    I’ve had my fair share of issues with my 07 e63amg’s belts. It’s snapped on me 6 times. I decided to stop buying Mercedes belts and go with a Continental Elite 4060930 Poly-V/Serpentine Belt. It hadn’t broken since.
    As this fellow mentioned: those pulleys do break on post facelift cars. Keep an eye on them. I still have belt shreds stuck in the engine bay from exploded pulleys.

    • @glasser2819
      @glasser2819 4 года назад

      the real KEY to this belt and reduced performance ENIGMA is.... a purposely built weak belt TENSIONER that keeps the belt under tightened and sleeping over all accesories to destroy pump, alternator, AC, idlers...
      After 50+KMi the tensioner literally digs itself a hole where it has been oscillating from the belt wobble (crankshaft rubber insulator) and stops putting proper tension on the old soft belt... everything starts sleeping, belt gets older, steering pump pressure surges, high speed alternator pulley kills itself with the plastic idlers - If you neglect the tensioner replacement all the accessories turn into a profit center.
      Besides this nugget: the computer super precisely monitor the crankshaft rotation to calculate the exact spark and injection timing - When the belt sleeps even lightly you get liw rpm engine vibrations and reduced power by lean mixture (02 sensor feed back).
      Long story short...
      you changed your engine mounts but engine still shaking, look no further: stupid tensioner kit from FCP Euro - Do it every 50kMi with modern cars (including Japanese cars engineered by Bosch guys)
      👍

      I recommend greasing the idler pulleys, its such a quick and cheap job its a no-brainer. They will never fail, literally never. Even when new, pack them with a quality high temp bearing grease; they come with a small amount from the factory, ina or not.

    In tank fuel filter assembly is something to consider as well, small filter bag gets loaded up and plugged up with dirt and overheats the pump to the point of failure

      you'll notice better engine power with more low end torque after driving 2 to 3 weeks unless you can reset engine adaptations (not the transmission).
      Engine computer monitor crankshaft rotation super closely to calculate injection and spark timings. When the belt slips, the timing gets erratic and computer leans out the mixture and create lean misfires... random engine shake with no codes. By that time it drives like an old car until new belt tensioner kit is replaced, thanks to Kyle at FCPe

    Yeah the long oil change intervals are ridiculous on German cars. I change oil every 6 months or 7500 km. It's even more important now on modern cars to change oil more often than recommended since they're turbocharged, have smaller oil sumps and drive a lot more heat and stress since they're pushing a lot of HP per liter of displacement.

      let me add something you've left out! The serpentine TENSIONER is the one item that is guaranteed to cause a lot of abuse once it gets pegged in (60kMi) - Belt tends to stretch under load and slip over accessories then gets cooking hot, dries out idlers bearing that crack under heat.
      While slipping at driving rpm, belt surges regulators in Alternator and Steering pump. So don't delay TENSIONER kit swap.
      Furthermore most cars including Japanese feature this wonderful German money maker, namely a short lived TENSIONER!

    Idler pulley every two years? Power steering fluid every two years? Cleaning transmission filters and solenoids? Coming from old Hondas that probably NEVER have that stuff changed these maintenance intervals seem crazy to me. Is this just for overly cautious owners?

    • @RothBeyondTheGrave
      @RothBeyondTheGrave 4 года назад +1

      I get you, & this used to seem equally crazy to me. I've driven Japanese for the last 20 or so yrs, but recently picked up a c207 (2010 e350 coupe). These cars work their best when all systems are in top working order & have a lower tolerance for faults. The maintenance is like a constant "refresh", where Japanese just have simpler more resilient components which generally last longer, but may not always be at optimal levels of functionality. They're working, but maybe not as good as they could/should & that is certainly enough to keep it on the road. My '03 tl had 3 transmissions. My '10 tsx had a bad vsa modulator sensor which is unfixable (only Acura replacements which will also fail again) for over $2,000 causing 90% loss of brake function. You can't rebuild your own transmission 3 times, but you can maintain these cars with help from AMAZING resources like fcp & avoid the "money pit " issues ppl suffer because they don't yet know Asian car & Euro ownership are 2 different worlds.

      @@RothBeyondTheGrave Fair enough. If more frequent minor maintenance means less frequent major maintenance, then I'll agree the European mindset isn't too crazy.

      @@TheEquationSlayer yeah exactly. That's the idea at least! When I started digging deep it does seem there's narrow windows of "safe" examples, while some really are straight up money pits. Like some things that are GUARANTEED to fail on bmws will probably NEVER fail on a honda/acura or toyota/lexus
