  • Had a nice fall morning with no wind and decided to do some pellet testing to see how various pellets shoot out of the FX Maverick Compact. Using JSB as master pellet, velocity is
    915 fps.
    Pellets tested are:
    FX 18.1 - 1:12
    JSB Jumbo Heavy 18.13 - 1:32
    H&N Baracuda 18 18.13 - 1:47
    JSB Hades 15.89 - 2:04
    H&N Terminator 16.36 - 2:23
    H&N Hunter 18.21 - 2:40
    JSB Jumbo Monster Redesigned 25.39 - 2:54
    Results - 3:14
    Damaged Pellet skirt test - 5:44
    Hope this helped anyone looking to try out new pellets in their Mavericks.
    Thanks for watching and please leave any comments below...

    Very informative. Damaged skirt test really surprised me. Thanks for sharing.

    With my .177 springer, if the skirts aren't too badly damaged, they work quite well at close range. Long range, not so much. Apparently, just guessing here, the air pressure forces the skirt to fill in the rifling enough to give moderate accuracy. Thanks for sharing your testing.

    Love my Maverick and Hades JSB Jumbo Monster redesigned 25.39 are my favorite at any speed. Good BC & energy too. The FX 25.4 version are awesome and come in big tins too..
    It took me months to get a good supply of them and the 33.95 s.

    Found the same thing with damaged jsb 18 pellets even at 50. They were still around 1” groups. Plenty good for hunting.

    Nice one. I think the damage skirts will get pushed against the barrel and rifling due to the pressure and leave the barrel perfectly round.

    Interesting to see, but I have replaced all pellets with slugs for my FAC FX Maverick .25. which has been tuned to 65 fpe, so I now shoot ZAN 33grn slugs & delivers these at 1005 flb +/- 3...... I found that pellets tended to wobble off line over long distances, BUT, slugs dont at ranges over 80yrds.

      I agree. I hardly take shots over 80 yards so I stick with the pellets. I watch the big Utubers shoot sparrows, starlings and pigeons with slugs and think to myself, why use a hammer when you can use a paper. 0.10 per shot vs. .05 cents is also a consideration.

    I find the Hades not so good, prefer the JSB heavy, good out to seventy yards in 1:77 and 60y in .22 (sub 12)
    Really looking forward to seeing some more starling shooting and really enjoy the videos.

    Great video, I been shooting the few damaged pellets that I have found. I also let my grandson shoot most of them in his Marauder 25 cal rifle. I load his magazines lol, I had the same results. Still pretty accurate, them rabbits couldn't tell.

    Wished you would have shot 3 foulers before shooting groups of each pellet.

      I am pretty sure I did do that before shooting at each target. I just didn't include it in the video itself.

    Good video! Thanks. All those pellets at that speed must be real risk for barn tin? I am guessing when you use the Mav at that speed you only take blocked shots?

      @midwestairgunner8500  2 года назад +1

      With the Hunter's there is very little energy that goes thru the birds. So I am usually good inside the barns.

    I just received a FX Maverick compact. Could you provide me with both regulator settings when this was recorded? I’m really impressed with the groups you shot. My first pcp the Gamo Urban is a tack driver, but only shoots JSB 15.89 Diablo & the JSB Hades well. The rest I tested was all over the place. Your Maverick seems to like a wide range and weight of pellets. I can’t wait to get the Maverick scoped and ready to pest.

    I know this maybe a bit, can u measure the stick out of the HSA(micro adjuster screw). I measure mine using calipers using the step method that gives me the total height of the HSA from the surface of the spring seat to the top of the micro adjuster screw. Oh, btw Happy
    Thanksgiving!

    • @midwestairgunner8500
      @midwestairgunner8500  2 года назад

      Larry, I played with the settings early on and couldn't get it back to where it was when I first got it. Reached out to the factory and that setting is 21.50mm for overall length. That is what mine is set at. FYI, you may want to put some locktite on the screw to keep it from moving on you. Mine go super loose and that took care of the issue for me. Happy Thanksgiving!!

      @@midwestairgunner8500 So I had my rifle set at the high pressure of 1st 150 and 2nd 125. Was able to shoot JSB 18.13 at 883 fps PW6, Hades 15.89 883fps HN PW5 Baracuda 18.5 at 875fps PW5 and the Crosman HP 14.3 at 859fps PW4 HSA was maxed out any further and I wouldn't be able to cock the gun on PW7. My ES was in the 20s for all pellets. Going to try setting back to where my factory setting were which is what yours is at now and try to get a lower ES and a higher shot count. Is your Maverick Compact still OEM and if thinking about mods or upgrades what do you have planned? Hope your Thanksgiving Day went well!

      @@larry11251956 Yes, it is still OEM. Not thinking of any mods or updates. Mine shoots JSB 18.1's at 917 fps at the factory 135/105 for the first and second reg.
