And, at the end of the day… esports are sports. So… if Wolfey happens to see this: believe me, it works, I’ve seen it first hand.
The sad thing about this story is the fact that people who steal your teams don't necessarily know how to use them either, they just see a top player using a team and monkey see monkey do. People who use the efforts of others in an attempt to get ahead will always exist in this world, and that's a sad truth, but I'm glad you didn't let that get to you. Everyone here, every genuine fan watching that either doesn't care much for competitive or is a casual player looking up to the top, we've all got your back no matter what. If anyone does something like this and you need someone to talk to about it, we'll be here for you. Nobody should suffer from success due to others looking to steal it for themselves. The perish team he brought was super cool. As a perish trap enjoyer myself, I loved the team seeing it live and I genuinely thought it was going to win
Keep in mind that during the whole tounremnt, Wolfe does not only have to focus on winning, but keep track of all of his matches/reactions to craft a masterful video
Wolfey is the genuine goat, inspiring skill at the game in addition to top shelf gaming opinions (wanting to win vs be the best) Love the determined attitude he's had in the last year or so, I've always thought he was the best as a longtime player myself + it's genuinely wholesome to see him have this confidence. Dude the story telling is dope af ... He was evolved from making a shity ms paint intro to a full fledged thriller script like nobody's business... Just amazing...
It is not a pokemon problem tbh, the pokemon community is relatively good, these problems are more competition/sports (in this case esports) problems where players are forced to go as close to the rules as possible to gain the highest chances of winning. In my perspective, as someone that hasn't won a regional before, I would be honored of someone copying my team, but obviously having everyone prepared for it would be a nightmare.

Hey Wolfey, I just want to say that the efforts you are going through to make competitive Pokémon more accessible and constantly elevate the presence of VGC in the poketuber scene don’t go unnoticed. While it is disheartening to see how these efforts can seem to be a bit self-sabotaging in a competitive sense it is awesome to see your determination to stick with the goal of being the best trainer you can be rather than just being the person who wins the event. Your career is super inspiring and stands as a shining example of pursuing a goal with passion and integrity.

The shade against Brady is HILARIOUS, I can imagine how it feels to have your secret team go viral, but there's no question that you're the #1 Pokemon strategist in the world.
@@billdewall6152 No, he shouldn't. I love Wolfe's content and respect that he is always able to create top team on his own, but disrespecting others who don't do that is ridiculous. Not everyone's main job is Pokemon to be able to spend hours building a team, and also not everyone has 10 years worth of experience playing the game. Everyone has to start somewhere, and that somewhere is seeing a good team, understanding it, re-creating it to his comfort and piloting it to good result. This is what 90%-95% of the community do. The term "stealing" is also very misguided. It's not like Brady hacked Wolfe's account or did some shady stuff to extract private information. The 6 pokemons can be already seen on showdown, and if you played or have friends played against the team 3-4 times, you should know all the moves (and to be honest, the pokemons are pretty gimmicky, so you can guess most of their moves anyway). The EVs spread is created by Brady independently, which if you are a long time viewer of Wolfe, you should know that EVs can radically change the way the team is played. Even Wolfe confirmed in the video that Brady's version is not the version Wolfe used in the tournament.

wow! Your story telling skills are very powerful and captivating! I don't even watch or play pokemon, and somehow I stumbled across this video.. Towards the beginning of the video when you mentioned that only one player had ever won the world championships after having to compete in the Day 1 part of the tournament, I was like "wow that sounds like a super impossible thing to do and props to the 1 person who has done that!" And then nearly 50 minutes later, at the very end of the video, when you said "And like I mentioned before, only 1 player has ever managed to win the World Championship after starting in Day 1...... thankfully that player was ME." My jaw literally dropped to the floor. I don't know who you are, I don't know your story, and the way you were able to keep my attention and surprise me at the end like that is truly magnificent! As I mentioned before, I am not a Pokemon fan by any means, but this video has made me a WOLFEY fan and I can't wait to see how you take on this challenge of becoming a 2x world champion :)
I think it's so cool that Wolfey not only reaches out to people for advice but shouts them out in his video. A man gathering wisdom from the other experts around him and showing appreciation. I love that.
I absolutely cannot wait for Worlds. He made a team so good that he would've probably won Nationals with it if it hadn't gotten leaked, and he can definitely do it again. And this time around everyone else probably won't have access to a leaked teamsheet, wolfe'll make sure of that. 2023 is the year of the wolves, go get 'em champ.
I wish the entire lead-up of talking about the team and training was a setup for Wolfey to walk in and say "So anyway. I was Paul, and I brought a team that completely counters the strategy I made myself."
Lol wolfey in the interview: "im not even thinking about this tournament, im thinking about the next one and here is the mon i am going to surprise you with on my sock"
I'm a pokemon Go player, and I love your videos. I've never played competitive VG before, let alone battled against a human in the video games lol. Your storytelling is incredible.
I don't care about wolfey's incredible skill, but it is outrageous that they don't just let him go straight into day 2 because of his masterful beard. I mean, how? Plz :(
Wolfe proving to everyone else that he doesn't need any leaks or benefits to become a world champ. The true dedication of a World Champion, putting out serious hard work to prove that he is in indeed deserving to be called the best Pokemon player out there

You really made us feel like part of the event... great presentation Wolfey... as someone who is so far away from the VGC circuit... we appreciate your efforts
This stuff happens in Magic: the Gathering deck building too. A lot of the major sponsors have in-house teams that playtest the various decks to avoid leaks. You already had a slew of friends that you were playtesting with, so maybe it's gotten so cut throat that grinding on the Showdown ladder and online is too risky.
Good luck Wolf, Huge respect and appreciation for being the better player and showing that even when the enemy can think they know what your doing, you can out show them and win from being behind. Good luck at worlds! rooting for you guys!

@@jaegibson144then he probably should have been more careful about his laddering. Becoming number 1 in ranking without noticing is almost impossible. It's crazy how full circle things have gone in the VGC scene. Ten years ago it was the Rizzler himself Ray Rizzo defining the metagame with (sigh) defensive Thundurus, now this season alone Wolfey has single-handedly kicked off the Palabalance craze at one tournament, Gyara "New" Balance at another tournament, and completely shifted the entire player base's team prep at a third tournament. The true World Champ Difference
Love the well-deserved shade thrown at Brady Smith. What a snake, and really crazy as to how intense things get in the scene. Good luck for Worlds, Wolfe!
I gotta say, Wolfe is a better man than me. Going to such extreme measures to find out someone’s team? That’s just low and disgusting but seeing him take it in stride is so impressive. On another note, whoever is in charge of the tournaments really needs to step up because the fact that stuff are things is so insane.
Uhh, well this is a tournament organized by the tpci branch of the pokemon company, and in my opinion they organize the tournaments really well. Scouting is not an issue of pokemon or tpci, but rather for competitions in general, and to be honest tpci can't do much about it.

Yeah that's an excellent set up and payoff
Man, I'm really sorry that happened to you, Wolfey. It's clear how hard you and your friends worked on that team, and you were still able to bounce back and try your best. That's why you will always be the world champion to me no matter how the season goes.
Dude, Wolfey is always so respectful towards his competitors on his RUclips channel, so you KNOW he was pissed at Brady Smith if he’s calling him out by name more than once in one wideo. 😅
it wouldn’t be a ‘wolfe prepares for a major tournament’ video without him putting off picking his team

did you watch the video? he had started making the team a whole 2 months before internationals.

Its geat that wolfey is so real. He shows us ALL of his experiences, not just his wins. Major respect for that.
He also compliments his opponents when the praise is due. He's your opponent sure but damn you gotta admit that play was pretty fire.
That whole section on the team leak had me whirling. Also I remember watching this tournament on stream and thinking that the guy who was playing the same team as Wolfe must have been someone he was practicing with. So crazy.
What i love about these videos is you show that any competive events arent just 1 person, but a community of people despite playing against them. Its awesome to see all the people who help you with lists, stat spreads, testing, etc

Wolfey should totally see a Sports Psychologist. After working a ton with footballers, boxers, and MMA fighters, he faces the same type of stresses: Keeping high performance while being under the spotlight.

We're here for you Wolfey.
It's called world champ difference
No, the sad part is spreading it around. Not stealing the team.
Beware Wolfe. You may be thinking you’re fighting Michael, but it may be a wolf in sheep’s clothing
Someone’s gotta send a meme of this to MandJtv
Take my like
Wolfey: "Only one world champion has won when they started on the first day of world's"
Everyone: "it was you, wasn't?"
I love how supporting and positive the community is, like he just messaged a competitor and got a bunch of in-depth analysis back no questions asked.
I didn’t think I could like Wolfe more. This video is his best work. World champ difference, baby!
The perish team he brought was super cool. As a perish trap enjoyer myself, I loved the team seeing it live and I genuinely thought it was going to win
Man that leak sucks, you handled it much better than I would’ve, I would’ve found the leaker and publicly shamed them.
Completely fair
Shame doesn't do anything:
"Hey man, you should feel bad about what you did!"
"Nah, don't think I will."
It’s different when you have such a platform like Wolfe than it is when you’re an average Joe
Calling out Brady was no accident, I’m sure.

Wolfey is the genuine goat, inspiring skill at the game in addition to top shelf gaming opinions (wanting to win vs be the best)

Whoever is Paul is just a cringe lord, imagine doxing someone just to find out their pokemon team so you can spread it
@@shocky377Paul didn't dox Wolfe that was in the past
It is not a pokemon problem tbh, the pokemon community is relatively good, these problems are more competition/sports (in this case esports) problems where players are forced to go as close to the rules as possible to gain the highest chances of winning. In my perspective, as someone that hasn't won a regional before, I would be honored of someone copying my team, but obviously having everyone prepared for it would be a nightmare.
@@Mut-ant i get that it’s to have the best chance at winning and all, but it’s still so cringe for players to literally copy your whole team and loose with it because they are trash with said team lol. Just goes to show how good Wolfe actually is
@@angelodidomenico5532yeah two groups of people that should be separated
1) leaked the team so they could figure out how to matchup against it better. A bit shady, but understandable in getting a competitive edge
2) leaked the team in order to steal it outright. Downright scummy and lazy. The kind of person to do nothing and slap their name on the group project at the end.
Dude Wolfe just looks so fucking good this season. He's so consistent and the content is at absolute fucking PEAK. Its absolutely unreal. Even if he doesn't end up winning worlds. This guy is living and breathing the world champion lifestyle. Unbelievably inspiring
Hearing Wolfe’s opinion on the leak and it’s affect on the tournament is so heart breaking but it is incredible the quality of work that went into the team and video. World Champ diff I suppose.
The shade against Brady is HILARIOUS, I can imagine how it feels to have your secret team go viral, but there's no question that you're the #1 Pokemon strategist in the world.
Its especially satisfying when you realize brady got 76 and didn’t even make it past day 1
Hilarious and deserved. Brady should feel embarrassed.
I agree. Good for Wolfe.
Yeah, strategy game players should never utilize other players' strategies. Super unfair!!!

wow! Your story telling skills are very powerful and captivating! I don't even watch or play pokemon, and somehow I stumbled across this video..
Towards the beginning of the video when you mentioned that only one player had ever won the world championships after having to compete in the Day 1 part of the tournament, I was like "wow that sounds like a super impossible thing to do and props to the 1 person who has done that!"
And then nearly 50 minutes later, at the very end of the video, when you said "And like I mentioned before, only 1 player has ever managed to win the World Championship after starting in Day 1...... thankfully that player was ME."
My jaw literally dropped to the floor.

I don't care about wolfey's incredible skill, but it is outrageous that they don't just let him go straight into day 2 because of his masterful beard. I mean, how? Plz :(
We will get to see that beard in day 1 streams now tho...
Wolfe proving to everyone else that he doesn't need any leaks or benefits to become a world champ. The true dedication of a World Champion, putting out serious hard work to prove that he is in indeed deserving to be called the best Pokemon player out there
I remember seeing how Wolfe looked like in the 2016 championships and thought his role was the villain boss to beat (only really because of the little emotion he showed during the match) just to find out Wolfe is actually just a goofy goober.

Love that he puts Brady Smith on blast for stealing the team, and stealing it poorly at that.
Really weak move. Pretty much admitting that he sucks at Pokémon by copying a new team then proving it by not being able to use it haha what an idiot.
Same here. Call out the jerks. Good for Wolfe
Brady deserves it LMAO. He knew exactly what he was doing.
@rogamu7531 bro stealing teams is something everyone does, including top players. Only reason people care is because it's Wolfe.
You're right, people should never use other people's strategy in any strategy game ever.
In the age of TikTok and 15 seconds shorts, this video was sooo needed. Watched it entirely in one sitting. Well done
These players show absolutely no mercy! Hacking accounts and theft on someone else's team!? They can't beat you and they know it! Half of them use teams that they didn't even make themselves anyways lol. Keep up the great work and can't wait to see your performance!

@@jaegibson144then he probably should have been more careful about his laddering. Becoming number 1 in ranking without noticing is almost impossible. You see your ELO at the end of each showdown match and you know your rank at the end of each online battle.

He took the risk, and he faces the consequences. I love Wolfe and I’ve been watching him for 4 years now, and met him at Knox. However, I think that the leaking of the team is his own fault to a certain extent.
@@Reliztik82 that is a very fair assessment. but if he doesnt take such risk, he wont get the neccesary practice

I also appreciate how direct Wolfey was in discussing the Pokemon competitive meta, how it develops, and how the actions of other players have sometimes overstepped respectful boundaries. He's always been very careful and made sure not throw any shade on the scene.
