I returned my 65inch a80j and I snagged myself the 77inch a80j on the Costco shop card deal so it comes out to 2300 for a 77 inch which is nutty. I got it unboxed and fired up yesterday and 2 things I noticed over the 65 I had returned the week prior. The glossy coating is much nicer. I have no problem just looking past w/e is reflecting off the screen; I had a harder time with that on the 65inch. And 2, its freaking MASSIVE compared to the 65inch. My initial thoughts are its too big but I sit 15 feet away so all recommendations point to minimum 75inch. It's quite the adjustment from the 47inch I originally had when I started down the TV upgrade rabbit hole. Overall I'm actually pretty happy with the 77inch a80j. After adjusting peak luminance and the color temp for the standard picture mode its definitely noticeably brighter than the 65inch a80j with the same settings that I just returned. Could that be the suggested guaranteed evo panel? Or maybe just perception with a much bigger area firing light across my room /shrug. I am however still a little on the fence with getting the X95K or the S95B. I found I value total brightness and stutter/judder also drive me way more crazy than say blooming. But I'm both frugal and have fomo for the best of the best so I'm at odds with myself. Regardless, the upgrade from my old edge lit 3D LCD is MASSSSSIVE.
I just bought an 77 inch A80J late last year but I might look into getting a Sony QD-OLED if they come out with a 70+ model. Just not interested in 65 inch TV's anymore.
Love you guys, but always get depressed when I see US pricing 😫 Here in Austria for example the S95B 65“ goes for 3499€, which is 3720$ respectively and that „bonus“ goes for all TVs in general, so very very expensive to get a new model here… Still enjoy to watch all of you on your individual channels as well, keep it up!👍🏻👍🏻
But Rtings is a technical only site so "overall it's a downgrade" literally just means it measures worse. (Basically the new wide angle filter reduced contrast and colour gamut). Other people have measured the new Q95B at 89% P3 which is as bad as Sony was last year with the X95J.
Hey guys… Do you think the A80J 77” is a better TV, and also value than the 75” X95k?? I can buy the A80J for almost 1k less RIGHT NOW over the Sony. Please let me know your thoughts
I have the 77 A80J. It's perfect for dark rooms or light controlled areas. The x95k is designed for brighter rooms. Also, they are two completely different technologies. OLED vs MINILED. OLED is immerse ; therefore, no blooming. With the X95K you will have blooming.
For 1k probably yes. For a dark room for sure. The x95k seems to be a big leap for the led sony tvs however it seems like a big leap price wise too hahah. Both TVs are very good.
Yea, I swill be waiting for one more year, to see what Sony releases next year, I’m hoping Sony will keep the backlight master drive, but add local dimming when you are using vrr.
Do many people use the BFI feature?? Its awesome on the C1. High sucks because its too flickery, but Medium is great because it only blacks out 33% of each frame and Low around maybe 5%
Rtings tests for Sony Tvs are a little off because they test them with local dimming on high which is not the setting most people watch the TV on because it blow out highlights, clip bright highlights and clip bright colors
For the record I was saying no best buy around here will price match Walmart if they have a price online and it says it's sold out. We've run in to that many times and can't do it. Had nothing to do with best buys stock. Sears was offering a Nintendo console (forget which one) for half off but it said sold out and of course we didn't match that. Has to be in stock.
18:49 Yeah those results make no sense for the G2. Way too "good". How can it have a "real scene HDR" of 1,165 when all their tested windows were below that number. I mean it literally took a nose dive going from 10% to 25% window. Lost more than half the nits. A "real scene" is a normal scene with different nits all over the screen. They can't even be HIGHER than the actual peak nit of any window. That's illogical. In fact it would be much lower. Because on a white window test on black background the TV pushes as hard as it can to push the nits. So in reality the "Average" APL or nits you see is likely 300-400 nits in combination. If a darker scene then the highlight can be higher towards 1,000 nits. But if it's a brighter scene it will dip well below to 300 nits. A mid range scene would be 400-500 nits at most.
I think Sony has no choice but to use new Pentonic chips - Things are moving superfast - they moved super quick on QD OLED. It's not only Dolby IQ - I imagine these chips will be 4 48Gbps HMDI channels to boot (Mediatek is growing fast ) . Look how Intel stagnated - look at Intel now - what was done in 2 or 3 years last decade is now done in one year . I would think Sony adapting to a new screen tech would be harder . Plus maybe chip has more bit processing - so better less darkness crush and less banding . Panasonic NEEDS this - so Sony must follow - especially if Sammy is like LG setting the base price . Anyway these will also be better TVs -- I think next year will be great 77" QD OLEDS by at least 3 companies if supply is good , new SOCs - and QD-OLED will be better - plus more understood - plus hopefully PS5v2 or Pro to boot . Ignoring bigger sizes ths would be great TVS for a long term ownership - great screen, good SOC , good size 77" - plus good features . These SOCs will also be more powerful - may have AV1 etc - so could run micro games better , UI much faster The SOCs now except the new Mediatek Pentonic 8K are being pushed to their limits to make gaming work , imagine and sound processing etc - plus updated Wifi 6 and BT - That's a huge SOC upgrade V4 to V6 brroom brrrrrooom
The G2 has worse color volume than the G1. All because they push the White subpixel even harder with the heatsink. It just shows what a super inherent flaw that WRGB technology have. It's basically nothing they can do. Either they can sit there and be accurate in color up to low nit level and then the colors just goes to hell, washed out and ceases to be accurate because they are not pure anymore. Or they can push the brightness and just have a TV that is accurate at low nits content and then blown out at higher brightness. So what is the point of it all? To get brighter white stars? If they have a scene with too much white in comes the ABL and brings it down to 200 nits. I rather take some inaccurate colors that at least REMAIN a color at higher nits than that. Why isn't anyone calibrating movie mode on the S95B? Did anyone get the colors within Delta error 3? If so then it's accurate to the human eye. Period. If EOTF can be reigned in somewhat, same thing not a big deal. But nope, got to shit on it daily now, because its the cool thing to do. Big boy Vincent did so now everyone follow suit like little lemmings without a backbone.
@@NorthShoreDrama That's a pretty subjective opinion there. He's only telling guys like yourself what you want to hear and backing it up with fake readings from his calibration software to discredit a damn good TV. Vincent has an agenda to hate anything that's a Samsung TV, it sells well and sounds good to the many that follow him. So according to me, he's NOT the best AV reviewer.
@@NorthShoreDrama It sounds you spent the night listening to Vincent's hours long monologues of HDR metadata, EOTF curves, creators intent and slight inaccurate colours etc etc with his PowerPoint slides in the bedroom, pause 😂
