    As a guy I'd choose the Highlander, it has that edge to it.

    Thanks for all the feedback everyone! It is disappointing that we did not have a Mazda CX-9 for the comparison. Mazda did not have one for us. Being an incredibly old vehicle now it's highly unlikely it would have placed anywhere near the top of the list and most certainly would have been scrapping it out near the bottom.

    • @GODs_Son777
      @GODs_Son777 10 лет назад

      Mazda, and Mits. barrow most of their ideas(looks, and mechanics)from Ford, and Dodge anyways.. I guess, that's the reason why, they've excluded them.

    • @rickyguti
      @rickyguti 10 лет назад +1

      It drives better than the whole bunch... and looks better too. Old doesn't necessarily mean bad. And btw, there's a new CX-9 on the way.

    • @GODs_Son777
      @GODs_Son777 10 лет назад

      The CX-9 is a good looking SUV, but I think the Ford Edge still looks a bit better however, the CX-9 does have more of a style to it.

      As someone who's fallen in love with teh CX 9 after test driving it, I am trouble pulling the trigger on it. As a family ma, safety is a major concern and unfortunately the CX 9 is not a top safety pick. I am considering a used Acura MDX or Lexus RX (a lot more money ;(

    i just bought a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe sport for 16,100. 34,000 miles on it. for my familys needs and our budget i feel like im the real winner here. i will never buy a new vehicle ever.

    You guys compared head to head the Santa fe with the pathfinder V6 and it was hands down the pathfinder. I find this comparison is a little skewed in regards to comparing power-trains and vehicles

  • @jaffarbaqi

    I test drove my neighbor's 2014 Sante Fe limited a couple of days ago. It is all what you say it is except for the hard ride. On smooth roads it goes like a dream. Show it the smallest of pot holes and it causes you to think the tires are over inflated, which they were not. I checked.

    • @jaffarbaqi
      @jaffarbaqi 10 лет назад

      Yes, all except the Sorento. In terms of ride quality, I remember the Durango was best. But, I liked the ride/handling balance of the CX-9.

  • @MichaelBelsey

    The problem with all of these comparisons is that they never really show how comfortable all the seats are. They all say 7/8 seats, but I have sat in most of these (not the Chevy which does look large) and the Pilot was the only one that had a comfortable middle position in the second row. My Dad had the highlander and the middle spot in the second row was only useful for short trips in a pinch. This is why I will be buying a Pilot... I really wish these comparisons would consider this and show us some bodies in those seats for comparison.

  • @supremewhip

    Review should be redone with the CX-9 as most mentioned already. Outlander as well.

  • @KiddCoppin
    @KiddCoppin 10 лет назад +6

    Toyota highlander was the best. it had the (2nd) best interior, but cost like 15,000 less than the Durango.

  • @khoatran9560
    @khoatran9560 10 лет назад +1

    Good to know that my current choice, Highlander, made to top 3. Wife does not prefer domestic brands and there were a lot of problems/complaints from consumers. Domestics have more bad reviews mechanically (transmission/etc..) than imports (Japanese: Highlander). I do like the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Durango, but, after reading so many mechanical problem reviews.. meh..
    Some family members (aunts/uncles/etc..) have had Toyotas and never had any problems (major) and they're over 10 years old with at least 150k+ miles. My 2002 Toyota Celica was 10 years-old with ~125k miles before i gave it to my brother in-law (still runs). Celica was giving me 35mpg average at the time i gave it away (480-500 miles range; fills up ~12-13 gallons). My 2012 Camry SE (4cyl) also gives me 30mpg average and no major problems, yet..
    Hopefully the redesigned Pilot comes out soon enough before I make a purchase late this year. Or the redesigned Explorer.

      I love Toyota too. The 2012-2014.5 Camry is so unique in styling, I wanted one SO bad. But Toyota dealers were being really annoying with numbers, so I went with a Honda Accord instead.

  • @fsugrad03
    @fsugrad03 10 лет назад +2

    Great review. My wife and I are in the market for a 3 row SUV, and we've driven all of these except the KIA. It came down to two choices, the Toyota and Hyundai. Hyundai has come a long way, but the Toyota had a little bit more room, and that's why we chose it.

    Traverse in the 8th place ? I can't prefer other cars to traverse just because of the fuel economy !
    because it does many things great
    its V6 is powerful (V8 like)
    very smooth ride
    quiet cabin and suitable for long journeys
    engine sound is good (after durango)
    very very spacious
    and I think it is the best looking crossover under 45k specially with 1LT or LTZ !!
    it deserves 2nd or 3rd after durango !

  • @jvrdlc
    @jvrdlc 10 лет назад +10

    The Durango is good, but its too thirsty, heavy, and i wouldn't need a V8 on a 3rd row SUV and cost a lot. I'd take the Highlander anytime

    • @raheeb1
      @raheeb1 10 лет назад

      You do realize it's available with a V6, RWD or AWD, and multiple trim levels, some of which are FAR less than the ridiculous quoted price in this test (not sure how they even got that high a price, I couldn't even build one for that much on the dodge.com site, unless they are adding the $995 dest charge?). And in V6 trim at lower models that have less seat foam, less features, the weight is quite a lot less too than this mega-loaded Citadel? It's shameful that the reviewers didn't mention all this. Instead they present the D as-such to the uninitiated who then end up thinking "oh I gotta pay 50K and get a V8?!" Sigh....please guys @ Autoguide...next time, highlight the options the car has which the others DO NOT such as the rear seat entertainment pack which is $2000 and discount them all and compare the price apples to apples, so people can make informed decisions.

    • @jvrdlc
      @jvrdlc 10 лет назад +1

      Niz D yes i realize it comes with a base V6, but try the V6 with that huge heavy car and see who it feels. The V8 engine is the best way to go on this car that weighs 5K or more and that is too much specially on a midsize SUV category. even tho the Durango doesn't look all midsize but its competing against them.

  • @BigKens

    I really like the balanced reviews you guys do, giving lots of good information that's not too technical. I would also appreciate a bit more focus on the "info-tainment" systems in these vehicles, as that often plays a big part in purchasing decisions.

    what is your criteria for choosing which suv is better over the others? you had very minimal negative things to say about the explorer which was placed at 7 and then you have almost nothing positive to say about the nissan and it scored several places higher than the explorer. this seems to be a very biased review, you guys obviously only like non-american suvs which are small, underpowered,and boring to drive.

    • @RobertLeBlancPhoto
      @RobertLeBlancPhoto 10 лет назад +3

      I agree. Chrysler products aren't historically very reliable and having owned a 2011 Hyundai, I can contest that it begins to fall apart and make noises very quickly.
      I like the new Highlander but equipped the way we'd want it, we'd be looking at over $47k.
      That said, MB is not known for their reliability either. And the maint and repair costs are ridiculous.

    • @jtafoya88
      @jtafoya88 10 лет назад +1

    Although you guys do point out that the Durango absolutely crushed the competition, price aside, your written article doesn't jive in all of its logic for what you said about the D. First you say, "Not everything is perfect in this Dodge though, the upper portion of the front seats feel like a wooden board and the fit and finish is just OK" but then you immediately follow that with, "If the absolute best vehicle, with the most comfortable seats and nicest drivetrain is all that matters, here is your crossover." Huh?! How can you say most comfy seats and simultaneously put down the upper portion of the front seats? And the volume/turn dials were loose? Uhm, a quick trip to your dealer should fix that easy, what's the big deal? Lastly, how can you compare the Hemi V8 with the rest of the sad engines in this group? No comparison! Sure it costs more! Sure it uses more fuel! But the performance, sound, and luxury of it? And in your video you said some staffers found the admitedly best-in-test transmission reluctant to downshift, is most likely due to them not realizing that ECO MODE defaults to ON every time you start the car. In my book, the Durango demolishes all of these others, especially because you could get it with the V6, and/or RWD instead of AWD, and also lower trim models for way less cost. Total win. Also for 53k, it's obvious you guys threw in the rear-seat BLURAY entertainment package, which is like 2 grand on its own (but really nice). Point is, did the competitors have anything like that? No. So again, Apples to ...

    A V6 AWD Durango Citadel would have been a better contender. Better gas mileage and lower price. The same fancy bells and whistles as the V8 AWD, but about $3 thousand cheaper.

    • @desertpair2
      @desertpair2 9 лет назад

      J High You are absolutely correct. Comparing the V8 Durango to this pack is apples to oranges. With the V6, the Durango has the right price, the right amenities, and much more towing ability and room than anything here. Bad test.

      Denys A I traded in a 2012 V6 Sorento SX AWD for a 2015 Durango Citadel AWD V6. I think the Durango has the best looking exterior styling in this group. They are all good choices so I guess it comes down to personal preferences.

      Dodge Durango are the worst cars . Don't know know why people think it should be on the top f the list . Chevy is also the worst . No matter how many commercials you see .They suck . Get yourself.a reliable car like Toyota or Honda . The best quality car always come from other country's .

    CX-9? Outlander?

    • @MacSaab93
      @MacSaab93 10 лет назад +1

      They probably didn't include the CX-9 because it would have been the oldest design vehicle in the test and the Outlander competes more with vehicles like the Rav4 and Escape.

    • @brandonfriesen5389
      @brandonfriesen5389 10 лет назад

      ***** Yeah I guess you're right. They might've just forgotten about the CX-5 though because its exterior design is the same "Kodo" design language in the 3 and 6. And the Outlander is right in the middle of compact and midsize SUV territory. Even Car and Driver said they dont even know what class it's in.

    How can you put a Kia 5th and a Hyundai 3rd???
    I guess you never consider how cheap they look from a mile away and they suck at durability.
    Well cared Toyotas look brand new 10 years later, the upholstery feels awesomely smooth and cozy, interior plastic still intact and good looking like a Mercedes or BMW, and they drive solid, smooth and quiet.
    Kia goes on 10th place.
    Hyundai goes on 9th place.
    Sorry but I prefer Coke over Sam's Cola, Nike over cheap Walmart shoes.

    I can't conceive of a test with this group that didn't use a Dodge Durango with a V6. You can buy a Durango Limited with all of the good traits that you mention and mpg rivaling the rest of these for about $40,000. "Mid-pack" on the price, for a vehicle that gets as good mpg as the rest . . . and will tow more than any here and seat 7. I have to disqualify this test for the variables. Like most tests, I'm afraid, we're comparing apples to oranges.
