This song was playing on the radio Saturday morning June 1, 1991; as I was leaving my high school's project graduation lock-in. I just sat in my car and let the song play as about 300 other senior/graduates tore out of the school's parking lot for the last time. So long ago, yet feels like yesterday. Man I wish I could relive that weekend!
Singer Josh Clayton-Felt died on January 19, 2000 at 32 of testicular cancer. Guitarist Michael Ward went on to play with John Hiatt and eventually became a member of The Wallflowers. After The Wallflowers split, Ward spent many years as a member of Ben Harper's band, The Innocent Criminals. He is also a sought-after session guitarist in LA, and the author of the children's books 'Mike and the Bike' and 'Mike and the Bike Meet Lucille The Wheel.' Chad Fischer went on to form the band Lazlo Bane, most known for original opening credits of the TV show Scrubs. He also performed music in the Garden State movie soundtrack. Christopher MacDonald, who played bass with the band on tour, but did not play on any School of Fish recordings, records synthesizer space music under the name Telomere. via Le Wikipedia

I remember windsurfing in the 90's when it blew over 25 knots for three days when I had off from work. This song came on the radio when I was finally driving back to work. Cranked the radio up to 11. Forever etched in my memories.
I'd forgotten the name of this band. For about 5 years I would occasionally think of this song, but could never remember who did it, then about a week ago I was at work and just yelled out loud SCHOOL OF FISH! much to the alarm and confusion of my co-workers.
Howard Stern was talking about this song on his show today. I guess he just discovered it. I always loved this song, such great vocals and great guitar. It's sad the singer passed away so young but he obviously lived an awesome life, however short.
I am a 256 year old water amphibian who has traveled through time and space to find a device where i can express my love for this song... Now I must go!
It was 1991, I was definitely in that “Coming of Age” age range. This one definitely one of the 1st rock songs I liked, along with Living Colour - “Cult of Personality”. I wasn’t old enough to go clubbing or drinking yet, but these were good musical times!
I'll never forget when I first heard this song. I was on my way to work listening to KROQ in L.A. sitting in traffic on the 405 freeway in the heart of San Fernando valley. I fell in love with it instantly! Heard the singer died soon thereafter of cancer I think. What a bummer. This song is one of the best I've ever heard! Agree - will never get tired of it and agree about guitar riff.
sugar magnolia I first heard this on KROQ as well in my junior year at Burroughs in Burbank (the year it came out). Nobody I knew liked this song. I'll still never understand why.
I too heard this song on KROQ in LA, sitting in traffic, on my way to work in the San Fernando Valley. If I am right, it was the first time they played it, and I liked it so much when I got off work I went to Tower Records on Sunset and bought the cassette single-there wasn't an album yet.
This is one of only a few cd's I could actually listen all the way through because I truly enjoyed each and every song. The whole album is worth a listen. Excellent music!
I had the cassette single of this in 1991 (on the B side was "Let's Pretend We're Married," a Prince cover), and bought the full CD in 1992. It's outstanding... favorites include this one, Speechless, Rose Colored Glasses, Wrong, but I liked them all. Human Cannonball wasn't as good, IMO, but had some good ones, like Fountain.
I’m 23, I heard this song in a grocery store. I’ve had the album on repeat on Spotify for a week. I love 90’s albums, there is something different about how they sound and recorded. They sound so good compared to album today. I think a lot of things are over produced, albums before 2000 just seem simple. The music is more raw, creative and melodic. I’m constantly digging for 90’s bands and music. 🤷🏼♀️
Some of the best songs ever where to the ones that they played for about a minute on the radio, then they faded into obscurity, only to hear it at the tail end, when you turn on the radio, or it is a talk shows bumper music. Glad to see we are all here.
Everyone who likes this song has a different view of their time with it. Mine is boogie boarding in Hawaii in the military. Also snowboarding in Minnesota. One of my faves.
Oh man...what a classic gem this song is. It was a mildly popular on radio and I always cranked it. Please look up the biographical short film the singer made when he embarked on a solo career, he was so sweet and full of positivity about his burgeoning future as a musician. All the more devastating that he died so young from cancer. He would not have ended up a jaded suicidal rockstar. Love.
I don't know why but your comment bring me to a place I've never been and lifes I've never lived. We are so many people in the planet an at the end we miss so many wonderful people and places that we won't ever see... greetings from Madrid. Carpe diem bro
For three strange days I had no obligations My mind was a blur I did not know what to do I think I lost myself When I lost my motivation Now I'm walking 'round the city Just waiting to come to For three strange... For three strange days I couldn't put a smile on my face So they dressed me up in all of their clothes And took me somewhere else Johnny Clueless was there With his simulated wood grain So I pulled up a chair And started drinking by myself For three strange... I've got to make it through No matter what it takes Oh I've got to make it through These strange days I lay down for a while And I woke up on the ocean Floating on my back And staring at the gray It was completely still Except the pounding of my heart Bringing me back to life From three strange days Three strange... Three strange days Three strange days
Used to blast this one late at night back in the 90s. Never saw the video. These guys look so young and sweet. So terribly sad to hear that adorable singer passed on so young. Hope hes in heaven singing to my beautiful niece, Julia.
Met MP (the drummer) back when this album came out, and we were pen pals for awhile (back when that was still a thing ;) )~ he was such a sweetheart... sad loss of Josh at such a young age...
Some of the best nights of my life were played out with this song as the soundtrack...57 years old and can still feel the mood change when this song comes on....
I remember seeing them at Endfest back in '93. That was an odd show. They were playing when I arrived, but there was also Catherine Wheel, Hammerbox, My Life With the Thrill Kill Cult, Helmet, Social Distortion, Belly, They Might Be Giants...and a huge fire people set in the middle of the crowd because it was getting late and cold. There were probably more bands, I just don't remember after all of these years.
+eqsheiky oh, I forgot all about Hammerbox! someone handed me their demo cassette (yes, I said cassette) at a concert. Wonder whatever happened to them...
Maschinestorm I actually liked both MLWTKK and this band. it wouldn't have been odd to me but I get where you're going. Also, wasn't Catherine Wheel more of an edgier shoegaze band?
I first heard this the Saturday before finals during my first semester in college,, and it's one of those rare examples of a seldom played song aging well.
I've listened to this song "Three Strange Days" for three straight days now, no lie. Such a great song. It's bittersweet for me because it also reminds me of the most traumatic moment of my life. The intro reminds me of the intro to Stone Temple Pilots' "Vasoline" (1994), and the outro is also reminiscent of a different song. I rate this song as five stars.🏅🏅⭐🌟🌟
I love this song. My Dad told me he was filming a video for some smart young kids. My Dad was a great character actor. Martin Clark. I had heard this song a lot & really loved it. So when I saw the video. I thought how F-ing Awesome is that. My Pop finally did something I can brag about. He's the Elder man dancing. He told me he had difficulty not laughing when the dog's were licking his face. I miss my Pop. He was a Awesome Dad. He went 4/21/14 His ticker's time was up. I really do Love everything about this video. I am recording a cover of it. Under The Spy Darz from Marz-3SD Ps: It also Tears me up hearing about Josh Clayton Felt. What a Legendary Guy & Song/Video to leave us with in memorys. Thanks Josh & The Band it's been years since I've visited this video. Thank you all for the Awesome responses to my response. 😁❤️
@James Tippens Awww. That is totally awesome that your Father was in this video! I would be really proud of that as well. I really love "School Of Fish". I went to see them once and hit it off really well with Josh Clayton-Felt. I swear to God it seemed like we were falling in love, (this was after the show). We were talking for hours. But then my best friend Bob, who I grew up with, who was also gay, got cranky and irritable. Which normally happens when he drinks. We had just turned 21. Bob started bitching and saying, "I want to go home! Let's go! I don't want to be here anymore!" . Unfortunately, I was driving. Incidentally, I never ever drank. To this day I've never had one drink. I was so sad that I had to leave Josh. And as I was leaving, I kept looking back at him and he just kept watching me walk away. Ahh, what might have been! I saw him once more when he left the band and went solo several years later and opened up for Del Amitri, who I also love. I saw Josh walk by and he did a double take when he saw me. I don't know what came over me, but I just sort of walked away really fast, not looking back. It broke my heart. But I'm sure things were different by that point. I'm sure he didn't have an interest in me anymore and probably had a girlfriend. Anyway, I lost my beloved Father only three months before you lost yours. I'm very sorry that your Dad passed away. It seems like you were lucky to be his son. My Father had heart disease for a good part of his life. And 16 days before he died they found out he was in stage 4 of heart failure. So, it sounds like we lost our Fathers to similar conditions. I miss my Superman everyday and I still cry all the time because he's not here with me anymore. Even though it's been three years. I'm going to look up your Father's name and see what other acting roles he had. And I'm also going to watch this video again so I can get a good look at him! Thank you for telling us about your Dad! That's really super cool! I firmly believe we will be reunited with them again someday. 😀👼💞👍🌼✌🍀

I just recently discovered this song in 2018. This song needs a comeback. It is so perfect for these strange days.
I remember windsurfing in the 90's when it blew over 25 knots for three days when I had off from work. This song came on the radio when I was finally driving back to work. Cranked the radio up to 11. Forever etched in my memories.
I haven't heard this song in decades. Definitely a Roxette vibe to it.
I'd forgotten the name of this band. For about 5 years I would occasionally think of this song, but could never remember who did it, then about a week ago I was at work and just yelled out loud SCHOOL OF FISH! much to the alarm and confusion of my co-workers.
One of the grittiest guitar sounds and rock songs ever! I always get pumped up when I hear this song! Great band!
Howard Stern was talking about this song on his show today. I guess he just discovered it. I always loved this song, such great vocals and great guitar. It's sad the singer passed away so young but he obviously lived an awesome life, however short.
WOW. Did not know that!
The guitarist, Michael Ward, later joined The Wallflowers.
is it just me or does the bassist resemble Jennifer Connelly?
No, I see it too
are you sure the bassist isn't a dude?
Such an underrated band! And so sad that Josh died so young. Him, Jeff Buckley, Kevin Gilbert; the really talented one's somehow go to soon...
I just read about what happened to Josh. So sad and horrible.
I seen Josh as the opening act for Tori Amos.He was really talented.RIP.
Yea, so tragic, I felt so bad reading about what happened to him....got dealt some really bad cards.
Always love this song :)
This came out late summer of 1991 when I was 13. My best friend at the time and I loved it. Still a banger.
My friend and I used to jam to this while going to Naugles to get the bitchiness burritos ever.
Haven't heard this in decades.
A one hit wonder song I totally forgot about. I played this song EVERY day on my way to working 2 jobs and going to college!
Summer of 1991. Hard to believe it’s been 30 years. I was 20 yo on my way to summer school which I hated. Listening to this on my way was the best!
Dude I was 20 yo too!!
Bitchin song man!!
@@amadorramirez1193 those were the best days and so glad we got to enjoy them.
I am a 256 year old water amphibian who has traveled through time and space to find a device where i can express my love for this song... Now I must go!
I saw 'em open for Paul Westerberg at Liberty Lunch in Austin in '93. Those were the days...
Damn that was great show
Quintessential early 90s vibe.
Wow! What a blast from the past. A rare treat. I damn near forgot about these guys. Too bad they had an unfortunate end. Way too soon. R.I.P. Josh.
Agree - will never get tired of it and agree about guitar riff.
sugar magnolia At least u had a good tune to listen to while sitting in traffic!!
sugar magnolia I first heard this on KROQ as well in my junior year at Burroughs in Burbank (the year it came out). Nobody I knew liked this song. I'll still never understand why.
Right On KROQ! The Inland Empire I.E. in the House!
I too heard this song on KROQ in LA, sitting in traffic, on my way to work in the San Fernando Valley. If I am right, it was the first time they played it, and I liked it so much when I got off work I went to Tower Records on Sunset and bought the cassette single-there wasn't an album yet.
Still Lovin' It in August, 2024! Go Fishies!
This is one of only a few cd's I could actually listen all the way through because I truly enjoyed each and every song. The whole album is worth a listen. Excellent music!
The Grays - RoShamBo is another of those types of albums - no bad song on it. Too bad they broke up so quickly ...
Scott Mandel human cannonball was also amazing
Agreee, their first album was solid from end to end. Their second album was a big disappointment though.
I’ve always loved this song😊❤
Some of the best songs ever where to the ones that they played for about a minute on the radio, then they faded into obscurity, only to hear it at the tail end, when you turn on the radio, or it is a talk shows bumper music. Glad to see we are all here.
Dude's rockin' that headband HARD man. LOVE this song
after all these years, how does this have just over a million views? this song is still fantastic!!!!
You are fantastic too!
"And Johnny Clueless was there with his simulated wood grain". I remember when this song hit college radio and I've been hooked since. Great band!
Wow, I always thought he was saying "word brain"!
I always thought it was "stimulating word play."
Everyone who likes this song has a different view of their time with it.
Mine is boogie boarding in Hawaii in the military. Also snowboarding in Minnesota.
One of my faves.
Still rocking this song in 2023!!!
Love.
One of my all-time favs. Had to hear it today.
I miss Josh. It's a shame... He was such a talent and an amazing songwriter/musician.
Damn this song brings back great memories; maybe I'd take the blue pill and go back to the early 90s...
I know, right!? Ifeel we took it for granted we hen we were young. It was an amazing decade.
If I could go back to stay in any time it would be the early 60s & I lived through the 90s......
@@rosecrow1545 there's always a dumb bitch.
Still bumpin in 2018...whole album is just brilliant
I'm gonna check it out! thanks
Human Cannonball is even better. Josh's solo stuff is fantastic as well.
2019!
Saw them in concert back in the day in a bowling alley in Omaha!
I don't know why but your comment bring me to a place I've never been and lifes I've never lived. We are so many people in the planet an at the end we miss so many wonderful people and places that we won't ever see... greetings from Madrid. Carpe diem bro
This is one of those songs where the louder you play it the better it sounds.
My wife asleep .
You ain't kidding
Great song. It brought me back to the early 90's when I was in high school. love it.
Just more proof my childhood rocked and I have amazing taste in music. At the age of 27, I truly appreciate music.
For three strange days
I had no obligations
My mind was a blur
I did not know what to do
I think I lost myself
When I lost my motivation
Now I'm walking 'round the city
Just waiting to come to
For three strange...
For three strange days
I couldn't put a smile on my face
So they dressed me up in all of their clothes
And took me somewhere else
Johnny Clueless was there
With his simulated wood grain
So I pulled up a chair
And started drinking by myself
For three strange...
I've got to make it through
No matter what it takes
Oh I've got to make it through
These strange days
I lay down for a while
And I woke up on the ocean
Floating on my back
And staring at the gray
It was completely still
Except the pounding of my heart
Bringing me back to life
From three strange days
Three strange...
Three strange days
Three strange days
Lookin kinda feminin Micheal.
Thanks for the Lyrics😁😁😁😎
used to play this on my college radio show for years. goes hard still.....
this song is one continuous, non-stop hook
Still love both of their albums. Saw them at Irving Plaza in NYC on the Human Cannonball tour. Such a great band.
90's alternative 90's music videos how I miss you.
You flashed me back to the 90's. IMO, the 90's alternative scene was pure, and just fun. Thank you for being there SOF. Much love.
Beautiful, timeless and rad 🤘🏼
Some of the best nights of my life were played out with this song as the soundtrack...57 years old and can still feel the mood change when this song comes on....
Saw them in Salt Lake in 93 at Club DV8 when they opened for Paul Westerberg. They were great live.
+eqsheiky Kitsap county fairgrounds
+eqsheiky oh, I forgot all about Hammerbox! someone handed me their demo cassette (yes, I said cassette) at a concert. Wonder whatever happened to them...
+eqsheiky Great lineup....good times.
TKK with Grunge bands? odd mix in, must have been *really* early.
Maschinestorm I actually liked both MLWTKK and this band. it wouldn't have been odd to me but I get where you're going. Also, wasn't Catherine Wheel more of an edgier shoegaze band?
Classic 90s Song. Gotta love that Guitar Riff, and Vocals.
I first heard this the Saturday before finals during my first semester in college,, and it's one of those rare examples of a seldom played song aging well.
Hell, this whole album is fantastic. Timeless.
I first heard this song on a sampler cd at Circuit city in 1992 in Wheaton MD. I just had to have that cd!
Haven’t thought about this in 10 years, thanks random writing I found in an old notebook that reminded me of this bands existence!
Under The Spy Darz from Marz-3SD
Ps: It also Tears me up hearing about Josh Clayton Felt.
how cool
Hi James. I work with Josh’s (the singer) family to help promote his music. Josh died 19 years ago. If there is anything your dad shared with you about the making if the video, I’d love to share it with his family. Thx for sharing your story.
.Good Journey .☆☆☆.( .R,I.P. ).........
Sorry for your loss but what a nice reminder he left behind.
This song is like a fine wine 😊🎶❤️
Thank you 90.7 The Summit for playing this today ❤ the memories and nostalgia this song unlocked. I'd forgotten about this in my old age. Oh how I miss being a teen in the 90's. No social media and Good music.
Amazing! great singer, so sad, he passed away so young. love this song, one of my music video playlist. Thank's (School of fish)for having this sound. R.I.P Josh Clayon Felt, miss you
