  • India's holiest river, 'The Ganga' has sustained and nourished hundreds of millions of people's lives and livelihoods through the centuries. But today, the river is facing a slow death. Over most of its length, the Ganga is dangerously polluted. Unplanned urban and industrial growth have led to the river system's abuse, turning it into a toxic stream at several points during its journey to the sea. The Indian government has launched a massive 'Clean Ganga' project to try and restore the river to its pristine condition. But can Prime Minister Modi save the river when several other leaders before him had failed?

      25:50 Yeah i also remember when the Ganges was clean. You could see the shiny rocks at the bottom. Yes its filthy now. Move the factories and sewage downstream then. An anyone who wants to pollute the water get them away from that area. Send them Miles away.

    • @WarsunGames
      @WarsunGames 3 года назад

      29:33 Who said it was the Government doing this? The government could redirect the sewage yes. However. They don't know what to do with it. They could sell the sewage to farmers. But they don't know that. They could move all Factories away from the river. But that would come at a 70% Job loss. So they need to have Trucks remove the chemical waste. Tell your government to provide Chemical dumping areas outside the city an stop ALL dumping in the water. People are dying from it.

    This is a riveting documentary. As many people of India as possible need to watch it. Give those Bollywood films a rest, and watch this documentary.
    As for the cremations that take place daily by the river, sometimes as many as 200 daily, that won't stop anytime soon. But after seeing the floating half leg (15:38), I was mortified. It's bad enough all sorts of hellish things are dumped in the river, the body parts just finalized my opinion of these so called religious practices, as well as those companies that dump their poisons.
    I don't believe the Goddess Ganga had ever realized, nor had in mind as to how horrible her river would be treated. Pristine water coming from the Himalayas, is a gift and a blessing. Yet, so many are continuing to treat this river like a cesspool.
    I do have faith that things will eventually change. India has overcome so much as it is. There are dedicated Indians that are dedicating their lives for these changes, they will happen faster if they have greater support from it's citizens. The future of generations to come deserve it. Anyway, right or wrong, these are my thoughts on the matter.

I live in India and I've seen both its side. From lush green forests in the north-east to mountains in the North. From deserts in the west to deltaic forests in the east. From the busy urban life of metropolitan cities to the calmness in the mountains of Himachal and Uttarakhand, India is packed with emotions. Yes, lack of proper waste disposal system, proper drainage and poverty are major issues but they are being overcome (though slowly) but progress is being mode. Can't just lose hope, you know!
