I disagree with his assessment of the Jeep Renegade. Like he said at the end of the video, " it comes down to personal priorities" -- in which his "priorities" are about boredom! For me? My priorities were based on specific needs. 1- 4x4 capabilities for Northern Michigan winters. 2- sub compact SUV (not a car) 3- daily winter commuter. 4- better gas mileage than my Jeep JK. The Renegade met all this and more. The ride quality is far better than nearly all reviews I have read, and the winter package was a huge bonus! Heated seats, steering wheel, rain sensor wipers, heated mirrors, and remote start. After working a 12 hour shift while it was snowing all day accumulating 12" of snow-- would you rather have the Honda sitting in the parking lot waiting to get you home or the Jeep? I also got this for far less than his outlandish quote of 33k? Add $2 k to my price and I now have lifetime bumper to bumper warranty. For those on the edge of a decision, I would suggest a test drive to see for yourself that many of their findings won't match yours!

Thanks for sharing! These reviews never seem to touch on how the vehicles perform in winter (some of us have to drive to work/home through lake effect snow)

Great point. I watched dozens of Renegade videos on RUclips and I have grown tired of reviewers talking about "not fun". I don't buy Jeeps as toys. I need to get thru 10" of Minneapolis snow and potholed streets in the spring.

Agreed! And even for me, a city-living -lovingthe -outdoorstrips person...renegade just is the only option!
Personality etc and also the price. Not sure how it goes worldwide, but I just couldn't find any other brand giving me a decent price for these cars, even not during the autosalon, which gives extra's for free etc...Nope Jeep Renegade just did it for me!
Only drawback...have to wait until 16th of april :P

Man... if the CX-3 had more rear seat room, more cargo area, and magic seats similar to of a Honda's, it would've won every single subcompact SUV comparison.

I test drove almost all of these and bought the CX-3. The HR-V was weak with the old 1.8 Civic engine and the CVT transmission just makes it even weaker. CX-3 AWD Touring with premium package is a $25K car worth every penny.

+buildmorefarms100 They may be boring, but they're so damn practical! I test drove the Mazda CX-3, Subaru Crosstrek & the Chevy Trax. The CX-3 was more fun to drive then the lot, but the seats are too damn narrow & there is no cargo room @ all. I purchased the HR-V EX-L w/ Navi & I really like it overall. Yeah...The engine is semi-gutless but once you get it on the highway, it's fine. Great fuel consumption & I love the interior (again...some might find it boring) All-in-all it's works for me. I do love the styling of the Fiat, just that it's terrible reliability record it has.

I would have to agree with the review after I've tested one myself, the Honda HRV seems to fit as the best compact SUV just lacking a little power (though there is something charming about the Kia Soul and Jeep Renegade). As I'm shopping for one next year, I'd really like Honda to put in the new turbo motor they have in the Civic (without the CVT!) into the HRV to give it a little motor umph...

I have it for 5 years now, in diesel version with 150hp, and the only thing i have changed for 100k miles are the brake pads (twice)! It really is a great vehicle, with some minor stupid things, like low quality plastics and paint.

Not sure I understand the practicality of the HR-V when you can get the bigger CR-V with an engine that can deal with the Honda CVT. I guess maybe in the base level trim for price. Too bad the AWD isn't offered with a the manual. I enjoy driving, so the CX-3 was a no brainer for me, with a six speed automatic. If I need practicality I'd have gone with a bigger crossover like the CX-5/HR-V/RAV-4.

There is something definitely going on in the car industry. In the US the Chevy Encore does around 25 to the gallon, whereas it's UK equivalent the Vauxhall Mokka (they are fundamentally the same car), does between 42 and 64 mpg. Then there's the Jeep Renegade. In the US it averages around 23 mpg whereas in the UK again, it does more like 32-55 city, 48-71 highway. That is a considerably variation. We may pay more for gasoline here but our cars a lot more efficient. How can two identical cars from the same manufacturer be so different, funny that isn't it.....??

The european versions are usually DIESEL....and diesel engines burn fuel slower....that is why they are noisy....We don't like noisy engines in the U.S so our cars are petrol engines....
      EUROPE diesel...
      U.S.A petrol....
It's more about the type of fuel different continents use....

I don't get this segment. Why would you want a subcompact SUV? Its basically just a taller hatchback car is most cases with worse fuel economy. The HRV is just a taller Fit, why not just get the Fit? I think its more attractive anyway and you get 41 MPG hwy. The only car I would consider in this segment is the Renegade, however it is overpriced IMO.

Whitney B when you getting older, crawl in and climbing out is no fun! Hrv gives that option of just slide your butt in and out. ☺ BTW I own both of them, so I know the feeling.

I've been investigating this segment for a while. And honestly it seems like every single vehicle is underpowered and crazy small. I wish the Mini Countryman was part of this comparison but I'd imagine the price would be the highest.
I might just skip this market segment and get a compact versus sub compact. It seems like you get more for your money. More power. More space. More features. I can't believe the cx3 and HRV don't have power seats. What a joke.

We got a new Subaru premium with all the things you speak, of, minus the map crap. 25k. About 2-4k below MSRP. The car that should be in this test is the Impreza Outback. Really has the same or better space than most of these cars and at least better ground clearance than the Chevy. It would likely win the test. If the Mitsu could be had for under 22 grand, I think it would be the best value.

Did he say the Renegade weighs 3,600 lbs? This is false, because that much mass in such a small volume will clearly create a black hole.

And to be honest your little slow ? The juke doesn't come out with the red trimming it's just personal preference of the guys car you used

they choose trailhawk renegade then downplay renegade foe being the most expensive car in the comparison and then not only compares its price but they compares its mpg, tires and weight to the 2wd car-utes. what a sham!!! its non trailhawk version is on par with all these vehicles except it is the heaviest. but its because its designed like a real suv

The winners here to me are 500X and CX3. They have the best styling and interior. Renegade has lots of personality too, but is a little bit too gimmicky to appear serious. Hrv is a good car but just looks boring, just like its interior. It literally has no personality. I mean thus segment is all about style and personality, and for that, 500X wins.
