Nice to have BOC back! The concept is a guy is ready to kiss Susie and she passes a "red" capsule to him with the kiss

Could that maybe be a quaalude she gave him a red one, I think those were the strongest I believe, I may be wrong I've never done them before 😞

Yes, Qualuudes at Conray’s Bar, a real place on Hempstead Turnpike, on L.I. But there is SO much more to the concept than that! Check out Sandy Pearlman, their manager and primary lyricist. Over a decade, his rambling and creepy concept unfolds, one song at a time, through BOC music. “The motif of The Rose” is a clue, in this song : )

Hey Chod! The ideal BOC album is the double live "On Your Feet Or On Your Knees", you will thoroughly enjoy it! And please get into Frank Marino and Mahagony Rush Something's Comin Our Way Live At Agora Theater, outstanding performance by an underrated master of the guitar 🎸 ✌️ ☮️ 🇺🇸🎶

I agree with you that BOC are under-appreciated. Great reaction. This is from their first album from 1972. They were hitting bangers right out of the gate! My fave from that album is 'Cities On Flame (With Rock & Roll)'. It's built around a smokin' hot guitar riff.

Hey Chod, you are so right, you just can't put BOC in a box (category). this song "The Kiss, A Recap" is from BOC's first studio album "Blue Oyster Cult" released in 1972. The album also featured the songs "City On Flame With Rock N Roll", "Stairway To The Stars" and "Then Came The Last Days Of May" the last is one of the bluesiest tunes you'll hear. Completely different from the next track. If you enjoy instrumentals along with their wonderful vocals; this is a fun album.

You should also do "She's as Beautiful As A Foot" from this album too. How does a band "step out of the box" on their debut album? The truth is there never was a box for BOC.

For me, 'Screams', 'She's as Beautiful As A Foot' and 'Cities On Flame (With Rock and Roll)' are a perfect trio. Love em! But, sadly we'll never get these reactors to play them like that.

This album was recorded at the warehouse in New Orleans back in October 1971 at the warehouse in New Orleans, I think that if was just released this year it would really stand out over all the other stuff that's going on, truly the thinking man's band, I saw them at a casino in Mississippi near Memphis around 2003 or 2004 , I was working for a luggage delivery company at Memphis international airport at the time ,here some of the band's luggage including guitars were lost so they had to wait for it to arrive before they could even start the show lol ,one hell of a show it was ,I wish it was me who delivered but my boss who told me about it had his wife deliver it all since they had a van that could carry it all ,there was a biker rally going on and foghat played the next day I went to that too after I was through with my last luggage delivery in Mississippi, both shows kicked RAW ASS 🤟🤟🎸🍺🍻✌️

Back Story: The song recounts an evening at a biker bar show in the 60's / 70's. Band members were intimidated to take secobarbitol, a popular downer / sleeping pill by biker thugs. Known as "reds" when they swallowed the reds, the bikers kissed

    Part 2
After taking the red cap, bikers would kiss them, sort of seal of approval. Gin DOES glow in the dark under black lights. . If not the gin it's the tonic. Cheers & Mmmmmuah!

Chod it's great to see you back in the BOC saddle! Yeah, they've been sadly underappreciated over the years. I think their diversity of sound you obviously appreciate has been lost on most hard rock fans, but keep at it and those of us in the know will keep listening. I'd say there's still a lot of great stuff on the Agents of Fortune and Spectres albums you haven't gotten to yet.

This song is about vampires. The kiss is the bite. A redcap is a vial of blood drawn for test purposes. All the rest of the lyrics are about the mentality and 'daily' life of vampires. Yeah, these guys are out there.

That whole first album is fire, saw them several times during their first 3 albums, before they got big with Agents of Fortune, they just ripped into it each time, guitars in incredible interplay, you could tell they would be big. From the same album try Screams, a deep cut like this one that needs to be heard. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶

Most modern metal-heads don't know about just how heavy Blue Oyster Cult is. If you like the idea of a more straight metal rather than thrash version of Slayer with occult lyrics, you'll enjoy Blue...
Cause I am absolutely CERTAIN that one of the influences of Slayer is Blue Oyster Cult...

Now we're talking. One of my favorite bands, since the first album, 1972. Kiss are a band that dresses in costumes. I think their music is awful. Redcap is a beer. Conry's bar was a bar on Long Island, where they are from. My first BOC show in 74 had Kiss opening for them. Albert Bouchard is a great drummer. He has been out of the band for decades.
