Wow. An art lesson with worship on the side! Yes, I could feel the spirit with that one. You are a pleasure to watch paint and if people have a hard time with your references, well, nobody's forcing them to watch and they can move along. You're still here four years later. I think you're flying under the radar. Holy Spirit cloaking. God bless!

I love your painting and the praise and worship music! God has blessed you with a wonderful talent that you use to glorify Him and I pray that He will continue to bless you

Susan I'm new to painting. I love your work. Please never change. Great to see the love gor our Creator in your work. Greetings ...all the way from Windhoek Namibia.
I am finding I’m really drawn to artists that are glorifying our Lord before I even know they are also believers. It’s so uplifting and I find it so encouraging to use my time creating for really being in the moment of gratitude to Him for the gifts and space to create he’s given me.
Almost 2 months ago I was in an accident where my right wrist and elbow were basically crushed. I have to do therapy for several hours a day, and it HURTS! Your beautiful videos help me to endure so that I can get the full use of my arm and hand back. Thank you for the inspiration, that makes it even more helpful. I was praying that I could find the strength to do this, and I believe that you are an answer to this prayer.
Elizabeth Ann White hi Elizabeth, I just read your message again and wanted to let you know how it blessed me. I pray you have healed and I hope you are blessed 💜☺️❤️
You should never have to apologize for something you feel passionate about in my opinion. Be who you are and make no apologies. I may not believe everything someone else does but my spirituality and my art are never something I make excuses for or try to explain to anyone else they are as much a part of me as the color of my eyes. Frankly I don't care what religion or spiritual path a person follows if it makes them a more loving tolerant person. My creator made me like no other ever, uniquely myself...I like that.
Never apologize Susan. Your are uplifting in so many ways. And even though I’m not a ‘religious’ person, I love worship music. And this painting is gorgeous. I just got my first set of pan pastels and am looking forward to using them for my underpainting. Thanks for your wonderful videos.
Love your instructions and commentary. I double love this video as you have the courage to be yourself and play the music you enjoy. One of the reasons I watch your pastel videos more than any other is that you have freely shared your God given talents with us as part of your beliefs. Also like your artwork! 💗

I have been away from pastel painting for a year almost. But then I found you on youtube again and I was so totally inspired, that I started a painting right away. I can tell it's a part of you and your artistic process and I for one like that you are absolutely yourself on your channel and even on Monet Cafe. For me having watched a ton of RUclips video's and seeing people somewhat sell themselves out for views, it's very refreshing to see someone just be themselves with no regard for the financial aspect. Susan Keller ... oh ha ha!!! I have a friend from HS named Susan Keller and this whole time I thought that’s who you were. So glad you straighten that out, but I would’ve liked to have been friends with you in high school too! Do you have one of the plastic pan pastels palette trays?
I have the pallet tray and some of the mixing mediums and most of the tools! Need to start working with them. Been working with soft pastels for about a year now and enjoy them immensely. Enjoy your videos-very helpful & Inspiring!
Just love your style and colours Anne from South Africa. Just started on pastels unfortunately we don’t have all the wonderful materials you have in America very grateful for your generosity in your tutorials
Please don't try to change who you are.... a little bit of southern drawl is so appealing and comforting. I love listening to you, AND I'm learning a lot!! I did my first pastel painting the other day. Not wonderful, of course, but really fun to do. I know I will be doing more. I'm off to the country (Victoria, Australia) for a few days and hope to get some good photos. Thanks for all your help and encouragement. Carol

I think I would like to use the pan pastel as regular pastels are so messy. I watched a video of an artist who uses them as well as the pencil pastels with beautiful results. Love the idea of having tools with them.
Beautiful worship, I was feeling the other music was so repetitive I almost turned it off then that beautiful song redeemed (!) it, good job. Stunning work.
Just got my first pan pastels in blues as I wanted to do some skies and oceans as they are my favorite landscapes to look at. Just started at age 66... So I am a real beginner to at art on paper. I found this video and learned so much. Thanks!

A personal belief should be just that - PERSONAL!!! I love the way Susan paints, but I don't want to know what she does in the bedroom, bathroom, or with her imaginary gods.
Lovely painting. I noticed you mainly used the Pans for background then gave the painting that final boost of colour with soft pastel. I use the Pan Pastels the same way whether doing a landscape or animal as although easy to use, I find they just don't have that impact in colour like soft pastel does. Yes I did learn something new though, thank you!
Awesome... I will say that I had some before (just a few), but I didn't have the plastic palette tray that you can see in this video. It made such a difference for convenience and ease of use. I can't remember how much it is, but I do recommend it. ;)
Another comment, something to amuse you, you mentioned the slow Internet, the other day I made an AV of a few of my photos, with music which our local Photo Club wanted us to upload to our Facebook group, the "video" was 18 mins long and took me one and a half hours to upload. Loved your music, when I paint, I listen to sermons and Christian talks, mostly, sometimes music, I too like Gods inspiration while I work. Thanks.
Only just into this video and already I am learning stuff I didn’t know. You really are The Best. Oh and by the way your son looks very dishy indeed... but you don’t look old enough. First thought: it was your husband. :) Thanks again, Susan - for all the time and effort you put in.
Love this video. Hope I've not commented before 😲 sorry for complaints, I enjoy. These are such great products. Sometimes as you said can overwhelm with supplies vs money or too many mediums but that is the artistic journey. Thank you for sharing your work work and process in video 😲💖🌺🦋🌵😀
Enjoying your video, from South Africa, just bought the sketching set of pan pastels, have a few soft pastels and hard pastels, basic colours plus a set of 24 Derwent pastel pencils plus a few loose pastel pencils, charcoal etc, basically self taught in oils, water colours and done short online courses with coloured pencil, graphite drawing and charcoal. No courses on pastels, love them though and played around a little, so enjoy the videos on pastels, which I have just discovered. On the side, in South Africa we say loodweegh, for Ludwig, since we are descended from Dutch, German and other Europeans. Germans would pronounce the "g" harder than that.
I love your artwork. I wish I could slow down and pick and match colors like you do but I just dive in paint and make a huge mess every single time. My stuff comes out pretty good but I think it could be much better if I slowed down...any tips on how to do that?
Oh Toni, I actually can relate to that. I have had a tendency to overwork my paintings and also be too heavy-handed. I suggest to keep a super light touch and back up from your painting often. Also, try working for 15 minute intervals, and walk away for a while in between. It may sound inconvenient, but it's good to get away from our paintings and come back with fresh eyes. Try recording your painting process and review it afterwards. I have identified many of my shortcomings by simply watching my own videos replayed. Hope that helps and keep painting!
@@monetcafe yep helps a lot. One more question, sometimes i see the dots from the watercolor paper (where the charcoal just doesn't seem to want to get in)...there are lil tiny dots . I can't see them till I upload a pic...How to get in there ?? drives me nuts
HI Susan. I'm really getting into PanPastel, I love it as an underpainting, like you demonstrated here. I'd like to get this set that you have. Do you know the name of this set? I'll probably order them from DickBlick. Is that the Dawn Emerson set of 80? You're SO lucky to have these products sent to you to try them out. Thank you for the demo, it was very helpful.
Hi Renee, gosh… I’m not sure if the colors were in a set or if I ordered them individually. I think I chose the colors myself. Wish I could help with that more. The people that are at pan pastel company are awesome. Usually they will answer lots of your questions.
@@monetcafe That's okay, Susan. I ended up getting the entire set. lol I'm spending my social security money as I just turned 65. Whoo-hoooo. That is ONE thing about gettin old, ya know? lolI am having trouble getting my colors to blend though using Canson MiTeintes paper. Les Darlow uses MiTeintes for his panpastel paintings and I've asked him about that (the problem of blending it on the Canson paper) but he never gets back to me. I think I've asked him the same question on 3 different tutorial videos he has done in the past 2 years and I've never heard back. Maybe one day? . .
Do you spray your art work with anything after your done? I just got some Pan pastels and after I got done I sprayed it with the final Fixative and it made it darker and kind of recked it. Any ideas?
wendy walker oh sweetheart, I wish I could’ve told you before you sprayed it. I never spray my final paintings because of what you just said. It almost always darkens the final result. I am playing around with a product right now that might be a bit better than some of the others and I hope to have a video available soon. But for now, it’s best not to spray a final pastel painting. I have found that pastel paintings can be protected quite well prior to framing in clear plastic bags. I use a company called www.clearbags.com.
I have recently discovered that pan pastels work nicely on surfaces that aren’t overly sanded. I want to try it on Pastelmat because it is rather smooth yet still takes a lot of layers.
Can you do more videos using the panpastels I just bought a set and I’m trying to figure them out. Lol. There’s not many videos that show in. The loose style
Lorna Barrowman ... it’s actually some very dark Terry Ludwig pastels. One of the colors I know off the top of my head is named “egg plant“. It’s a great dark and almost appears as black.
So sad, Susan, that you were criticized for your faith in God and how He is a part of who you are and how you are inspired by Him in your paintings. It is so sad to me that people are offended by people of faith, they want us to keep our faith hidden, in the closet, but they applaud those who come out of the closet as homosexuals, etc. Now, if you were talking of your faith in Buddha or some other false God, or any new age beliefs, they'd be okay with that. I agree with Julie, down below. Love your tutorial videos, Susan, thank you so much for taking the time to make these and post them. I am learning so much. God bless you and keep on shining for Jesus. Those of us who know and love Him, see Him working through you, in the talent He has given you to paint His creation.
Renee Kroyer bless your sweetheart. It is so precious for me to get messages like this from other believers.Everything you wrote is exactly true. Yet we know God’s Word said it would be this way... not only would believers be persecuted but the world would call evil good and good evil. Let’s keep sharing the gospel to a lost world. God bless you sweetheart!
@@monetcafe You are right, Susan. Jesus said that if they hated Him, they'd hate us. It is heart breaking. I have so many friends who don't know Jesus and when I share Him with them, they are not interested, feel they have no need of Him. Hugs to you and thank you again for sharing your expertise with pastels. I am learning so much from your videos. God bless you and yours. Renee
Renee Kroyer wow, how wonderful that you work with Billy Graham‘s association. I’m loving what Franklin Graham is doing to further the kingdom. It is indeed so hard to see those we love who have rejected our Lord and yet we continue to share the love of Christ and pray the Holy Spirit will open their hearts and eyes. We often experience such a hate filled words and anger as we share the gospel and are not ashamed to profess Jesus, but God told us it would be this way and thus we press on and know that… “To live is Christ and to die is gain.“ Oh, and I live in the Tampa Florida area but I am also in a more rural location. Blessings and love sweetheart.
@@monetcafe How cool. I have 2 friends who live in the Tampa area. Beautiful place to live. I follow them on Facebook and get all kinds of updates from him, especially as a volunteer for PeaceWithGod.net God is truly doing amazing things in our world. God bless, Renee
I'm not what most people would consider a Christian, but I totally support your right to express your beliefs through your content on your channel. I love your videos and paintings, and I'm learning a lot through your examples, suggestions and instruction. Please keep it up as is
While you may not be a Christian, you exemplify the Christian heart by your response. Sadly, the concept of "Christian" has been tainted by many who forget that Christ came to earth to love and forgive. Thanks so much for your kind comment and I will carry on with videos and positive encouragement. :)
My husband’s name was Ludwig and he was from Germany. His family pronounced his name “Loodvish”. English speaking people seem to have difficulty with this for some reason and called him “Loodvig” or even “Loodwig”. Hope this helps.
Wow, thank you so much for that information. I happen to know one of the owners of the company and to my knowledge they pronounce their last names with the English dialect. I like the German one better though!
There should be subtitles. Just look for the little "cc" icon at the bottom of the video. :). I understand about being a bit deaf. I have to use closed captions a lot myself. :)
I stumbled across you on RUclips. I am a Christian having an incredible dark time. I have lost hope and feel despair. I keep praying for healing but he seems silent. I need a miracle I really do. I am suffering from acute anxiety and depression. The tablets they have tried haven’t worked because my body doesn’t cope with side effects. You sing away.
That's okay.... I'm thankful that I can share free lessons, express who I am, and still make friends with non-believers. Truly, we all have more in common than we do different. Blessings!!!.... oh, Whoops.... scratch that, LOL! ;)

@@65sunnyday You have a right to that opinion sunnyday :) I appreciate your comment and hope you'll see the beauty in spite of our differences. :)
I really enjoy your pastel paintings. I just painted some tinted gesso in my sketchbook, excited to start practicing this impressionistic style.
great video - that really has convinced me on getting some pan pastels to try out for my underpaintings.
Awesome... I will say that I had some before (just a few), but I didn't have the plastic palette tray that you can see in this video. It made such a difference for convenience and ease of use. I can't remember how much it is, but I do recommend it. ;)
Great process Susan 👌 I like seeing the finished piece of art....will definitely have to try this out.
You are so sweet Victoria! I’m glad you’re enjoying the lessons.
Belloooooooooooooooo. Intersanting thank you.
Thank you Jesus for your grace!
Hallelujah brother🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻💜
I love your Christian music
Art Spectrum actually has a line of papers for Pan Pastele. Just thought you'd like to know. It's formulated to work with the Sofft Tools
Wow.... I didn't know that. I'll have to get some. Thank you!
Painting is prayer...
I can't see them till I upload a pic...How to get in there ?? drives me nuts
lovely~!!
Regarding pan pastels , I have a question. Would pearlescent white sparkle up white water in my painting?
@@monetcafe Thank you and I will keep posted on your videos and Thank you for your fast response
I’m just starting with panpastel. All I have is cold press watercolor paper. Didn’t seem to work well. What paper do u recommend?
I have recently discovered that pan pastels work nicely on surfaces that aren’t overly sanded. I want to try it on Pastelmat because it is rather smooth yet still takes a lot of layers.
Can you do more videos using the panpastels I just bought a set and I’m trying to figure them out. Lol. There’s not many videos that show in. The loose style
I just ordered 3 micro sets of unison reds and oranges blues and greens……is it worth the money? 51$ w tax for 24 of their pastels
Yes, Unison pastels are top of the line and that's a good price. Their micro sets are great.
Is that black you are using on the foreground tree?
Lorna Barrowman ... it’s actually some very dark Terry Ludwig pastels. One of the colors I know off the top of my head is named “egg plant“. It’s a great dark and almost appears as black.
Love the video, thanks so much. Also love Jackson! We have a Boston named 'Petey; and American Bulldog named 'Jackson' Guess who's in charge :-)
Oh, how cool. :). I'm assuming your Boston is in charge.... ha ha!!! So glad you liked the video :)
@@monetcafe Yep, definitely 'Petey" the Boston is in charge! Thanks
Blinded by the god of this world, but I keep praying for them because we know that if we pray according to His will, He hears us and answers us and we know that it is His will that none should perish. I am a volunteer with Billy Graham Evangelistic Association on-line evangelism, working as an email coach. I answer people's inquiries that come in through email. It is a wonderful opportunity to share the love of Jesus with others who are searching. What city do you live in? I am in northern San Diego county, town of Valley Center. We live in a very rural area here, new transplants from living in northern California for 35 years. We were blessed to find a good church family here.
We are blessed, also, to live in the San Diego area, although with our weather the last 4 days of rain and cold wind, you'd think we were in Detroit or some such. lol Yes, I too, love Franklin Graham and all that he is doing. I follow them on Facebook and get all kinds of updates from him, especially as a volunteer for PeaceWithGod.net God is truly doing amazing things in our world. God bless, Renee
@@monetcafe Susan -- are you on Facebook? If so, I'll send you a friend request.
What kind of paper did you use for this painting? Was it sanded? Thanks!
Renee Kroyer hi Renee.... I’m fairly certain this was UART sanded paper. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😉 happy Painting!
@@monetcafe Okay, thanks! Beautiful painting, as always.
Pets in the studio make art better. It's proven that humans relax more with pets around.
As for me, there is always the mute option.
I would get a lot more benefit if you included subtitles as I am quite deaf
There should be subtitles. Just look for the little "cc" icon at the bottom of the video. :). I understand about being a bit deaf. I have to use closed captions a lot myself. :)
ooops I thought this was a recent video...
Enjoyed the art in your video but not the religion!
That's okay.... I'm thankful that I can share free lessons, express who I am, and still make friends with non-believers. Truly, we all have more in common than we do different. Blessings!!!.... oh, Whoops.... scratch that, LOL! ;)
Your audio is always so distorted...
Marcotronic ... so sorry, I’m working on a limited budget since the flooding of my home last year. We hope to have our lives back to normal soon, and perhaps I can buy a better mic. Blessings 💜
never mind :) (It's not only the voice over through the mic - the music is distorted, too btw ;) )
Marcotronic thanks for letting me know. I’ll hopefully be able to figure it and and get it fixed 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
you're welcome :) Wonderful pastel painting, by the way (as always!) :)
