from Legacy of Kain.
    Theory #3: South of Thedas is the Kingdom of Hyrule and its various nations from the Legend of Zelda series
    Theory #4: South of Thedas is Kingdom of Heliopolis and the nations beyond from Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy.

    Wingless dragons in the northern jungle makes me think of the Chinese Lung dragon types. That’s always been a hc of mine
    I also headcanon that the veil ONLY affects Thedas, creating sort of a bubble. Which could explain how so little is known of the outside world and why outsiders are reluctant to interact with thedosians. Apparently the Voshai (presumably from the northwest outer lands across that sea) have no concept of elves? (All the elves are gone or were never there-there was a codex entry about it in DAI but I forget the details) And are super devoted and respectful of dwarves. Assuming elves (which are just spirits on the wrong side of the veil) are unique to Thedas it kind of makes sense, and could even loosely back up the Thedas-Veil bubble theory
    I also dislike how Thedas centered the worldbuilding is otherwise. The magical shenanigans of a subcontinent claimed to be the size of India by Gaider (but based on geographical biomes should be like the size of South America) affects the entire planet and everyone is subject to what’s going there? Idk man not my jam. Thedas being a shitshow and the lands beyond having their own issues (but indirectly affected by what happens there sure) is much more realistic and interesting

    I think I need to rant a bit about the "thedocentrism" of Dragon Age's worldbuilding. It seems like apparently all of the world-shattering events and phenomenon occur on just a small corner of the world? The rise of two humanoid magical races happened on Thedas. The Veil was created on Thedas. The Golden City was blackened and the Blights began on Thedas. It seems like the only important events that occured or were caused by peoples outside of Thedas was the foundation of the Qun and the rise of humanity. I feel like this is a very irritating facet of Bioware's writing for Dragon Age.

    • @thestitchwithsami
      @thestitchwithsami 5 лет назад +3

      An interesting way they could take this is if these super high-impact events on Thedas don't even register on a world scale. It's possible other things are going on elsewhere that we're just not privy to. What caused the Qunari to need to come here, were they fleeing from some great war that was so bad it chased off the most powerful army in Thedas, an army that it took all the other nations of Thedas banding together to repel and that still hasn't been completely defeated? What stopped the Voshai from trading for so long and stopped anyone from coming back from there?

  • @Cinerea777
    @Cinerea777 3 года назад

    (Probably something that someone else has already thought about, heh:)
    - "Qunari came from across the sea."
    - Executors live across the sea.
    - Some theorize that the Executors are elves that still serve Ghilan'nain.
    - In the Dalish legends, Ghilan'nain is the creator of various monsters, like the sea creatures from DA4 art concept.
    - In "The Horror of Hormak", we learn of weird-ass pools with lyrium and sea water that make monsters and have probably something to do with Ghilan'nain. (Or is it *confirmed* that they're connected to her?)
    - What if the Executors, as the followers of Ghilan'nain, created the Kossith (later Qunari)? Maybe they experimented with dragon blood on the elves from their group, made the oxmen, and then the lovely creation rebelled or something and ran to the west?

    The problem I have with games like this, the elder scrolls are just as guilty is that they have thousands and thousands of years pass with world ending events and only include a very small portion of the world. Like the blight or especially the fade rift seeming to affect at least to some extent all of thedas why has no one from the unknown areas come looking for answers to the random ass shit that happens. And in the example of TES with the oblivion gates, surely Mehrunes Dagon is looking to conquer all of nirn not just Tamriel so like what happened in akavir? We know a civilization exists surely some oblivion gates opened there and why would the Tsesi not send over at least some spies to be like "Yo what the fuck was that?"

    Theory spawned from this:
    Tamriel
    Tamriel is what is west of Thedas
    The Voshai were Dwemer, and the Cataclysm they speak of later might have been the disappearance of their people.
    The Northern Jungles are actually what The Empire knows as Akavir, which is not impossible since the maps of Akavir are in canon mostly speculation.

      Elder Scrolls was made by Bethesda, Dragon Age by Bioware. Though yes if Bioware was partnered with Bethesda this theory could make sense, unfortunately they aren't.

      Though that doesn't disprove your theory, there is a lot of evidence that could prove that they could take place on the same planet as both have two moons, the size of said moons, etc. I would actually for this theory to be true.

    Am I the only one to expect an Antivan expedition that settles durably in Amaranth ? Antiva is based on Spain/Venice, they have the Felicia Armada and people like Isabella (her name always reminds me of queen Isabella) and Josephine, who shows her curiosity for this land. Both of them are quite influent and have influent and rich friends in common to help them to organize such an expedition.

    Since the Vashi ONLY Wanted to trade for Lyrium AND they stopped AFTER the 3RD BLIGHT, ...... and ARE Dwarven,..... could they be a type of Sha-Brytol that are willing to Trade on the Surface....
    .. we KNOW the Sha-Brytol had Water filled caverns FULL of vegetation AND light, could it hint that they're close to the Ocean (Possibly they COULD be guarding a Different Titan!?)

    Isn't there some form of confirmation about another continent east of Thedas? I think there were attempts to settle it by people of Thedas but it's been too difficult.

    • @purpleghost106
      @purpleghost106 6 лет назад

      The one to the west is called Amaranth, it's mentioned in the video (If we ever see it, I wonder if it will be covered in Amaranth plants? hehe XD)
      The one humans came from is only mentioned very obliquely as a reference to a myth (rather than the myth itself) so I don't think we have a name for it in the lore.

    • @justastudent1423
      @justastudent1423 2 года назад

      Probably The jungles to the North are probably near the Equator, while the southern tundra aproach the southern polar circle. That would make Thedas about the size of South America on the north-south axis, maybe a bit smaller.

    The Executors could Solas's "people". By Trespasser it's obvious he had some elven network of his own which was presumably absent from the base game, except when Leliana manages to track down one of their agents.

    Sense this was a bit of a rush job and just something to fill in while your other video is still being worked on you probably didn't realise that we know of other Qunari iron bull calls them the kossith bull also says the storys are not clear but the Qunari had to leave so there is at least one place out side of thedas that has qunari and they don't follow the qun does this mean they act like the Vashoth or tal-Vashoth how knows they could even be the executives as far as we know
