Couple of times you have interchanged the spDef stat to Def stat . so the boost is 100 to 150 not 125 to 187.5
@@blahbah9254the def stat he shows is not the base stat, it's the defense at lvl 50 31IVs 0EVs
Oh thanks. I didnt know that @@obiwancannoli1920

Worth it to note: In Snow/Hail Blizzard does not become 100% Accurate, it actually bypasses the Accuracy Check entirely.
Does that mean there is now way make the blizzard miss in snow except for flinching
@kINg_Of_yOuTuBe__ Yes, the only way to stop it, is to make sure it never goes off in the first place
Minimize mfs: 💀
Does Detect cause it to miss or it bypasses that as well?
@@vallar57 it wont hit through protection moves, no. anything after the protection is a binary "nope" - its not simply reducing the attackers accuracy to 0% for that turn. Just as blizzard in this case has a binary "yes", rather than being set to 100%. So yeah, detect works as normal, since it has priority over blizzard still
edit : It used to have a small chance - i dont think that was intentional though. it was patched a few gens ago
Nah, it will only be a “bad” legendary once I hear about Silvally getting anything good sometime this decade…
They buffed multi attack to 120 base power in gen 8.
That's probably it but it's something
Woah it's that guy from Fry Em Up's comments!
@@BlazingJ972 That was really it. I know it’s supposed to be an inferior Arceus, but they didn’t need to make it awful in pretty much every way!
@@HoverMelon2000 Really??
Fixing Silvally’s ability to learn all of the Pledge moves instead of just Grass Pledge would be a neat upgrade
I don't play competitive myself but it always makes me happy when one of my favorites gets a chance to shine
Given the amount of players at this tournament and chien pao being the only ice type people prepared about, it's statistically very very like that in the days before the competition, someone, somewhere, actually had the following discussion
"-Damn your team has so many ice weaknesses
-I know but, I don't really care. I have my Pao check so what is any gonna do with my ice weakness? Pull out articuno and blizzard me to death? /s
-Hahaha yeah right"
In swiss round 3 on stream of that tournament, you could see a game changing snow cloak activation when articuno dodged a parting shot from incin then hit it with sheer cold the following turn
OWNED
I'm so happy you did a vid on the Blizz'd n Blasted Cuno Squad. Really been enjoying the top tier players reviewing (and using) it!
I'm glad it's shaking the meta a bit, hopefully we'll see more variety in pokemon brought to doubles.
I don’t get this take. Reg F has an insane amount of diversity, with well over 70 or even more Pokémon reaching top cut of regionals since the beginning of the Regulation. Even to the point where players in Beastcoast or other creators like Moxie is saying this format is too decentralized.
This tournament is a great showcase of this. In the top 8, we had 22 different Pokémon, and just outside the top 8, we had Pokémon like Roaring Moon, Okidogi, Iron Boulder, Annahliape, Whimsicott, Goodra, and Volcarona in the top 16 alone. Even teams with 3 or so similar Pokémon often played very different archetypes.
Have you been living under a rock
Man that video was insane, your editing, editing of scenes, flawless work!!
As a Pokemon fan that loves to see more 'mons be viable, it's good to see an oft-overlooked legendary Pokemon get this level of success.
I love how Articuno is looking at the viewer in the thumbnail. It’s almost like “Why did you choose me?! Why did I win?!” “Are you stupid?”
i love the oldschool ragnarok online emotes used xD
2:12 not the Game Theory tunes😢😢 (i’m still not over it)
Don't you dare call my bird weak!
Articuno: Do you want to be a life-time coward or a 5-min hero?
One thing I always liked about Articuno is that it learns Mind Reader as well as Sheer Cold through lvl up. Afaik, it's the only mon with access to such a 2HKO combo.
I've been using this strategy for a while, and honestly, im glad they finally gave my favorite legendary bird the buff it deserves (worthy note, i would run a slower Alolan Ninetales because a faster Ninetales with drought can instantly break this build unless you also run Snowscape.)
Articuno was actually good in Gen 1, especially in Red/Green when Blizzard had a 30% freeze chance…in Gen 1. Where freeze was basically as good as a faint.
I'm so glad Ice types are being given justice. Now if only bug type got the same treatment.
Articuno was pretty good in gen1, its Special stat (for those who don't know was both Special Attack and Special Defense in one stats, its as broken as it sounds) was turned into its Special Defense. Combine that with a 90% accurate Blizzard, an immunity to being Frozen (a big thing in gen1), Freeze basically being a knockout (the only way to thaw out in gen1 was to be hit by a Fire type attack that wasn't Fire Spin, otherwise you were Frozen forever) on top of the fact that there were really only two good Rock types (Rhydon and Golem) who REALLY didn't want to take a STAB Blizzard from Articuno.
It started to struggle after Gen1, but it wasn't until Gen4 that it fell off a cliff, Stealth Rocks ruined it in singles and Power creep kind of killed it by the time VGC came around.
I am so happy about the Game theory reference and MATPAT WILL BE MISSED
Articuno was pretty good in gen. 1. It was before the special stat was split into Sp. Atk and Sp. Def., so it's Sp. Atk. was 125, making its stab Blizzard the most powerful move in the entire game. Blizzard was also more powerful and more accurate in gen. 1, and had a higher freeze chance.
I’ve been killing it with Frosmoth on the ladder, and someone won a tournament with it.
Articuno is the most iconic legendary bird and now he shines brighter in the tournament
I asked Wolfey about this team on Twitter/X, so it's pretty cool to see the answer as a video
insane editing. 10/10 give him a raise its like the most insane editing ive ever seen.
7:39 I believe Articuno's physical defense is 100, not 120, so the correct numbers should be 100 and 150 unless I'm missing something
I'm glad Wolfey now has a good lightweight travel bag.
Honestly, specs, tera ice, and clicking blizzard over and over again is definitely a scary thought - but it makes me wonder how immensely difficult it would be to remove if it had an assault vest or roost?
Wolfey Rock slide PTSD is relatable
Love when a tournament is won by a player making a masterful meta call, not just using the "best" team.
After seeing Undertale Yellow, Articuno in the thumbnail looks exactly like Martlet lol.
that video cover pic
is cute af i must say😻💕
It’s really funny to me when people say that Ice is the worst typing, but actually it’s REALLY broken. The problem was the Pokémon that had the ice type. Before Gen 7-9, many of the ice types were designed to be slow, bulky tanks with less emphasis on speed and more on physical and special defense, but with so many weaknesses to many offensive types and only 1 resistance in return (to itself), it was counterintuitive. Galarian Darmanitan, Iron Bundle, Chein Pao, Baxcalibur and to a lesser extent Weavile, Arctozolt, and Kyurem, shows how powerful Ice Types are as an offensive presence. Hell they tried to make hail a thing in general 7 with Slush Rush Alolan Sandslash and Aurora Veil Ninetails, but the former is too slow even with Slush Rush and the latter was more abused as a Screens lead, and right now in Sword and Shield, there aren’t many good Slush Rush Pokémon, but with the right Pokémon with the right stats, a full dedicated snow offense team has potential to be as great as rain and sun are right now. But overall, ice has always been the best offensive type in the game (second to pre-fairy dragons), but never really had enough Pokémon with the firepower and speed to capitalize off its offensive power till now. And honestly ice types were always meant to be glass cannons bc that’s literally what ice is, and I’m glad they’re starting to make more good ice Pokémon geared in that direction as well as giving the previous ones the buffs they needed!
Chili Ice cream is actually pretty popular in the philippines
Wolfey doesn’t know about Chili Mango ice cream/shaved ice and it shows 🤭
It's cool to see my favorite of the legendary birds get some spotlight after being so bad since it's debut.
It could be me not covering up properly but chills, literally chills
One thing can fix defensively Ice Types:
Freeze -> Frostbite
1:26 jokes on you theres a bunch of chilli ice cream in the Philippines
Honestly major kudos to whoever said "Screw it we ice stab" and came up with this first
The 0.19% chance at least one gets hit is based on probability theory. Here's how that Pokémath works:
The probability that something hits (which we know) is X. The probability something doesn't get hit is (1 - X). The probability that neither gets hit is (1 - X)x(1 - X), or (1 - X)^2. Therefore, plugging in the numbers, the probability that neither gets hit is 0.9x0.9, or 0.81.
The probability of "at least one" getting hit is the opposite of "neither" getting hit, so that would be (1 - (the above answer)), or (1 - (1 - X)^2), so plugging in the numbers either way gives us 0.19, or a 19% chance that at least one gets hit.
On first glance, it seems like since it would be a 10% chance either gets hit, that it would be a 20% chance that at least one gets hit, but that's not how the math works! Hope you enjoyed learning some Pokémath haha.
Me, an Alolan Ninetales enjoyer: Ah yes, the star of the champions team… Articuno…
last thumbnail was better imo
fr the art was fire wtf is this trash ass new thumbnail
It got mega buffed to where Pokémon ALMOST made an ice type good.
Good, Articuno was one of my favs, glad to see it finally be good.
I miss the old thumbnail
arcanine as sol badguy is hilarious, great video
Slow T-Tar is about to enter the meta
editing was hella funny this video
ive never understood the removal of snows chip damage for the defense boost. the defense boost can be nice but in a type that isnt meant to be defensive anyway I don’t really get that like how so many people talk about tyranitar being bulky because if the special defense boost when the majority or rock types weaknesses (namely ground, steel, and fighting) are heavy PHYSICAL attacking types.
but even then why does sandstorm get to keep its chip damage but hail doesn’t? if ice types struggle so much why not help it out
Honestly, Articuno could really just use some normal buffs. Like, in Singles, its just never going to be all that great, because even if A!Ninetails sets up Snow & Veil from the get go, bringin in Cuno will result in it getting hit, as well as expending one of the turns of Snow and Veil. This overall set-up seems purpose built for Doubles. I think its biggest need is just a huge Movepool expansion. Way more stuff to work with. Sure, it could use some swapping about with certain stats, to stand on its own in Singles, but... I think it might be just fine to have it stick to Doubles as its wheelhouse.
Jokes on you, sweetheart. Chili and ice cream was and is a pretty good combo. Your palette is just too white.
I've been thinking about buffing Bug types. Maybe they could have a really high critical hit ratio against opponents that are afflicted by status ailments? Sort of like the Technical damage mechanic from Persona 5 for example.
This was truly the set that launched an armada of content.
Thought I was subbed and wasnt. Changed that right noew. Love the vids man!
Articuno my beloved 🛐
Me: happy hearing Articuno doing well
My friends: why not change your favorite legendary bird for one of the better ones?
Me: how bout NO!!
Articuno is one of my favourite gen 1 designs
Come one wolfy, winning a tournament with an Articuno is something that I’d expect you to do. Step it up man hahaha!
I'm seeing a patern with Flying type Pokémon not having good Flying type moves (Landorus, Gyarados, Articuno...)
Didn’t think I’d see a Spider-Man 3 mention in an articuno video
4:20 POTEMKIN MENTIONED
Love this, Articuno is honestly my favorite legendary
13:23 AMOGUS
In my hometown, spicy ice cream (chili ice cream) is actually a thing hahahaha
I’ve been waiting for you to talk about this!!
Am I the only who watches a Wolfey video and immediately wants to go build a team based on whatever the heck that video was on
Isn't chilli + ice cream a thing somewhere?
Thought I heard it was, hold up...
Yup, chocolate and chilli ice cream is actually a thing, also vanilla, but vanilla not as much i'd assume >_>
Wolfey about to kill off ice types again by giving it too much popularity:
Articuno is who helped me finally beat (Pok'emon Colosseum) Lv. 100 Double Battle Orre Colosseum.... A very difficult part of the game. So Articuno does have a few good tricks.
Articuno being weak to rock slide, heat wave, make it rain, AND discharge with its base typing is unfortunate to say the least
THE THUMBNAIL IS SO CUTE
So what will happen if Articuno can learn Mind's Eye in G9...
So happy articuno is good cuz it's one of my favourite gen 1 pokemon.
guess its time for choice band incineroar
Wouldn’t the milk in the ice cream cancel out the spiciness of the chilies?
cool to see a Guilty Gear reference! POTEMKIN BUSTA
Having getting at least one pokemon frozen after a double blizzard is about a little more likely than a focus blast missing.
Are you scared yet?
Articuno is the best of the legendary birds in gen 1. Ice was only resisted by water and ice and was only weak to fire, fighting and rock types. Fire and fighting pokemon where bad and most rock pokemon are slow had a low special stat. Ice pokemon where also the only pokemon that couldn't get frozen by ice attacks. Blizzard also had 90 accuracy instead of the 70 it was given in gen 2. Blizzard is the main reason why ice types where nerfed in gen 2 by the new steel type and the new ice resist on fire pokemon.
I will say that in gen 1 Articuno is actually pretty good because Blizzard was way more accurate and Articuno was real good at using it.
You know it’s bad when incineroar doesn’t cheat these pokemon
So proud of my boy Articuno
Ngl liked the original thumbnail more
Well i'm happy that one of my fav is finally get some love now im waiting for glaceon to play
I always loved articuno nice to see it get it's day in the snow.
Articuno may be awful, but it's been one of my favorite legendaries from the start because of its design.
Hey Wolfey, please make a video as a justice for grass Pokemon
I don't know if you read my comment so long ago, but I want to say that your videos have been SO much better since you stopped ending sentences on a high note. I can watch and enjoy them. I love your videos.
I know gameplay-wise Articuno isn’t good, but he’s been my favorite since Gen 1 when I was a kid. So I don’t care lol
He was the first Pokemon I got to level 100 (and this was Gen 1 when the only way to do that is soloing the E4 over and over and over)
to be fair. It wasn't bad in gen 1. Not necessarily "tournament winning staple" levels of good, but its STAB ice moves are veeeeeeeery scary. That bird has some pretty impressive stats as well.
So the list is articuno was so bad that it took GF changing a weather condition adding buffs and adding a new special gimmick for it to be kind of good. Lol
Its pokemons fault for not giving ice more resistances
no way the editor used ragnarok online emotes on this one
Man those Ragnarok Online emotes bring back lots of good memories
Chili and ice cream isn’t too bad. I have tried it
Low IQ: Spam Ice Stab.
Medium IQ: "Your moveset must be versatile to deal with different situations".
High IQ: Spam Ice Stab.
to be fair, the moveset is quite versatile, just not in terms of typing
Low IQ: Haha, funny blizzard to brrr.
Medium IQ: I should optimize my moveset to take advantage of its longevity, utilizing roost and bright power with a strong defensive Tera like water to let it stay on field and optimize its evasion.
High IQ: Haha, funny blizzard go brrr.
Weak aura: I am in peace with my coverage and utility
STRONG AURA: 4 STAB ICE MOVES BABIIIIIII!!
One of the reasons Wolfe won one of his most recent tournaments in the final match was him electing not to overthink and just click the strong move with the strong Pokémon. And it worked
Curve bell meme
“For the first time in almost 30 years, Articuno truly looked legendary” Spectacular ending quote. So great to see, what should be a powerful Pokémon, finally get to show what it is capable of.
Also made me remember I'm an old bastard
That quote was so incredible that it froze me, it was really chilly....
Articuno was my first legend I caught when I played Fire Red as a kid. Exploring seafoam islands and finding it was so cool, it’s nice to see it finally able to do something in VGC.
Such a corny line, I love it
Articuno was really good in gen 1...
I am so glad I caught this regional live. Everybody was so hype in twitch chat because the finals was between a guy who was undefeated and the guy running an articuno
Yeah I watched it after and was still hyped lol
"CMON ARTY YOU CAN BEAT THE MONSTER"
It should also be added, Day 2 was absolutely nuts. So many weird Pokémon, strange team comps, crits, misses, and the day even started with 2 sheer colds.
Everything about the stream was hype, and the Articuno was the cherry on top.
@@Endershock1678I absolutely agree, after all the tornshifu tournaments and then people once again settling into meta teams, watching this regional was an absolute treat, I can't remember the last time i was this hyped watching a regional since recent times.
Who would win? Several well constructed teams utilizing meta staples and powerful team comps, or a funny bird wearing glasses?
Agreed meta forget weather exist this season
The glasses are also funny
A funny bird with 4 ice moves wearing glasses
That sound effect when Articuno put on the choice specs was hilarious
A bird with all damaging moves of just one type
