thank you for this video. i was actually wondering, as a beginner, if it is better to start out just shipping to one country (like USA) or to selected countries. I thought that will lessen any miscommunication particularly with language barrier or with differing timezones. so i was pleasantly surprise when Emma mentioned her tip around 20:20...mentioning to try it out with the 4 main countries. love this video!
Hi there! Thanks for your comment. Starting with 1-5 countries is a good way to test markets. Consider countries that offer ePacket solutions (bit.ly/2H17kWn). 🙂 -Jasper
So i have a question :) Say you found your product that you can sell - how do you go about getting your own "Brand logo" on product from supplier. would you do a test buy to yourself before starting your shipping. How how many days is good shipping for a new shop? Ive found some interesting products that i use in my everyday work that could easily be sold online and to the buisness im already working in. Also what is a good starting budget to start this adventure!
Some suppliers will do this for you if you ask, but most of the time you will have to order it in bulk from the factory to have the logo put on. That is no longer dropshipping, it's called "white-labeling" - If you still want to dropship the product then you may need to just customize the packaging inside. You can put the logo on the box, bubble mailer and inside any coupons/inserts in the package. Also, if you can find a supplier that ships from the USA for a good price, then that's perfect! But most of us us Chinese shipping. if it's epacket then you can sometimes get packages to the USA in 7-14 days (assuming the supplier ships within 48 hours) Starting budget wise.. you can start with $10! But it'll take a longer time and require much more effort on your part due to getting sales in organic/free ways. But if you want to start with ads then I'd recommend at least $500 to play with. Hope that helps! You can find a ton more info like this in our new Facebook Group: "Ecom Explorers" 😀 😀 All the best
Hey there! Awesome questions. To have your own logo on the products you will need to contact the supplier and ask them if that is something they can do. If you're not sure how to contact a supplier you can check out this help doc (bit.ly/35lafFd). You should test the products you buy so you can have full faith in them, so ordering samples is always great. When it comes to shipping the fastest is always best, but it can be expensive. I suggest using ePacket shipping as it takes 20 days to be delivered on average. For your budget the more you have the better. There isn't a specific number I tell people but if your budget is on the higher end then it will help when running ads and other marketing. Let me know if you have any other questions for me. 😀 -Kitana
Emma Reid Hi Emma, if I am totally new, no products yet, how many items should I be testing to find a winning product? Will this be simultaneous testing? Did you make your own ads before testing?
@@realemmareid Engaging in real human interaction...just like you are now... ;-) Also...the beginning bit of making sure that you are ready for scaling when the time comes. So much value here. thank you so much!! It honestly opened my eyes on the different opportunities there are in drop shipping. I have so many questions.
What's your take on dropshipping products from AliExpress' Top Brands suppliers. They kind of offer an additional layer of reliability. Most whom I have spoken with, they will drophip but prohibit you from removing their brand identity from the marketing materials. Do you recommend revealing the brand and showing their Logos on ad materials or would you not recommend Top Brands at all?
Hey there! Excellent question. If you go into a regular retail store you will find lots of products from different suppliers, with different brand names. So it's not a detriment to have those brands displayed in your store. And those suppliers have awesome marketing collateral for you to use, bonus! 🙂 -Jasper
I haven't used them or considered it actually! Partly agree with Jasper up there, but if you're looking to build your own brand or long term store then it's probably not a good idea. I'd rather take something unknown and unbranded with the hopes of being the first to scale it massively and dominate the space. Still money to be made selling their products though so it's all up to what you want to do really 🙂
@@realemmareid Actually this video just ensured to me something very important, not the product which can be saturated but the audience which can be saturated

Hi Emma, great insight in this video Thank you. I like your idea about starting organically. Just a quick question. Lets say hypothetically i have a water bottle store (infused water bottles) then are you saying i should find Instagram posts or finding an instagram influencers and then commenting about the product?
Hi there! Great question. We do not offer advice on the legal aspects of setting a business. Partly because our audience is global and it varies from country to country and partly because we are not tax professionals. It's best to check in with a local tax professional who has a sense of how eCommerce laws govern your country, state, or province. 🙂 -Jasper
Hey I’m just wondering, and I could be totally off here but to the point of having to keep your product page very generic and letting your different ad sets be niche focused - couldn’t you have two different product pages (on your one product store) for the same product? One page that continues to reinforce, for instance the festival goers angle and have the copy surround that niche and another page for the reusable niche?
Hey Emma, how did you engage an audience on instagram for your products? It seems everything you spoke about was like cold selling and I can imagine that comes off as very sales-y. Just wanted to know! Thank you.
There's a really good thread on this inside the Ecom Explorers group on facebook. You should hop in there and check it out! Definitely DONT cold sell, spam, or make it all about you and your product. Talk to the customers like we are right now. Your product can tie into it later when the conversation is already started. But mostly you want to be posting good content and engaging a lot with the audience to get noticed 😊
Hey Emma! Congrats on your Oberlo feature 🥳 I have a question regarding facebook ads. What campaign type did you start with when you had zero pixel data (engagement or conversions) and what campaign types are you running now?
Thanks!! For the 560k store, I actually started with PPE and scaled to quite a high number with that alone. It was the most profitable method for me at the time. Though my new store that's done 170k so far, I started with Website Conversions (purchase pixel) straight away. But I did test the product out using organic traffic before ads (instagram audience). So there were a few purchases recorded. This doesn't really matter though, I recommend starting by running Conversion ads. Always best to do your own tests as well :)
Hello, please I want to ask that how do you deal with fulfilling an order to customer who has ordered 5 different products and the 5 products have 5 different suppliers? Would you just have that the customer receives 5 different packages and at 5 different times say if the 5 products have 5 delivery time?
Hey there! Awesome question. You would need to fulfill the order as usual and order it from the different suppliers. You can let your customers know that the packages will arrive separately and you should be very transparent about the shipping times on your website. To avoid this you will want to only import products from one or two suppliers so they arrive all at once. 😀 -Kitana
I'm really glad you enjoyed the video! What were your biggest takeaways from it? 😊 Also as for women's fashion.. yeah it's SUPER competitive, but can still be done. The main thing I don't like about clothing in particular is the high return rate. Because of sizing issues and people not liking how clothes fit, they tend to return a lot of items. This just gets made worse if the pieces run small due to Chinese sizing. Accessories on the other hand should be okay. But can be hard to sell them as many people are already doing the same thing. If you find something unique enough though (or put an interesting marketing spin on it) then you may be able to break through to the audience. Hope that helps!
Hello there! I would like to ask: I want to build 2 shopifty stores. One is my brand. The other is other products. Do you think this is good? What are the first things to do if you start operating these two stores? Please give me pointers. Thank you!
Hey there! The first thing to note is that you can sell your personal, branded products in parallel to Oberlo products in one store. If you don't want to do that, that's totally fine, but it's an option. Operating two stores can be done, but you will need to have two separate subscriptions to Shopify. To learn more about dropshipping with Oberlo, check out this awesome prerecorded webinar (bit.ly/2u4d3q0). And get started for free right here at Shopify.com (bit.ly/2Jzh2jg). -Jasper
I have a big question. There’s one thing affecting dropshipping, and that is that if you get your product from a supplier in China (Alipress) or from different countries inside Europe, and ship it to, for example, United States, having a blocked access to flights from those countries, therefore, making it hard, maybe not impossible, but how would you ship your product from China to a country with those limitations?
@@realemmareid oops sorry I meant away from Aliexpress, so in your example of working privately with a supplier - how do you manage those orders? Is that through Aliexpress as well? Really appreciate you all taking the time to answer questions!
@@deepoulsen4213 Okay so, working with a private supplier/agent, you will usually contact them through a chat platform. For example, skype, wechat, slack etc. And then either export a CSV sheet full of your orders to the daily (and have them send back tracking codes to import to shopify). OR in my case, they connect to your store with an app Called "Dianxiaomi(店小秘)" - it syncs everything up. Not every agent or supplier uses that though
Can you please explain more about the organic sale? Is a matter of just posting the items on your Instagram account page only using hashtags & not spending actually ad money?
No problem, I'm really glad you enjoyed the video! What were your biggest takeaways from it? 😊 As for the earring product.. it depends. Do you mean literally a "abstract human face" earring? Because I googled that and it looks interesting . Can definitely see a store being built around that. You'll have to really get into the heads of your target customer though and understand them. Jewelry can be tough as it doesn't solve a problem. It's more emotional and wanting to express yourself and who you are
@@realemmareid thanks a lot for this advice. So I am actually thinking of making it an abstract store, with products ranging from clothing(t shirts and sweatshirts) jewelry, and home decor. Instead of just and earring store. Is this a good idea? And yes
Hi there! Yes, it definitely helps to have a cashier float in order to make purchases before the money from your customer posts to your bank. Otherwise, it can cause shipping delays while you wait for the funds to be released to your bank account. If you need more clarification, or if I’ve misunderstood the context of your question, please let me know. I want to make sure you get the answer you’re looking for. 🙂 -Jasper
Yeah it got a bit wild 🤣 I know better now! Sometimes people who work for themselves get so stuck into it and either A: don't trust other people to do it right, B: Enjoy it too much, C: don't know how to manage other people, or D: are scared for other reasons
Hi Emma/Jessica, If people brought up-sells from your site, what if they were going to be shipped separately from suppliers, how would you handle this with customers? Greta video by the way.
Hey there! Good question. With any store you want to think about this. You will either need to tell the customer that the products are arriving separately, or you can use one supplier only in your store. That way all products would ship together. The choice is yours. Thanks for the question. 🙌 -Kitana
Emma: Since the product is coming from China-- do customers get upset because the product takes like 30 days to get to them or is this something that you would tell them on your website?
They don't get upset if you're honest and transparent. You don't have to say china, but "international warehouse" works. Or even just have the shipping time plastered everywhere. On the cart page, at checkout, in shipment notification emails etc. So they know it will take a while. It reduces the amount of purchases you get (and the conversion rate) of the store, but it's very worth it. Lots of upset customers = facebook and paypal bans.
@@realemmareid Your honesty. Compared to others you were transparent about your mistakes, your issues in scaling and weren't afraid to talk real numbers, even profit. Personally after watching soooo many videos on dropshipping, even Amazon FBA etc... I think everyone is so tired of just seeing the clickbait... this person made 2 mil in 3 months etc etc...with no real proof of what their profit really was. Which as we know in the end is the only thing that matters and will keep a business afloat. Cause a person can make and claim 1 Million in sales in a year but if they had crazy issues with the product, returns, ads etc etc... maybe they only made 25K in profits... who knows but they sell the viewer this big lie. So good on you. Hope you keep being open and honest about your journey. Thanks for sharing.

There's a really good thread on this inside the Ecom Explorers group on facebook. You should hop in there and check it out! Basically, go through the hashtags and find people that are in your target audience (aka, people with dogs would probably buy a dog collar) and interact with them. Have real conversations related to what they posted. And try to post 100 comments on 100 different people's stuff every day. Consistently. This will build "know like and trust" factor and start growing an audience for you. Definitely DONT cold sell, spam, or make it all about you and your product. Talk to the customers like we are right now. If it fits then your product can tie into it later when the conversation is already started. But mostly you want to be posting good content and engaging a lot with the audience to get noticed 😊
1000 000$ in one year!? congratulations.... I will wait until I finish view the video. But I have so far a very disappointing experience with Oberlo products. However, I'm still here following every tutorial and advices until I convince that oberlo it's not good or there is a problem in the country I live in that nobody wants to wait 15 days for a product. also there are a log of negative feed back in the products recommended in previous videos. :(
Thank you! It was only 560,000 though! Anyway..... the good thing is that since you're dropshipping, you can ship to any country! You're not limited to selling in just your country. Yes a lot of people don't like waiting for delivery. But you'd be surprised how many do! If you product is unique enough they usually don't mind. It helps to provide a reason as well though. Such as "it's in high demand, we have to ship straight from the factory" etc.
@@realemmareid. Yes been doing some research on Facebook, but so far the groups don't allow people from out of the country, and I refuse to pay facebook ads, I already spend too much money. :/ , By the way, the articles in the list they have a lot of bad reviews, i guess i have to buy the products myself to see if its really good. however, as I'm dropshipping from Canada it cost a Fortune send the packpage back, i made hat mistake once and im still waiting for a response from the supplier concerning if they have received the merchandise (i spend 100$ "80 for the merchandise and 20 to shipping ). Tricky, and i think none of the products recommended in this video accept free return. if you know a way to test the product and don't pay back the shipping please let me know. Cheers.
I am currently drop shipping toilet paper from aliepxpress. Currently, there are suppliers that are lying about US shipping and the shipping times. They are not shipping from within the US, the tracking information suppliers are providing all shows in route from China. Also, they are promising 4-13 day shipping, this is not true. It's been almost 3 weeks from getting tracking codes and they're still not delivered

Don't lean on it for long though, make your own as soon as you have some revenue. 🙂 -Jasper

Hi Jessica just wondering if you could make a video about the legal side of starting a dropshipping store. Do you require a business number? Do you need a legal business name? It would be helpful if you could guide us in that area
Hi, Suhyb! Oberlo doesn't require your business to have a business number or license before getting started, but I recommend consulting with a tax professional to determine what your business needs. I would love to provide more advice on this, but the reality is that the legalities can change and can be quite specific to each business, so it's best to check with an expert in this case. -Sophia
Tomorrow I am going to work out some papers to the office for running business in my country so I can start my own dropshipping store.. What would you suggest to a total newbie in dropshipping? :)

I am getting concerned about oberlo. I noticed ALL my products from "Verified" suppliers are no longer available! What the heck is going on? Do you just put the "Verified" name by everything??
Hey Mike! No cause for concern! Back in the spring of 2019, we discontinued all Oberlo Suppliers. Now, all products are sourced via AliExpress, there are no inhouse suppliers any more. We did our best to inform all merchants, sorry if we missed you! 🙂 -Jasper
Hi Emma, do you have customers questioning you about the packaging that they use from China, because most suppliers use packaging that is less desirable than meet the eye?
I've had over 20,000 packages delivered and no comments on the packaging that I can remember. But it probably does effect the number of repeat buyers. People have mentioned that they didn't like it came from china etc but they see that anyway with the tracking and don't have to look at the package to know it's coming from there. It will always be much better to have custom packaging with your logo etc. But for now you can still make a ton of money without bothering to do that
“you’re selling the hole, not the drill” might be the most important quote in this video
Emma uses psychology, hence "get into the audience head" and "make the product a winner", "leaving money on the table". i like the way she think.

Can the second item be from a different supplier? How does that work?
thank you for this video. i was actually wondering, as a beginner, if it is better to start out just shipping to one country (like USA) or to selected countries.
But most of us us Chinese shipping. if it's epacket then you can sometimes get packages to the USA in 7-14 days (assuming the supplier ships within 48 hours)
Starting budget wise.. you can start with $10! But it'll take a longer time and require much more effort on your part due to getting sales in organic/free ways. But if you want to start with ads then I'd recommend at least $500 to play with.
Hope that helps! You can find a ton more info like this in our new Facebook Group: "Ecom Explorers" 😀 😀
All the best
😀 -Kitana

Hey I’m from Australia too, do you have or can you make a video on taxes, abn etc.? All the legality aspects of a dropshopping business in Australia.
Great idea! I'm adding that one to my videos list. But it may take a while!
Hey also, I'm really glad you enjoyed the video! What were your biggest takeaways from it? 😊
😀 -Kitana
@@Oberlo O, I see... Thank you very much Kitana. God bless.
Emma- enjoyed all your information! What is your thought on Womens fashion accessories? Is it too competitive?
I'm really glad you enjoyed the video! What were your biggest takeaways from it? 😊
Also as for women's fashion.. yeah it's SUPER competitive, but can still be done.
@@realemmareid thank u Emma for this tip. I just started on women fashion as well...
I hope Emma got paid for this video - she gave away A LOT of marketing hacks!
Emma, are you making a website for each item, what do you mean by store?
How do you manage dropshipping when working with a supplier off Aliexpress?
You can utilize programs like oberlo for integration from aliexpress into shopify! :D
Yes! Oberlo will order the products for you from Aliexpress. Though if thats not what you mean, just let me know 👍
@@realemmareid oops sorry I meant away from Aliexpress, so in your example of working privately with a supplier - how do you manage those orders? Is that through Aliexpress as well? Really appreciate you all taking the time to answer questions!
@@deepoulsen4213 Okay so, working with a private supplier/agent, you will usually contact them through a chat platform. For example, skype, wechat, slack etc. And then either export a CSV sheet full of your orders to the daily (and have them send back tracking codes to import to shopify). OR in my case, they connect to your store with an app Called "Dianxiaomi(店小秘)" - it syncs everything up. Not every agent or supplier uses that though
@@realemmareid brilliant, thanks a lot for replying :)
What!? It's Emma from TikTok! xx
Can you please explain more about the organic sale? Is a matter of just posting the items on your Instagram account page only using hashtags & not spending actually ad money?
Hi Emma thanks for the info, I wanted to know if an earring(mainly abstract face earring) store would be good.
No problem, I'm really glad you enjoyed the video! What were your biggest takeaways from it? 😊
As for the earring product..
And yes

How to place order of a product from oberlo only after customer money credit in my bank account after delay especially when used PayPal.
🙂 -Jasper

@@realemmareid Hey Emma. I really enjoyed the part on marketing angles and creating great video ads.
Hi Emma/Jessica,
If people brought up-sells from your site, what if they were going to be shipped separately from suppliers, how would you handle this with customers? Greta video by the way.
Hey there! Good question. With any store you want to think about this. You will either need to tell the customer that the products are arriving separately, or you can use one supplier only in your store. That way all products would ship together. The choice is yours. Thanks for the question. 🙌 -Kitana
What the profit they make from their store, jessica can you ask please.the revenue are very high, what the profit pls
My profit was $180,000 USD from the $560k store
Emma: Since the product is coming from China-- do customers get upset because the product takes like 30 days to get to them or is this something that you would tell them on your website?
They don't get upset if you're honest and transparent. You don't have to say china, but "international warehouse" works. Or even just have the shipping time plastered everywhere. On the cart page, at checkout, in shipment notification emails etc. So they know it will take a while. It reduces the amount of purchases you get (and the conversion rate) of the store, but it's very worth it. Lots of upset customers = facebook and paypal bans.
Hey also, what were your biggest takeaways from this video? 😊

Also the best people to reach out to on how to integrate the provider will be the providers themselves. I hope they were able to respond to you by now so you're able to get your store launched. Let me know how it's going. -Kitana
Dear Ms Oberlo would you mind showing us the businesses you own. I think we can learn a lot from you. Thank you.
Do you mean Jessica?
damn i didn't know Oberlo's channel provided so much value 🔥
I have a question, How to do product research please answer me 🙏
Hey! There's a thread on this that just started inside the "Ecom Explorers" group on facebook. I can't link it here, but you should hop in there and check it out! 😊
If you are gonna pioneer a product do you outsource to make a video 1st or do you use the video aliexpress has?
Hey there! Excellent question. Having your own marketing assets makes a big difference since you have creative control over how you showcase the product. That said, it's costly and more difficult to do. So, in the beginning, you could use a video already created. Don't lean on it for long though, make your own as soon as you have some revenue. 🙂 -Jasper
@@Oberlo if it doesn't make you anyone sales I take it just move onto the next product?
Also thank you for responding!!!
Hey there! Yeah, exactly. Don't dwell on a 'non-winner' long, there are so many winning products out there. Give each product its best chance to sell, and if it doesn't, on to the next! 🙂 -Jasper
Thanx Jasper. Product research is the hardest for me. I havent gotten a winner and only 1 sale n I've been trying to really hard to find products but it's hard. Thanx Jasper have a good day
Hi Jessica just wondering if you could make a video about the legal side of starting a dropshipping store.
-Sophia
@@Oberlo Will do. Thanks for the advice Sophia
You're welcome! Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any other questions. -Sophia
Where is Emma's RUclips channel please?
Hey, there! The channel is called Emma Reid! 🙂 -Jasper
Tomorrow I am going to work out some papers to the office for running business in my country so I can start my own dropshipping store.. What would you suggest to a total newbie in dropshipping? :)
If you're a total newbie, as you say, I'd suggest starting with our course -- Oberlo:101 (www.oberlo.ca/course). It might just be what you're looking for! A comprehensive, step-by-step guide to starting, and growing a dropshipping store. 🙂 -Jasper
