I tried to do it years ago and it was just too time consuming for me to want to play competitively, but its nice to have someone explain the thought processes and all the mons
I would say even if the white herb “didn’t do it’s job” (and only popped once) it still did it’s job by totally deterring the use of taunt on the amoongus. Sure you don’t get the wasted turn bc they know it’s there but that still means you never have a taunted amoongus.
Honestly for real! I would assume some if not many of the players had taunt and wanted to use it against amoonguss but their knowledge of the herb stopped them from even bothering to use it. Instead of preventing one use of taunt it stopped most usage of taunt overall which gives it significantly more value than it first appears. definitely wasn't a waste to have.
Please more tourni Videos. To hear your thought process shows just how much you are commited to the game and I respect that! I can't imagine playing on this level

This is some absolutely legendary storytelling. Big ups for prioritizing spending time with your friend over prepping more! No matter what your finish was, you were going to remember and appreciate the time you spent with him. And in the end, it was the help of your buds that I’m sure you’ve prioritized in other situations that came through to help you push through that extra bit.
The fact that he had a whole crew of great and knowledgeable friends was the real salvation. Good Lord, it is easy for casuals like me to take for granted just how much work goes into team building.
The biggest takeaway here that I have of what gives Wolfey the "world champion difference" is that Wolfey is really good at looking at a matchup, and identifying his win-condition, and playing to that win-condition. This is different from beginning VGC players who look at battles from a turn by turn basis of "what is the best position I can be in next turn" whereas Wolfey is thinking about "what is the position I want to try to get to in 5 turns?" This win-condition is typically some game state where the opponent has certain things on the field that cannot beat Wolfey's things on the field. Specifically we can see that Wolfey doesn't lose a single game against Dondozo-Tatsugiri because as soon as he sets up with terra grass iron hands + amoongus on the field against powered Dondozo, the opponent has gone all in, and Wolfey can just follow a flowchart and win the game. I think in the game against dondozo with a glimmora, the win con for the opponent was probably to make sure iron hands was poisoned before pulling out Dondozo. This is why the turn where Wolfey brings out Amoongus to absorb toxic spikes was so crucial. The team comp where Wolfey lost 3 times to definitely doesn't seem unbeatable at all, and I think Wolfey is absolutely right in that if he had more prep to explicitly study that matchup, he'd probably be able to at least lower the amount of variance that he ultimately have. In Wolfey's analysis, I think the "wincon" for that matchup is a lot more nebulous, or at least he still doesn't understand it (although honestly pretty much 99% of the viewers won't be able to figure it out either without extensive testing)
8:36 I’m not super into competitive Pokémon but I’ve been running bullet seed ammoonguss to do the exact same thing, but I only used ammoongus for rage powder support, seeing this makes me realized that mouse hole will be the best option for my fun goofy team.
Maushold is definitely good, but honestly I think you could consider the amoonguss for a bit longer. When someone leads Annihipale Maushold I think "They're beating up Annihilape," but when someone leads Annihilape Amoonguss I definitely do not think "They're bullet seeding Annihilape." Having a surprise factor like that is honestly super powerful
that does sound pretty good but i think the fact that it takes amoonguss needs 224 speed ev with a speed boosting nature to outspeed min speed ape hurts the strategy a lot, since the mushroom loses a lot of its bulk due to that much speed investment and the monkey can easily be outsped and ko’ed before it could land its rage fist

Team building is 100% the reason competitive Pokemon isn't very accessible even if you are good at Pokemon battling alone
You can just copy the team of somebody else
@@toastbrotL1i think the problem is more breeding fo iv and ev training
@@oke5403 bottle caps make breeding pointless now tbh, its just a matter of finding low iv attack/speed when appropriate honestly. ev training a whole team is also trivial w/ sandwiches and bands too.
Sad but true
@@beepees there's no reason why they couldn't have included resetting ev's though
Props to Wolfe for “winging it” (by his standards) on team building. Throwing the awesome looking Iron Hands on was a great call.
I love that showdown skin and its so good that recording clips now take less time!
Congrats!
Thank you for this! I love these types of videos that I can watch over the course of a couple days. Competitive pokemon seems so fun!
Instead of preventing one use of taunt it stopped most usage of taunt overall which gives it significantly more value than it first appears. definitely wasn't a waste to have.
how did they know his amoongus had herb?
@@soupstoreclothing Open team sheets I'm pretty sure, as he does talk about open team sheets, and what held items his opponents had on their pokemon.
Please more tourni Videos. To hear your thought process shows just how much you are commited to the game and I respect that! I can't imagine playing on this level
This is genuinely some of the best storytelling i have ever seen. Wolfey keeps blowing me away with his content
Awesome to see Wolfe rocking the Annihilape hairstyle to the tournament 😂
20:00
You know these events are horribly underfunded when they still use a display of the Tapus half a year into Gen9....
I swear wolfey’s narratives of these tournaments is top notch
I'm on the team building process for NAIC. I feel like I've dented my head from pounding it on the wall.
I love how Wolfey asked Jaiden and Jacob... you know the two people who weren't even considered poketubers until a few years ago 😂 But hey, it was worth a shot
Between Wolfe's last push for 1M and that OHKO segment, I've never respected a man more
BIRD GAME! Probably the only person in the world who wants a Wolfe Glick Wingspan channel but no revolution starts without one mad man to begin it
Ask Alpharad for advise in the team building was... Bold 😂
41:40 now that I think about it… No one has ever seen Wolfe and Taylor in the same place at the same time!😮
I used this team in a local and came third and got my first CP this season, I know its late in the season but it made me really happy :)
i could see a variant of the team winning NAIC to close the season, it would be funny having palafin balance win EUIC and then gyarados balance winning NAIC. regulation C has really been defined by strong balance teams just being piloted well by good players.
Damn I love Cp.
@@hughjack5066
you got your first WHAT?
This is some absolutely legendary storytelling. Big ups for prioritizing spending time with your friend over prepping more! No matter what your finish was, you were going to remember and appreciate the time you spent with him. And in the end, it was the help of your buds that I’m sure you’ve prioritized in other situations that came through to help you push through that extra bit.
Can we just take some time to appreciate the care this guy puts into our balls ❤
Wtf?
huh?
No.
Ayo 🤔📸
He sure does Pokè them
I love this video. It’s blends the new and old in my favorite ways, thank you for making it! If it had chapters then it would be perfect haha
Looking forward to seeing how you do at NAIC next weekend. I know you’re gonna be trying as hard as possible to get that Day 2 Invite!
These tournament videos are so great! We get to feel your tension as you fought through the sets, it’s awesome!
Lmao I love the “ViVioN” pronunciations 37:19
I like how I don’t have to look at the screen to know what’s going on, it’s really good for a background video while I work
The fact that Wolfey can make a team in under a week and get 3rd place is wild that all the *_Vivillon_* wished they ran Safeguard!
Ai generated comment
The fact that he had a whole crew of great and knowledgeable friends was the real salvation.
Good Lord, it is easy for casuals like me to take for granted just how much work goes into team building.
@@expo_pkmn😭
Love how detailed your teambuiling explanation for this video
Jacob and Jaiden recommending OHKO moves on every mon was 100% a canon event
@crarlo just get the quick Claw proc everytime u bullet seed e z skill issue
Wolf was really rocking the mad scientist look for the tourny lol.
Dude, I'm 30 minutes in and this vid is amazing. Super good editing your ability to tell the story is amazing. Congrats on this vid, hoping you won the tournament :)
Thanks for making videos like this. I know absolutely nothing about competitive Pokémon but you explain things in such a gripping and educational way that I'm on the edge of my seat cheering you on for the whole duration of the video. Thanks for all the effort you put into these videos
I didnt know Wolfe was a Swiftie now I love him even more.
i love him sm for this😭
I dont know why this got put in front of me by RUclips, but it was really interesting to see a full picture of a top player goes through for a tournament including the team building (even if it is rushed).
Given his track record, the effort he put into pronouncing vivillon is appreciated
WTAF WOLFE WHEN DID YOU HIT A MIL?! Congrats man, i know thats been a major thing for you for as long as i can remember!
I swear you were at 500k a couple months ago? Can't think of a more deserving fella though :)
Edit: wow and Social Blade real time sub count says you just hit EIGHTY one million, you really have been busy 😳
Opponent: “I haven’t dropped a game” Wolf: “that’s neat”.
*A few moments later*
GG and wolf runs his hand through his hair as his opponent is left crying and in the fetal position. 🤣
Love how smooth the script and the editing is. Wolf always has the word champ difference
I think it would be a cool video to transfer in your 2016 Worlds Pokemon through Bank and Home into Scarlet and Violet once Cover Legendaries are allowed in VGC and to get Rank 1 with them. Everyone except Hitmontop is in Scarlet and Violet
I really love these tournament videos! Liked the interviews afterwards too. Good touch
this is truly a vivion moment
Dillon delivered a 5 star meal in true supercomputer fashion with that EV document. Crazy goated.
Am I missing something tho, Wolfey wanted to place at least 8th then got 3rd it seems like? What a humble dude, and very impressive especially considering how it started!
It was only a mistake cause he missed the T swift concert 😂
This is my favorite format ever! I wish a lot of top players did this. I learned more from this than I have by myself in months.
1:05:37 I love Wolfey's reaction when his Ting-Lu survived LOL
Man I usually don't watch super long videos on RUclips but I watched this all the way through. Great video Wolfey. Your content has so much effort put into it.
I think I actually prefer the funny pngs in the battle recreations. Seeing similar pokemon hitting the field over and over can feel a bit repetitive, but the random changes always wakes me up with a laugh. Would definitely like to see more of that.
Lol you seemed so dominant when I watched the stream on the Pokémon channel it’s hard to imagine all this was going on behind the scenes … you’re the reason I watch regionals keep up the great content!!
